Smallcakes: A Cupcakery-Naperville

I was looking for something unique and fun to do for our wedding, something that would put the «aw» factor into effect, yet would also taste as good as it looks. Smallcakes, a Cupcakery in Naperville, was my miracle! They went over and beyond the call of duty. She called and emailed many times just to make sure everything I wanted for the order was just right. She sent me pictures, creative ideas, and even asked for paint chip cards to be sure she got my wedding colors down. Megan, the owner, personally delivered the cupcakes. Her crew was cordial and wished me the happiest of days before they left. The cupcakes were a big hit and their cupcakes were delicious (as always). WOW! Ordered 4 dozen cupcakes for a graduation party, each having the symbol of the school printed on the cupcake, using sugar paper. Each one came out PERFECT! The cupcakes were delicious and were so great to show off to friends and family! The staff was extremely friendly and great communication! Easy and quite affordable! I highly recommend, and will definitely be doing business here again! Thank you smallcakes!

I stop by the bakery today to buy two cupcakes to try. The almond and the birthday cake vanilla. Both were excellent. Seriously excellent. I thought they’d be dry or not have good flavor and my intention was just to try them to see if there any good for my sister shower but instead I ended up eatingboth cupcakes. We will definitely be getting these for my sister shower.

my daughter and I went in here and bought two cupcakes. We wanted to try the gluten free since we are on a gluten free diet. We purchased a lemon one and a birthday cake one. We were greatly disappointed with the lemon. Both cakes were good but the whip cream on the lemon was stale and broke off in chunks. It tasted very old. The tiny bit of lemon at the top was obviously from a can. Yuck. The birthday cake frosting was bad as well. Tasted only of shortening. Maybe because the gluten free cupcakes were way up at the top of shelves that a guy had to reach up to get. They say gluten free cupcakes are sold on Monday and Friday’s so we assumed they’d be fresh. The frostings were not fresh and both tasted of shortening. We will never go back. Jewel sells better cupcakes.

The best cupcake spot in the western suburbs of Chicago. The cupcakes ate so moist that it just melts in your mouths. Make sure you have some water to drink after you eat one of these cupcake because it is so rich. I have been to a lot of cupcake places and the one thing that makes this place special is whatever they name their cupcakes they taste like the actual flavor.

These cupcakes are the shit. There’s really not much else to it.
You can get a single cupcake for 4.00 or a four pack seven pack etc. It’s a little on the pricey side but once you take a bite of that little piece of heaven you will fully understand!
They have a wide variety of different flavors from wedding cake to caramel to lemon drop: your options are not limited. OH! And they now have ice cream too and they are not shy about offering you a sample! I tried the red velvet sample and omg wow! Amazeballs.
Personally, I really want to branch out and try different flavors but I am all about that red velvet life! I’ve also tried their lemon drop cupcake which was very very tart and super delicious kind of reminds me of lemon meringue pie! Think that’s what they’re going for!
Red velvet though. PERFECT cream cheese icing I mean I could probably eat that by its self alone! Sprinkled with a tad of red sprinkles perfect combo. The cupcake in itself is just SO moist and flavorful like it came right out of the oven.
Can’t rave enough about this fab bakery!

I was in the area and wanted to get cupcakes for my sister’s birthday. Seeing the good Unilocal reviews for this place led me here.
I got the sopapilla and another one (maybe piña colada but my memory sucks). They were perfectly moist! I love when cupcakes aren’t too dry or overly moist! I loved the cupcakes and loved that there were so many different flavors.
I found out there is another location near my office. Probably a dangerous thing but not bad to know :)

Top notch flavor & texture. Light, fluffy, moist cake, with a creamy, smooth, light frosting, eloquently decorated, excellent balance of flavors-​not sickening sweet. Everything a cupcake should be. The wedding cake (almond) was hands down my favorite. I mixed and matched a 6 pack. After eating one of the wedding cake with my family of 4, I pretended to only have purchased 5 cupcakes. I selfishly satisfied my guilty pleasure by hiding in the pantry closet & stuffing the other wedding cake cupcake in my mouth. What they don’t know won’t hurt ‘em. Absolutely no shame.
My husband enjoyed the chocoholic but thought the frosting was slightly rich, and kids enjoyed the pink vanilla & cookies and cream. The shop was cute. Paid slightly more than what I have at other shops but it’s true you get what you pay for. Will return!

I just ordered my second birthday cake. It was just as wonderful as the first. This time i ordered it 2 weeks in advance. I ordered a hot fudge sundae cake. When i arrived to pick up the cake, smallcakes was the busiest i have ever seen it (it was the day before easter), the line was out the door. I also purchased a little cupcake for my dog. The staff at the store was very courteous and offered to carry my cake for me. I didnt take them up on their offer but i appreciated being asked.

I really enjoyed the cupcakes. I mean really enjoyed the cupcakes. Like, it good. You should definitely eat the cupcakes.
Additionally, it was my first time here since, I do not get to Napertucky as often as I dream I could, I was unsure as to how to proceed. The woman working the register was extremely friendly and made some great recommendations. Another man working made a joke. It was a nice, laid-​back place with some delicious treats. How could you go wrong? It may even be motivation to visit Naperville again some day.

I am not a fan of most cupcake places as I feel they are overrated. Smallcakes is the exception. They have great flavors that vary by month but my favorite is their everyday Wedding Cupcake which has an amazing almond flavor!

OMG, I am eating the German chocolate cupcake right now and had to write this review immediately. This cupcake is heavenly. The cake is light and fluffy but rich in chocolatey flavor. The coconutty frosting is spot on and the little dab of chocolate frosting with a sprinkle of pecans was the icing on the cake. :) The folks who work in the shop were friendly and helpful and appreciative of my business, which is always nice. If it weren’t for my BMI and my wallet ($ 4.07/cupcake after tax), I’d be here regularly. But instead, I think I’ll save it for special PMS occasions or birthday celebrations.

Tried the one in Elmhurst. I have to say I’m very disappointed. Very dry cakes and the frosting tasted like fake sugar or something. I’ll stick to Nothing Bundt Cakes… This place has NOTHING on them. I won’t be back.

Words can’t describe how amazing this place is! I had spoken with the owners and they took the time to explain everything to me during my first visit a couple of weeks ago. My club at my school was hosting a casino night, and they were kind enough to donate to help fundraising efforts for our spring ball! The customer service was exceptional and the cupcakes are like no other. Cute store, great cupcakes, even better people, and most of all free and easy parking, what more could you ask for?!

I ordered about 160 cupcakes for a sports banquet last year. Not only were the cupcakes decorated beautifully but they were delicious. The girls ate them up and I received many compliments about them.
They delivered them for free and arrived to the event on time, it was a relief because you plan and hope everybody does their part.
They are a little pricey but worth it if you’re craving a good cupcake.

Best tasting cupcakes and awesome customer service! Anytime I have a special occasion or party, I’m able to order in advance and my order is ready for pick up the next day without a problem. Thanks!

As far as Cupcakery’s go… Smallcakes is probably third on my list of ever visiting…
You could say I am not a frequenter of cupcake shops… but being in the area with a Fan of all things cupcakes, I decided this was a great choice… and I do love a great cupcake… I just don’t eat them often.
Located in a small strip with easy parking, the shop itself is cute & very cozy. Smallish. Couple tables and an array of pretty cupcakes on display… The mini dog cupcake treats were a nice touch and a must get for our bff’s…as I browsed flavors, I decided on 4…
Having no idea if these cakes were going to be dry, dense and the frosting immensely thick & overly sweet. I took a gamble… the flavors I chose:
Boston Cream, Lemon Basil, Chocolate Cream & Wedding Cake…
At close to $ 4/​cupcake, yes I was praying the cupcake angels were with me…
The girl who helped us explained flavors and fillings… she was pleasant, helpful and friendly.
Grabbing my box of four out the door. felt heavy… these were some brawny cakes.
After sitting on my kitchen counter for over an hour, I decided to give these a whirl. I went for the Boston Cream first… sliced it in half and smiled at the amply filled custard center.
Cake pulled easily from wrapper and remained intact. and after popping one half in my mouth, I instantly heared the angels sing… superbly moist vanilla flavored cake with an un-​cloying chocolate frosting and smooth custard center… I was in cupcake heaven… my favorite of the 4…
Next up was the Wedding Cake with a whipped vanilla buttercream frosting. Also angelic.
The yellow almond flavored cake was perfectly «almondy», not overpowering — just the right amount.
The frosting… oooohhhhhhh…so delicate, light, and not overly sweet…
these MELTED IN MY MOUTH.
The Lemon Basil (flavor of the day) had bits of basil in cake, not noticeable in taste, however the subtle lemon flavor came through in cake and frosting.divine.
The Chocolate Cream… which resembles a Hostess cupcake mimicked the frosting flavor almost to a T. Fudgy, chocolaty coating… filled with a buttercream center. Yumm.
I learned that not only were these cakes angelic, but the cupcake gods must lurk here too. These cupcakes are so unbelievably moist, just pop the entire thing in your mouth… seriously.
No need to fool around with bites and slicing… you don’t even need teeth for these.(but hopefully you have yours).
Just let your tongue do all the work… because. they are soft. heavenly. pieces. of. bliss.
None of them fell apart and flavorwise, nothing was overkill. I loved that the cake/​frosting was the perfect amount of sweet, cause when it comes to desserts. too sugary is not my thing.
I did not know this was a franchise and after my experience here, I could really care less…
Any place that can bring on multiple cupcakegasms is one worth experiencing again, and again, and again, and…
so yeah… my friend had multiples too and told me later, she wants another in February…
I replied, she should treat herself more often, and with less breaks in between ;P

Must visit this place! I love my cupcakes and these are delicious! Everything from the taste to presentation! This little cakes have it all! I almost never eat the frosting either and I actually finished it all!

This is a business I can definitely get behind. Their cupcakes are amazing, it’s actually hard to describe so I recommend you go! My friend and I tried the birthday cake and rice krispe crème cupcake and they were AMAZING. I honestly didn’t know I could love a cupcake so much. They also have cupcakes for doggies!
The best part of this place is at the end of the night they donate the cupcakes that went unsold to places like the Ronald McDonald house and other charities. In a world like today it’s good to see places give back to the community. Everyone can use a cupcake now and then!

The cupcakes here are delicious and the customer service is outstanding, I always feel so welcome they go out of their way to please their customers.

I first tried this place in ATL suburbs. I just learned this one is near my house! The cupcakes are really moist. The staff was great too! I will certainly be back.

my dog has a really sensitive stomach. And I decided to get her a dog cupcake from here. She loved it! And didn’t throw up or get sick. My cupcake was also delicious. And my mom’s allergic to the chemicals in the store-​bought cupcakes. So it’s nice to find a place that she can eat at

I went to Smallcakes to get some treats to bring to a party. I’d never been here before and I’d never tried the cupcakes. Actually, I found the shop on Unilocal!
When I walked in I was blown away at how beautiful these cupcakes are! I mean they look amazing! As someone who loves cupcakes, I know that looks aren’t everything. I’ve been impressed by how cupcakes look in the past only to be disappointed by the taste. Unfortunately, since cupcakes have become such a fad treat, the cake part has been forgotten! These shops often concentrate on the frosting and decoration and simply don’t bother much with the cake. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried a beautiful cupcake only to find the cake dry and tasteless. Not these! Oh no, these cupcakes a freaking fantastic! Like the BEST cupcake I think I’ve ever eaten! I bought a dozen so I got 2 of 6 different flavors. I personally ate the Boston Cream and it was to die for! The cake was moist and delicious and the filling! Oh the filling was soooooo good! It was topped with a thick fudgy topping. Oh wow, I can’t really describe how delightful this thing was! The guests at the party were raving about the Cannoli cupcake, the pumpkin cupcake, well all of them. There wasn’t one disappointed person in the bunch! Thank you Smallcakes… I’ll be back!!!

I have never walked through the doors of this bakery but someone bought me about six different kinds of their small cakes and I was in love… I need to take a road trip and go on my own, because the small cakes were so moist and even after a year I still remember how good they were.
I thought I reviewed this place way back when but I got a like on one of the photos I took and it brought me back to my first taste of that red velvet small cakes.
I can’t wait to have the total experience of walking through the doors and inhaling the beautiful aromatic sweet smells that hit my senses when I lifted up my pretty pink box and dives into my delectable treat.
I say this rather a friend brings you this tasty treat or you walk through the doors on your own… I think you will fall in love with smallcakes!
The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because I have not physically walked through the doors, but I’m hoping to change that very soon!

It’s safe to say I’m a HUGE fan of Smallcakes. I’ve been here 3 times now to pick up cupcakes for parties and special occasions. To me, their bright pink cupcake boxes might as well be a Tiffany’s box because that’s how excited I get about these cakes.
You really can’t go wrong with all the different flavors they have, but these are some of my faves I highly suggest:
— Chocolate Cream (chocolate cake filled with our signature buttercream topped with our signature fudge frosting with a dollop of buttercream… basically like a little debbie’s)
— Birthday Cupcake (vanilla cake with buttercream frosting topped with sprinkles)
— Carmel Crunch (chocolate cake with carmel frosting topped with sea salt and pretzels)
I believe each cupcake runs about $ 3 a pop, but they’re well worth it in my opinion. The staff has been super friendly and helpful each time I’ve been in. They also usually have specials and a flavor or the day, so be sure to take a look at their chalkboard menu!
I’ve never done customized cupcakes, but I know they offer that! This would be a cute option for a baby shower, birthday, or bridal shower. If you go to their website they also sell cupcakes in a jar!
Although Smallcakes is a chain (which I didn’t realize), there are currently only 3 locations in the Chicago Burbs (St. Charles, Naperville, and South Barrington). I definitely suggest giving them a try next time you have a sweet tooth!

A friend tagged me in a post on their Facebook page of a cannoli cupcake. She knows my love of all things cannoli so of course, I had to force my husband to come pick one up for me while I was stuck at work. It was a Saturday flavor of the day and not knowing the likelihood of selling out, he went over right away.
I’ve kinda been over the cupcake craze for awhile, but Smallcakes has brought me back. The cupcake itself was so moist, but it wasn’t overly sweet as they can sometimes be. I like that they made the cake part taste just like a cannoli, as well as having a cannoli on top. They were pretty big (and rich) cupcakes, which is good because they’re pricey. However, my husband and I split one then saved the other one for the next day.
I can’t wait to try more of these little morsels of heaven.

I was so excited to try Smallcakes’s cupcakes after looking at all of the reviews on Unilocal.The moment I got home, I started eating their Sunday Special carrot cupcake after repeatedly reminding myself to remember to take a picture! Just as I was about to cut into the chocoholic, I was able to stop myself.
On a Sunday late afternoon, Smallcake’s was surprisingly busy. There was a small family finishing up dessert, myself, and a few other people in the store looking around. The small shop smells delicious!
I decided to get the Sunday Special carrot cupcake and The Chocoholic. Each were $ 3.75. The carrot cake was moist, fluffy, and incredibly fresh. I am not sure what the frosting is… but if it was a cream cheese frosting, I wished it had more of a cream cheese flavor versus it being very sweet. If it was buttercream, then I wish it had been a cream cheese frosting! The Chocoholic also had very soft cake… this shop has its cake mix down perfectly! Again, the frosting was a too sweet and dense for my liking, but to each their own.
Can’t wait to try new flavors next time.

Holy moses! These cupcakes are incredible! I am a HUGE cupcake fan and have been an avid baker pretty much forever, so I know a thing or two about cupcakes. I bookmarked this place a while back, and since I had family in town I decided to take them (and me) here for a treat.
This place is amazing! As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the owner, and when he found out it was our first visit he chatted with us a bit about the business and showed us all the cupcakes. He explained that they have certain cakes that they make every day, and then quite a few specialty cakes that rotate day by day. All in all they had about 20 – 25 varieties, including some brownie cakes and whoopie pies. The more cupcakes you buy, the cheaper the price gets per cake, with price breaks at 4 and 6. They also have a frequent buyer punch card, with a free cake after 12. They come in adorable little pink boxes which makes them just about perfect to pick up for parties or the office. They also have a variety of bottled beverages (water, milk) if you’re thirsty. They used to also serve coffee but no longer do.
So, the good stuff — the cakes themselves! What caught me off guard was how HEAVY these cupcakes are. They are just so moist that they feel like they weigh about a pound each. They are easily the best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten. The frosting is divine; not too much, not too little. We tried a Boston Cream, a Cookie Monster, and a Reese cup and took home a box to share with my siblings. Everyone raved about these cakes. The price is a little steep, but well worth it in my opinion. Let’s be honest, you shouldn’t be eating stuff like this that often anyway, so give yourself a little treat on occasion! If you’re a cupcake connoisseur, or even if you just have a big sweet tooth, you will not be disappointed in this place.

I was completely blown away by the fact that this was a small franchise, with locations in 19 states. This particular location is in Naperville, just outside the downtown location tucked away in a strip mall. There is plenty of parking in the lot, however space to hang out and eat your cupcakes are limited. This is definitely one of those pick up your order and head out to eat somewhere else kind of place. Franchise owners were on location and provided some background on the company, ingredients, charities, and were just down right friendly.
There is a huge list of flavors to choose from. Though be aware, just because the flavor is listed, doesn’t mean it is available. There were a number of cupcakes that were already sold out by the time we got there. We could have waited 30 minutes or so for the next batch, but let’s be honest… when you want a cupcake. You want it immediately. Also, note that the flavor listed might just be the frosting and not the actual cake itself. So, make sure you ask what flavor the cake is because it might just be a plain yellow cake with an awesome flavor frosting.
