i have never written a review on Unilocal before but when i recently moved to the Manhattan Beach area I was looking for a new hairstylist and it was Unilocal that helped me find Marcy at Randt Salon. i am extremely picky about who does my hair having been with the same hairdresser in my previous location for years — so it was with trepidation that i first went to Marcy.
All I can say is that i have found my new stylist. she is a fantastic, talented stylist and colorist — i would strongly recommend her to anyone who cares to listen to me.
Blow-​dry, cut, color — the works — Marcy is the go to person in my opinion — i love her and cannot recommend her highly enough.

Paige is a 5 star hair stylist — my daughter (demanding) and my wife (very demanding) came back with perfect cuts and amazing, natural highlights. Every time they go to Paige, they return very happy. Me too.

Really needed a change and was on the search for a new stylist. Came across Randt on Unilocal because of its great reviews. Made my appointment with Paige. And was beyond happy with my results. I had very thin, damaged hair and was willing to cut it all off. Paige didn’t let me do that crazy thing and instead transformed my hair. She knew exactly what needed to get done to get my hair healthy again. Highly recommend her. I’m a full time working mommy and she’s great with accommodating evening or early morning hours.

I only trust Shannon. Hands down, she is the best! I rarely have to even tell her what I want. She just knows that I HATE red and any possible shade of red and she knows how to make me an ashy blonde but bright around my face. Love it!

I discovered Shannon (thanks to Unilocal) a couple years ago while I was vacationing in the South Bay. My go-​to girl back in Massachusetts was booked solid before I left town, and I had let my hair get to that «cut it now, not in two weeks» point. I should note that my hair is not easy to work with because it’s thick and coarse. Shannon updated my long-​bob style (flirty, fell perfectly, moved nicely, etc.) She really has a knack for that sophisticated, «step above» look.
The next time I was in LA, my mom was with me and I had her try Shannon, too. She liked her first haircut so much that she flew back to LA a few months later just to have Shannon do it again! Now she lives here and is happy that she is only a one hour drive from Randt instead of a six-​hour flight! And I am mindful to schedule visits to see my mom when I’m due for a haircut ;)

Was on the look out for a new salon and stylist and made an appt. with Shannon after reading all the great reviews on Unilocal!
She definitely lived up to all my expectations. The salon is right next to Rice (the sushi restaurant), and is very cute and quaint!
I have been to many salons where the stylists talk about themselves frequently and come off as somewhat superficial, but Shannon is a breath of fresh air!
She is so genuine and friendly. By the end, I felt like I was just hanging out with one of my close friends.
I went in for a haircut and full highlights, and I am so happy with the result. I am definitely going to come back to see Shannon for my next appointment!

Let me say… Marcy has SAVED my hair. My hair was awful… It would break off when I would blow dry it and I couldn’t get it to grow out for the life of me. My hair is dark… almost black naturally and I HATE it. I personally just gave up on the idea of having beautiful hair.
I moved to the Southbay about a year and a half ago and was recommended to call Marcy through a neighbor. First off I want to say Marcy is adorable, you can tell she has that artistic personality and has the eye for style. Marcy took her time and gave me her recommendations on how to help my hair grow out. Long story short… a year later my hair is a very beautiful and natural shade of blonde and its growing long! You would never know when meeting me that my hair isn’t naturally blonde.
Marcy is detail oriented and has the right recommendations for healthy, beautiful, and stylish hair.
I highly recommend Marcy, she is one of my favorite people I’ve met since I moved to LA.
When reading Unilocal reviews, remember that people love to complain. Trust every good review you read because its true… she is very gifted and I feel lucky to have scored with one kick ass hair dresser!

Let me start by saying that I have crazy curly hair with a mind of its own. I have been to many different salons in my life and have learned that you need to find someone who truly knows how to care for curly hair if you want a hairstyle you’re happy with. When I first moved to the South Bay three years ago, I did find a hairstylist who knew how to cut curly hair but unfortunately was a horrible colorist. I had made the mistake of dying my hair black and was attempting to get back to a more natural color. My ex-​stylist somehow managed to dye my roots DARKER than the rest of my hair. It was then that I knew I needed to find someone who not only knew how to cut curly hair but someone who could color hair beautifully as well. I read the many Unilocal reviews and decided to trust Shannon two and a half years ago.
I am so glad I did! Shannon is absolutely amazing in every way possible. She listens to what your vision is and makes it come to life. With Shannon’s help I was able to go from black to blonde to brunette and now more of a honey blonde and I am so happy. She knows what will look good on you and she makes it happen. She also has an incredibly happy spirit and you can’t help but want to be her friend. She is Super Woman when it comes to hair. If you are in need of a knowledgable, friendly hairstylist look no further. Shannon is your gal. Trust me. :)

Nice salon would recommend to others

Great guy haircut. I always get compliments on my hair after a leave. I dont know about the coloring because I dont need it. But I do know it’s great to talk with the hotties that work there.

Came to Shannon for the first time after an exhausting search for a stylist that understood blonde color and could not be happier with the results! Not only was she knowledgable, but she was understanding and engaging, and completely efficient. The entire appt took half the time as previous appts where I felt I was in a chair all day.
We are gradually building back my blonde color over the course of 2 – 3 appts. I’m so thrilled I found her. I have been everywhere from expensive Beverly Hills «celeb» salons to trendy Venice salons and trust me, Shannon is the best!

I fly from Chicago to LA to get my hair done here! Okay, that’s not the only reason, but still. Lol. After moving 2,300 miles away, Marcy Villa is still the best stylist I know. If you want fabulous looking hair, be sure to go to Randt whether you live in LA or are just visiting. Seriously, my plane landed at 5:00 and I’ll be in Marcy’s chair by 6:00. Trust no one else with your hair! BEST STYLIST EVER!!!

Not only is Shannon the best colorist in the South Bay bar none, she’s also a superb stylist and an all around stand up gal. She’s adorable, funny, smart and at the top of her game. The fact that she’s in MB rather than some fancy pants Beverly Hills salon is a small miracle for this devotee — one that I’m grateful for! (Not that I wouldn’t schlep to the west side for her. I would. Hell, I’d schlep to the valley! Lol)
Randt and Shan are peerless. Period.

I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Shannon for over a year and feel so lucky to have found her! She is genuinely friendly and puts you at ease from the moment you enter the salon. She is so great with color, I just tell her to do whatever she thinks would be best and it always looks great! I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Shannon is so amazing! She does the best color, color fix, highlights and haircut I’ve ever had in my life (all of the services I’ve used). She makes me feel comfortable and listens to everything I want. After my first haircut, 4 months later it still felt as if she had just cut it! On my second visit I came in with hair I messed up using box dyes and not only did she fix my hair but she was able to give me the exact hairstyle I had envisioned! She has also helped me to create a hairstyle when I wasn’t sure what I wanted. I just can’t rave on enough! Can I give her 10 Stars? :)

If I could give this place 6 stars. I would… I recently moved to Manhattan Beach around 2 years ago from Texas and couldn’t find anyone that cut my hair anywhere near as good as my stylist back home… For two years I would go back to Texas and just get my hair cut there after a couple of scary haircuts out here… But nevertheless, Unilocalers helped me out! Just went to Shannon today and came out feeling amazing. Not only does my hair cut look GREAT but it’s exactly what I wanted. Shannon knew exactly what to do with my hair without me really even saying anything. Plus huge bonus, she’s a really cool person… Bringing my husband with my next time to get his hair cut too! So happy that I’ve FINALLY found a great small salon with amazing staff!

I’m blonde and so many people think it’s so easy to color blonde hair. «Just throw bleach foils in». NO! It’s not just about bleach, it’s about dimension and contrast people!!!
Marcy colors my hair perfectly to flatter my skin tone and appease my crazy OCD :)
I work in the beauty industry and my hair is looked at daily by colleagues, students and clients, so not only does Marcy get my approval but everyone else’s I’m around!

I moved to Los Angeles last year but hadn’t been able to get over my Minneapolis stylist. Once, in desperation, I walked into a place near Venice Beach that looked like a great place — but my hair was cut by a woman who looked like she had been kicked off the couch in the back room only to make a couple of snips and charge me 90 $. I trusted my art school friend to touch up my roots which wasn’t a great idea either. I found Marcy on Unilocal last November.
Communication — My request for an appointment was immediately responded to with a phone call. After that we conversed through text messages (my preference).
Flexibility — A couple of days before my cut/​color was scheduled I had to take my car in for maintenance and wasn’t sure I could afford both a cut and color so I contacted Marcy and she was totally OK with it. When I rescheduled for the color a month later she offered me a variety of times that worked around my crazy entertainment industry schedule.
Products — Randt doesn’t have shelves full of product, so there wasn’t any pressure to buy anything which is something new to me. Even my favorite salon back home pushed product with every visit. Marcy suggested some really inexpensive treatments, a brush, and something to keep the red in my hair alive that I could go pick up if I wanted. I love that she recommends products that are affordable in the better interest of my hair. When I finally when to get my hair colored the dye that Randt uses set in really, REALLY quick and as i’m writing this close to four weeks later — the color is still as good as it was after a few washes.
Technique — Marcy just knows what she is doing and understands what I want. My haircut was exactly what I was looking for despite my not know what i was looking for. «not a lot of change, but some change. No bangs, but the illusion of bangs. layers, but i don’t know how many layers or how long. no, i don’t really know where I part my hair» when I came back for the dye I was greeted with «i’ve been thinking a lot about your color and I have the perfect one mixed up» which are exactly the words I have been waiting to hear my whole life. I also want to applaud again how speedy she is while still giving my hair the most attention it has ever received. I love getting my hair done and feeling pampered, but I am also really frickin’ busy, so I get the best of both worlds.
Personality — Of course she’s fantastic. She’s smart and great to talk to. Even if her banter was awful, I would probably return based on her skills … but thankfully I don’t have to do that.
Compliments — I get them all of the time.
Price — I’m will to shell out more money than most making my salary for a haircut because my hair is it’s own little Crazytown. But I don’t have to anymore! When I originally cancelled the color with my first appointment with Marcy, it was because I was imagining pretty high numbers, but in reality it would’ve been half of what I was expecting.
Location — I live about ten minutes away from Manhattan Beach but never make it down there since most of my days are spent commuting to/​from Burbank so originally I found a salon down there so I could have the excuse of walking on the beach and walking through the clothing stores. I love the area, and parking isn’t awful if you’re willing to park on the other side of Ardmore (about .4 miles from the salon) otherwise you’ll probably have to find a meter.
