How could anyone give this less than 5 stars. My absolute favorite ice cream in CT. I like it better than Ferris Acres. I usually go to the Ashley’s in Hamden — and always bring some home. Coffee Oreo, coconut, sweet cream, it’s all SOGOOD! And their hot fudge it to die for, plus homemade whipped cream. THEBEST!

This place is stunningly unremarkable, but has garnered a level of fame due to local word of mouth. The ice cream itself is quite creamy/rich and has a solid amount of sugar. It’s comparable to a Ben and Jerry’s or a Coldstone. Definitely not my cup of tea, but I guess being lactose intolerant doesn’t help either. There are definitely more affordable options nearby on par with the level of service and product at Ashley’s. But it’s decent enough to warrant the experience. And at least it isn’t a froyo place. Because New Haven doesn’t already have enough of those…

There is no doubt that the ice cream is good. I don’t know that i’ll be coming back though due to disappointing customer service I witnessed today. A lady in front of me waited in the long line and when it was her turn she presented her uneaten 1 scoop to the young man and said that she didn’t like the flavor and asked for a different one. He said«sorry we can’t do that». She said«but I don’t like it» he said«you already touched it». So she bowed her head and just gave it to him to throw out without getting a replacement. I can understand if she had eaten most of it but it was barely touched! The girl at the register asked him what it was about and he told her and she said«yeah we can’t do that». I do not know if this was just this shift or not but if its store policy this needs to change before i’ll be back. A shame because it had been a favorite spot :(

Huh? As an ice cream connoisseur I never heard of this place? This is not merely ice cream… it is the cream that rises to the top of ice cream Flavors change, so come often and try them all. My indulgence today was Irish cream and chocolate malt chip. They competed for top position on the spoon. Remarkably creamy and flavor that clearly exceeds the legal limit for deliciousness for a single mouthful. Now, I am usually a brownie sundae guy but I was actually not hungry in the least so chose to experience total gluttony in the least obtrusive manner…2 scoops, no frills, no toppings. So glad I did. DONOTADDHOTFUDGEORCHEAPCAN’T TOPPINGS which could obscure the flavor. That would be like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa… destroying a masterpiece. Come here. Eat ice cream. Lots of ice cream. You will learn thank me that you did.

Worst ice cream experience ever, we have ordered the chocolate chip flavor and it was delicious. But since not aware, have added nuts topping on that which looked really yummy to add on. There was no description or ingredients info provided. And it turned out as super salty topping and we had to throw half of the ice cream. Our bad.

Second time I stepped in. Go with coffee and Oreo flavor. So fn good! Nice place to enjoy the pre spring and sunshine after a long winter! Handmade and very creamy ice cream. Definitely one of the top compare with any New York ice cream places.

I should preface my review by making it clear that I absolutely love ice cream. I came to Ashley’s after coffee at Book Trader one evening. On first impression, I found the setting to be casual and comfortable. I ordered a single scoop of their Honeycomb Crunch. The ice cream was fabulous — the base was very creamy and the flavour was well-balanced(but quite sweet). I particularly like ice cream with a bite/texture, so the crunch component was quite nice. Verdict: Worth a visit.

Yum had to try it out since we were in the area. Love the Nutella chip. Hubby had the chocolate cheesecake frozen yogurt– a mouthful. But he liked it. Nice spot to chill between where you are coming and going.

When I first moved to New Haven and was feeling homesick, my husband would bring me here. Needless to say, we’ve come here a lot! It’s made me grow to appreciate New Haven a lot more. Love the old school diner feel of the place, the variety of flavors, and the fact that if you order a pint to take home they let you include up to three different flavors and pack it in so tightly, it’s so worth the cost. Staff is super friendly and helpful too. My favorite flavor is the Nutella Chip — not too chocolately, not too sweet, just the right amount of chips. Only downside is that if you go on a weekend night, you have to make your way through the the crowds lined up in front for Toad’s to get to the door. But once inside, you’ll just appreciate Ashley’s all that much more.

After eating dinner at Frank Pepe’s we figured we might as well continue our tourist streak and head over to Ashley’s for dessert. I love when ice cream shops offer samples of their flavors and don’t get annoyed when you want to try a few before deciding. I was with my girlfriend’s mom and her friend and they had to try like 3 – 4 before picking a flavor. The employee was very patient and gave suggestions. I had the mint oreo in a cup and it was pretty good. Would like to try the waffle cone next time I come in.

Creamiest ice cream I’ve ever had. Went with my family after a long tour of Yale University, and it was a great refreshment. The sweet cream was rich and milky, but my favorite was the butter crunch which was basically sweet cream with bits of toffee, two of my favorite things. The coffee oreo wasn’t as life changing as I expected because the coffee flavor was a little dull, but it was still good. Peach was alright, although I thought it tasted a little like medicine. The oreo was pretty good and slightly better than other oreo flavors I’ve had in other places. Mint chip was pretty cool since it wasn’t green colored but the mint ice cream was white and had small chocolate bits in it. Overall very good ice cream, would come back if I ever visit New Haven again.

I am really not clear on what all the hype is. I’ve been hearing about Ashley’s ice cream for many years. I’ve tried four flavors so far and I’m just not impressed. For me it’s no better than frozen yogurt. Correction overpriced frozen yogurt.

I had high hopes for Ashley’s because of all the high ratings, but it wasn’t thaat spectacular for me. Your average ice cream shop that maybe has high ratings because there aren’t very many in the area? Not sure, but I was satisfied with our sundae – no complaints! The staff was pretty friendly and let us try some different flavors, but I kinda felt like they were more into entertaining themselves than the customers :/Not to say they weren’t attentive though, just not OPENLY helpful . We ended up getting a large sundae to share for the 3 of us, which comes with 3 scoops of ice cream and 3 toppings. I liked the mint ice cream the best! We also got butter pecan and an oreo one I think? They put it in a large cup though so the flavors can get a little mixed up and crowded. I’d come back if I were craving ice cream and in the area, but probably wouldn’t be my go-to. **Street parking

The waffle cone here is great — it actually looks like a waffle which has been rolled up. Service was friendly — I got overwhelmed with the various options! Ended up settling with the nutella chip(OK) and the cookie dough(amazing!). I’d definitely recommend this place — maybe devour and walk home at the same time so you don’t feel as guilty!

This is my go to ice cream place. The fragrant smell of sweet sugariness hits you as you walk into the shop. There’s nearly always a line but it’s always totally worth it. Top five flavors when I’m after something more exotic than plain olé vanilla 5. Coffee Oreo 4. Cookie batter 3. Oreo 2. Nutella chip 1. Chocolate orange I really wish they had the chocolate orange flavor in stock more often.

High quality ice cream at a reasonable price. I came here at night on a weekend and there was a pretty long line. The wait was probably 10 – 15 minutes but it was well worth it. Pretty much your standard offerings of ice cream, but the serving sizes are satisfactory and the brownie I got on the side was perfect(moist and just the right amount of fudge)! I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the mood for ice cream!

I Love this ice cream! So F’n good ! the chocolate is remarkably fresh. the Oreo was plentiful and tasty. Hot summer day, hot summer night, I would want to be around a place like this when it is humid. Definitely recommend, Many of flavors to choose from sweet or tart. Grade: B

After a leisure and late lunch at Miya’s we were looking to satisfy our sweet tooth. I got the sweet cream while Sam got the gingersnap. Both flavors were straight-forward and reasonably priced. Yes, eating ice cream and walking outside in December seems out of season. But we’ve lived in Minnesota long enough that the 40 degree weather felt positively balmy and besides, ice cream is ice cream.

Ashley’s is my ice cream spirit animal. I was in New Haven for a week and I stepped in to indulge myself 4 times. I literally cannot keep away. I had: + Soft serve vanilla(ooh yum) + Chocolate Oreo(yummm nom om) + Bittersweet(too much yummm) + Nutella Chip(can it be possible to have more yummm?)
