I was referred to Dr. Ying to get a tooth extracted. Having being traumatized as a kid in getting dental work, the only apprehension I have in going to the Dentist is the painful numbing injections. That’s the only part I TRULY DREAD. I remember once the dentist numbed the area about 5 times because I could still feel the crucial pain of the drilling. Needless to say, Dr. Ying wasn’t exaggerating when he said he has a good hand. On a pain level of 0 – 10, ten being most painful, I would say 0 – 1 on getting numbed. I was pretty impressed and did not feel a single thing. And NO I am not exaggerating here. My best tooth extraction experience. Staff is nice and it was a quick in and out.
In conclusion, Dr. Ying is your go to guy for tooth extractions! :-)

I had two upper wisdom teeth removed. I am very terrified of getting dental work done. I have had some bad experiences in the past Dr. Ying’s office was fantastic. Yesenia prepared and made me feel at ease prior to the procedure. I was shown and educational video about the procedure prior to having it done. I can honestly say it went very well. Dr. Kim removed both teeth in what seemed to be 5 minutes. I did not have any pain. Very glad Dr. Fred Kim referred me here.

Dr. Ying is the best for wisdom teeth removal.
I had to get all 4 removed but did the bottom 2 first and the upper 2 a few months after. In hindsight, I should’ve just gotten them all removed at the same time but now you have a review from a person who had both general and local anesthesia.
Dr. Ying was very thorough in his consultation, answered all my questions and put me at ease. I believe he also trains other dentists on oral surgery. The bottom 2 were impacted and I was strongly advised to get general anesthesia as there would be a lot of blood and pulling. The day of the surgery, I was extremely nervous and my heart rate was very fast as they hooked me up to a machine that monitors breathing and heart rate. The middle aged blonde nurse saw my heart rate and was very comforting and told me not to worry and that everything would be alright. Dr. Ying then came in and was also very comforting. He put his hand on my shoulder and said everything’s gonna be ok. Next thing I know I’m back at home with a mouth full of gauze. Dr. Ying personally called me later that night to see how I was doing which was a really nice touch on top of their already great service.
I came back a few months later to get my upper 2 wisdom teeth out and opted for just local anesthesia since they were not impacted. I did feel like they were a little bit pushy about general anesthesia but not too much. The warm service was still there on the day of the surgery especially by the middle aged Latina nurse who helped me. The doctor came in the whole thing was over in like 5 minutes and I didn’t feel a thing. I didn’t get a call later that day like I did with the previous extraction though. Maybe because it was just local?
Dr. Ying is really good at what he does so if you need your wisdom teeth extracted, definitely check him out. A special mention needs to be made for his nurses though because they really go out of their way to put you at ease. Thank you to the two very nice nurses who really went above and beyond to make me feel well taken care of!

BAIT and SWITCH — Spoke to the practice and received a form estimating my payments to be $ 180 after insurance. Obviously this practice should know that the treatment I received would not be covered and I was stuck with a bill for an additional $ 290, totaling $ 470 for a 15 minute procedure. When I called the office they didn’t bother to help and said I owed the money and sent my bill to collections. They could have worked with me because it was their negligence that cost me all this money. STAY AWAY!

We could not have had a better experience. My son had 4 teeth extracted. Everyone was friendly and helpful and professional. Dr. Ying even called later in the day to make sure he was feeling fine. And he was. No pain at all. No complications. Just smooth and easy.
We had initially overpaid a bit, but when the insurance company paid them, they promptly sent me a reimbursement check. Nothing but good things to say about this office!!!

Dishonest Billing and Terrible Customer Service!
Tom Ying was referred to me by James A Nguyen, DDS who was treating me.
Dr James did a comprehensive exam with the latest x-​ray technology. He gave Tom a comprehensive report on the wisdom tooth that needed extracting. Tom did a superficial visual exam and had me watch a video explaining the problems that could happen as a result of the extraction.
His staff came in and collected the amount for the office visit including the extraction. I paid in full.
The extraction went flawlessly. It took him 2 minutes tops.
A month later, I get a bill for $ 100.00 for «the exam» he never did, because his trusted colleague and friend had already did it and gave him all the info.
I tried to reason with the staff about it and even asked the referring dentist to talk to him.
Nothing happened. I refused to pay and they sent it to collections. Needless to say, James A Nguyen, DDS didn’t get anymore of my business as a result.
I am figuring out that it is very difficult to find an honest dental professional in the South Bay.

I had a fairly straight-​forward wisdom tooth extraction procedure with Dr. Ying and was very pleased with the entire experience.
The office is immaculate and very comfortable. Everyone from the receptionist to the dental assistants to Dr. Ying himself was extremely professional and friendly.
The procedure itself was extremely easy – I was done (with full anesthesia) in under 40 minutes (just the top two wisdom teeth).
At my follow-​up appointment, I was visibly upset due to the recent loss of my grandmother. Dr. Ying was so caring and sweet. He sent a condolence card afterword which was so sweet.
Would definitely recommend!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ying!
I had put off removing my wisdom teeth for 6 years. Pain became more frequent so I decided it was time to bite the bullet. I HATE dentists or any oral surgery due to a few past experiences. My dentist Dr. Homyak (who is also amazing), referred me to Dr. Ying. Thank god she did. He is the best. SUPER informative and thorough.
A quick poke for my IV and less then an hour later I was awake, in no pain and finally those darn wisdom teeth were out. Obviously pain kicked in once anesthetic wore off but he prescribed me medicine to keep me comfortable. If it wasn’t for a dry socket I developed I would have been ‘mostly’ pain free after just 2 – 3 days.
He met me on a Sunday morning to insert a medicated mesh into my socket to eliminate the pain from the dry socket. Within 15 minutes I was no longer in any pain. You have no idea how relieved I was.
It’s now a week since my surgery and all pain is gone with the exception of the one dry socket. He still has to put the mesh in there every few days but the pain isn’t as intense so I think its healing, plus with the mesh, there is no pain at all. My left side is completely pain free.
If you have any doubts or fears about getting an extraction or wisdom teeth removed GO TO DR. YING! You will not regret it. He is the BEST!!! I highly recommend him and would give more stars if I could.

I am NEVER a person to write a Unilocal review (even though I rely on Unilocal alllll the time in LA), but after my experience, I knew I had to share.
I was referred to Dr. Ying by my dentist to have my wisdom teeth extracted. From the moment I stepped into his office, I felt welcome and comfortable (and I HATE going to the dentist). Dr. Ying is so nice & most importantly, professional & knowledgeable. I was very nervous right before getting my teeth pulled, but he assured me I would be just fine. I had 3 teeth pulled, and it only took 15 minutes! His assistant even rubbed my arm during the procedure, to assure me everything was ok.
Dr. Ying also called my cell phone personally that night to ensure I was feeling alright.
I would recommend Dr. Ying to everyone looking for an oral surgeon!

Dr. Ying performed a tooth extraction and implant for me. It was perfect! And the staff are great as well. Six stars if I could.

My son was referred by his orthodontist in Manhattan Beach. Dr Ying is awesome! It’s been about 2 years since we were there, but I never was into leaving reviews, until my friend told me it’s important, and I should do a review to help the next person. I was extremely impressed with the high tech equipment at the office. All the staff were very professional. My son had an extra tooth blocking his upper right front tooth from coming down. So, Dr. Ying, took this 3d X-​Ray, and then removed the extra tooth. Dr Ying did mention that my son’s permanent tooth will not come down over night. Finally, the tooth has come down, and I thank Dr Ying for his expertise.

I avoided getting my wisdom teeth removed for way too long and I was finally forced to bite the bullet and make an appointment with my dentist when my lower wisdom teeth kept getting infected. It turned out I had a partial bony impaction so no matter what it would never come in properly so I had no choice but to have surgery.
Thankfully, my dentist referred me to Dr. Ying. He was amazing and everything went well!
Dr. Ying went through great lengths to ensure that all of my questions were answered and that I understood the surgery properly. Dr. Ying was extremely gentle and took great care with me. My mouth is actually pretty small and a lot of dentists find it hard to work in my mouth, so I have no idea how he could do it without causing me too much pain or discomfort. Before the surgery, his nurse went over the after care instructions with me which really helped afterward. They provided me with some supplies but the most helpful thing was the curved plastic syringe.
I healed so well that my face barely swelled and now a year later, I can’t feel any scarring on my gums like some people complain about.
If you’re suffering from wisdom teeth pain and need surgery, I suggest seeing Dr. Ying. He made a traumatic experience for me a lot more tolerable and I’m forever grateful for that.

I am currently under Dr Yings care. I ran into some issues last night (Sat) and called his office. Was amazed he left his personal cell on his machine and even more amazed when he called me just minutes after receiving my 10pm text. He provided me instructions to get me through the night and then met me at 8am Sunday morning in his office to treat me. I had explained my concern over leaving Monday morning on a business trip to NY and he did this to allow me to hit the road Monday without concern (not to mention pain). As I landed on Monday, I received a text from him making sure I was ok. I am honestly floored by his kindness and compassion. He is by far the most attentive Doctor I have ever encountered. This is a 5-​star rating all the way! Dr. Ying is the best.

I saw Dr. Ying after I was referred to him by my general dentist for a sore I had on my gums. His staff was very kind and courteous and made sure I was seen ASAP for what turned out to be a bony sequestrum. Dr. Ying not only took the time to discuss what I could expect in terms of healing, but explained what had caused my problem to develop. I felt very comfortable in his offices and felt like he and his staff were genuinely concerned with my physical comfort and making sure my pain was at a minimum.

Dr. Ying did a great job on my wisdom tooth extraction and the ensuing follow ups. He’s obviously invested in the best up to date tech around for these sorts of things. The office is very nice and inviting, the staff and Dr. Ying are all friendly and attentive. For something as painful as my wisdom tooth removal they did their best to make it a positive experience.

This review is for the experience I had as a wife taking care of a husband before and after wisdom teeth removal surgery. My husband is, like most men, horrible at taking care of his own health, and had let his wisdom teeth grow out (he’s in his early 30’s). His general dentist told him he should get them removed because of the crowding in this mouth and referred him to Dr. Ying. Not one to like any kind of doctor, hubby went to Dr. Ying with a little bit of hesitation, but was ready to get stuff done finally after procrastinating for years. Dr. Ying explained that having wisdom teeth grow in is very bad for your oral hygiene because it’s hard to keep those teeth clean as they are so far back in your mouth. There was the option of local or general anesthesia, and after my experience with getting my own wisdom teeth with general anesthesia, hubby decided to go that route.
The morning I took him to his appointment, I fully expected to have a few hours to waste, but I was told to be back in no more than 40 minutes. It actually only took about 30 minutes– I don’t know how but Dr. Ying did it, but he has some crazy skill with pulling teeth! Granted, he didn’t have to cut into the gums for these wisdom teeth but that’s record timing.
Once I got back to the office to pick up my husband, the nurse’s assistant explained all the things we should do to make sure the bleeding would stop and to encourage healing. Lots of dos and don’ts and she answered all our questions. Dr. Ying came and told us to call his cell phone in case of an emergency. After this I felt confident that we would be fine and that hubby would recover well. The assistant walked hubby out of the waiting room to the waiting car.
The result was, with the instructions we were given, hubby didn’t have any swelling after properly icing on the first day, and he could eat a lot of food by the 2^nd and 3^rd days. He did have some aching and pain which was to be expected, but the prescribed pain meds helped with that. We definitely owe the results to Dr. Ying’s skill and the thorough info he has his staff give to patients as followup care.

Well-​kempt office, professional and accommodating staff, and most importantly… state-​of-​the-​art care. I’m well past the age when they like to extract wisdom teeth, and only a week after having all four out, I am well on the way to recovered. If you need the insides of your mouth rearranged, Dr. Ying is the fellow to see about it.

Dr. Ying is very gentle and has a mild manner.
His staff are highly professional. When I called to make an appointment I told them I needed an early morning appointment. They did not have a time slot available, but within 15 minutes they called me back and gave me the time I had wanted.
The office is exceptionally clean. The wisdom tooth extraction took less than 10 minutes. I had local anesthesia and it was fine. Cynthia, Dr. Ying’s assistant, massaged my shoulders during the procedure and reminded me to breath. This was calming. Her post-​op instructions were also helpful. I had very little swelling and bruising and I was able to eat solid food the entire week! While I realize that no one wants to have a tooth pulled, if you must, Dr,. Ying is a doctor that you can rely on to do it without complications! Thank you!

I was referred to Dr Yings office by my local dentist for a tooth that needed to be surgically removed in the back of my mouth.
When my husband and I arrived at his office, it was beautiful very clean simple and organized. The staff is quite friendly and professional and were already prepared for me. The paperwork process was organized and brief which I appreciated as a first time patient.
When we were directed to the back room, my xrays were already up from my dentist and Dr Ying greeted us almost immediately. No waiting. He spoke to me in great detail and asked many questions about my condition. I did not feel rushed at all. He then examined my tooth. Then, he went into great detail with my husband and I regarding what I needed. He went over all of the options of anasthesa with me and was very informative. I felt that he was very thorough and engaged us with every detail. I really appreciated his professional demeanor. I also felt very relaxed, like I just knew I was in good hands.
The actual procedure itself went very quickly and painless. I was under some anasthesa (local and nitris oxide). He was very quick, and I felt no discomfort. He even followed up that evening and called me to see how I was doing.
Dr Ying is an excellent oral surgeon and I would highly recommend his practice to anyone in need of his services.
