Twisted Wok

Now called «Thai Go», this is a little place located right off of Jerusalem. I went right after a doctor’s appt and was craving some pad thai. I’m really on a mission to try as many Thai restaurants as possible (because I’m a big fan) and then I can really review them to the best of my abilities.
First of all, I was a bit confused because when I checked in, it only said Twisted Wok and the name of the place was not updated on Unilocal.One thing I want to point out is wow, this place is small! There were only a few tables set up, I don’t know if they were re-​decorating or whatnot but it was very limited. This place is kinda a chinese-​thai fusion restaurant. I walked in and I asked how long it would take to make an order of Pad Thai and they said 5 minutes! And boy they were right. Super speedy. The one thing I really like about this place is that you can make your food to order — aka you can add a little or a lot of heat! And I LOVE spicy. Depending on the place, I have to gage what their «spicy» is. So I stuck with medium. It definitely added a kick without being too firey. I think next time I will go spicer. But the pad thai was very good. I tasted the peanut a bit more than other places. I liked it! I’m giving it 3 stars for now but will update once I have tried more food here.
But as for my first experience, not bad!

Just had food from there it was ok, not great just ok. I’ve been getting food from there for a year now. It was much better before then it is now.

My family and I order food from this wonderful take-​out restaurant several time a month. I love that they use NO MSG in any of their food. My son usually gets a bad reaction from any MSG. The food, including the sushi, is uniformly fresh, well made, and reasonably priced. The portions are large. The orders are prepared promptly and they alter anything to suit your needs. We have several Chinese restaurants in our neighborhood, but we always go back to the Twisted Wok.

SUSHI REVIEW:
Awesome. It’s small inside, definitely only for take-​out, but as that’s what they do, they do it well.
Most Japanese food places give more when you dine-​in, but Twisted Wok is take-​out only, so you definitely get your money’s worth. And they are not all that expensive!
The sushi was delicious and prepared beautifully.
Also, their special rolls are great combinations I haven’t seen before and utilize most of my favorite fresh sushi ingredients.
Lastly, it’s clean and nice to watch them prepare the sushi in front of you.
I will definitely be headed back.

Ordered take-​out food one time. Had an assortment of items. Food was bland and mediocre. I think the left overs ended up in the garbage, because no one wanted to eat them. We will not be ordering from this place again.

Nothing to write home about. Twisted wok basically takes all things asian & attempts to put them under one roof. Unfortunately, most items here were an epic fail. Lousy sushi, mushy tempura, tasteless entrees & aloof service. To make matters worse, they completely tried to rip me off: I ordered the maki combo (tuna roll, salmon roll, california roll) and asked for them to be made as spicy rolls instead… i was told this would be a $ 1 PER ROLL upcharge (for spicy mayo!!!)…took a quick look @ the menu & discovered the price difference between ordering a tuna roll vs spicy tuna roll was 25 cents, not $ 1 — when i questioned this suddenly nobody could speak english, until of course i threatened to walk out without paying, at which time i got a bs excuse about entrees being priced differently because salad & soup are included — nonsense, but they took 15% off the bill so i let it go… in the end, not worth the money at all, lousy food & service — i don’t expect this place to last very long

Unilocalers, you have failed me and have only escalated my view of Long Island (PS IT’S NOT A GOOD ONE!).
The story goes like this: Two very indecisive foodies. One wants Sushi while the other wants Thai. *Type*
*Type* Thai food– Wantagh *Scroll Scroll Scroll* Twisted Wok; CHINESE, THAI, JAPANESE Hooray! *Reading* Good reviews, score let’s go! Ah compromising. Too bad neither had guessed they would be compromising their taste buds/​service expectations/​all in all wants in an establishment. Waa Waa what a sad ending.
When I first pulled up, I noticed it was more of a takeout place, but I’ve had some damn good food at small places so why not? Three Tables fill the space and there is a small counter/​sushi bar. We sat down and started checking out the menu. Funny, for a place that says they offer Thai food, they had a total of I think 8 items if that. I think my Chinese place that advertises as a Chinese place has more options but whatever. The «waitress» came to get our order which consisted of Gyoza Dumplings, Edamame, one piece of Tune, one piece of Kani, a Naruto Roll (no rice and wrapped in cucumber) Filling was — eel, kani meat, avocado (though I didn’t get any!!), an Avocado Salad and General Tao chicken combo. The choice of drink was whatever was in the beverage fridge. NO WATER! Like bottles, in a pitcher, Nada!
The sides of edamame and dumplings were served to us on styrofoam plates. Really? Couldn’t invest in some real plates for people dining in? Ikea’s pretty cheap, maybe you should check them out. My salad, again, served in a plastic take out container and was merely lettuce and on-it’s – way-​out avocado. No tomato, cucumber, red cabbage. Delightful! Where does charging $ 4.25 come into play? That’s what I’m wondering. The dressing was actually better than I’ve had as of late but that’s not even a saving grace. Oh and PS Ikea carries bowls too! The dumplings tasted like frozen food from my local supermarket section. The edamame was al dente. Completely undercooked even if that’s what they were going for. It was wra wra wra wrong.
On to the entrees (which were served on actual flatware). The sushi is not fresh. I REPEAT… THE SUSHI IS NOT FRESH!!! The Kani Sashimi tasted funky and the Tuna was totally bland. When I put a little piece of wasabi in between the rice and the tuna, it only made things go from bland to bad. Cheap wasabi anyone? The Naruto roll, as mentioned, was missing a main component but the roll did stay together better than most so thumbs up? I had a piece of the chicken. My friend put it best «it’s crunchy but chewy. It’s almost there». Almost being the key word here boys and girls.
Besides the major edible fail, the service SUCKED. Non attentive BS from this place and it wasn’t even busy! If it weren’t for such good company, it would of been a total waste of my time. Take it from me and forget the rest. TWISTED WOK IS HORRIBLE.

EDIT: Twisted Wok is «closed». The phone number still works, and the new place, «Thai Go», has a limited Chinese menu, so they’ll probably take your order and not tell you it’s a new place.

This Chinese restaurant (with a tiny Sushi bar, sizable Japanese menu and a handful of Thai offerings) recently came under new management. We never went to the old one, but as it stands right now, Twisted Wok is the best Chinese in the area, by far. And so inexpensive.
EDIT: Let me state that I’m focusing my ratings on the Chinese food, as I haven’t tried the Thai and am not knowledgeable enough on Japanese food to comment.

FOOD
We’ve only been there twice, but so far every dish we’ve had has been delicious. The chicken in the Chow Fun melted in your mouth; the breading on the chicken in General Tso’s stayed crispy in the sauce (which was tasty by the way). Their «Alaskan Roll» from the sushi bar was good as well, though I’m not a Japanese expert. Vegetable rolls, egg rolls, dumplings, all delicious. For the longest time I always said «I don’t like Chinese food», but now I’m asking «Wanna get Twisted Wok tonight?»
DECOR
If the rating was «décor of Chinese storefront takeout places», we’d be closer to 5/​5, as it has a cute sit-​down sushi bar, and a nice and comfortable dining table out front. It’s definitely a cut above your standard Chinese takeout, but you’re not taking a date here either. Since it’s a takeout place, I can’t give décor any higher than a 3, but you won’t be burned off by it.
SERVICE
No complaints yet, but nothing outstanding so far (although they do confirm your order after you give it, which is nice). But they haven’t screwed up any orders in 2 tries, which these days counts for something.
VALUE
Delicious food, generous portions and probably the cheapest take out around. The epitome of value.
OVERALL
I’ve tried this with family members, and so far none can think of a place in and around Massapequa, Seaford, etc. that has food this good. They seem to be cooking with fresh ingredients, and cooking them well. Definitely worth a try.
