I found Y Not 3 searching for companies that digitize 8 mm and 16 mm videos. Their price is the best I’ve found anywhere, and I’ve compared them to about 30 shops. A LOT of places are digitizing old still and motion film for much more than Y Not 3.
Added to that, Y Not 3 has fantastic customer service. It took less than ten days from the moment I dropped them in USPS to the moment they returned. Also, most places wouldn’t let me put my own jump drive in the box for use (a lot of places charge $ 35 – 50 for a jump drive in lieu of a CD.) Y Not 3 put the files on the jump drive and didn’t charge me extra.
They’re very responsive and replied to all my e-​mails — including the initial website form e-​mail — in less than 24 hours. In fact, a couple of times I had responses from them within an hour. That’s a rare and fantastic customer service few of their competitors can match, and likely none can beat.
They do their work with the personal touch of a small shop and the professional results of a large shop. I was so happy with my first set of digitized films, that I just mailed them another 1,000 feet of 8 mm and 16 mm film to digitize. If you need movies, slides, still pictures, VHS tapes, and so forth digitized, Y Not 3 should be the first place you look into, and may well be the only shop you need to check. They’re really, truly fabulous.
