Residence Inn San Jose South/Morgan Hill

My career keeps me on the road and generally I stay at Marriott Residence Inns. Staying in these places for long periods of time has given me the opportunity to see the difference between the locations. First of all, I am not reviewing Residence Inn or Marriott as a corporation. I’ve been staying at Residence Inn hotels throughout California for the last two and a half years. I am only reviewing the Morgan Hill location. DEPLORABLE! The carpets are filthy. The Jacuzzi has been broken for well over a month. The sliding closet doors/​mirrors are broken and falling off the track. Air conditioning and heating systems are spotty. The ice makers rarely work. The seals on the refrigerators are broken. To ensure this is a thorough review I have stayed in four different rooms over the last five and a half months. Management is anything but accommodating. Requests for room type was ignored repeatedly. This location is by far the worst representation of the Marriott brand.

While waiting for my house to close escrow, I decided to stay with my wife and 7-​year old son. It appeared clean and friendly and accommodating. Early on I felt myself asking for my room to be cleaned do to the housekeeper skipping my room. I found out later through observation that the housekeeper comes by early in the morning to see if the do not disturb signs are up and leaves a letter under the door, hence, singling out the non cleaning rooms too early in the day. I found myself looking for the housekeeper to remind her to clean.
DOGS? I did not know it was a pet friendly hotel. GREAT Place for pet owners. There were dogs here and there, barks of dogs at night and in the early am. One time I saw this large, black German Sheppard coming up the stars unleashed. I froze wondering if I was going to be its dinner until the owner quickly caught up to it. The most concerning was the front desk signed for a package from Amazon and lost it. The manager, could not provide any plan for accountability and was certain it was not stolen, yet no package was ever located.
I believe in accountability and sorry is not enough. A plan to fix a potential problem would have been appropriate for me, but I am not there to teach management staff how to be effective managers. Overall, not a good experience for the over $ 4,000.00 I paid for my stay there. Please be upfront with customers about animals so that they are given a choice at check-​in and please take accountability for problems when they arise so that it shows the customer that you are sincere on working on the problem.
Lastly, the positive in this was that all of the staff was extremely polite, always greeted us and always asked if we needed anything. Great customer service, food was good, so not a complete loss. I believe they can do better.

I have mixed reviews about this Residence Inn by Marriott. I’ve stayed at Marriotts, Hiltons, Starwoods, Kimptons, Joie de Vivres… you name it. I know the expectation for each brand. I love Marriott. However, this location seems a bit dated. I can’t say enough about the two men working the front desk that night. Very kind, genuinely chatty guys who went out of their way to chat with me about what was in the area, easiest way to get to my room, etc.
Now here is the bad/​questionable stuff.
1. After getting in my room, and taking my shoes off to get comfortable, I noticed there was a NEEDLE on the carpet. Not too fun if I had gotten poked.
2. Toilet paper did not have the usual fold over or triangle fold, indicating someone had fully prepped the bathroom.
3. Went to use the Paul Mitchell lotion that they leave for toiletries, and saw that it was ¾ used already, and hadn’t been replaced or checked by housekeeping.

I stay here whenever I come out to Morgan Hill. We have a corporate rate and they allow dogs, so it’s inexpensive and convenient for my pet and I. I love that while I’m here I can have a kitchen, so I don’t feel stuck eating out every night. I will say, the kitchen can be a downside sometimes because I’ll walk down the hallway and smell curry or Italian food. Yesterday I smelled what I think was burritos! It’s anyone’s guess what you’ll walk into when you go into the hallways. Also, I had them clean my room and they didn’t even change the sheets or vacuum. I feel like the rooms are somewhat clean, but the maids should probably vacuum or change the sheets and clean the floors. Overall, it’s close to my work, reasonably priced, the front desk is really friendly and it has a pool. Only changes, have the maids actually clean the rooms.

During our moving transition from San Jose to Morgan Hill, we had to live here for a month. Originally we had reservations at the Extended Stay around the corner, but after checking into that room and finding it dirty and smelling like dog feces and urine we went to the Residence Inn. Brenda the front desk manager and the sales manager bent over backwards to get us a room that would accommodate my family (5 of us). Our accommodations were great. Never did we have an issue (well other than the hot tub wasn’t hot). But everyone was extremely friendly and we had a great stay.

Stayed here for a soccer tournament and really enjoyed the hospitable and friendly staff. Very helpful in assisting us with things we needed. Nice pool, spa and basketball court. The breakfast is great! They have a waffle maker sausage eggs biscuits cereal etc. would definitely stay here again!!!

So the only positive thing about this hotel is Phillip, who has got to be the most friendly front desk person I’ve ever encountered. The first night, our room had a dirty hand towel in it and a torn up tissue box. The second night, we had a different room. It smelled strongly of paint, there were no closet doors, a huge smashed bug on the kitchen wall and the tv didn’t work. It actually wasn’t even connected. We connected it all ourselves and it wouldn’t work. Called the front desk and was told to give it 15 minutes. Called back an hour later when it still wasn’t working and was told there was nothing they could do.

The couch and all the chairs were stained. It was pretty disgusting, I had to sit on a towel. They also tried to charge me for a room that was pre-​paid and though they were very nice about changing it once we made that known (if I didn’t catch it they would have charged me again), it took forever for them to fix it and I am not fully convinced that we will not be charged.

We have stayed here twice now. We have had the king suite both times. The room has always been clean and in great condition. Having complimentary breakfast is a added bonus.
The staff is always very polite and helpful. Love how they will go grocery shopping for you. Filled out the list and gave it to the front desk at 9:00am the groceries where delivered by 10:30am same morning.
We had a concern with the fire place in our first room and let Brenda know the complaint. She was helpful and took care of things.
Really like how close you are to many restaurants and shopping. All in all I think this is the best hotel in Morgan Hill and will be staying here again.

This hotel is located in the Morgan Hill area of the San Jose region just off the freeway. Free parking is onsite and shared with the other Marriott property next door. Parking can get full.
Staff is slow but friendly as checkin took about 15 minutes. Staff was helpful to provide the necessary guidance to the amenities of the hotel. Amenities include a gym, pool, spa, breakfast, and a night reception.
My stay was four nights. The room was spacious equipped with a functional kitchen. Room décor was up to date and in decent condition.
Room temperature and central air were okay and in working order. Bed was comfortable and rightful firm to soft to my liking.
The bathroom was in okay keep. Water pressure was okay. Water took a few moments to adjust but not bad. The shower head had a good selection of settings that were easy to use. The bedroom carpet and décor were maintained okay.
The amenities conditions varied from could use minor repair to okay.
Pool and spa are indoors. The water was maintained warm and hot respectively. The grading in the spa was a little coarse like sand paper but not where I could not enjoy the time to relax. Gym was in working order with properly stocked disinfects and towels to minimize risk from staph infections.
Breakfast options were good. Classic choices. Dinner reception was a variety of food each night from barbecue to Italian or Mexican. Choices were okay. Nothing stellar or nasty bad.
Wifi is free for users. A weekly code is provided and service was mostly consistent through my stay.
Hotel check out I experienced a billing issue to which I corrected prior to leaving.
Overall an okay visit for my first time staying at a Marriott property. Three stars due to the billing issue and the spa. I might try the location again.

Wow. I stay in Marriott properties at least 50 nights every year and have never had a problem until now.
Checked in at 10 PM so I did not pay attention to the room that much. I did notice the entire hotel and the room had a really bad smell that was being covered up with some hideous air freshener.
I saw one other reviewer who noted the fire alarm went off. This happened to me as well after I had been asleep for an hour. After it went off it then chirped every couple minutes. I had to wake up and turn it off.
Then the ancient alarm clock kept going off in the middle of the night. After the third time I unplugged it.
However the capper was when I woke up in the morning and noticed the USED CONDOM WRAPPERS on the ground.
I called the front desk and they told me that the manager would call me on my cell today, but that didn’t happen.
Horrible, disgusting, terrible service.

I’ve stayed here twice and the stay has always been pleasant. Great location as it’s surrounded by In-​N-​Out, Chipotle, Target and more.
The front desk woman, Lizette, is so accommodating and polite, she’s the epitome of true customer service.
The kitchen and bathrooms have always been clean, with a spotless fridge, and comfy beds.
Great complimentary breakfast and they often have free barbecues during the week and give out sliders and other snacks and drinks!
Pool was kinda gross with the oily top layer as previously mentioned but I’d stay here over any other hotel in Morgan hill or Gilroy.

We are very pleased with how clean our room is. They have a very large breakfast selection. The staff is friendly and helpful. I like it a lot better than any hotel I have ever stayed at.

We love it here…
Others might grumble about old furniture and carpet, but it’s all good… Come to Hawaii and see what you get for the same price!
We checked in late and there was lots of parking and great rooms available.
We plan on staying here in October with 20 of our friends!
Stayed at Anaheim during the first part of our trip, $ 129/​night gave us a room with 2 beds… This place gave us a fire place, 2 beds, kitchen, kitchen table and living area…
I guess if you are looking for a 5 star place, don’t visit. If you want a great place for the family, FREE breakfast, great staff! exercise room! Heated Pool and a IN and OUT on property!

The room was satisfactory, but the service was terrible. Not only was our room not available by 3pm check in (after being told it would be ready by 10am), but they didn’t clean it until 6pm the following day… and only after we called and requested it twice.
The breakfast was good and the room was large enough, it was just unfortunate that the service and staff were sub par. The manager could never be found, Jennie at the front desk was rude, not helpful and frankly added to our unsatisfactory review and downright terrible experience. It was the worst hotel experience my family has had in 10+ years.

Not good, especially with kids. Dirty and old! This place needs an overhaul! I requested a crib and received a stinky, wet, moldy old pack play! This was after waiting for 40 minutes and walking down to collect it myself. There were three hotel staff just chilling at the front desk.
The Asst-​GM was nice and offer to buy me points but not about the points, it’s that the hotels would even dare to offer that disgusting pack and play to their guest.
I eventually had to sleep on the super thin couch pull out and my wife had to sleep with our 20 month old.
I’m a business traveler that is at a preferred Marriott level and I’ve stayed at a number of hotels. This hotel is bad!

Good grief, this place is a dump!
Threadbare, torn furniture… not to mention uncomfortable.
The kitchenettes are useless with burners too small to cook anything without burning the center… which, by the way, accounts for the countless smoke alarms going off !!
They do offer free breakfast & occasional dinners… you want to skip those unless you are desperate & maybe having hypoglycemic symptoms… pretty gross :-/​
For the cost of this place… you could do a lot better for a lot cheaper.
On the PLUS side… the staff is really friendly & it is close to an In & Out Burger & Denny’s

Residence Inn is hidden on the way to Gilroy. It’s tucked behind another Marriott, the parking can be a challenge, and the morning breakfast ends surprisingly early. The morning breakfast has a great variety of eggs, potatoes, cereals, waffles, fruit and yogurt– but as soon as it’s done, it’s done. They have
running continuously in the breakfast room.
The rooms themselves are nice enough. One can watch
It’s not fancy, but it’s a good place for travelers.

Basic Residence Inn, but gets four stars just for being in a great location! What more could you want? A Chipotle, An In & Out, Anytime Fitness, Walmart, Target, all there for your travel needs. :)
Spacious laundry room on second floor for guest laundry. Rooms were clean, and parking was available, although rather sparse.
I would not hesitate though to return! Nice location.
