Birdbath – Build A Green Bakery

Loved the goodies in this bakery. Would stop by whenever coming in the vicinity.
Sadly, today, looking forward to a choc croissant, I found an empty storefront with a for rent sign in the window. The bird flew the cage! If anyone knows why, or if they moved somewhere close by, please post.

Randomly walked in Saturday on the way to the subway.
Bought a 1 chocolate chip and 1 oatmeal raisin.
They were both amazing.
Buttery cookie, dense but chewy, not overly sweet, baked perfectly.
I am going out of my way to stop back.

This place has the most wonderful tasty delicious cookies I have ever tasted and weighing 300pounds I have tasted many.
Yes it’s expensive! But the quality of the baked goods shits on anything else in the hood or crap you can find at the deli.
Try this place you won’t regret it.

Really expensive — 2 cookies for $ 5. A slice of pumpkin pie and a cookie costs $ 8.
The pie was very good though — pumpkin was velvety smooth with a super thick graham cracker crust. I’m a sucker for graham cracker crusts.
The peanut butter cookies very good, soft and almost creamy, and the coconut one has a nice toasted coconut flavor.
Still, $ 5 will get you 3 cookies from Momofuku. To be fair the cookies here are thicker and bigger, and seem less «processed» than the Momofuku ones. I still think I’d go there for cookies, but come here for the pie.

This place is expensive but it’s a business I love to support. Muffins are the way to my heart and they do a great job. My favorites are the blueberry corn, vegan raspberry bran and baker’s muffin (sort of an apple cinnamon pull apart muffin). It is my lifelong dream to figure out how they make that vegan muffin so good– you would never guess in a million years that it’s vegan.
A great place to pick up a few things for a weekend breakfast!

The coconut cookies, although overpriced, are very very very good! The butterrrrrr is just soooo tasty. Their spagetti squash is also really amazing.
I’m not a fan of their chocolate chip cookie — there’s a weird taste, and their muffins weren’t very fresh when I got them.

COCONUT COOKIE! Delicious. Chewy. Just the right amount of sweetness. Fresh. Just yum.
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE! Also delicious. Superb execution of a classic. Melty chocolate chips, without the grittiness.
Spectacular treats for $ 3 each.

I didn’t expect such a hip little bake shop to find its way onto an Ave, but it did. Why the heck does City Bakery name all of its outposts such obscure names. It just sounds like a nursery! Oh well; they are actually cranking out pretty quality baked goods at this satellite location. And by that, I mean the main bakery is delivering via bike. Progressive character, to say the least.
Many people have raved about the oatmeal raisin cookie, but I found it to be way overpriced and a little on the dry side. Yeah, it had an amazing crunchy texture, but I don’t think it had too much going for it in terms of actual chewy, gooey character, which is often desirable in cookies. Alas, it was pretty good, on the whole.
At $ 3 a cookie, I don’t know how they can make any sort of cult following happen for themselves. At least true hipsters will find their way into this outrageously «green» shop to support the cause and give the big «screw you» to The Man.
I don’t really support The Man, but I can’t say I am fully invested in dishing out upwards of 12 quarters in order to put down various combinations of flour, eggs, butter, sugar, baking soda, etc. These products are organic, at least. But they aren’t using local flour and sugar. What do you say to that, tree-hugga’s?

Recently found out that Birdbeth is City Bakery’s sister bakery and decided to give it a try on this Sunday late afternoon.
Not much traffic in the store, so I took my sweet time and decided to get their famous chocolate chip cookie and baker’s muffin.
Never been a huge chocolate chip cookie fan (okay. i know.), and I have to say there’s something different about Birdbeth’s cookie that makes me want to devour the whole thing in one setting. Thin yet chewy, with the right amount of chocolate chip — not over powered by excess dough or sugar — essence of a quality cookie.
The baker’s muffin is has a hard/​crispy muffin top, which adds an unexpected texture to a muffin. Essentially, this is a cinnamon bun shaped in a muffin cup. What is not to love about that? For $ 4 muffin, you can definitely split this into 2 day’s worth of breakfast on the go.
Clearly I finished both items before I made it back to my apartment. Portion control was never my strong suit.

I found this storefront bakery after marveling at the stacks of huge cookies in the front window. Having completed a late lunch at a little place further down the street, the cookies looked great. I inquired inside the sign-​less building where a very helpful young person explained to me the differences in the various cookies that were stacked in piles on the front table.
After choosing the oatmeal and the chocolate chip cookies, I started my way north to 14^th street while sampling the cookies. These were some of the best that I have tasted in a long time and I could see multiple uses for them when entertaining.
I look forward to returning another day to try some of the other baked goods in the store.

Just kidding! One is usually enough. They’re huuuuge! And crispy AND chewy — and a chocolate lover’s paradise. Wow what a boring, trite description. Still. They ARE that good.
I also walked out with a pretzel croissant! Get a pretzel croissant! They are salty, flaky, crispy, crumbly, chewy on the inside and have toasted seasame seeds on the outside: total perfection. If you need both a cookie and a croissant don’t worry bout a thang: I gotchu. Just walk ten extra blocks. Rinse and repeat.
Bird Bath: I love you.
I am forever trying to remember where to find you — is it First Ave, or Ave A, close to 14… It’s on the West side of the street (hint: 1^st ave) and a blink and you miss it kinda gem. A real gem.
EVEN when the baked goods aren’t that fresh (like when I went today, around 1 — hmmm) it was STILL out of this heavens uniquely the bomb.
Oh: and it’s City Bakery.

The best Oatmeal Raisin cookie i have EVER had. Hands down.

After walking by this place so many times I finally decided to try it. Wasn’t quite sure what it was with the name Birdbath. Low and behold they are sister bakery of City Bakery! I’ve been wanting to try their pretzel croissant for a while but ended up instead getting the delicious looking huge bakers muffin… Chocked full of apples and other tasty fillings. This muffin somehow tastes healthy — not as much oil and a million times better tasting than your standard muffin found anywhere else.
The choco chunks cookie– I had at City Bakery but this one didn’t taste as good. It is thin and chewy, not too crispy. Loaded with chocolate chunks. Found it to be just too buttery and much too much sugar in it.
The thick, super rich hot chocolate with marshmallow — need not say more!
Friendliest service ever… Will definitely return to try more!

every time I walk by this cute, dimly-​lit little bakery I cant stop staring at the STACKS OF COOKIES on display!
iv’e yet to try the cookies BUT i couldn’t resist the pumpkin pie!!!
—-the thick crust was so yummy but the filling had a slightly weird aftertaste (which might be the clove) …texture was good though!
NOTE: 15% if you come by bike or skateboard!
i’ll probably be back for the cookies in the future, hopefully i’ll be on a bike!

Guys, I’m really confused.
I got a chocolate chip cookie today with my friend. I give credit to the cashier because she had to watch us for 2 painful minutes while we emptied our change purse to pay for the $ 2.50 cookie (poverty at its finest).
While the texture of the cookie was awesome (chewy, chunky, goopy in all the right places), there was the oddest taste in the cookie that I couldn’t put my finger on at all. It was interesting at first but it started getting off-​putting. What was it?! Too much vanilla? Weird eggs? No idea. I hope there was something wrong with the batch that I ate because I can’t see why so many people like it.

Birdbath has huge and butttery cookies! I have tried the coconut, chocolate and peanut butter cookies and each one of them is delicious. It is $ 2.25 each but it is big. It is also kind of oily because the grease soaks through the paper bag. I guess that means they use a lot of butter!!!
I heard they also have great pastries although I haven’t got to try them. Next time!

I love this place. I owe it to my friend Justin for taking me here the first time, even though I live 2 blocks away in Stuy Town and he lives in Park Slope.
Anyway, when I first moved into Stuy Town, it was October /​November and Birdbath had the MOST amazing pumpkin pie. Either by the slice or a whole pie, they were the creamiest pumpkin pie I have ever tasted. Sunday afternoon snack? Slice of pie — check. Going to a party, need something to bring? Pumpkin pie — check. Family Gathering? Be careful, might upset Grandma that a bakery pie is better than home made. And then, it was over. I walked in one day, and asked for a slice, and they said «Sorry, that’s Seasonal.» WTF? I guess I should have realized that they weren’t going to be serving Pumpkin Pie during the summer, but still, i was caught off guard with no alternate snack. I don’t even remember what I wound up getting instead, but I’m sure it paled in comparison to my expected slice of pie.
So after this whole pie situation occurred, I came up with some new standbys. Pretzel croissants and oatmeal raisin cookies are my current go-​to. And if you need to bring something to a party, see if they have a mini cookie box in the back… it’s just a bunch of the standard cookies but smaller and… in a box.
Oh, and the people behind the counter are really cool. I think when they start to recognize you and it get’s later in the day, they tend to throw in an extra cookie here or there.

I have two «problems» with Birdbath:
(1) They won’t let me reach around and take a taste of EVERYTHING
(2) It’s near impossible to choose only one item
I ordered the warm and chocolately melted chocolate chip cookie — which is a fabulous hybrid of brownie and cookie goodness. My friend, who graciously let me try hers, ordered the granola and raspberry jam dessert that was out of this world.
Can’t wait to go back for more.

I love the classic chocolate chip cookie (minus any form of nuts) which I can intake nearly all day, even as a meal. I came here with a very good friend along with another friend’s delightful three year old girl for dessert. Ooh… Build A Green Bakery’s cookies are freshly baked that the chocolate is warm and melted in my hands. Their cookies are moist, crunchy and composes a good size which is well worth $ 2.50 per cookie. Patrons will need lots of napkins as chocolate chip cookies decimated my recent hardships and deep despair.
I would avoid their Hibiscus iced tea as it’s intense with sweetness and heavy with sugar. The extreme sweetness produces a false positive reaction. I wished Build A Green Bakery offers healthier choice of teas as green tea, a unsweetened but rich in antioxidants to enhance wellness.
Cookies (sugar) + Hibiscus iced tea (intense sugar) = A negative reaction to immense sugar rush!
