History

Established in 2004.

The Vintage Shoppe opened its doors on September 11, 2004 on Culver Blvd. in Playa del Rey. With limited curb appeal, no parking, no tasting area, we set out to offer something different as a retail wine store. Even with all the handicaps, The Vintage Shoppe found an enthusiastic, wine loving customer base in Playa del Rey, El Segundo & Manhattan Beach, and survived during a tough economy.

On St. Patrick’s Day 2011, the new Vintage Shoppe opened its doors in Manhattan Village between Tin Roof Bistro and Susie Cakes. Now we have it all! Visit today to find out why we are the most exciting wine destination in the South Bay.

After seeing my negative review, I was contacted by John (the owner) with an apology and an invitation back. Made it back yesterday, met John and had a brief discussion on his approach to handling customers. It is true, some people would rather browse and not be bothered. So if you enter here and want hands on service, don’t be afraid to make it known, John will gladly answer any questions you have.
He has a great selection of wine, is informed about every single bottle in the shop and has a wide variety of pricing. Walked out with multiple new and exciting bottles to try. Will be back when we need to restock!

Great place for wine; nice range of wines in price and palate levels. The tastings are very helpful, this allows a try before you buy opportunity.
The owners are very knowledgable and helpful. My wife and I come here frequently after visiting Tin Roof to taste wine. There are several options in the South Bay but not with the tastings, the knowledge, and quality of the Vintage Shoppe. This is our favorite place to taste and buy wine.

Been frequenting the Vintage Shoppe for several months and always impressed by their recommendations and selection. The owners know their wine! This past weekend, I was responsible for selecting the wine for a bridal shower and the rose and sauvignon blanc they suggested both less than my $ 15 max were a hit! In addition, they host tastings Wednesday through Sunday night which can be a lot of fun. Highly recommend!

Stopped in to grab a gift for a friend since they are right next to Suzie Cakes and was glad that I did. The gentleman that helped me was «wine smart» and suggested a great selection. The price was reasonable and they also have wine tastings which is cool.

I have walked into this place 3 – 4 times while visiting Tin Roof Bistro or Susie’s cake.
All 3 – 4 times I was ignored by the staff and/​or made to feel unwelcome.
Not the best way to welcome customers. I’ll buy my vino elsewhere. Gracias.

This place sucks. I stick my head in whenever I stop in at SusieCakes and I’m always ignored, regardless of the fact that it’s usually empty. It’s super tiny and cramped, so it’s immediately off-​putting, and you’d think that the guys working there would be extra welcoming, and put you at ease. Not so. They just seem to have a superior attitude that I can’t figure out. People posting here seem to say nice things about the owners so I guess they’re nice to their friends, but not the general consumer? The product they have isn’t terribly unusual and seems over priced. Maybe they’re catering to a snooty South Bay customer that likes to pay too much? I don’t get it. Then you go next door to SusieCakes where you’re always extra warmly greeted… and you realize why this place is so unsatisfying to visit. I’ve given it like 4 – 5 shots and I’m done. Why someone would go here instead of Manhattan Fine Wines on Artesia is beyond me– now THAT is a great wine shop, though I wish they did tastings.

I love this place, really. I’ve been to a few tastings there now and always leave quite satisfied. Recently put in on two cases at their annual distributors tasting… Syrah and bordeaux delightfulness. Every week they offer about 5 wines for tasting that somehow follow a theme. It’s a great way to discover a new love and to hone in on what your palate really is. I’m on the mailing list and plan to return often. It’s a date!

Big Wino!!!
Since many weekends, I’m about as sober as Amanda Bynes, it makes sense that a shop (or shoppe) with a web address like
is a store for me. I’ll drink to that.
Just like wine, the Vintage Shoppe is full of complexity, character, potential, and possible faults.
The Vintage Shoppe is a cramped shop packed with wine and champagne that will offer any alcohol aficionado a chance for a quick tasting of some relatively rare wines. There’s only one table and it seats just a few people. To make up for the tight quarters, the knowledgeable oenophile is overflowing with information. Whether you are a true connoisseur or newb, they make wine tasting at Vintage Shoppe a learning experience.
Prices aren’t costco levels, but neither is the selection. The Vintage Shoppe offers a chance to try and buy several undiscovered wineries while expanding your understanding of God’s grape nectar. From the first visit, you’ll be on your way to joining the big wino crowd.

This shop s is a little gem. Lots of odd stuff and/​or older vintages at reasonable prices. They are helpful and willing to admit if they don’t know some esoteric detail about a wine. I asked about a wine that had a name on the bottle in addition to the standard info. I asked if it was possibly the vineyard name, and the congenial wine merchant admitted he didn’t know, but would find out. He did, it was and I bought the bottle. I’m looking forward to trying it soon. So many wine shops are filled with snarky wine nerds who aren’t interested in sharing their knowledge or learning anything new themselves. The Vintage shop was cool, had a great selection and I’m going back.

A great place to buy wine. The owners (Ben and John) are very easy going and totally know their stuff, and they’re really into the off-​beat wineries you probably haven’t heard of. Always a good education, as you get exposure to wines from all over the world.
They do daily tastings at a little table with about three seats, but there’s room to spread out. They can accommodate a larger group (and often do) because they can move to a rustic Spanish courtyard that is shared with office and Tin Roof restaurant. Indoors or out, it’s a warm, comfortable place with a carefully selected group of wines (and if you buy a bottle and take it over to Tin Roof, they’ll only charge a $ 10 corkage that goes to a local charity).

This shop is terrific. They’ve got lots of options at lots of different price points, recognizable/​popular wines as well as little-​known gems, pricier bottles and bargain bottles and the absolute best vibe (and did I mention all of those bottles to choose from?)! John & Ben are decidedly not SALES people; they’re just nice guys who enjoy wine and enjoy talking to other people who enjoy wines — or want to learn about them. They’re happy to offer suggestions, but never «up sell.»
If someone had a bad experience wine tasting here they should evaluate the bad experiences that they have at other wine stores. Or dinner parties. Or family parties… These guys are affable, knowledgeable, approachable, chatty, customer-​service oriented (in a totally non-​appalling manner) and just all-​around nice guys. We’ve gone to all of the other options for wine tastings in the beach cities (from Hermosa to Playa) and Vintage is, by far, the best experience we’ve had. But please don’t come here; we’d like to keep an open bar stool when we show up for a tasting — and crowds make me cranky. ;-)

We popped in for wine tasting. The guy pouring didn’t need a stand up routine or anything but geez, he was downright surly. He basically poured the wine and stood there, unsmiling. It felt like it was asking too much to ask what we were drinking let alone any additional info. Any attempt to break the ice by discussing the wine was impenetrable.
Like I said, we didn’t need a chatterbox but a modicum of customer service would’ve made all the difference. When he walked away I mentioned something to the boyfriend who said, «let’s just drink and leave» and we proceeded to down the shots and exit.

I haven’t been her for a while and I forgot how great the place is! Excellent place to pick up a great bottle of wine — for a gift, for dinner, for the beach, or just cause you are thirsty!!! whatever your occasion The Vintage Shoppe has what you need. On a budget, but want a good wine, Ben and John will hook you up! Just tell them and they will help you find what you are looking for. And join their frequent buyer club too… who doesn’t like credit towards wine!!!
You can also pick up some cheeses and meats as well.

I have to disagree that there is no customer service. I found it refreshing a more «low key» approach instead of a «hard sell». They know a lot about wines!

I’ve been popping in here since they were located in Playa Del Rey and there’s definitely a bit more ambiance at the Manhattan location. The Vintage Shoppe is perfect for picking up that big name points driven bottle to impress you’re Wine Spectator addicted friend (they regularly stock Kosta Brown and I’ve even seen some bottles of Screaming Eagle around) or pick up a hidden gem tucked in among the crates. John and Ben have incredible palates so don’t hesitate to ask then for a recommendation. They are picky about the wine they sell and have very high standards (trust me I’ve tried to get wine in here) and you certainly won’t find any Cupcake or factory farm wine on the shelf.

Rude! My wife and I walked in, there were four people in the store and not one of them greeted us. We looked at their selections and on our way out the one guy who was watching a game on TV spoke to us.

Thank goodness we went to Tin Roof Bistro for dinner, and exited through the back, otherwise we probably would have never noticed this place! Wine tasting, in Manhattan Beach? You’re on!
We went in on a Friday afternoon, and we were the only tasters there, which was nice and personal. The wines we tried were amazing, and none we had ever even heard of before.
Towards the end of the tasting, a new bottle was thrown in the mix, because the wine maker showed up! And damn, we all ended up buying a bottle.
They have great wines, and some random meats and cheeses for impromptu wine celebrations.
Go! It’s right in between Suzie Cakes, and Tin Roof.

I recently stumble onto this hidden gem in their new location in Manhattan Beach. They’re now located in the Manhattan Village Mall shopping area across the parking lot from Macy’s, next to Tin Roof Bistro.
After browsing for just a few minutes, I was able to find a bottle of wine that I’d been looking for. Although it was a little more pricey than what you could purchase online, with the savings of no shipping cost, I think it was still a great deal.
Ben, one of the owners, was there to answer all my questions and even told me about some upcoming events. Definitely making this my go-​to local wine shop!!!
