Boom! Five star breakfast, right here. I had the Machaca, and it was awesome. There was enough food left over to eat for lunch. You can rarely beat that kind of value for $ 10 – 15. The tortillas came nice and hot and the ingredients were fresh. The chips and salsa are certainly better than Chevy’s. Also, the horchata was pretty ordinary, but the Mexican chocolate was the real deal.

There’s not many Mexican restaurants in Milpitas, and this is one of a few. The restaurant looks very old but it’s very popular. It seems like its been around for a long time. Many«older» guests have been«going there for years». The food is average, but in a city where there’s not a lot of Mexican restaurants it’s a big plus since you don’t have to go to another city. Tried the burrito carne asada– it was good. They give out free chips and salsa, which is always a big plus.

Even tho I think most of the food here is just okay, but their Menudo elevates them to 4 star status. I know the menu says Saturday and Sunday only, but they usually have it ready Friday night and if you ask, you shall receive.

I am updated my review because I can here again at a friends suggest and was told to order the shredded beef burrito. For the heft price of $ 9.95 I hoped it would be worth it. It definitely was! I am so excited. Their spicy salsa is delish and their tortilla chips this time around did not taste stale and old. I highly recommend you try the shredded beef burrito. Nothing else. It was HUGE and filled with a ton of meat. I could only get through half way and then I was full to bursting. Took the left overs home and had enough for dinner and a small snack late at night… Still good even reheated! I would definitely be back when I’m craving a shredded beef burrito!

When you crave something sometimes you end up being disappointed because the expectations were set way too high. This was the case today with La Milpa. The reviews here were extremely positive and I really wanted a breakfast burrito. Perhaps La Milpa is not known for their breakfast burritos but they must be known for something as a line curved outside the door before we left. I’ll be honest I’m very spoiled since my wonderful wife is from Mexico and most days I am treated to authenticity of the flavors and specialities. The chips and salsa were standard is not below standard. The salsa needed salt and garlic as it was quite bland. The chips were not hot. The pico looked like it was scooped out of Cambro container from the day before. All of which for me was bad omens of more to come. I ordered the Chorizo, Egg and Potato burrito and my companion ordered a tostada with shredded beef. The burrito was poor. The Chorizo was not fresh and there was way too many potato chunks. I was very disappointed. I didn’t tell the waitress as she was busy attending to other customers and I was already focusing my attention to the only saving grace which was the Carne de Res soup. The broth and the vegetable selection was good and quite frankly it would have been a superstar soup if the chefs and the owners would simply give it some more attention. Here’s what it needs. A couple of squeezed lemons, diced onions, cilantro. The accompanying sauce should have had a base of tomatillos, jalapeños, with garlic. This would have propelled the soup into the stratosphere. The rice that came with the soup was not good at all and had an awful taste. We came and left without really fanfare and it is for this reason why there are only two stars in this review. Sorry La Milpa, either your customers don’t know what Authentic Mexican food is or I should have realized that I’m not in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Stoked that this place is still open, it’s been here since my childhood. I remember coming to this place when I was a kid and the food has not changed a bit! Woohoo! Cool thoughts/vibes: + Customer service was amazing. There was someone to greet you right away and the waitress was always coming to check in on our table. +/-Beer and wine only. + All food items are winners. I have tried almost everything over the years and it’s amazing! + Breakfast all day, everyday! YUM! + Private lot to park in. There is always parking. + Takes reservations. I have come with large groups and always have a great experience — the staff is amazing! — Weekend dinners get a bit busy and you may have to wait a little bit, so beware. There always OSH, Marina Grocery, &CVS to walk around and waste some time! So, call ahead and make a reservation!

Menudo was good, I like the fact they have 3 sizes. I was able to order a small menudo, and a lite breakfast plate.

Such a cute place! I love how it is set up and decorated inside… it’s just super cozy and inviting to me. Anyway, I ordered a carne asada burrito and it was pretty good! Not the best I’ve had but still up there. The meat was soft and tender and the rice and beans were not overwhelming. Service was quick and friendly. the waiter gave me recommendations when ordering and he checked in on me multiple times. No complaints here.

It’s a shame that I’ve only been to La Milpa less than a handful of times, and those times have been over the course of several years. I last visited this past weekend for my father-in-law’s birthday and it was a little bit of a confusing experience, but tasty and filling nonetheless. It started off with us checking in; my husband had called several days prior to make a reservation as he anticipated there would be a huge crowd on a Sunday afternoon. They took his name for a table for six and we were set. When we arrived, the older gentleman who I assume was the owner said they don’t take reservations, but a younger gentleman working with him — after giving us a quizzical look — remembered taking the call and wrote his name at the end of the list. We didn’t have to wait long, which I appreciated, and our orders were taken fairly quickly. Our waitress was a little curt, but it wasn’t a huge deal. My cheese enchilada hit the spot and I probably could have ordered and eaten three more. Prices are decent but their portions are massive so you’ll get bang for your buck even if you order the most expensive thing on their menu. I wish I had an occasion to visit more but this spot isn’t necessarily in my neck of the woods. It’s definitely a destination, especially if you want super tasty Mexican food; I’d recommend visiting on a weekday if you can make it and are having a craving.

The food here is sooo good! La Milpa has the best tamales! I usually get a combination plate of a tamale and an enchilada. It’s a huge portion but they’re both my favorites so I just take my leftovers home for later. Every order or table comes with free chips and salsa. They have 2 types and both are delicious. Prices are a bit high but it’s totally worth their handmade food. Their portions are also on the larger size so you get what you pay for! Sometimes there is a wait for a table but it’s usually pretty short. The serves are very on top of things. They’ll get everything to you asap!

Been going to La Milpa for 20 years now and it is still one of my favorite restaurants when working in Milpitas. They have menudo and serve goat, it is a little bit less inauthentic than most mexican restaurants in the area. I’ve never had a bad meal there. The service is friendly, and it’s always crowded.

To celebrate Deadpool coming out in theaters, I decided to hunt for the best chimichanga in the south Bay. This place had a very decent one and the salsa is damn tasty! I’m definitely coming back for more. No wonder this place has been opened longer than I’ve been in Milpitas.

This place was a big let down. I had a carne asada burrito that was so bland. This was the first time I’ve had to salt my food at a Mexican restaurant. The horchata tastes like its the powder kind. The salsa needed more salt and chile. This is the first time Unilocal has let me down. Folks need to head to Los Angeles to taste real Mexican food.

A while back, my daughter wasn’t feeling well, and she asked me to make Tortilla Soup. I was pulling out the pans to do it, and then I had a rush of common sense come through me like a lightning bolt. «Don’t make it — go down the street to the Mexican restaurant and get it to-go instead!» Seems like a no-brainer, but I wanted my daughter to have home-cooked food since she was sick! Anyway I caved to convenience. I went to La Milpa(first time) and got some Tortilla Soup to go. And it was really good. That’s all I ordered though, but I knew I had to come back. So back we came a few weeks later and we ordered: CHIPS&SALSA(2⁄5) — The chips were bomb but the salsa was lacking. I made a salsa this weekend that puts this one to shame. I was hoping theirs would put *mine* to shame but theirs tasted like straight pureed tomatoes, no real kick at all, no cilantro, way too plain. CRAB&SHRIMPENCHILIDADAS(5⁄5) — Loved these. So many places make this dish, but it’s either fishy or the texture is off, but these were really good. Nice blend of the two seafoods. Sour cream on top and avocado on the side. Would order again. BEEFTACOS(3⁄5) — My wife ordered these. They were huge and she ordered two, thinking they would be the regular size. But were big mamas, and so she took one home. They didn’t taste of look exciting to me. It looked(and tasted) like it was all about volume for them. Just a bunch of beef and a tortilla. That’s all we ordered. The service was good, fast and friendly. Most of the tables were filled with happy people eating and having a good time. Despite the lackluster salsa, I can understand why so many Unilocalers love this place and keep coming back. Some wrote that they grew up coming to this restaurant. I forgive them for the salsa, and I would come back, because I think for the most part, they are serving some authentic, solid Mexican eats here. Plus it’s walking distance from our house!

I remember going here as a kid with my family. From what I remember it was the best Mexican food I’d ever tasted. I’m so glad it popped into my mind right now. I think we stopped going there because they used lard. I wonder if they still do, I hope they dont.

Great Mexican restaurant for lunch. Came here yesterday with a few team members and had a really good enchiladas lunch. Ordered the Chicken Rancheros, the meat was juicy and not dry. The outer casing was not overbearing the meat and the sauce was great as well. I enjoyed the lunch here and service, would possibly come back again time with the team.

This place has been a family favorite for YEARS. I’m talking through elementary school in the 90’s until post-grad today. We just can’t stay away. What’s most amazing is that throughout all these years, they’ve maintained the same aesthetic, quality, and prices. Life changes, La Milpa stays constant. And I say that in the most complimentary of ways. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? The service and décor reinforce the feeling that you’re eating at a family friend’s house. I consider the dishes here comfort food despite the fact that it’s not my own heritage. It’s just that cozy and homey, with food to match. FOOD: You can’t really go wrong with most items on the menu. Portions are generous and generally within $ 10 – 15. I’d recommend getting a combination plate, which includes two items, rice, beans, and salad. You’ll almost definitely end up taking half home. I love their enchiladas and chile rellenos, both of which come with a hearty amount of cheese and red sauce. The chimichanga used to be my go-to dish as a teen, but lately I have no idea how I managed to finish it. It’s essentially a deep-fried burrito stuffed with your choice of meat and served with fresh guac and sour cream. Definitely a good choice if you’re starving. FAVORITES: Chile rellenos Enchiladas(verde or roja, both are great; mole is quite good too) Chimichanga Albondinga(meatball) soup OVERALL: Go here for authentic and hearty Mexican food that’ll fill you up and make you smile. I have nothing but good things to say about La Milpa.

We live in San Jose and this is, by far, the best Mexican restaurant in the area. There are usually lines however it is worth the wait! Ambiance is very simple and the service is good, the food definitely take the top! We’ve tried enchiladas, flautas and the chicken chimichanga and they are all delicious. The rice and beans also taste delicious as side dishes. This place is always busy which is a true reflection of how delicious the food is.

I had this place bookmarked recently and I forgot why or how I came across it. When we came here I was like oh I’ve ever even noticed this restaurant because we’re always in this plaza. When we came in the lady at the front was preoccupied on the phone. We waited a little bit to get seated and ordered a bunch of different dishes to try. I was actually craving for taqueria food but since this place had so much ratings I was like okay let’s just go here. The tortilla soup was okay. I’ve had better. I ordered the enchillada plate and initially they gave me the wrong plate with the table next to me and did a swap. I was like okay… food looks like it wasn’t tampered with… but you never know… I didn’t tamper with wrong plate she gave me but I almost did. She lucky I was too busy taking pictures so I didn’t get a chance to dig in with my fork. So I got my enchillada plate and was worried the person who had it before me ate off of it. I didn’t want to ask for a new plate because I didn’t want them to spit in it for the trouble. You know how restaurants are. Anyways food was okay. We also tried the chicken quesadillas, tacos, pork plate and more. Hubby got the pork plate and said he wish they had cut it smaller instead of the large chunks. They only allow one free refill for the sodas. Horchata is $ 3 with no free refills and ours was watered down. Staff was nice. Friendly. The service was okay too. Food was okay. I’ve had way better. The restaurant down the street offers free soda with Unilocal check in and unlimited refills and the food there tastes so much better no offense to this place. This place had people dining so it’s not like people don’t like it. People like it. Personally for me it was just okay. I’ve had tastier Mexican food that’s all. I probably won’t come back because the food tasted plain and because of the one refill soda policy and the watered down horchata we got. I really wanted to like this place but I like the place down the street more that’s all. You can come here and try for yourself. The bill is old school hand written chicken scratch so make sure you read carefully and not get overcharged.

Menudo, menudo and well menudo!!! I love this place, the atmosphere totally drowns out our loud kids and that’s a plus for sure. We came here for my moms 61st birthday and they handled our party of 12 with ease. I appreciate the way they prep their tables when someone leaves with chips and salsa already in place(most places do just napkin and utensil but these guys are on the spot). The salsa is pretty good and they have a nice pico de gallo as well with just the right amount of spice. My wife had the fajitas and well I had the menudo and the menudo was all Bueno! There was so much tripe and hominy that I was almost unable to finish but I sacked up and put it all back. They provide a ton of cilantro, onions and they bring you shakers of dried chilies and oregano to put on top. Don’t forget to squeeze that lemon on top too. The broth was delicious as well. For parents they do have a kids menu with 4 – 5 options and even, dare I say, burgers at a Mexican joint. The server was super helpful and had a great personality. He did right by checking on us early and often and he deserved his healthy tip too. Overall I can see why the buzz about this place, there was a nice crowd by the time we left at 6:15p and a few parties waiting to be placed at a table. I’m definitely a fan and will be back when I’m in Milpitas!

Oh my gosh, how have I not written a review for this place? I have been coming to La Milpa since the early 90’s! The food has stayed consistent and the staff is always great. My favorite things here is either the Crab & Shrimp Enchiladas or their Enchiladas Mole. Love them both!!!

The best Mexican food, I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying in my 23 years of life! Service: phenomenal waiters, service staff, and hosts that keep you coming back! Nothing better than opting for a family restaurant, where you can find comfort in the food and people! Ramon is always very helpful and courteous. I’ve had the pleasure of having every single waiter at La Milpa; and each one deserves a 10⁄10! Food: there is nothing on the menu that I haven’t tried, that wasn’t great! Particular favorites: — Large Burrito(enchilada style green sauce, with chicken) — Tamale + rice & beans — Steak & Chicken Fajitas — Crunchy taco + rice and beans — Chicken Chimichanga + rice and beans & for all the adults, HIGHLY recommend their wine margaritas; great taste, great price!

I don’t usually leave reviews but this time I feel I should so others are aware. I ordered togo over the phone and the person was not friendly at all which I brushed off because whatever, as long as my order is right when I pick up, I’m fine. I ordered the menudo soup. The flavor was good but as I was eating I found tiny little black hairs all over in my soup!!! Ok so I understand hair lashes fall in sometimes but it was like someone sprinkled hair trimmings from a barber shop in the soup. It may have been a few long strands that fell in and got chopped up while cooking in the soup. DISGUSTING!!! Definitely lost my appetite and will not be eating from here again.

I love this restaurant. It is tucked away in the corner of Milpitas right down the street from the city hall. It is behind the McDonalds and located next to a beauty salon. This place is great, the food is always wonderful. The service is always fantastic and the ladies are very attentive to your needs. I have come here with family, I have come here with friends, it is very romantic if you want to come here for a date. The location is premier real estate as it is located at the cusp of McCarthy ranch and also the Great Mall. The prices are fantastic and unrealistic for the time frame or they can charge so much more for their food. This is Mexican food, real Mexican food. If you are in the mood for real Mexican food with real Mexican flavor this is probably one of the stops you need to add to your foodies list. If you have never had real Mexican food before this may taste a little different than what you are used to. It is very authentic, tasty, flavorful, and the presentation is exactly what you think it would be. The chips and salsa are fantastic and again everything is authentic.

I have been coming here with my family since I was a little girl. I absolutely love it. The food is amazing. My favorites are the fajitas! The marinade they use for the chicken and steak are incredible. They are the most flavorful fajitas I ever had. I also have to mention their chicken tortilla soup, literally my favorite thing! It is unlike most, as it is not a tomato based broth. It’s definitely something worth trying. The portions are huge, so come hungry, share with a loved one or be ready to have left overs ;) The staff are all very friendly. The restaurant itself is large. There is the main room when you walk in and a second larger room great for groups. The décor is cute, well lit but not too bright. It has a «calm» feel to it, even when it’s busy. Everyone I have brought here always loved it! If you happen to be in the mood for some great Mexican food, give it a try! You will be happy you did. :)

I have to dock a star. My parents really like to eat here, but I can’t say that I do. The service is great, but the food is kind of average. The hours were changed(reduced) since I last reviewed the restaurant. Still, they’re pretty good: Mon-Fri 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sat & Sun 8 a.m.-9 p.m. «Congrats to La Milpa in Milpitas for winning the KFOXSB Award for being named best Mexican food spot in the South Bay!» Cool. The hosts are friendly. This place is popular, but you’re likely to be seated right away. I had dinner here with my family and parents on Saturday. Because I smelled like a homeless man knee deep in garbage, I quickly used the restroom on the right(it’s nice and big). The area is tight, and so I was careful while coming and going. Our server was friendly and quick. He was too attentive(he came by at least 6 times), but we left him a $ 10 tip. I don’t know if we were charged extra(the menu indicates that you only get 1 free refill), but my wife and I were given refills without having to ask(I was partly glad because we were given too much ice, and the glasses here could be bigger). The servers were quite active. A female server even gave me a nice smile. I felt a little tingly inside. The receipts(bills) could be more legible. My mom looked over ours like she was studying hieroglyphics. The menu is somewhat diverse(ex: Flautas; Cheeseburger; Quesadilla Con Guacamole Y Crema; Tostada, Enchilada, Rice And Beans; Sopapillas), but the prices could be better(most selections are about $ 10). In general, the portions here are good. Most dishes can be prepared«vegetarian style by request … for no extra charge.» I ordered a salad instead(I gave it to my wife– she didn’t finish it because it was huge), but the tortilla soup is evidently great. On the flip side, another reviewer refers to the tacos as being«very bland.» My son likes the tortilla chips here. They’re okay(I can’t say that they’re tasty, but it’s nice that they’re not overly hard), but they get stale pretty quickly(my mom was given some when she placed an order to go). : Platillos Especiales(Special Plates): Carnitas(score: 8⁄10). I received a cup of pinto beans. I wanted refried beans, but it’s my fault for assuming that«beans» was referring to them. My mom had my guacamole. She didn’t like it. No one wanted my jalapeños. I received 4 corn tortillas. They were big and sturdy, but just okay in terms of taste. My carnitas were pretty good. They were meaty, and I was given a large portion. : I’m not a fan of the Spanish rice here(I would give it a 7.5÷10). It isn’t bad by any means, but I mainly just view it as an item that will help you to get full. Overall, my meal left a lot to be desired(the score is as high as it is because of the nice portions). I left full, but not satisfied. It’s mainly worth going here for the service and ambiance.
