Lobster at Abel’s is truly an eating experience. Lobster fresh from the sea is brought before you to be boiled on the majestic shores of Somes Sound surrounded by the only natural fjord in America. Your delicacy may be enjoyed in the shore line pine grove, or in our rustic dining room overlooking all the natural splendor.

History

Established in 1939.

Ted Stanley Sr. and family have had the pleasure of leasing Abel’s Lobster Pound, a place Ted worked at eight years old

alongside close friend David Beal, grandson to Henry R. Abel the founder, in 1939.

In 1985 Ted was presented the option of leasing the Restaurant. At that point Dave and Wife Carol had decided to focus more on Henry R. Abel Yacht Yard the boat business they had been expanding over the years.

In 2004 the Restaurant and Yacht Yard was purchased by William P. Stewart at that time Ted Stanley Sr. turned operations of the business over to his son Ted Stanley Jr. who had been right there with father since 1985 and further since 1975 with Dave & Carol Beal.

These days Ted Jr. and wife Shae, Cousin Paul, Uncle Skin and semi retired Ted Sr. enjoy friendly faces of returning customers and the generations of summering families that have keep the tradition alive.

Ted Stanley Sr. and family have had the pleasure of leasing Abel’s Lobster Pound. A place Ted worked at eight years old alongside close friend David Beal grandson to Henry R. Abel the founder in 1939.

These days Ted Jr. and wife Shae, Cousin Paul, Uncle Skin and semi retired Ted Sr. enjoy friendly faces of returning customers and the generations of summering families that have keep the tradition alive.

From Ted’s mother Grace washing dishes for Mr. Abel to Langil (Uncle Skin) as a teenager picking blueberries for the pies for Mrs. Abel to Uncle Gil the baker to his daughter Debbie and her son Terry and brother Paul. Langils son’s Eric, Todd, Glen, Uncle Winston and daughters Chrissy, Susan, Uncle Mack, Aunt Deloris, Uncle Bill’s son Jeff and my son Chase all the members who have helped over the years. We are grateful for the opportunity.

The Stanley family will continue to strive and uphold the reputation of Abel’s started so many years ago.
