The new leasing agent/manager is HORRIBLE. Uneducated and has no idea what they are doing. My son is moving out due to the new manager – I don’t know who does the hiring, but you can certainly get a job their if you are unskilled and uneducated. Rude, disrespectful and just plain stupid. All they care about is having a free apartment to live in. While the units are ‘charming’ … meaning SMALL and the rent is manageable – the grounds are not kept up and it is filthy. Oh, and they don’t even have enough respect to replace a tattered flag. Simple call to the local VFW to have it properly retired and disposed of – they will even replace it! Rude and will not listen to veterans that KNOW proper flag protocol.(ie if displaying at night, it should be lit… and the disgraceful tattered flag that is STILL on display) it’s the 4th of July… have some respect!

Rent here at your own risk… We lived here at Muir Creek for 18 months. While the overall experience, neighborhood, neighbors was okay, the actual apartments and slumlord management are not so wonderful. My babygirl and I chose to move here after looking at other apartments in the area. Mainly due to the fact they have washer and dryer hookups available in the unit we were going to rent. In fact, even though they charged $ 100 more per month for the washer and dryer hookups, to go along with the 1980’s furnishings, we overlooked that as having a washer and dryer in the apartment is a rare commodity in Martinez. When our rent was increased by $ 100 after having only been here for 6 months, I felt ripped off. We were thinking of moving at that instant, but they only gave us the notice of a rent increase several days before it would be too late to give the 30 day notice. The previous management team was actually quite pleasant. Sherri always greeted us with a smile and was helpful whenever we needed anything. In fact, along with the washer and dryer hookups, that was one of the reasons we chose Muir Creek. That all changed once the new manager was hired. I had been living next to her for several months before I even knew she was the manager. In fact, I thought she was just another resident of this complex. Little did I know she(mis)managed it. For the last several months of our stay at Muir Creek, they’ve been undergoing some exterior repairs. It has gone from a blighted complex, to a still blighted complex with a patchwork of repairs. The management here is so freaking cheap that they can’t even pay to have the trash and recycling removed on a regular basis. The dumpster area was always overflowing with garbage almost anytime I wanted to throw something away. What are these slumlords doing with all the rent they’ve been pocketing over the years? When I took the day off to finish spot cleaning and meet up with Melissa, the manager, she couldn’t even be bothered to end a personal call that she was on in the office. She instead sent her assistant whom had never done a move out inspection. I could tell she was nervous as she was reading the check out sheet cover to cover. Like any good employee that doesn’t want to get fired, she went over the checklist with a fine tooth comb. However, once we got back to the office, she didn’t inform me of any deficiencies that needed attention. As it was only noon on the day before our move out date, I could’ve easily dusted the blinds and cleaned the oven/purchased replacement drip pans before handing over the keys as those were the only two things I missed. Nowhere in the contract that we signed did it state the carpet had to be shampooed. If it had, we would’ve rented a machine to do it. While cleaning up, we noticed a patch of mold in the bathroom that had been covered up by the previous tenant/building maintenance. They also hid grout in the shower by stacking more caulking on top of it. I refused to clean this as it was obvious, that was already there before we moved in. Don’t be fooled by their Craigslist ads, mentioning an «architects dream complex» «elegant living» «fountains and a creek that runs throughout the immaculate grounds». None of this is true. The units are worn and weathered. The water has been emptied from the«creek» for many months. That’s probably a good thing as the moss and algae weren’t all that pleasant to look at nor smell while the artificial blue water was flowing. The inattentive management, price gouging, and run down units are probably the reason there are so few long term tenants here. They must have the worst occupancy rate in all of Martinez. I swear neighbors were coming and going all the time. Do yourself a favor, if you are looking to move into this neighborhood, check out Plum Tree or Muir Park next door. You’ll save yourself a lot of grief and possibly a few dollars.

***AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOST*** I’m going to give you the facts: Fact #1 — Rent increase. They give you a reasonable rate and a security deposit $ 400(see below), when moving in. After 6 months they raise the rent $ 100. Fact#2 — This place is out dated. Inside: Kitchen counters are Formica, the oven is electric coil, basic top and bottom white refrigerator, mildew in the bathroom which they cover up with spackle and paint, windows are single pane which produces moisture(water beads) in the inside having you to put a napkin on the window seal to prevent water from building up. Outside: They hired a crew to update the outside, which consisted of cutting out certain spots of the wood and replacing a «patch». After 2 – 3 months the place is still not painted. Just patches of unfinished work. They take pride in the landscape. There is no water in their«creek», which is good because if there was you would hear frogs all night long. The pool area, is super small. The gym or lack of it. The community laundry room has old machines which still runs by quarters and smell of wet mildew clothes. DON’T get me started on the garbage. They only have one compact garbage for the entire facility and two recycle bins. There is garbage everywhere. FACT #3 — WHATIRRITATESMETHEMOST! When we moved out we cleaned everything, literally scrubbed the floors/bathroom/kitchen, and vacuum. Our contract stated it needed to be clean, not DEEP cleaned. We later received a deduction for $ 155(interior cleaning because we didn’t clean the blinds, ceiling fan(which we did) & inside oven), hell if we knew that we wouldn’t have bothered to clean the place. We were also charged an $ 85 carpet cleaning(we didn’t shampoo), the property manager *rude voice* «vacuuming isn’t cleaning!!» WHAT??? Nothing said I had to shampoo the floors. Just a side note while living here for 1−½ years, I’ve seen 6 units leave this property and that was just on our side which contained 8 units. When leaving this place, even our neighbors said«I don’t blame you for leaving». Positive Feature 1. Washer/Dryer hookup available in certain floor plans 2. Patio area(front & back) 3. Walk in closet 4. Allow dogs(Negative note: not all owners watch their dog and allow them to poop on the grass) 5. The prior property manager Sherry and Monica was super super nice. They were the reason why I signed to this property. I wish they were still there. BTW-When we gave our notice the property manager said to us we didn’t drop it off on the date we stated. Are you kidding me? Are you calling me a liar… Well Rachel, I guess she did, because it cost us an extra $ 50. After reading all this, you decide for yourself. It is my mission to let everyone know what they are getting into if they do decide to go to this place. I’ll go to every social media network if I have to! Please UFC this review and help me spread the word!

I visited a friend who moved into a 1 bedroom upstairs apartment at Muir Creek back in April, and I found the complex and her apartment charming! The 1 bedroom was approximately 680 square feet at $ 1400 a month — steep but Martinez is a desirable area, and the complex is well maintained. The bedroom is large enough to fit a queen size bed, furniture AND a full-size chair, and the open living room/dining room area has plenty of room to spread out with reasonably sized furniture, and was gloriously bright from the many windows. I loved that about the small kitchen as well — two windows allowed tons of natural light to shine in, and the dark cabinetry didn’t ultimately darken the space at all. Another highlight of the living room is a fireplace, what a treat during the rainy months! This complex is also very close to the highway 4 onramp, shopping and restaurants, and even a reasonable walking distance to a movie theater. 3 of us took a walk around 11:00 p.m. on a Saturday night, and there was no noise at all from neighbors, the street or anyone. For being in a well-populated area, this is a very safe little retreat. This particular apartment didn’t include inside laundry, my friend said she uses the complex’s coin-operated machines and has had no problems. About a year prior I visited this complex for my own relocation and it was a strong contender, it was just wasn’t the right time. Now that I’ve been able to visit this complex and see what they truly have to offer, I highly endorse them(solely from a visitor’s point of view) as a great place to live. The 680 sq. feet apartment is perfect for a single person, perhaps with a small pet, but would likely be a bit claustrophobic for even the love-iest of lovebirds. Couples and roommates definitely explore the larger apartment options.

I lived here for over two years and I have to say, do not live here! I had problems with mold. To top it all off, when I left, they took my deposit and charged me over $ 700 on top of that! They said it is normal to do this so that they could redo the carpets, clean, etc. in total they charge over a $ 1000 for all of these services. That is bulls**t. Hell, I don’t know who they hired, but if it costs that much to clean, then they need to get someone else. I could have done all the work for less than $ 300. On top of this, they said they would send me to a creditor if I didn’t pay. These people are scumbags. Don’t live here or you will regret it!
