Dr. Melamed is the ultimate caring, knowledgeable doctor. He takes a conservative approach to spine issues which I greatly appreciate after getting differing opinions that recommended major surgery for my cervical spine issues. I am now pain free and have Dr. Melamed to thank. I highly recommend Dr. Melamed to anyone with spine issues.

Dr. Melamed embodies all the strengths one would expect from a excellent surgeon. He is a master of his craft and a true subject matter expert when it comes to orthopedic surgery; he is compassionate, always willing to give generously of his time to ensure all his patient’s concerns are addressed; and he puts them first. Dr. Melamed has always gone the extra mile to make him self available to me, which is truly impressive given his busy schedule and the number of patients vying for his attention. I highly recommend this exceptional physician.

I am a 65 year old woman from the Boston area who now lives in Marina Del Rey for the last year and a half.
About 17 – 18 years ago, my MRIs showed a problem in my lumbar area, and I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis.
After waiting for months to see one of the best orthopedic doctors there, I was told to live with my pain. Nothing could be done for me. I was given drugs and had to endure a procedure, spinal root nerve block, every three months along with cortisone shots in each hip.
These procedures gave some relief for about two months, and I counted the days until my next one.
My 5’2″, 125 lb body was on 80 mg. Oxycodone/​day plus all the 50 mg. Tramadol I wanted.
For Years!
I found a pain management doctor here who had different ideas and procedures, but luckily I saw the D.I.S.C. Sports and Spine Center building here in the marina and called to ask if any doctors accepted Medicare.
I was told that four did, and while googling them, I saw that one had spondylolisthesis in his bio. It was Dr. Hooman Melamed.
I made an appointment hoping that some great, new technology would be available now to help me. Dr. Melamed looked at my MRIs and said that no, nothing new… my heart sank. Then he said that he does these surgeries all the time!
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!
I saw him in January, had the surgery in February, and am now being weaned off of all of the drugs from the surgery.
I am a new person. After all those years of constant pain, I had a horrible life. I was so limited in what I could do. I now have three screws and a cadaver disc added to my spine doing what Dr. Melamed intends them to do.
I see him often on tv on The Doctors Show, and what he has done for people is so amazing.
My problem was pain. There are others who can’t walk until they see him!
Patients come from all over the country to see him.
I moved here to be near my grandchildren. I never dreamed that after all these years of suffering with back pain and having to be addicted to pain meds, that I would find total relief thanks to finding Dr. Melamed.
I tell everyone I can about how wonderful he is. I want to spread the word so that there is not some person with pain who could be helped if only they would see him.
It was definitely worth it for me!

An honest, ethical physician. I’ve read up and researched him thoroughly. Most importantly, he is skillful.
I went to him for a second opinion for lingering back pain. I was considering opting for surgery but Dr. Melamed suggested that I strengthen my back gradually through guided exercise and therapy. So far it’s been quite successful.
I read up on all his blogs and his health tips. It’s nice to have a conservative clinician. I am quite appreciative.

A year ago, I went to see Dr. Melamed regarding pain in my lower back & down my legs. During my consultation, Dr. Melamed told me that he could help me. After recovering from surgery, the pain in my legs was gone, I found the doctor to be a very caring & honest person. He tells you up front what he can or can’t do for you. Dr Melamed performed a ACDF surgery on me Sept 22 2014, he straightened my spine and cured me of my nerve damage. I am having lumbar surgery in August and I would not let any other doctor operate on me but him. He is so gifted and one of the best spine surgeons in the U.S.

Dr Melamed is extremely knowledgeable and spends as much time as you need to answer your questions. He also addresses your overall health which I found impressive. He is a pretty special physician and human being.

I think I drove Dr. Melamed’s staff insane during the pre-​op paperwork and MRIs, etc. They were beyond patient and kind. A million thanks.
AS FOR Dr. Melamed … he explained my neck surgery in great detail and even drew little diagrams so I’d understand what was what.
After I’d gone through the entire procedure, I wasn’t sure if I’d even had surgery! Apart from the
anesthesia inspired headache, I had no pain, no discomfort and had to look in the mirror to make
sure he’d even done the surgery. Can you believe that?
I cannot say enough about Dr. Melamed. The guy is a total GENIUS. I would recommend
him to anyone who has a problem, and would trust him implicitly to make decisions on my behalf
if necessary.

Dr Melamed proved to be an exceptional surgeon. My husband has had several back surgeries and has always experienced lots of pain and discomfort afterwards. Following his last operation by Dr Melamed he felt great afterwards and continues to do so more than 6 weeks post-​op.
He was good about listening to my husband’s concerns an was willing to spend time explaining procedures and aftercare.

Dr. Melamed is a great surgeon and a great person. He has a lot of compassion and empathy for his patients. He is part of DISC in MDR which is a group of excellent surgeons, there is no better place on the westside. Trust me!

Dr. Melamed is one of the most talented and amazing surgeons I’ve ever seen. He operated on my best friend who had 2 previous surgeries and both surgeries were botched. Thanks to Dr Melamed she’s now 100% pain free. He has the most professional staff we’ve ever seen. I accompanied my friend to the appointment. Our only complaint is that it’s hard to get to see him right away due to his busy schedule but it’s well worth the wait. He listens, did thorough exam and had very clear discussion about the plan. We also found out he has been featured in many TV shows. If you have spine problem, Dr. Melamed is the only one to see.

From the moment I met Dr Melamed I completely trusted him. He has amazing skill as a surgeon and he really cares about you as a person!
My surgery was very long and complicated and the results are nothing short of miraculous!
He is always researching the newest technology and I was the lucky recipient of all his knowledge and skill.

My experience with Dr. Melamed was excellent. The office and hospital conditions were very good and I was up and walking the day after surgery. His advice during recovery reflected his expertise and genuine concern, and was important in the entire process. I have recommended Dr. Melamed to friends and family or anyone who has back problems.

He may be a great doctor but I’ll never no. I went to him for a second opinion. He mostly had his staff interview me. I brought in a current MRI and the findings. I spent not more than 15 minutes with him and the bill was in excess of $ 500.00. His fee to just read the MRI was about $ 350 and that was on top of the office visit. This sort of billing is the reason that insurance companies don’t want to pay for anything any more. It’s outrageous and is hurting the entire medical system.

Words fall short when trying to express my praise for Dr. Melamed. I came to him after having several prior cervical spine surgeries that produced less than desirable results. Due to these past surgeries my case was rather complex, yet from our very first consultation it became apparent that Dr. Melamed had the expertise to not only understand my case, but that his approach was different and obviously at the cutting edge of current surgical techniques. Dr. Melamed clearly explained the intricacies of his proposed surgery and included me in all necessary medical decisions. I realized I was in the very best medical hands and for these reasons had the faith to allow him to operate on me.
It is obviously important to have the best possible doctor whenever going into a planned surgery, but it is crucial to have a superior doctor in the event that unforeseen events do occur. Dr. Melamed did an excellent job in surgery and the operation itself went smoothly, however, through no fault of his, I developed an unknowable post surgical complication unrelated to the actual orthopedic surgery. I had blood clots in my legs that traveled to my lungs. This was a life-​threatening event and even though Dr. Melamed was not at the hospital when it occurred, he raced over and was there within a very short time. Dr. Melamed immediately took charge of the medical team that was assembled to help me, and without the slightest exaggeration, he saved my life! I cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel toward this incredible doctor. When I needed his medical expertise he was there, but this man went far and above all expectations when he visited me every day during my long hospital stay. His bedside manner is warm, assuring, and he had a great sense of humor that cheered me up during a most difficult time.
The medical office itself is pristine and loaded with modern high tech equipment. No doctor is able to provide the superior level of medicine that Dr. Melamed does without a terrific support staff. It must be mentioned that the doctor’s Physician’s Assistant, Michael Olschansky, as well as his entire office staff, is phenomenal. The helpful and warm manner in which these friendly and capable people treated me made a scary surgery so much easier. I truly appreciate that they, as well as the doctor himself, put themselves out to go above and beyond for patient care.
It has been three months since my surgery and I am most optimistic. I’m healing slowly, as this was a long-​standing problem that developed and progressed over several years, however even at this point of my recovery I can feel steady healing and clearly observable progress. I have already been able to cut back on the pain medications I was on for quite some time and now see a future without them.
I simply can’t recommend Dr. Melamed enough and strongly suggest anyone even remotely contemplating spinal surgery make an appointment to visit him.
He saved my life and I will forever be grateful to have been in his care.

Dr. Melamed saved my Husband’s life and his expert, miracle surgeries enabled him to walk again! We were blessed to find him after a Torrance doctor performed a botched surgery & 3 unnecessary epidurals which made his condition worse leaving him unable to sit, stand, or walk, and a life-​threatening staph infection which would have killed him!!!
