Andrew Yun, MD

I’m a 49 yr old female with a torn labrum who had osteoarthritis. Im active and wanted an experienced surgeon with excellent results. I did my research and found Dr. Andrew Yun who performed an anterior total hip replacement.
On my first visit he explained everything in detail, was professional and I was impressed. His staff; Alejandra, Jane in the office, Jane in surgery scheduling and Jerick were all excellent in scheduling, coordination, and answering questions.
The Day of surgery 12−14−15, his team was very skilled and detail oriented. After the surgery, the doctor and his team visited me to explain their expectations. St. John’s Hospital was excellent. No complaints. Nurses, physical therapists, pain management was excellent. I was discharged with only one night in the hospital with specific exercises to do with a follow up appointment in 3 weeks. During that period, I called to ask a couple questions and was immediately helped with my concerns.
Recently, had my first post operation office visit with Dr. Yun, and he explained his expectations for this visit and for future months while I heal. I am able to walk without groin pain, and my mobility is getting better daily. No limp! I’m still healing from surgery. This was my first major surgery and I am very happy thus far. My insurance gave me an option for physical therapy and I accepted. I would definitely recommend Dr. Yun and his entire staff, they are exceptional. I appreciated what they did for me. Thank you for all you do Dr. Yun!

Notes, my THR’s were in 2012, and I was 29 and 30 when they were done.
Dr. Yun is an excellent surgeon, but he is not going to hold you hand or comfort you during the process. He’ll educate you, and move on. He has a lot of patients to see and once you’re at the THR point, it’s fairly cut and dry.
His office staff were hit and miss for scheduling, answering emails and questions etc.
St. Johns may be a state of the art facility but their pain management, at least for me, was seriously lacking. I ended up in shock and they deliberately ignored all of Dr. Yun’s orders regarding my pain management and medicine distribution. Forcing me to the outside limits of when my medication «could» be given. 6+ hours vs 4 even thought Dr. Yun explicitly requested 4 hours.
When you’re trying to manage pain, everyone knows CHASING the pain doesn’t work. They ended up giving me a bunch of meds that then made me horrendously sick, and decided I just couldn’t take the medication itself – not that it was the combo and amounts they’d given me… the night nurses were terrible about distributing medications but I had some fantastic CNAs who did what they could. Bringing me hot packs when my body temp dropped and I started shivering uncontrollably from the pain.
The problem is, when you’re younger, all of your nerves are still alive and kicking which means your pain levels will be much higher than that of older patients. The staff simply wasn’t equipped to manage a younger patients pain.
I was in 4 days or so for my first THR because the pain kept holding me back from making progress. For my second, I was out after 2 or 3 because I forced myself to complete the check list, and requested to be discharged. The pain was so incredible, I just wanted to get home where my husband could give the medication to me on the appropriate schedule.
So Dr Yun get’s 5 stars for his skills, 3 for bedside manner, 3 for office, and St. John’s gets a 2. I’m honestly afraid of ever having to get revisions, but hopefully I’m lucky and they last me 20 years and I’ll have a few less nerves to feel the pain.

After dragging my feet for 6 months I finally called Dr. Yun’s office for an appt, that was in late 2010. Xrays showed worn down groin issues which were my pain issues. Once I scheduled the replacement I was relieved. Surgery went relatively well as far as I know, this being my first replacement at 72.
Hospital experience at St. Johns was horrible, for what insurance pays… what we all pay…
Long story short, going on 4 yrs soon, I’ve ended up with femoral nerve damage which has my thigh numb and then there is the IT band mess down the side of thigh…
Then there is the shorter leg mess.
I’ve been working on it all for almost 4 yrs.
It’s been a tough experience and sure has soured my mouth and mind for any more surgery.
I see Dr. Yun reported I did not see him post op, that is a BOLD FALSE, I went into the office 3 times post op back in 2010 and 2011 and probably had 10+ email exchanges with his PA over a couple yrs.
I am not an irresponsible person. I’ve done everything and followed all instructions and MORE, and I’m pretty ruined from this surgery.

Dr yun is a Genius. I have had both hips replaced, had 2 scoped knee surgeries and lots of knee pain the past 30 years. I was referred to Dr. yun and I couldn’t be happier. I just had total knee replacement, Dr. Yun was great in the pre-​op immediately saw me after surgery and everyday after surgery. His team is the best, everyone was more than perfect, friendly and very professional.
I couldn’t recommend any higher.

Dr. Yun performed hip surgery on me Feb. 14^th, 20 013. I am a 73 year old male. I was in so much pain, I truly did not know how I could live out my days being immobile and in constant discomfort. I had gone to other doctors. Happily a friend told me to see Dr. Yun. I also had backaches due to spinal stenosis. I decided to proceed with hip surgery first. Dr. Yun is the best, exacting, professional I’ve been too. I had surgery on Thursday afternoon and left hospital on Saturday morning with my wife driving me to Santa Barbara area. Max was 3 weeks recovery downtime. Since then I have walked, danced, hiked, golfed, gone boating and recently went zip lining in HI. I have had no complications of any kind and my back has also improved so much I will not have further surgery. I know all cases are different, but my case is nothing short of miraculous with Dr. Yun performing the miracle! I did not need a rehab, or Physical Therapy… I convalesced at home. It has been 8 months since my surgery. They say you are the best you will be at l year after surgery. I still have 4 months to go. Perhaps I will take up skiing!!!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Yun and I’m impressed with his knowledge and expertise in the field of joint replacement. The staff and facility were top rate and I could not have had a better experience. This review is for his Marina Del Rey office, be sure to grab a bowl of Matzo ball soup across the street at Jerry’s afterwards.

Let me start off by saying I have not received a joint replacement from Dr. Yun, but felt compelled to share my experiences in the operating room. I have been in orthopedics almost two decades and can honestly say I am impressed with the orthopedic team at Saint Johns. I have had the pleasure of closely working with Dr. Yun’s hand picked team and have seen first hand individual compassionate care driven by precision in the O.R. Dr. Yun and his team have developed an unmatched technique to ensure proper alignment through state of the art techniques and proven methods with great results. The orthopedic team at Saint Johns Hospital have been recently recognized by consumer reports as one of the top 5 safest hospitals in the nation for joint replacements. I have recommended Dr. Yun to close friends and family and will continue to do so. If you are looking for a surgeon that provides great outcomes then look no further. My family and I have been to many doctors and surgeons throughout our lives and Dr. Yun ranks right up there at the top of ALL surgeons and doctors. We commend Dr. Yun for his professionalism, innovativeness, thoroughness in explaining what the xrays showed at a level that we could understand (comparing what the xrays show and what a normal body xray looks like), and his great attitude towards us. Fortunately, we did not have knee or hip replacement issues and physical therapy took care of the pain in my knees and my husband’s issue was his back. I then went back to Dr. Yun in August forwhat I thought was my hip. Dr. Yun was so caring and informative of what he thought my problem was in my back and not my hip.
We have friends (one friend was so crippled he could hardly walk — operation was February 2013) who Dr. Yun performed hip and knee replacements on. They are now pain free, recovery was minimal — no rehab required except for «Walk and Wait». I believe the innovative surgical procedures Dr. Yun performs (going in the front vs «traditional» down the side of the hip — I hope I said this correctly) without having to go to a rehab facility is what made the recovery time of our friends so fast. We have another friend who had the «traditional» down the side of the hip replacement performed in May 2013 by another surgeon and she was in the rehab facility for ~3 weeks and still had a ways to go.
Thanks to Dr. Yun for improving the quality of life of so many — he must sleep well at night being a «miracle» surgeon. We all are fortunate to have Dr. Yun in our «hip pocket» if we need him — we know he will be there for us!

I’m a 56 yo male firefighter who had a partial knee replacement 3 years ago that never worked well. I saw Dr Yun and he recommended a total knee. I couldn’t be happier. After lots of PT my athletic life has returned and my pain and inflammation are gone. My knee has not worked this well for 10 — 15 years and the arthritic pain is gone now and my life has returned to normal.
The old implant had come loose and caused damage and scarring and made the surgery more difficult than a first time TKR and I can’t believe how good the results have been.
Dr Yun is a very gifted surgeon who I would recommend highly.

I had a anterior miminally invasive hip replacement from Dr. Yun and his associates. The whole team from start of first appointment to discharge from hospital is the best. I felt like a important person the whole time. Dr. Yun began at the first appointment by explaining everything in understandable terms. It was very clear what procedure I needed and why. The scheduling was easy. Insurance cleared and contacted. I checked in at the hospital (St. John’s) and they treated me very caring.
Each staff member introduced themselves and I even met Jason (surgical assistant) who had answered my email questions before the surgery.
It was reassuring to have any last minute questions answered. Anestheoloy was great and discussed my needs. I have severe scoliossis so a general was required. Post op the nurses were great. Gave lots of information. When I went to my room I was asked if I needed anything to just ring. When I did ring they were very attentive. Meds were given on time and I could tell checked for correctness. Now I will tell you how much I love the results I got from my surgery. I was up and walked on my new hip in the afternoon of the day of surgery. NO PAIN! Yes some pain from the surgical site but none from the hip. WOW! Within 2 days I was walking all over the floor I was staying on. I checked out. I went home to care of my husband. I was able to go to the bathroom and shower that same day. You will be up to the bathroom allot. It is easy to walk to and from the bathroom. I had the surgery on Thursday. Today is Monday and I did my excersises and took a walk up the street 4 houses. NO PAIN!
There is stiffness that sets in. I try to get up every 1 – 2 hours and walk around. I feel like my life is being returned to me. I was looking at doing less and less of things I enjoy in life. Now I am looking forward to getting out and having fun. Dr Yun and his team were a God send to me. They were all kind, informative and caring. Just what you want in a good medical team.
