Rachel’s Salon & Day Spa

I am traveling for business and have a short trip. I decided I wanted my hair purple and Rachel’s salon delivered! I made a last minute appointment and they really accommodated me. I absolutely love my hair! Renee did a very through job making sure my color was on point and perfect! The other staff made sure to make me feel welcomed and was awesome! I really am considering traveling back from AZ just so they can do my hair again!

UPDATE: After my previous review, I was contacted by management. Being in customer service myself, I appreciate anyone who takes the time out to truly seek out how they can rectify a problem. I imagine my experience here was a rare one, and after I’ve let my hair grow some I may give Rachel’s another shot. Any business caring enough to try to fix a problem is one worth sticking with. Thank you guys for listening :)

Went in for a trim… Came out with more than four inches hacked off the bottom. I was growing my hair out, but I feel like I’m starting all over again.

This salon is hidden in plain sight and I’m sure glad I found it! Jessica cut and styled my hair and did a fabulous job! Highly recommended!

In Memphis for the weekend, and Kandie gave me the best haircut I have gotten in my life, hands down. Extremely friendly, fantastic service, great price!

My husband just had a cut from Candy and he is thrilled with the cut and pampering he received here. We’ve been searching for a great place downtown for him to walk to for a cut and Rachel’s has won our business. Plus I love stocking up on Aveda products here. I would review myself but I’m staying loyal to my stylist out in the burbs

This place is convenient to my work downtown. Kandie cuts my hair and she’s always on time and does a great job.

Jessica is the best! I shopped around for a stylist downtown for years until I found her. I like to try new fun things with my hair, and she is more than happy to help, while also being honest and making sure to draw the line so I don’t do anything that will damage my hair or not look right on me.
Some of the comments suggest that the place is dirty, and those people should just return their suburb palaces. The building is older being in the middle of downtown, but this adds to the experience. There is nothing dirty about this business, and it has an excellent view of Main Street making for great people watching.

I had a great experience here. I just flew into Memphis on business and Jessica took me in last minute. She did a great job dying my hair and It was fun getting to know her. It is a shame they do not get more business. The location seems prime, but they definitely need a facelift and some good marketing. I only didnt give it 5 stars because it was a little pricey for the salon. Jessica deserves to charge this rate but the salon needs to match her skill. I did not get a cut so I cant comment on that. Im also not sure about the other stylists, so Id say try Jessica first.
Also, this salon did not come up when I searched for hair salons downtown on Unilocal!I only found out about it through my hotel concierge. That should be fixed so more people find out about this salon

Visiting family and my sister in law and I decided to check out this salon. My sister had a friend recommended it. Jessica fixed my bad due job and trimmed my hair. She did an awesome job and she was very personable. The salon is very nice, some other reviews stayed it was dirty but we didn’t think so. If I lived here it would definetly be my salon!

I was in town for a wedding and walked in to Rachel’s for an updo. They fit me that afternoon.
I am conflicted about this one. The hairdo came out cute and the hairstylist was friendly.
BUT
The place is a total dump and pretty grungy everywhere except the main entrance. It did not feel very clean and no one bothered to sweep up the hair before I was seated in the stylist’s chair. The stylist handed me a bag of rollers and told me to pick out the largest ones. The rollers didn’t look clean and in fact had other customer’s hair on them. Not only did she put me to work, but it was pretty gross. The whole place was a mess and rundown. In need of a major deep cleaning/​facelift.

Probably the worst haircut I’ve ever had. Not only did she cut more than I asked for, she didn’t do it well (way uneven). Plus she made some slightly racist comments while cutting so I’m thinking I’ll go somewhere else next time.

I’m new to Memphis and went to Rachel’s this morning. I was able to call 15 min before they opened and get an appointment which was great for a Saturday. Liza spent a long time on my hair and had no problem making it shorter when I realized I didn’t ask for it to be as short as I wanted. Price was $ 40 which seems to be the standard starting point for Memphis salons. I’ll be going back.

Rachel’s Salon & Day Spa is a long-​time fixture in Downtown Memphis. It is a full-​service Aveda salon offering a full range of hair care for men and women and all races. (In other words, they can do White hair and Black hair.)
I have tried a few different stylists at Rachel’s, all good, but have recently settled on Kandie. Kandie has 18 years of experience and always has a stylish ‘do herself.
Her technique is careful but confident, and she did such a great job the first time she cut and colored my hair, I felt comfortable enough the next time to try something really bold.
I’m naturally a fairly dark brunette, and I told Kandie to make me blonde. (This falls under the drastic style change that is known as post-​breakup hair.)
Besides having some highlights previously, I could never really imagine myself as a blonde. But Kandie made me shockingly and successfully platinum. Talk about a confidence boost. I get nothing but compliments.
Rachel’s is located next to Court Square with large windows that provide people watching and natural light. My only complaint is that the salon also has fluorescent lighting, which is very harsh and unflattering, depending on the time of day.
Rachel’s also offers a full range of spa services, including manicures, pedicures, and massages. The Aveda products smell wonderful, and the service prices are reasonable. I have had a very relaxing massage (ask for Tawni), and as the entire staff is friendly and professional, I always feel pampered.

I was new to the area and wanted to find an Aveda salon, so I came across Rachel’s. I got a very nice haircut and lots of help with the eco-​friendly, socially conscious Aveda products I love.
They remembered me on my second visit and were just so friendly I am now a regular. They treat me well and don’t hesitate to help me find the best deals.

Rachel’s is a favorite downtown salon. I’ve been for quick trims, manicures and pedicures.
The stylists are all very experienced and friendly, and they always offer up their encouragement and professional opinions on your requests.
I love that they sell Aveda products, and I drop in to restock as necessary.
