Cookies by Design

This is one of the BEST cookies I have ever had. I remember when I was younger I would stop in here with my friends before heading over to Ogden 6 and getting a single cookie. No, they are definitely not cheap and cost around $ 7 – 8 a cookie (which is a huge bummer). I have never ordered a bouquet from here, but have included plenty of single cookies in gifts!
The other day I was going to the theater and dragged my friend here to try one of their decorated cookies. I haven’t had one of Cookies By Design cookies in almost 7 years, and when I bit into it, it brought back fond and delicious memories. She on the other hand thought it was «meh» and terribly overpriced. She took one bite and gave it to me! WHAT?
I think some people LOVE the taste and some people don’t like it– all based on preferences. I have to knock one star down because I really do wish the cookies/​bouquets were more affordable.

These cookies are definitely for show and not great on taste. They make cute cookie baskets for special occasions. Went here to grab a few cookies and if I would have just had one of the samples sitting on the side before ordering, I would have not purchased any at all. These are cute for kids with all the designs and frosting but as an adult I’ll pass. Sorry to say Mrs Fields has them beat and Jewel bakery is much better and less expensive.

I ordered a cookie from here for Valentine’s Day. The cookie was dry and hard. It did not seem fresh. The delivery man left the cookie with a neighbor even though the recipient was home. He called me to tell me when he left it with the neighbor. He did NOT call the recipient, even though I asked him and he told me he had.
I will NEVER order cookies from here again.

I called the Glenview store number on the brochure thinking that I was speaking to the Glenview store, then, the receptionist who did not identify herself explained 3 minutes into my order that she’s in Naperville. The same Naperville owner owns 6 stores and they take all orders at Naperville. Of course, all this was not explained which it could in the outgoing introductory message. I was ordering some cookies, and hoping that they would make some suggestions, but they had no ideas. Before I completed my order, they already asked me for my credit card. They did not even mention how much the total would be. It was not professional although they tried to sound like they know what they were doing. This was the first time I worked with this business, but I don’t think I will try again. I can make my own cookies, but this time I didn’t have time. I called on a Tuesday for a 3 cookie order for pick up next Monday at 9 am and they said they couldn’t do it. They needed til after 12. I had planned to order more, but I think this tells you how productive they are. If you need something fast, don’t go to them.

First off – the cookies here are out of this world good. Every single one of them! My mom had fallen ill and was craving peanut butter cookies and my wife stopped in and got some from Cookies by Design. We had tried 4 – 5 other places for cookies for my mom and her favorite was by far Cookies by Design. I went back to get a second batch for my mom and told Stacey, the owner, my mom’s situation. She empathized with my families situation and comped the next batch of cookies. I have been back many times since then. The cookies have not only brightened my mom’s day and all my family that has come in to visit her, but has really illustrated that there are still kind and generous people in the world. (oh and one of the girls who works there is a huge Coheed and Cambria fan, which i think is really cool too!)

I really like this place! My mother and I came here to order desserts for a rehearsal dinner. The staff were all very friendly, and they had the cookies ready in a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely come back here!

In visiting the Ogden Six second-​run movie theatre in Naperville I’d often see a place called «Cookies by Design». Generally going to see movies later in the evening, for many years I’d walk over to Cookies by Design, and every single time it was closed. Finally, after all this time I had a chance to visit Cookies by Design when they were actually open.
Upon walking in you’ll notice a large number of balloons, plush toys and other decorations and only a small area where there are actual pastries. Upon walking in the «By Design» in the name becomes clear. The emphasis here is on making cookies for particular events or making gift baskets that include cookies rather than a focus on cookies themselves. I was able to freely look around for a minute or two before someone came out from the back room to actually assist. I ordered a few different cookies, (just variations of chocolate chip) along with some dog biscuit cookies (which I might refer to as Scooby Snacks) for my friends canine and was soon on my way.
My total was around 8.00 for three cookies and two dog biscuits. So, how were the cookies? Well they weren’t bad, but for the price they weren’t great either. I’d rate the taste of these cookies well below those of Mrs. Fields or Cookie Factory cookies commonly found in mall food courts. I’d even rate it below the «Gourmet» line of cookies sold in Jewel grocery store bakeries. The cost combined with the fact that the cookies were far from exceptional definitely left me disappointed. If it’s any consolation my friends dog seemed to like the dog biscuits.
Overall I wasn’t too impressed with Cookies by Design. Their emphasis is clearly more on making aesthetically pleasing looking cookies than taste bud pleasing cookies. For a unique gift basket this might be a decent place to stop, but if you’re looking for top tier bakery quality cookies look elsewhere. I give it two stars.

In the scant hours after learning my father suffered a stroke, I was scrambling. Where is he? How is he? What’s his condition? When can I visit? And what can I do to cheer him up?
It’s notoriously difficult to buy presents for men, and my father is the epitome of that rule. Flowers are out, cards aren’t enough and balloons are more for children. What does that leave? Cookies!
I placed my order online (but also received excellent customer service over the phone) and picked it up in-​store. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, it’s certainly tucked away in an underwhelming complex anchored by the Super-​H Mart and Ogden 6 Theatre. But don’t dare be put off by its exterior: the bountiful and beautiful bouquets in the display window should be enough to lure you in.
And the taste will keep you there for life.
I’ll start to say the bouquet I ordered was delightful. It included an adorably decorated gingerbread doctor bear and a flower-​shaped shortbread cookie with «Cookies are the Best Medicine» written on it in frosting. I also ordered the basket with a dozen random cookies as well as balloons. I’ll mention here that the shortbread cookie was great — not too rich, not too heavy — and the oatmeal raisin were to die for (chewy, gooey, and oo-​ey (as in «OOOOOH is this ever good!») But when I saw an adorable stuffed animal in the shop, the lovely staff took the time to tie it to the basket with a ribbon and re-​wrap the bouquet with cellophane.
Walking through the hospital (of course I parked at the exact opposite from where my dad was), everyone looked at the bouquet and smiled. It cheered up the days of other patients, visitors and the staff (especially the nurse’s aid with whom he shared some of his cookies). And the most important thing? It brought a smile to my father’s face. Thanks to the staff for helping us through this difficult time.
We both are looking forward to visiting again soon, as we’ve found our new favorite cookie place (and not just for special occasions).

If someone you know has a baby, graduates college, or celebrates their ninth wedding anniversary., what do you do? Buy flowers, of course. WRONG! Flowers are expensive, they smell, and then they die. Seventy bucks, easy, and your loved one ends up with compost. I don’t knock composting — it produces excellent soil and reduces the need for pesticides, and is great for home organic gardening, but you don’t have to spend $ 80 on flowers. You can accomplish the same thing with banana peels, coffee grounds and grass clippings. It stinks in your garabage can, but in your compost heap it’s odorless. Spend that dough on beautiful, hand-​decorated cookie arrangements. Stop by the store, or go to the website —
— choose your occasion, click on the cookie and voila! And these cookies taste pretty good, but mostly you just want to stand there and admire them. Joan, I know how you feel about dogs, so I ripped a special photo from the website just for you. Those really are cookies. About $ 70 – 80 worth!
