DJ Josh Dukes

We worked with Josh this past year for our wedding at Beaulieu Garden. Music plays a huge role in our lives, so it needed to play an equally huge role in our wedding. We didn’t necessarily want typical wedding music, but songs we’d hear in our favorite NY restaurants that could create a vibe true to us. We also wanted to avoid the potential cheesy wedding MC scenario. We had very specific playlists for the cocktail hour and dinner. Josh was incredibly understanding of how we wanted to be involved, and super collaborative every step of the way. With his help, we felt like we had the perfect soundtrack to the evening. And as we moved into dancing, he read our guests perfectly and helped cater the music to the feel of the night.

Josh was referred to me by my awesome wedding planner Simone Lennon, of Simone Lennon Events, for our August wedding in Napa and he was amazing!!! EVERYONE commented after the wedding how awesome the music was and how receptive the DJ was to last minute requests. My fiancé and I even had some last minute changes as to when the music should be turned down on all of the first dances and it wasn’t an issue at all. The music could not have been better and we danced all night. We had several specific requests and gave him an idea of what type/​genre of music we wanted to hear and he created the perfect playlist. He even sent me the list of songs that he played in the same order so we will always be able to play back the best night of our lives. So unexpected! Thank you, Josh!!! Could not recommend him more for a wedding or any event.

Just used Josh for our wedding this past weekend.
He is wonderful and easy to work with. He perfectly understood the event vibe I wanted to capture, was on time, professional and fun.
During the wedding, he perfectly matched the music to the dance floor and no one stopped dancing all night.

Josh, of Boutique DJ’s, was referred to me by my wedding coordinator, Jamie, at Asavvy Events. Josh made planning wedding music easy and efficient with an online planning form. We also chatted briefly on the phone prior to the big day to get a better idea of what kind of music we wanted. His playlist was spot on. He played all my requests and tailored the other music perfectly to suit the tastes of my guests. He kept everyone dancing and having a great time. Thanks Josh for making my reception the party I had hoped it would be!

We hired Josh for our November wedding in Sonoma. My wedding planner referred him and after a quick phone conversation I knew Josh was right for us. He was incredibly flexible, anti-​cheese, and did not mind my constant… ‘one more request…’ on the playlists!
He played the requested songs and added in the perfect additions. Our guests came up one by one at the end of the night to tell me it was the best wedding reception they had danced at. Josh read the room and kept the party going all night. THANK YOU Josh for making the night so joyful. Its a no brainer– HIRE JOSH and your guests will thank you, and you will stay on the dance floor all night.

I can’t begin to describe how amazing it was working with Josh on my big day… My friends can NOT stop talking about how he was the best DJ they have ever heard — not just at a wedding but PERIOD and I have some pretty hard friends to please in that area as they are «experienced» party people… he listened to everything I wanted and really made it the perfect day… If you want to do ONE thing that will guarantee your wedding to be a blast HIRE THIS GUY

We knew Josh was the perfect DJ for us when we came across an article on DailyCandy about him and his company «Boutique DJs.» That article led us to his website, where he gave tips and tricks on creating the ultimate wedding celebration. This particular tip said it all — «Ask grandma what she danced to at her wedding… always a sweet gesture to add that song to your list of must plays.» That got us hooked (someone who knew how to create a fun party atmosphere but simultaneously knew not to neglect the most important people… family). Upon reading this (and after chatting with him on the phone), we immediately hired Josh as our DJ for our July 13^th, 2013 wedding at Solage Resort.
We cannot say ENOUGH good things about Josh. He is incredibly talented, he loves what he does and his positive attitude just fills a room. He managed to keep our dance floor going all night long (our guests were still dancing their butts off until midnight and we would have continued had our venue allowed us to)!
Josh was perfect for us in so many ways — he was fun, laid back, not cheesy in any way, effortless, and he created an atmosphere where each guest (of all ages) felt comfortable on the dance floor. He knows how to read the crowd and give them exactly what they want to keep them out there on the floor. WE LOVED THAT ABOUT HIM!
Not only that, but he was soooooooooooooo accommodating in every way we wanted or could have imagined! We were still making changes to some of our details up until the day before our wedding and Josh easily executed on said changes. Nothing seems to ruffle his feathers! He is a true delight!
We had so much fun with Josh during our planning process and on the actual wedding day that we wanted him to come and hang out with all of us at the after party. He really was such an integral part of our celebration and he truly made our wedding an absolute success. It really was a celebration on every level and we cannot thank him enough for making it one of the best nights of our lives!

We hired Josh Dukes for our wedding last June — and he made our reception a hit! Our wedding planner referred us to Josh, and after speaking with other DJs on the phone we were about ready to give up on finding a fun DJ that was not cheese-​ball wedding corny.
Having been to other weddings where the DJs spoke non-​stop and handed out glow sticks and feather boas, I knew what I didn’t want at my wedding. When we spoke with Josh we loved his clam laid back demeanor, and were reassured by his prompt reply to all of our emails and phone calls. Josh has a great on-​line system which allows you to select favorite songs (and ban those pesky songs that everyone hates, but still manages to be played at way to many weddings — «We Are Family» by Sister Sledge anyone…).
Josh kept our friends and family dancing all night, spoke only when necessary to keep things going smoothly, and took the time to speak with us to get the general vibe we wanted at our wedding. Josh provided music for our ceremony, cocktail hour and our reception. He set up his systems in three different locations, and everything went off without a hitch. We gave Josh a lot of freedom with song selection and he did an amazing job!

My husband and I hired Josh Dukes for our wedding at Cornerstone on September 14, and I could not have been happier!!!
We both love music, and growing up as a dancer and knowing our two families like to dance… we needed a DJ who could keep the crowd pumped and moving all night. No cheesy music, no annoying interruptions, he was perfect!
He has an online planning form and also schedules time to chat with you about the vibe and style you have. He allowed us to make lists for different points in the evening of «must hears» and of course. the do not play! Not a single song played that made me or my husband go «huh?».
Everything went smoothly, and tons of our guests have mentioned him when talking about the wedding. How he blended in the background and didn’t make it about him, no obnoxious shout outs, and most importantly… no bad songs!!! Everyone was saying he was one of the best wedding DJs they’d ever heard. I was seriously sore the next day from dancing so much.
Even my grandfather, who is 87 and generally very tired, danced the ENTIRE TIME. He said it was one of the best nights he ever had, which warmed my heart.
If you want a DJ who plays enough popular music to keep the general crowds content and moving but not the cliché wedding songs, while also mixing in some of your personal favorites, he’s your man!!!
Highly recommend– do yourself a favor and book him now.

Dj Josh Dukes is amazing — I have had a ton of compliments from my guests ever since our wedding at the Bardessono in Yountville, CA. Once the dancing started, he kept the dance floor full until the very end. A couple of guests would request songs, and he would always check with me (the bride) before playing them, which was so considerate and professional. He is a true DJ — he knows the best parts of each song and he flawlessly transitioned from one song to another. We had friends and grandmothers on the floor for almost every song!
He did our full wedding, from ceremony, through cocktail hour and dinner, introductions, and then onto dancing. He has a great website setup so that you can fill out the «must hear» songs, and he will work them into the night as requested. He really knows his stuff, has all of the newest and best music, and works with you ahead of time to get any requested songs added to the playlist before the event.
Napa Valley was our destination wedding — but if I could persuade him to travel to our home state, I would hire him for every event that I have coming up. I have never been happier working with someone, especially since I was planning this wedding from afar.

DJ Dukes totally rocked our wedding reception in Yountville! He had the youngest to the oldest guests shaking their booties all night long – and as a fabulous MC, he impressively managed to get every person (without a hip problem) out of their chairs and into a conga line! Definitely one of my favorite moments of the night.
Josh was super easy to work with on song choices, and we are glad he convinced us to let him «read the crowd» for the best flow. He nailed it; even inspired one of our guests do a Footloose slide across the dance floor!
As a bride who managed our wedding planning, I was grateful that Josh was extremely proactive, organized and flexible throughout the process. And at the reception, he coordinated details with our caterer – so I could enjoy the party and my new husband. Thank you, Josh, for making our night perfect!

My wife and I are so happy we hired Josh Dukes to be the DJ on our wedding day. We got married at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma, CA on July 15^th 2011.
Josh had everyone dancing at all times and played the best mixes. The energy was fantastic and he had everyone of all ages (including my family and their friends) up and dancing! Of course, he had us 20-​something year olds gettin loose all night long.
He duplicated exactly what we wanted and played the specific songs we asked for at the necessary points of our wedding day. Everything went off without a hitch! He had great equipment setups (since the venue requires 4 different location sound setups) and this was no problem, he had a wireless mic, a lapel mic, and even sound cables for a musician– buddy of mine to use. He’s laid back yet professional at the same time. He makes you feel relaxed and not worried about the DJ’ing at all. He really did make it stress free.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM! Thanks Josh, you the man!

EXCELLENT DJ!!! He rocked our dance floor and made our day extra special! He was fun and really easy to work with! Our guests raved about how much fun our music was and everyone was dancing! The energy at our barn was fun, romantic and filled with dancing people! We had a great time and Josh made it all come together! We had 3 separate venues for our ceremony, reception and dancing and he pulled it together! :) It was so easy to share what we wanted and the ambiance we wanted to create. With just a few song choices, Josh created a playlist that got the crowd going. Highly recommended! We are so glad we had him at our wedding! Great Job JOSH!

Josh was the DJ at our wedding a few weeks ago in Sonoma. As someone else said… he was definitely not the typical cheesy wedding DJ. We selected a bunch of songs for the dinner portion of the evening and then had some recommendations for the dancing as well… Josh did an amazing job keeping our dance floor packed right up until the end. No one wanted to leave! I would highly recommend him.

Josh is amazing!!! He was not only fun and easy to work with but was so organized and has a great website with tools that helped to keep me organized! Josh was always available and quick to respond to email.
He brought an energy to our wedding that was romantic, and fun. He totally rocked the night away with us on the dancefloor and literally had our wedding guests danicing all night, and wanting more! I cant say enough wonderful words to describle his professionalism and insight. DJ Josh Dukes would be a huge asset for any bride and/​or special occasion! I feel that Josh went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and i feel so lucky that he was our DJ.

I used Josh for a wedding in Sonoma at Cornerstone Gardens. He was familiar with the venue and the other vendors which was very comforting. He was able to manage playing at four separate locations (ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, reception/​dancing) without the music ever stopping.
Josh was great to work with, on top of everything (I never had to chase him down for anything) and professional yet personable. He played great music, kept the party going, and was an asset instead of an intrusion on the event. I would recommend Josh for any and all events!!!

Some good friends and I went to see Josh spin at the Domain Chandon Pink Party at the Yountville winery. Not only is it a great benefit for breast cancer treatment, we got to dress up in our finest pink attire and dance the night away to the 1’s and 2’s of DJ Dukes. Josh is a good guy for spreading the word on this worthy cause that raised over $ 20,000 for breast cancer research.
I try to see him spin all over San Francisco whenever I can. I enjoy his love of music, his knowledge of old school, his positive outlook on life and his affinity to all that is creative and Bay Area artists.
If you haven’t seen him yet, you should definitely check him out!

We used Josh as our DJ for our wedding reception last weekend in San Francisco. We chose him because he has awesome taste in music and didn’t seem to be the typical cheesy «wedding DJ».
Josh was awesome! He had the dance floor rocking out to mashups and was really accommodating with our random cocktail/​dinner music requests. My husband really likes West African music and Josh found them and played them during dinner! We loved having him as our DJ and would definitely hire him again!

Fantastic DJ. I’ve never danced so much in my life! He had the whole crowd going and kept the good beats coming from one song to the next.
I would definitely recommend Josh to anyone looking to get a crowd out of their seats.
