Robert Moses Park Dog Run

Unimpressed. Was excited to find out about a dog park near my home so that I didn’t have to trek out of the ‘hood– not worth the convenience. To start off, it is nearly impossible to find, as it is hidden below an overpass between first ave and fdr. No signs directing you, nothing. Second, the gates are tricky and jam frequently (I saw multiple people struggle) and my dog bumped her head hard on the wrought iron while trying to exit. Third, no separate section for small dogs– and the time I was here I found there were many «mini» sized dogs with very high strung owners… made for a stressful environment. Fourth– no baggies or water. Fifth– the park is more of a run, long and narrow, down a hill. On a side note-​I found the owners surprisingly rude. Won’t be back, stick to my usuals.

One of our favorites, but only based on the location. It’s incredibly convenient for east siders, and the owners and owners there are mostly great minus some bad apples who you learn to avoid. Also, as a comment to one of the other posts, there IS running water. The water is not available within the park, but there are plenty of dog bowls. You just pick one up, and take it to the side of the park next door and there are two water fountains you can use to fill up the bowl.
I also love the fact that the location is a bit hidden, which restricts foot traffic. Off-​topic, but the Madison Sq and Washington Sq Dog Park seem like some odd version of a daytime nightclub except instead of lascivious, dirty men oogling the girls, it’s tourists and lonely hearts oogling your dogs.
Despite that, there are a few downsides:
— It is tiny
— Being so close to the UN, this dog park is usually off limits during the UN general assembly
— There isn’t nearly enough shade especially mid-​day in the summer
I wouldn’t count this as a «destination» dog park (definitely don’t travel to get here if you’re not in the neighborhood), but it’s an awesome asset for the murray hill/​midtown east locals.

–Concrete covering keeps your dog from getting dirty.
–really narrow but kinda long.
–no water fountain. But you can get water from the nearby playground.
–no poop bags supplied. Bring your own.
–not really crowded due to poor location.
— people were friendly and the dogs were well behaved.
Overall Blu and I enjoyed our time here (about 2hrs) due to the energetic dogs and friendly people.

If it weren’t for Unilocal,I never would have known this run was here. The owners I’ve met here seem pretty friendly.
There’s decent room here for the dogs to play with each other.
I wish they had running water, but regardless, it’s a much needed open space to let your pup off leash.

Well kept dog run next to the UN. It was hard to find at first. It is on 42^nd second st towards FDR but I’m glad I persevered. It’s quite small but clean. Since there’s really no close dog parks for mid-​towners, this works perfect. When I have time, I do try to go to the one on 51^th and FDR. There’s water, plastic bags and other doggies to play with.

I would give it five stars, but I enjoy the place to myself too much :)
The up-​keep is minimal, but serviceable for the need of the run. It truly is more run than park because of the dimensions. An approximate 30 yard by 8 yard rectangle, this dog walk/​run is tucked in-​between a park, on ramp to FDR south and United Nations. I hadn’t found it for the three months I lived here, until a fellow dog owner explained, in detail, it’s location.
I do like it as long as dog owners aren’t standing in the middle of the run. There should be a sign up explaining the arrangement of human to dog areas when the park is busy. Other than that, this is a hidden gem for canines in Murray Hill.

Not a bad run but nothing special.
Things it has going for it:
— Adequate seating for humans
— Plenty of shade in summer
— Concrete ground cover keeps your dogs cleaner than other ground cover
— Bathrooms for humans nearby
— Good fencing, gates and entry area
Things it has against it:
— No poop bags provided
— No separate large and small dog runs
— Could be bigger… it is long and narrow
— No water
I have been to this park only once and I have to say this dog park isn’t bad. The people there seem nice and attentive to their dogs. There is nothing much to this run compared to others in Manhattan. Add separate small dog run and bring in water and this is a solid 3 star run.
Dog runs/​parks I have been to so far:

This is where I used to take a Portuguese water dog a few years ago; she wanted nothing but to fetch a tennis ball over and over, and this run is great for that.
There weren’t a lot of people who went up there, usually; I used to like to point out to people why the second-​story windows in Tudor City facing the East River were mere slits while the rest were French windows. (Fact: when Tudor City was first built, there were slaughterhouses on the East River, and the developers naturally wanted to shield the well-​heeled tenants from this harsh reality any way they could.)
This is a very well-​maintained dog run, but again being that it’s paved, I’d be sad if it weren’t.
