Gould’s Day Spa & Salon

Well I stopped by here the other day for a possibly quick mani and it’s not open anymore? It will be feathers (coming soon) wish I had known this before I stopped by since parking downtown is not the easiest task.

Excellent service today at your salon. All staff members were polite and friendly, including the front desk staff Larry. Stylist Terri Woodard did an exceptional job on my hair, meeting all my expectations. Ms. Bea gives an amazingly relaxing shampoo & rinse! Very reasonably priced. I will definitely return for my salon & spa needs.

The amenities are lacking with no whirlpool, permanently closed, and the sauna is out of order going on three months! Maintenance seems to be absent from the business plan.

I love Gould’s (I mean *love*) but I am done with this location. Last Saturday I went for an hour long deep tissue massage and I just couldn’t believe how rude the ladies at the front desk were. Dismissive and basically ignored me while they chatted with each other and I guess someone who is a regular customer.
Plus it is in the basement of the Peabody… and just dark and not new and just blah. Also add the fact that the entire time I was getting my massage I could hear someone on the phone because the walls are paper thin, and I just wasn’t a happy camper. There are so many better Gould’s in town so that is where I’ll stay.

I love this place. Terri is an amazing hair magician. My hair hasn’t looked this good and healthy in YEARS. They treated me wonderfully and fixed me coffee, since it was a morning appointment. I’ve been back twice!

I had a Fiji pedicure from Kivia that made my feet über soft and Terri styled my hair like a maven and woke me up with her witty banter. Thanks ladies!

Well went here for a color correction by Nicole and left with a botched bleach and dye job. I really didn’t think it was possible to ruin my hair even more from the previous two jobs that Nicole was trying to fix but it was.
I showed her a picture of DARK RED hair and left with three inches NEON ORANGE RED roots. I believe this is called hot roots.
When I questioned her job, which was nearly impossible since this place is in a basement with no windows she just said it was the lights making it seem bright. Well I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Don’t ever go to Gould’s, in fact run away as far as you can. I now have four dye jobs in one month and not even the color I want but… I no longer look like a bozo anymore so I’m not even going to go there. But who knows it could wash out

I had a fantastic experience. My hour long massage with Jackie was one of the best I have ever had. She really did a wonderful job working all of my kinks out. My facial with Carrie was also a wonderful experience. The staff is welcoming and competent. And, the cost is really competitive. I highly recommend this spa.

Got a foot reflexology massage on ⁶⁄₂₆. Very disappointed for such a swanky place. The massage therapist was pushing so lightly it felt like she was playing around and not massaging. I asked her to push harder and she added a minuscule amount of pressure, still not releasing any lactic acid. They had all the relaxing sounds and the good smells of a good spa, I was just very disappointed with the foot massage. Not worth $ 45, maybe worth $ 20… Maybe

Poorly managed. Loud stylists ruin the experience of a «spa.» Feels like you’re going in to a basement gym, not a spa.

The salon may be ok, but the fact that they advertise themselves as a day spa is comedic. The jacuzzi has not worked in years, steam room is being used for storage, and the sauna has a gap around the door large enough to run a hot wheels car through. Management knows about these problems and refuses to fix.

I saw Caprice, and she is hands down THE BEST stylist I have had in twenty years!!! I had my reservations about going somewhere new, but I would not hesitate to see Caprice again. She listened to what I wanted and to my concerns, and she did exactly what I wanted to my hair. After my hair was done, she gave me pointers and even wrote down the formula for my color. My only regret is that I am only here for two more weeks so I won’t be able to come here for touch up later. But, she is worth it, so I may just have to make the 10 hour drive ;)

I was staying at the Peabody for my brothers wedding back in May and my grandmother and I decided we needed a massage to help us deal with all the stress. We called down from our rooms to make appointments and they were very flexible and worked with our schedules. When we arrived we were greeted and escorted to a really nice waiting room that was small but so relaxing. Then we were introduced to our masseuses and were taken to our even more relaxing rooms. My masseuse was amazing. She applied the perfect amount of pressure and made me feel at ease and comfortable. I cannot remember her name due to my lack of memory but I highly recommend her. She is average height, African-​American, and looks to be in her mid 20’s. I will be going back to see her every time I am in Memphis.

I called Gould’s and was able to get a same-​day appointment for a haircut on a Monday, and it’s almost impossible to find a salon open on a Monday to begin with. I had Jennifer, who was very professional and friendly. I’m really picky about my hair, but she got my cut completely right. Usually I always have to fix my bangs upon returning from the salon, but this is the first time in years that I haven’t had to fix them up! Jennifer was happy to check with me multiple times about length to make sure she got it perfect! I am definitely going to be going there again.

I like Gould’s. I’m a guy, and the term «Day Spa» has some negative connotations for me a my brethren. (Yep, used the word brethren). That said, it’s in the basement of the Peabody, it’s easy to get into (from the street or the lobby), and when you walk up to the counter or into the «spa» area, it’s private, relaxed, and not froufrou. (Yep, used «froufrou»). I’ve only been there for the massage, as you won’t see me sitting down for too many manicures, but the service is great. I’ll say that Lisa is a great massage therapist, so I’d recommend her any day of the week. The four of five stars simply comes from price… it’s just barely over that level of «too much»… if things were $ 10 cheaper, it’d make for a better experience. Also, only appointment making with a great mobile site… yeah, that’s a win for any business.

Lazy Saturday afternoon walkin, the front desk is rude and tried telling me every service and provider was booked for the day. Manager happened to walk up at that time and say half of their bookings were cancelled and begged me to wait a moment.
Go with a pedi. God forbid if you want a drink. I listed 3 possible bourbons I’d like. It still took 20 minutes and I was told I’d have to pay a delivery fee from the bar one floor up.
Service provider was really friendly and funny. While she did a wonderful job on my feet the actual problem with Gould’s is the limited services and treatments. No massage, no hot stones, no paraffin. You are stuffed in a basement space that appears to be an afterthought.
All I’m saying is you can get better for less in a strip mall in Chicago or San Jose.

Yes it’s officially in the basement of the Peabody but whatevs.
I had a shellac manicure with Beverly A and it was awesome. You need to understand that my nails are short/​chipped/​flaky from all of the handling of camera stuff. Regular manicures last maybe 1 day so I don’t do them.
Shellac/​gel manicures work but only if the nail tech is dedicated/​precise — instead of running the brush off the end of the nail they are faced with the end of my fingertip so it takes them a ton of extra time. Beverly was unfazed. She didn’t take any short cuts and was super precise/​meticulous. She actually apologized to me for it taking longer (due to my short/​bitten nails).
Beverly helped me pick out a great color (hello OPI gel Big Apple Red) and also gave me some inside tips on where to eat in Memphis.
I’ve had gel/​shellac in Vegas ($ 98) and Newburyport ($ 58) so my final check of $ 30 was AWESOME!!! I’m a week in and my nails look flawless, I fully expect to get another 2 weeks.
I’d give Beverly a 5*. The overall spa/​location gets a 4* as there were some painter dudes all over the place which was a little weird. I can’t speak for the spa rooms as I was only in the salon.

I love the pedicures & manicures that are provided here. Marshae is an excellent manicurist who knows what she is doing. My nails were perfectly polished when i left the salon & the polish lasted 5days. I definitely will return & ask for Marshae. She is a lovely sweet girl.

Let me start by stating that the 5 stars is for my service providers– NOT the Gould’s Peabody location. Located in the basement of the Peabody Hotel, the actual location gets a 2.5– it’s in serious need of a face lift and may or may not feel like you are in a dungeon. (Seriously Gould’s fix this place up!) If you can see past these minor flaws, there are some of the best service providers I’ve encountered located in this tiny salon and day spa.
If you are familiar with me, you know I am a licensed cosmetologist and did hair for 2 years. As if that wasn’t enough, I was born with curly, thick, frizzy, unruly hair. In other words, I am one hella picky broad when it comes to my hair. No one can blow out and flat iron it quite like me, and cuts? Forget about it– many a hair appointment ended with me in tears in my car resembling an over sized poodle. No joke. I was lucky enough to meet Jonathan 2 years ago when I first relocated here, and my gorgeous locks thank the good Lord above every. single. day. There are so many fabulous things to say about this man I don’t know where to start. He has this uncanny ability to make my hair look like sex on my head. In addition to that, he does a phenomenal job of explaining exactly what he is going to do and reading the nonverbal reaction on my face in the mirror as well as listening to my requests, pleas and whining. He puts up with a lot folks. If you aren’t familiar, consultation is key when it comes to getting your hair done and finding a phenomenal stylist. He’s amazing at it, and deserves an award for his communication skills. Speaking of communication skills, does this man have a degree in therapy? No really. Every time I leave the Peabody, I feel like I just spent 8 hours on a couch with a very expensive therapist. He’s just THAT good. Do yourself a favor and book yourself an appointment with him immediately.
It would be cruel and unusual punishment to go to a day spa and not get your pretty little toes did. Don’t mind if I do! Lisa P is your gal for all things nail. This lady is the bees knees and I adore her smiley, happy, fabulous face. She and the other nail techs will keep you entertained during your pedicures in that back room– no worries. They are a hoot. Lisa gives a phenomenal pedi, and always makes my heels feel like butter. So much so that it feels like a chore to even walk on them. Wheelchair service to the parking garage please!
Speaking of parking garages– just an FYI. Do not park in the Peabody Hotel garage as they cannot validate– and it’s ridiculously expensive. You can park in the Blues City or the Peabody Place garage, both located on Peabody Place. They can validate for either of these spots, but it only takes a couple bucks off. It ain’t free, so make sure to bring a couple bucks for parking. Unless of course you are lucky enough to nab a prime spot on 2^nd Street in front of Automatic Slim’s and Huey’s. Then your golden.

Went for a massage here. It was A-​ok. I wish the rooms were a bit more quite… I could hear people outside talking and laughing, which I assume were the employees. And my massage was an hour, which i don’t think she went the total 60 minutes. I wish she would have been more detailed. Also they lotion did not really have a smell. I’m not sure if they do that on purpose, but I would like some smell option for relaxation, ya know?
