History

Established in 1994.

APSK Martial Arts Academy was established in 1994.

Back than it started out as Arizona Shaolin Kenpo but later integrated with other masters who joined the school to be known as APSK Martial Arts Academy. Teaching Martial has been Professor Shall’s life long passion. Wanting to give back to the community by providing the positive benefits that martial arts develops.

Business Owner

John S, has been teaching Martial Arts in the Mesa AZ area for 20 years. He’s been involved in martial arts for over 30 years. He has a wealth of knowledge that he brings to the mesa area. He is 6th degree

Black Belt «Professor Title» under world renowned Grand Master George Lim of Lim’s Hawaiian Kenpo. He’s was inducted in the martial arts World Head of Family Sokeship Council International Hall of Fame in 2004 as a top regional instructor.

Professor John Shall has been highly sought out for his knowledge of real world fighting applications for internal martial arts. Many say they can do this, how ever Professor Shall is only few in the country that can actually do and willing to openly teach it.

The staff are all professional and absolutely great with the kids. The positive effect on my granddaughter has remarkable. She loves going and so proud of her accomplishments. I recommend signing your children/​grandchildren into this program. They have absolutely great after school program that they pick up child at school. She also went to the summer program really terrific especially for parents work schedule. During the off school programs there is outings to movies swimming and more.

We found APSK when looking for a summer camp program for our kids and really got more than we bargained for! They ended up having the best summer of their lives and looked forward to going to camp every day! They learned so much about martial arts and progressed through a couple belts which gave them such confidence and drive to succeed! In addition to that, they got to see great movies, learn how to roller skate, dance, swim and take field trips along with many other activities. The Sensei’s and Professor of the school are all amazing people that have such passion for what they do and really care about their students. As a result of our experience last summer, we kept the kids in karate and ended up joining ourselves so we could do it as a family! I cannot say enough great things about APSK Martial Arts Academy and am happy to say that the kids are thrilled that they will be starting summer camp again at the end of this month!

Pros: good location, caring knowledgable teachers, great structure/​programs, loved the 30 min classes of tumbling/​karate/​self defense/​jijitsu
Cons: very expensive (to me), a big time commitment (was looking more for a 6 – 8 week program) and the facility was older. If money and time weren’t a factor I would have given them 4.5 stars.

My husband and I originally found APSK when we were looking into children’s day camps for the summer. Both my 6 year old daughter and 8 year old son had tried karate before and just weren’t that interested, but the camp offered so many other activities like dance, tumbling, swimming, movies and field trips so we thought we’d give it a try. Plus, we really liked Professor Shaw and felt he would be a great roll model for the kids. As it turned out the kids LOVED the camp and are now really enjoying martial arts. They begged us to sign them up for the after school program so they could keep going during the school year. My son has really grown this summer has a new confidence that wasn’t there before. Both kids want to join the black belt club now and are looking forward to participating in their first martial arts tournament. This is an AMAZING place!!!

I enrolled my 9 year old nephew into the Jaz Family Sports & Fitness (aka APSK Martial Arts) Summer Camp program. He loved it from the first day. I am so impressed to see him actively listening to and whole-​heartedly responding to the instructor (respect is expected and given). My nephew learned so many new skills… he was, even, sparring at the end of his first day.
As much as the skills, I like the example of self-​control and respect that I can only infer are being demonstrated throughout the day as evidenced by the kid I pick up at the end of it. He is even calling us sir and ma’am.
The day is packed with fun activities and classes. I laughed (and loved it) when he came home on the 2nd day with head-​to-​toe sore muscles from so much physical activity. This little guy needs to be up and moving around, alot. The classes are just the right length to teach him and to keep his interest.
He likes the classes so much that he asked me not to pick him up until the last one is over so as not to miss anything. I love this Summer Camp program!

I found APSK Martial after doing a Google search for summer camps for kids with behavioral issues. I called and spoke to Master Shaw and I have to say that he really impressed me over the phone. He was so patient with me and all of the questions I had and really made me feel good about what his program could offer my son. My son has ADHD which in turn causes him to make very impulsive decisions, this makes finding a place for him to spend the summer very difficult. It takes a lot of patience and structure to make him successful and Master Shaw really encouraged me to bring him in for a trial run. When I went the Academy I was impressed with him and his staff. He again took the time to answer all of my questions and made me feel good about the decision of enrolling both my son and daughter, ages 9 and 7, into the camp for the duration of their summer. When we left from our first visit Master Shaw had a talk with my son about respect and was even showing how to do a proper handshake. I left feeling like I made the right choice. My kids have enjoyed every day they have been there and love all the activities they do throughout the day. They do a range of activities, from tumbling, to karate, to swimming and weekly field trips. My kids come home excited and exhausted, which is a plus! I feel so much comfort in knowing my kids are happy, active, and having fun this summer. What really did it for me was when I went to pick my son up and saw him participating in ju-​jitsu, showing confidence, interest, and focus for the first time in an activity. This has been a great experience and I am grateful for APSK Martial Arts Academy.

I found APSK Martial Arts Academy through a Groupon and when I looked at their website, I called to leave a message to ask a few questions. It was just after 7 in the morning but Master Shaw answered the call and made me feel secure about having my almost 4 year old — a little under the age limit — attend a week of Summer Camp. The camp is action packed! From 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, the kids are doing! Movie theater and swimming on the first day, swimming and dance and martial arts on the second day, Zoo on third day, dance, swimming, martial arts on 4th day and Skateland on the last day! Master Shaw and his instructors are great people! Absolutely NOT daycare, as they advertise, it is a learning and growing experience for your kid! My son will absolutely be returning!
