Planning for my wedding was very stressful since I had less than 3 months to do so and was on a tight budget. Like many other brides here, I first stumbled across Alicia via Unilocal.I first contacted Alicia through e-​mail. She responds promptly even though she is a busy woman and very in demand. Unfortunately for me, Alicia was traveling during the week of my wedding. Instead, Alicia offered one of her senior team members to work on me as an alternative. I was devastated and felt a little uneasy about entrusting my hair and makeup to a team member, especially for one of the most important days of my life. As a result, I decided to look elsewhere. I ended up having a trial run at another reputable studio in the SGV and had the absolute worst experience — the kind other brides could have nightmares about. With time running out and no make-​up artist signed, I began to panic. I ended up contacting Alicia again and asked if she had any pictures and examples of her team member’s work. Alicia emailed me a few pictures of previous brides, and the end result was just as beautiful as the other gorgeous brides you see posted here on Unilocal.I decided to let go of all doubt and booked an appointment for a trial run.
On the day of my trial run, I was introduced to Alicia’s senior team member, FeFe. Although Alicia was going out of town during the week of my wedding, she was still present during my trial run making sure that things went smoothly and overseeing FeFe’s work. FeFe first analyzed my hair type and facial structure, and asked me if I had any preferences for how I wanted my hair and makeup to look (I had no idea). She then asked me about how my wedding dress looked, my venue (outdoors/​indoors), theme, and if I had any outfit changes. Taking all of this information into consideration, she described what she had envisioned for me and began working. The whole process was very fun since both Alicia and FeFe are super cute and cheerful. As FeFe began working her magic, all of my doubt began to disappear. In no time I was transformed into a bride. I almost cried when I saw myself because it was absolutely perfect. I have found the one. Let me tell you now, this woman knows what she is doing. I have fine/​thin Asian hair, but FeFe was able to add extensions and potting material to give me both volume and length. I’ve attached pictures as an example.
In an attempt to save money, I asked if I could drive myself on the morning of my wedding to Alicia’s studio in Monrovia for my hair and makeup. This way I wouldn’t have to pay for the travel fee since my wedding venue is located all the way in Coto De Caza. Both Alicia and FeFe agreed to this. Since I booked FeFe on such short notice, she had already scheduled another bride the afternoon of my wedding day and would only be able to work on me in the morning. I began panicking again because I would not be walking down the aisle for another 6 hours AFTER my hair and makeup was done. I expressed my concerns about my make-​up staying on, my wedding is held outdoors, ending at 10PM, and the fact that FeFe wouldn’t be there for touch-​ups. Both FeFe and Alicia assured me that this wouldn’t be a big deal and their hair and makeup would last the whole night. And it did!!! I felt as beautiful driving home from my wedding as I did stepping out of her studio in the morning. I didn’t even need to use the touch-​up kit they gave me.
TLDR; If you are on a tight budget, or if Alicia herself is already booked on your wedding day, do not hesitate to book one of her senior team members instead (I booked FeFe). Their work is just as phenomenal and you will look spectacular on your big day. Congratulations on getting married!

I shortly picked up the phone and called her and she was very nice, professional and responsive. It was 2 days before my wedding reception and I was in a bind. Alicia immediately worked it out to squeeze me in her schedule.
When I arrived at her studio and met her in person, I was even more impressed — she’s the sweetest person ever, and rich with expertise. After talking to her during my session, I found out she also offer make-​up and hair lessons too — so I will be enrolling in her classes, she is that amazing.

I randomly stumbled upon Alicia on Unilocal while frantically searching for an artist for me and my bridesmaids for my wedding. I really wanted a natural and bright look for my summer wedding, and after my afternoon trial session with Alicia, I was sold. Although I was fully content with the style during the trial, she even recommended that I color my hair a certain way so that it would highlight well in the sunlight on the day of the wedding. Thank goodness for her «perfectionist personality.» It was the perfect advice.
She is extremely easy to work with and really takes into consideration the bride’s style and personality. She does a fantastic job of making sure you still look like YOU… but a million times better =]
On the day of my wedding, Alicia and her team showed up early and everyone was very kind and relaxed — really helped set the tone for the day!

Here’s an update for my wedding day makeup and hair. Alicia did my makeup and hair for the day and her team did it for my bridesmaids and two moms. They were very on time and the two team makeup artists came as early as 4 am in the morning to start of the makeup for my bridesmaids because we had a super early tea ceremony. As Alicia suggested, I printed out pictures for the hair styles that I wanted and she was able to make me all those hair styles shown in the pictures. I LOVE the makeup she did for me! It was very natural yet pretty and it lasted the whole day! That was incredible! And I didnt have any breakouts or skin allergy after removing the makeup that night even though I have sensitive skin (the products she used must be really good!)Alicia is really a very talented makeup artist and I was very satisfied for her service that day. I would highly recommend her to my friends and all the bride-​to-​bes.

I was the bridesmaid for my friend’s wedding. Alicia was not the make up artist for me on the wedding day but her team was. The team was very professional in providing services to the bridesmaids. On the day of the wedding, there was 5 bridesmaids and 2 mothers that need to have make up and hair done. The team was willing to arrive at 4am in the morning to start our makeup because the tea ceremony had to start at 8. The makeup artist in her team was nice and the make up she did looks good. My make up lasted the whole day (from 6am to 11pm) with minimal touch up. The bride’s make up and hair was very beautiful on that day as well. Alicia came back in the afternoon to touch up the makeup for the bride and also changed her hairstyle. She was willing to fix all the bridesmaids’ hair in the afternoon as well. Overall, I am very satisfied with her and her team s performance.

One of my bridesmaids actually found Alicia on Unilocal for me. I was searching for a make up artist that does very natural make up and knows how to do Asian faces. I was looking around and I didn’t like many of the before and after’s I saw with other make up artists. When my bridesmaid told me about Alicia I looked at her website and I was very happy to see her before and after photos really enhance the way the person looks, just as make up should do.
For my trial make up, she did my make up very natural, just the way I wanted. She did my hair, not fully done, but was able to give me a feel of what my hair would look like and she was able to feel the texture of my hair. She made suggestions to skin care routine and color of my hair for the wedding. I was very happy about how my make up looked during the trial. Her studio is very neat and cute.
We made all the plans through emails. Her prices are very reasonable compared with other make up artists around the area. She’s very easy to work with. I gave her pictures of how I wanted my hair, she was able to make suggestions and changes that made my hair better than I thought it could look.
On the day of the wedding, her team showed up almost 30 minutes earlier than planned and everything was set up and ready to go before the start time, which is great. I had my bridesmaids there and everyone was done before scheduled! Alicia also showed up earlier and was ready to go, she was waiting for me! She made sure that there was enough time to get the make up and hair exactly as I wanted and I was able to take breaks in between for food and bathroom breaks. She recommended that I do a little more dramatic with my make up compared to the trial session, I agreed, and it came out better very nicely, better than I thought it could be.
I also had a hair change and make up touch up prior to my reception, her team member was also there early and everything was ready to go as soon as I sat down. She was able to change my hair to an up do just like the picture and touched up my make up.
The quality of make up they use is very good, it stayed put the whole day! I have somewhat sensitive skin and the brand of make up was one of my concerns when searching for a make up artist. I had no problems with any of the products that Alicia used. My bridesmaids and both my mom and my mother-​in-​law were also very happy with their make up and hair all by Alicia’s team.

Alicia’s five star rating is no fluke– she’s an awesome choice for wedding hair and make-​up. There were a few big things I cared about when choosing her team, so I’ll break it down based on those.
STYLE: After being a bridesmaid in several other weddings this summer, I learned two things very quickly. 1) Not every make-​up artist knows his/​her way around Asian eyes. 2) The airbrushed, almost-​photoshopped look isn’t for me. Alicia’s portfolio stood out because she’s clearly dealt with a lot of Asian brides and delivers on the soft, romantic look I wanted. She doesn’t use an airbrush gun and instead achieves that look of flawless skin through careful layers of make-​up. She played up my eyes with lots of fake lashes and helped shape my brows to match the overall look (after asking for permission, of course). Basically, I liked the look of her portfolio and that’s what she delivered for my wedding day.
PRICING: Ah, money. That thing you seem to hemorrhage as the wedding planning goes on. Alicia’s reasonably priced, based on the three other quotes I got; it seemed like the right amount for the quality of work. I did get a package rate since we were also getting make-​up and hair done for seven others, which not every place offers. Since my wedding was in Topanga Canyon (~80 miles round trip from Alicia’s studio), that was an extra $ 100 for transport. This was clearly communicated and in line with the other places I looked into.
COMMUNICATION: Really, really easy. I booked Alicia a month before the wedding and was travelling for work most of the time, so we had to rely on emails mostly. She recommends a trial session before the wedding, but since I didn’t have time for one, she had me send her photos of myself and of possible looks I wanted. Some of the studios I reached out to won’t forego the trial session, so I appreciated this flexibility. One of my bridesmaids, who is African, also reached out to Alicia’s team to make sure they could work with her hair, and they were quick to respond to her as well.
On the day-​of, Alicia’s team was already set up by the time we arrived at the venue. Alicia is a sweetheart and the two hours (yep, it takes two hours for the bride’s hair and make-​up!) flew by. I don’t know much about make-​up or hair myself, so I liked that she already had a direction in mind that would work for me and didn’t need much input during the process. Her team kept on schedule and all of the bridal party was ready to go as planned.
The one piece of advice I’d give to future clients is to have some sort of a visual prepared of what you might like done, and to speak up if it’s not looking like you wanted. Alicia’s team didn’t speak to the bridesmaids as much during the process (not really their fault, I’m sure some clients prefer not to chat) and a few of the bridesmaids ended up making tweaks to their make-​up/​hair afterward. It’s a small point, though, and easily avoided.

Alicia and her team are simply magical! She made me look like the best version of myself and did a lovely job on the whole bridal party. Aside from being a hair and makeup magician, Alicia has great attention to detail and is very responsive and responsible. You don’t need to worry about anything because she’s a total pro! We had some unexpected last minute changes but she very creatively adapted to everything and my wedding day look turned out even better than I could have imagined! I was attending a friends wedding and wanted my make up done different than what I normally do. Didn’t know who to go too, looked up makeup artists in my area and Alicia Wu had great reviews so decided to give it a try. I was really nervous Because my skin has broke out and was afraid my makeup would look bad. When I arrived the young lady was really nice and made me feel comfortable. I also had my hair done in a beach wave which came out awesome! Long story short I was very happy with my look on that day and received many compliments from friends! I would definitely go back.

This review is long overdo. Alicia did the makeup for my wedding on July 19, 2015. From my initial inquiry to the wedding day she was responsive, professional, and super sweet. She was always accommodating and understood when I had to change plans last minute.
My trial was one month before my big day, she really listened to EVERYTHING I wanted and she explained everything so I knew what was going on. She did exactly what I wanted but BETTER! She was able to work with my pickiness and everything with perfect color matching. Alicia genuinely cares about her clients and will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with the results. She is a perfectionist and pays attention to every little detail. She took the time to find out what I wanted and what I was expecting. She was attentive to my concerns. She was punctual (½ hr earlier on my big day!), cheery, and so much fun to work with. My makeup was absolutely flawless and it lasts for the whole day.
When I first started looking for a makeup artist I inquired at a lot of places, and some were just outrageously expensive. I couldn’t have been happier that I found her on Unilocal and hired her for my big day. Thank you Alicia for doing such a great job, I can’t thank you enough!

Alicia did my makeup for my commencement and graduation party and she was wonderful! I wanted to find a makeup artist who specializes in Asian faces and Alica is a pro! Alicia is VERY talented and definitely knows what she’s doing with hair and makeup! I was hesitant with the style of hair and makeup that I wanted and I trusted Alicia to do whatever she thought suited me. My hair and makeup came out on point! Her technique is very clean and she puts it on without ever hurting you or causing you discomfort. I was surprised she was able to put on fake eyelashes on me without my eyes twitching crazily! She’s a pro! Her hairstyles are very detailed and elaborate. I love that it lasts the whole day even after an entire night of dancing! Alicia is very sweet and easy going in person. Her team came early on the wedding day to set up and was ready to go by the time we had agreed to start. All my bridesmaid’s hair and makeup were beautiful and I’m very happy that I decided to add this service in the end. I think it was very well worth it and made our pictures look good. All in all, I’m very happy with Alicia and her team and would recommend her to anyone considering her for their special day!
There were some frustrations along the way of wedding planning though. Unlike other makeup artists, she charges every mile that she needs to travel to get to you to perform your service. I was charged $ 100 for 54 miles (27 miles one way). It’s my first time getting married (and hopefully the last) so obviously I don’t know how things work or how to organize the timeline. A month before the wedding, we finally got all our venues and vendors to work out our timeline, we realized we needed to be ready with hair and makeup by 9:00AM. After communicating that to Alicia, another random fee of $ 20/​artist was charged and the reason was that it was a fee for those we needed to get ready before 9:30AM. However, none of this was stated in the contract in the beginning. I didn’t know that I was going to be charged for these little things that I didn’t have control over. Even the travel fee isn’t stated clearly how it’s calculated. My recommendation to Alicia is to clearly state all fees on the contract even if it doesn’t apply to that one client. That way, everyone knows the ground rules and what to expect from the beginning.

I’ve been known Alicia for over four years and always love her artistry. Her make up enhanced a woman’s natural beauty and I think that’s what a make up should do. I’ve been using her service since I’ve known her and I’ve been really happy with the results. Love her!

I met with Alicia yesterday late afternoon/​early evening to get my hair and make up done for a special Unilocal event in Pasadena. Now I am the type of girl who does not wear make up and does not know how to do her own. I am also the type of girl who doesn’t do much to her hair… I really am just your plain Jane, but always open to fun and creativity when someone is doing my make up and hair.
I have had my make up done by a few make up artists before and to be honest, never really liked the way my make up was done. I felt like those ladies did not listen to me when I said I just wanted light, natural looking make up. And I think that it takes a truly talented eye to do make up for all faces and ethnicities. Those ladies who have worked on my face did not know how to do make up for a light skinned face (I am totally pale and pigment challenged let’s just say).
Anyways, I did not know what to expect coming to meet Alicia at her studio because I was only going off of the photos on her website, photos on this Unilocal page and the reviews on the Unilocal page (most of the reviewers only wrote 1 review). Since Alicia was one of the vendors suggested by the Unilocal event I went to last night, I figured she would take good care of me. Oh just thought I would mention that most make up artists do not have a studio and her studio was a nice space and very cute. It was nice that she played music in the background to create the relaxed/​laid back mood.
Now I know that normally her clients are mostly brides. But I wanted my hair and make up done up for a fun Unilocal event so I was really looking for something more so dramatic. I brought a photo of how I wanted my eyes to be done (blue eye shadow, eyelash extensions… pretty dramatic for me, remember I said I don’t wear make up on a normal basis) and Alicia mimicked my photo. She also kept the rest of my face nature and clean looking (which was the look I wanted). Since I have short hair I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my hair so I just left it up to her. I explained my costume that I was planning on wearing for the night (I was going to be Alice in Wonderland because the event I went to was a themed «Famous Couples» event). About 2 hours later, I looked incredibly cute and thought it went PERFECTLY with my costume. The look was really fun and appropriate.
Alicia was very friendly and I really enjoyed talking to her during my session, I felt like I was talking to a good friend that I have known for years. Alicia has a TON of make up supplies. I like that she used a pad she had on her hand when she was applying make up on my face. It prevents her from touching my face with her hand and smudging my make up.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Alicia the next time you would need your hair and/​or make up done for a special event (and yes for a wedding). She is incredibly reliable and will do an amazing job.
