I appreciate the follow up and reminder that I could receive a complementary hair and make up session if I desired. I sincerely hope that the time management issue that happened to me two years ago inspired change for the better in this company.

I hired Susie Chhuor Studios to do the hair and make up for my LA wedding in August 2015.
What a disappointment! like the other reviewer Jasmine I too had to wash my face. I live in Canada and planned a destination wedding in the LA area so I could not do a trial. I spoke with them and sent photos of the natural ‘beach’ look that I was after, and they assured me no problem, they could do that. What I received was exactly the opposite of a natural look! I had a mask on so thick my skin color had changed and eye make up fit for the after hours bar. After I washed my face and she reapplied my make up, then came the not great hair do — I brought an extension piece (That I was told in advance would be no problem to put in) and received a very boring messy side braid — tied with an elastic! Yep — bride with an elastic band.
Maybe it was just the stylist working on me? Nope. The second stylist working on my bridal party did not know how to do the type of simple braid my mother-​in-​law requested (a wheat braid) instead my 18 year old daughter taking high school cosmetology did her braid.
I had to do this process all over again for my reception back in Canada with Trinity and had the complete opposite experience — my make up was perfectly natural, and my hair was curled to the side and the braid faked, requiring no elastic band. There was a design in the back of my hair that was pretty enough to photograph and it cost me ¹⁄₃ of what this studio charged.
Why I give it 2 stars instead of 1:
My teenaged bridesmaids (daughters and niece) liked their dramatic make-​up and hair, and took a thousand selfies.

I had my annual Christmas party and saw awesome reviews on Unilocal.They are all true! I had Claire and she was amazing. Super sweet and funny. She did both my hair and makeup and did a wonderful job. I was in and out and felt amazing! I received so many compliments. Thank you so much girl! See you next year!

Beware, I requested a special occasion makeup look and the result was so bad, i had to wash my face and redo the makeup myself. Even simple things like the lipliner was drawn outside of my lips. I was expecting a certain level of skill and quality for any service from the studio and they did not deliver.

Super happy with our engagement and wedding photos! Per Unilocal reviews, we booked Vanessa and she did not disappoint. Totally not a makeup girl at all and Vanessa worked with me come up with a makeup that would show up well in pictures but not too dramatic and out of my personality. We did a trial session right before our engagement photos and loved how they turned out so we booked her for our wedding day. Vanessa and her asst came right on time and finished before they said they would finish. Super professional throughout the whole process.

I worked with Claire for my wedding (sorry but I forgot her assistant’s name). Both did an amazing job on my hair and makeup, as well as all 5 of my bridesmaids and my two moms. They were very receptive to our needs and were very accommodating. Even though we had requested for a couple of touch ups, they did not seem to mind. Both girls are very talented. All of our hair and makeup lasted through the night. Thank you girls!
Now, the reason why I decided on 4 stars is because of the poor response time for my emails. I usually have to wait at least a week to get a response for my email. I would be lying if I was to say that lack of professionalism didn’t cause me to second guess my decision to go with Susie.
Ultimately, I am glad I stuck with them because Claire did a fabulous job and is so sweet.

For the second year in a row, Vanessa has helped me get ready for the Oscars, and she did a beautiful job!!!
Vanessa listened to everything I told her (I’m a less is more kind of gal) and made me feel like a princess all night. Thank you Vanessa!

Kristina was my makeup/​hair artist for our wedding, and she did a fantastic job. My makeup had full coverage but was natural looking, and the foundation/​airbrushing didn’t cake on my face at all. My hair (usually fine and limp) had tons of volume and stayed full even until the very next morning! Both the hair and makeup lasted for a solid 12 hours (and would possibly have lasted longer if I had stayed up past 3 am).
My mother and mother-​in-​law also had their hair/​makeup done by Kristina. Both looked great and were happy with their results!
Aside from doing great work, Kristina was professional. There were no surprises, and she was willing to adjust things until we were pleased with the results. She also arrived on time despite having a long commute to the LA venue location (she came from the OC).

Great job Susie Chhuor! My bridesmaids and I hired two of Susie’s stylists for my wedding in Marina del Rey.
There was a slight miscommunication at the beginning of the process, but it was resolved quickly.
The two girls, one for hair and one for makeup, arrived 100% on time, if not even a little early, and they had traveled all the way from Orange County. Their set up was quick and really well organized. We were all able to get ready in the same area, so the process was a lot of fun!
Anyway, the girls worked really fast, but never made us feel rushed at all. Most importantly, my bridesmaids looked amazing — and not just right after they were made up, but hours and hours later.
I would definitely recommend them!

Like a lot of brides cost of the wedding can creep up and I actually came across Susie Chhuor a few time during my search for make up artist. I met with a two other makeup artists prior and it was pretty ridiculous one wanted me to come to their studio even though I wanted to get ready at the venue which was 5 minutes away from her studio. She was going to charge me a travel fee for that.
Per my bridesmaid suggestion, I contacted Susie Chhuor was very happy that I did. I was able to work within my budget for hair and makeup for me + 4 bridesmaids. I ended going with Vanessa and did my engagement/​trial session with her during the end of Sept. I have to say I was very pleased. I’ve had a few bad experiences in the past with hair and makeup and as we worked on my hair and makeup Vanessa asked me about them. So we got to know each other and what I wanted for hair and makeup. When she asked me about the lipstick color at first I said ok but she asked me are you sure then I said maybe a little lighter. It happened again and so I really do appreciate her asking and to me that meant she really got to know how I was.
I’m waiting to see my engagement photos, but I can’t wait for the wedding =)!

Most brides will attest to that wanting to look their absolute beautiful on their wedding day is a top priority. I on the other hand was more caught up with the details of my wedding i.e. the invitations, the flowers and the décor of both the ceremony and the reception. Needless to say I forgot the most important detail of all, ME!
My coworker (a recent bride) could not stress to me enough that it won’t be the gold chargers on the tables that every guest at my wedding will want to take a picture with, it will be with me… the bride. Along with that advice, she recommended Susie Chhuor.
I didn’t hire Susie right away, mainly my reservation was due to the price, as I was on a budget (as most brides are) so, I tried a less expensive hair stylist closer to my Wedding venue and was left to be greatly disappointed. Immediately after the failed hair trial I contacted Susie Chhuor and from the first contact was treated with friendly, professional service. I was assigned to Virginia to be my hairstylist.
Virginia, is great at her profession. Most importantly she is honest, patient and willing to help you reach your hair style vision. My first trial I wasn’t happy with the results not because of Virginia’s styling it was due to my concerns of how thin my hair looked in the updo that I wanted. I emailed Susie and right away she addressed all my concerns and wanted to meet with myself and Virginia. She viewed the pictures that Virginia took of my hair on the first trial and recommended hair extensions. We met again for a second trial and used the salon’s hair extensions. It made a WORLD of difference in the look of the updo.
Simply my advice and opinion is this… you get what you pay for with Susie Chhuor Studios. I had no intentions of paying a premium price for an updo and buying extensions but at the end of the day the BRIDE is the main attraction of the wedding. It is a huge investment to have a wedding and you should invest in yourself, we ALL deserve to feel and look our absolute beautiful on our wedding day. And I promise Susie and her team will make you feel that way. They are worth the expense, it’s an investment in yourself.

I booked Juli and two other assistants, Kristina and Crystal, from Susie’s team for my wedding. I absolutely loved my hair and makeup. Juli was amazing and was able to create the perfect look for me. She was able to create a beautiful and natural look for me while making sure my face color matched the rest of my body. She is also super sweet and friendly! My bridesmaids loved their looks as well. Juli and the team were also very punctual. They were at our hotel before the scheduled time and was set up and ready to go. They also did a great job keeping on schedule and finished right on time. In addition, the booking process was super easy with Susie. Susie was so pleasant to work with and always contacted me directly to resolve any of my concerns or to answer any of my questions. I highly recommend Juli, Susie and the rest of her team for any bridal beauty needs!

I loved my make up artist and her assistant! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
It was all very last minute since the original make up artist/​hair stylist didn’t let me know that she didn’t really have time for me until three weeks before the wedding date when Susie Chhuor came to the rescue! I was a little reluctant at first because of the cost, but honestly it was so so so worth it.
Toni was my stylist who did my hair and make up. She brought an assistant to do the make up of the bridal party and she was super nice and awesome too. Toni was the BEST. My biggest concern was to not have «bridal» make up cuz that’s not my cup of tea and she really listened to what I wanted and not what she thought was appropriate. I received so many compliments about my make up and hair… she did an awesome job and if I had to do it over again I’d ask for Toni. She is so professional and cool. I highly recommend!

This review is for CRYSTAL WEI, my fabulous make-​up artist for the night!
I normally don’t let anybody touch my face. I do my own makeup– not because I do it the best, but because I am really picky with things such as even eyeliner wings, making sure my eyebrows look natural and not too thick/​thin, etc. But Crystal addressed every single one of my concerns, and talked me through every step of the way. She was very patient, friendly, and informative. She knows her products well, as she was able to answer all my questions about why one product is preferred over another. Crystal is also a very clean artist, and I had no concerns regarding sanitation of brushes or products.
Crystal had asked if she could take a «before» and «after» picture of me, and she made sure that the pictures were taken under the same conditions (same lighting, same camera, etc.). I was pleased by this attention to detail, as I’m very meticulous myself, and would want my make-​up artist to be the same.
Overall, Crystal did an amazing job with my makeup (it lasted ALL night!), she was pleasant company, and she was very professional. I can tell she is incredibly passionate about her job, and I can’t wait to have her try other looks on me in the future! Thank you, Crystal!

Claire Piao is really amazing makeup artist. She’s extremely versitile in all areas and will work with her clients to make sure the vision is on the same page. It’s very rare to find someone with her talent and abiliites. She’s also very nice person! Her smile and warmth makes it a joy to work with her.
I had her do my makeup for a video project and knew right away she could do it all! I’d recommend her most definitely on all future projects!

Finding a hair and makeup artist was stressing me out. I use makeup, I’ve had makeup done, I’ve even done makeup on other people. But, I wanted someone to make me look really, really, absolutely outstanding. I went through two other trials — both fell flat on their faces (no pun intended). The first one gave me raccoon eyes. I’ve had my fair share of smoky eyes, but this ended up looking like someone punched me in both eyes — and it only got worse and runny by the end of the night. My second one heard my story — and went way too light. It was natural all right, and discernibly pale from afar.
Then there was Virginia from Susie Chhuor. She was awesome from the start. She not only did a beautiful job with my makeup, but took the time to explain WHY and HOW she was doing that particular something to MY makeup. We were the only people at the studio that day, so it was just perfect for us to chat and express what we both thought without feeling judged/​eavesdropped on or rushed.
Each step of the way, she had me assess and comment on what I liked and didn’t like. She really, really worked with me to help create an image I was ultimately satisfied with. Leaps and bounds from what I had experienced. And the end result? I LOVED IT.
She’s not afraid to tell it how it is either. I had very long hair. Suffice it to say, I could have sat on it. It was straight as a whip and could hold a curl for an hour or two, tops. I was on the edge of having curls… and then Virginia showed me photos of other lengthy curls, shared stories, and basically backed up her recommendation that I not. I was sold — and decided to try a basic french twist.
She did her magic, and when I looked in the handheld mirror at the reflection off the wall mirror, I almost dropped it. She had added a beautiful top-​knot twist to the french twist — it was simple and modern, elegant, and EXACTLY what I wanted but never knew I wanted.
Virginia is so sweet, friendly, and incredibly talented. To top it off, Susie answers phone calls and responds to emails in a snap. She tries to make the schedule work for you. With all the events they do and the fact we never actually met, I was impressed when she remembered me during a follow up email. Professional, quality, and amazing work.

I needed someone local to do my makeup and hair for my engagement photo shoot last week. I have no experience with makeup or hair so I went to Unilocal to help me out. Found out Susie Chhuor’s studio is right down the street from me!
I emailed her and she emailed me right back with pricing and availability. I love how prompted she was with her emails. She did seem a bit standoffish in her short replies, but I might be reading too much into things. Once I confirmed the appointment, the emails were much friendlier.
I love how I had to fill out a beauty profile with photos before the appointment. The studio is very easy to find and street parking in the local residential streets was easy. Vanessa was my stylish and she was very easy to work with! She asked me plenty of questions and was patient with me since I don’t wear makeup on a regular basis. She also respected the fact that I want to keep my face natural, which many makeup artists have a hard time doing. She was friendly and can hold a nice conversation.
I love my overall hair and makeup! Once I get the professional photos, I’ll post them. Too bad we’re having a destination wedding or else I would have Vanessa do my hair and makeup for our wedding day. Very satisfied. :)

Last April, I had the great fortune of being in my friend’s bridal party. She hired Susie Chhuor’s team for hair and makeup for all of us! I’ve gotten my makeup and hair done more times than I can count, and it’s never ever been so perfect. I knew I wanted to do a trial when it was my turn to walk down the aisle. But before I get into that, I want to say that Susie was awesome at keeping in touch from my first email to time of trial. I have a really horrible schedule and I’m not the easiest person to get in touch with, but she made it easy to keep a steady flow of communication without being pushy.
I had my hair and makeup trial this morning with Vanessa. She is amazing — so personable and easy to talk to, and the experience felt like a collaboration. Not to mention she makes it look SO easy! My biggest concern was that I want my hair half down and curled, but my hair is thick and fine and has only held a curl ONCE before. Seven plus hours later and I’m writing this review with curls still very much in tact (pictures included). My makeup is perfect, natural, and I still look like me — but the best version of me! I’m now moving forward with the booking process and can’t wait to do this all over again! Thanks again, Susie and Vanessa!

Vanessa & Ruth did a wonderful job with the makeup & hair for my friend’s wedding at the Palo Verdes golf course. They were efficient & skilled as they had to prep six ladies (bride, maid of honor, 2 bridesmaids, mothers of the bride & groom). Makeup stayed on all day (7:30AM-midnight). I showed Ruth a picture of the bridesmaid hairstyle I wanted & she did a great job replicating it!
