McCloud River Lodge

It is a really affordable place and the bar gets popping at night. I was afraid that it was going to be too loud but I never had a problem with going to bed.
I didn’t use the water jets in the bathtub because it looked a bit discolored. Despite that… i didn’t have issues with the room.
It’s a little isolated from town and you have to walk through much of the neighborhood to get to the main street.
McCloud is a nice sleepy town and I definitely recommend a visit.

The staff was super nice and the location was great! It’s a very small and cozy lodge, only a few rooms. The bar area was nice — very warm and cozy. There was a pool table, music, and the local people were very friendly!
For the room — the jacuzzi was amazing… no doubt about that. We had the handicapped room, so there was a walk in shower with a fold down seat. We are not handicapped, so it was a little uncomfortable to take a shower in there. the shower is meant to be held when in use, not up on the wall. So we had to shower at an awkward angle. The bed was not comfortable at all. It was obviously old, it was lumpy! It was obviously deformed when just looking at it — not appealing. The fridge made a very loud and annoying buzzing sound.
Overall — great service and location. good food at the restaurant. loved the staff, the bar and the jacuzzi in the room. Everything else about the room — not so great.
I’d go back only if they replaced the bed!

First visit: Dinner in March the food was disappointing. Chicken was dry and WAY overcooked. Second visit in June was disappointing: Stopped in for a beer and lunch with my dad. All three draft beer taps didn’t work. Had a bottled beer and waited an hour for lunch. After the long wait my dad had to leave due to his medical condition. Food arrived as we were leaving. The community of McCloud deserves better.

This is my second trip to the McCloud River Lodge and it certainly won’t be my last.
After traveling for 11 ½ hours on the back of a motorcycle it was nice to walk into Aaron’s (the Lodge’s restaurant and bar). The owners, Connie and Brian, greeted us with a welcome back and an offer of a cold drink. Carol, another family member, yes this is a family ran business, asked us when we would like to put our reservation for dinner and pleasantly put us on the patio with a view that’s to die for of Mt Shasta after we had rested up.
Our room has very inviting jacuzzi and was spacious with a gas burning stove/​fireplace. A small fridge and coffee pot was also available in the room.
Breakfast and lunch is now served on the weekends and I must say Paul, their chef can make a mean breakfast.
Dinner was no surprise when it comes to quality and the dinner staff were always accommodating.
Being a guest there before I have seen the improvements since the past year and Connie and Brian are still improving on an almost perfect retreat.

As soon as we arrived at the lodge, we were pleasantly greeted by the owners and two bottles of wine. Unfortunately, as soon as we stepped outside, my boyfriend dropped one of the bottles of wine, and the bottle shattered all over the parking lot. We came back inside to ask for a broom, and the owners were very nice about cleaning it up for us. On top of that, they replaced that bottle of wine with an even better one!
Our room was cozy. It had a gas fireplace in the corner and a small refrigerator. Although we had neighbors on both sides of the room, it was very quiet.
The lodge has a restaurant called Aaron’s. Their food was good and their service was excellent. We ate here on both nights of our stay.
Five miles down the road, there is a beautiful hiking trail along the Mccloud River that leads you to three waterfalls. We started the hike towards the bottom of the river. Here, we saw the lower falls. This waterfall was really pretty, and the surrounding area seemed like a nice place to picnic during the summer. As we hiked up, we saw the middle falls, which was the best of all three falls. Then, towards the top, we saw the upper falls. The entire hike was less than three miles round trip. You definitely must see the falls if you’re in the area!

Loved this place!!! Its a five room lodge with a small covered patio connecting all the rooms. our room was a great size came with a jacuizzi tub and a good size shower fitting two comfortably, also shower did have a fold down chair for those who need it. room also had a coffe maker a fireplace, cable, mini fridge, and ample naturle lighting. in front of the rooms is a yard area where kids can play and pets are welcome. there is an on site restauraunt, we ate there for three days and liked everything we had. behind the restauraunt there is a cute outside area where there is a creek and a gazebo. with a few decorations it would b a cute place to have a small wedding. it is a 10 – 15 min drive from shasta ski park and across from the ski park is a free sledding area with an amazing hill! On the way to the ski park is a nordic center that has free cross country/​snow shoeing trails with suggested donations of 10 $ for adults and 5 $ for kids. ten miles down the street from the lidge is mc cloud resivoir. a beautiful place especially if u have a boat, however the beach area is almost non existent. we didnt want to eat out everyday so we brought our own portable bbq wich was no problem and the lodge also had a huge charcoal bbq for guest use. five miles up the road were lower, middle and upper water falls. a must see and an easy hike. 45 miles up from the lodge were burney falls, a 129 foot waterfall that is absolutely amazing. so amazing that president roosevelt wanted to make it the eigth wonder of the world. the town of shasta wich is adorable and quaint is only 17 min away is also a cute experience. i cant say enough things about this lodge!!! It is family owned and operated and u can feel the warmth and hospitality oozing from every corner. danny the bartender is excellent and the twins mickey and patrick are wonerfull servers. we left this place feeling like we made great freinds and memories! would def reccomend this place to anyone and it is a place we ourselves will visit again.

I was on a road trip throughout Northern California and wanted to find a central location spot to stay. I bought a 2 night stay deal on Living Social that was a good deal and the price I wanted to pay (under $ 100/​night). I am not about staying at places at the Westin Hotel level in this region of the state, but I do expect a clean room and that is not what I got. Maybe this is normalcy for McCloud to have the check in at the bar, but I was caught off guard. I really have nothing bad to stay about the owners or the service, but the room not being clean is a huge issue. The sink did not have hot water, the comforter had suspicious stains on it, the fireplace did not work and our heat came from a space heater, there was an inch of dust of the ceiling fan, the room smelled like a dead rat, the shower curtain needed to be tilexed and the drainage in the shower did not work well. The water rose to my ankles after minutes of turning the shower on. Again, I did not expect a 5 star resort, but anywhere I go, I do expect cleanliness which my only reason for a 2 star.

What a great place and the onwers are so cool. We had one of the rooms with the Jacuzzi and it was spacious and clean. The restaurant and bar were the best in town by far. You can’t beat the price either. Perfect for our long fishing weekend on the near by McCloud River
