Specialties

{pages} is an independent general bookstore. We carry fiction, non-​fiction, children’s books, cookbooks, coffee table books and travel books. We are located a block from The Strand and the Pacific Ocean. We specialize in customer service and offer customary gift wrap. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, in most cases we can special order and have the book in the store within a day or two.

History

Established in 2010.

We’ve been open for five years. Three bibliophile moms envisioned an independent bookstore in their hometown of Manhattan Beach, and opened one. Our store is a book lover’s dream. Warm, inviting, and filled with great books for kids and adults. {pages} provides a knowledgeable staff, curated book selection, amazing author events, children’s story time and so much more.

Manager

Scott came to us from Magpie (Manhattan Beach) and The Comedy & Magic Club (Hermosa Beach) in 2010 when we opened. He is the one who knows everything about the store at any given time. He works hard, often bikes to work, has a more quirky personal taste for books, but understands and knows about more books than anyone else you know, besides Linda, Margot, Patty & Sunni. Scott is behind or involved in most everything we do at {pages}.

Live this little book store. It is so much easier to pick a book when it is a carefully stocked book store. Great selection, just no ac and made shopping uncomfortably hot and humid. I couldn’t stay in too long. But I love the location, next time I’m in town I will be back.

Great bookstore along the main shopping strip of Manhattan Beach.
I went in to browse for myself, but ended up speaking with the two staff members and asked them for recommendations. After a hard week, I wanted something light, easy and super fun to read over the weekend. They gave me a handful of recommendations and I walked away with two books. So far, spot on!
I give this place five stars for the customer service alone. In addition, the store is beautiful and has a great selection to choose from. You are bound to find something you will like!

I have been to this store quite a few times to buy books for myself and others. They have a good selection of fiction, local and children’s books, the store is quite nice and the location next to the beach is beautiful. I also really enjoy shopping at an independent bookstore. Unfortunately I’ve been looking forward to a particular book event there this evening and despite inquiring in-​person at the store weeks ago, checking online multiple times the previous few days and calling to see how busy it would be, they didn’t inform me that a RSVP was required until I got there this evening. I rearranged my husband’s work schedule so he could be home with our daughter and I could go to this event that I had so been looking forward to but I was turned away. It’s unfortunate. I probably won’t be returning to the store.

Right off the pier this is such a cute little local bookstore! The guy that was working was knowledgeable about what I was asking for. I also love that it was a very well-​organized bookstore (unlike other locally-​owned bookstores I’ve been to). Definitely go here and support your local bookstore, maybe find a beach-​read!

Cute little bookstore in Manhattan beach. They don’t have a ton of books, but there is a decent selection. The staff all seems friendly /​helpful and they have cute cards and knick knacks.

Another local store that I hope to keep in business. They really cater to the people. There are SO many events from book signings to children’s programs, to developing writers. They support the local author as well as so many others.
I went in recently to search for some new books for my 4th grader who is an avid reader. I received immediate personal service and great ideas for selections for her. You can’t get this kind of service at the big box stores or online.
I went into the store 45 minutes before kid pickup time and I came away with exactly what I needed plus the great feeling that I supported my local store.

This is such a cute bookstore. It’s has an eclectic selection, a pretty good selection, and they are all nicely arranged with bookmarks in many that are recommendations by various staff. It’s a fun place to browse to kill time. They also have cute selection of cards and other knickknacks as well.

I love walking to the Manhattan Pier and swinging into
Pages for a new read. I love that the staff is extremely helpful and they put ‘staff picks’ on the books, which I think is neat. If you join the mailing list, you can get advanced notice in book releases and authors coming into the store. Such a cute, intimate place. Love.

Pages is a cute little bookstore that I happened to stumble upon while walking around Manhattan Beach. The shop is small, but well organized, with a decent selection of titles. There are placards attached to certain books, identifying them as staff favorites and providing a small summary. They also frequently hold events here like board game nights on Fridays or authors visiting the shop. Overall, it looked like a cool place, and I’ll definitely stop in again when I’m in the area!

Pages Bookstore is indeed accessible to wheelchair users, via a separate entrance/​exit that is not linked to the front «step». Mark my words: I will, as an author, give readings some day at this amazing indie bookstore.

Thanks for the memorable Christmas shopping, Pages, and thanks for all the fish and the drive back where I came from, once. Where I belong? Maybe not now, maybe not even in 2012, but definitely from 1995 to 1999, if not longer.
It’s really good for children, which all good bookstores are.

Little cozy bookstore with selection of books that are just right, not too overwhelming but enough to keep you there for hours.
Parking is metered parking and this shop is surrounded by tons of boutique shops. Def worth to visit if you have time to kill.

My favorite thing about Pages: The author events! There’s such a variety, from Real Housewives to bloggers to LOCAL AUTHORS! Imagine that — a small, local, business supporting other locals. The magic of it all.
My second favorite thing: Everyone is soooooo nice. And helpful. Not like at B&N, where I distinctly remember having to spell Roosevelt for someone getting me a book for a 6th grade book report in 1996.
I normally buy my books on Amazon, but browsing on Amazon is no fun at all. So, if I want to browse (and feel the sunshine on my face), I grab a hot chocolate from Starbucks on MBB, and walk on over to Pages. And then, I b r o w s e. It’s a delightful, slow, relaxing thing. Try it.

This store is a neighborhood gem! It never disappoints. They have beautiful books that make incredible gifts. They have a broad selection of material to suit everyone’s taste in reading. The staff is kind, approachable and well read. They always have great, thoughtful suggestions for our book club and suggest books that we always have a lot of great discussion topics from. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing. The authors that visit are great too!

Pages is my favorite bookstore! I make a point of buying from independently owned businesses rather than big corporations.
Pages always has something new to choose from and Peggy, the owner, is so kind and knowledgeable.
I really enjoy going to their author events with my family and it’s a great place to get a gift.

I’m mostly rating this place for the ambiance as I haven’t bought anything here yet… Despite where it’s located, the shop has a friendly air about it and a surprisingly wide array of genres. This small independent book store is very put-​together and clean. There are chairs to sit in and a small kid’s section in the back for the tots. I’m not sure it’s a place I’d go to hang out in all the time (might be a wee bit too small for that), but I do love the general look and feel of it.
They seem to do a very good job stocking up with the latest hit reads, especially anything that’s been a film lately. The staff are friendly and helpful and so far have been really knowledgeable, unlike most staff at the huge bookstores.
Pages is located in a really nice area to walk around in and the parking isn’t too tough to find as long as there isn’t a surf comp, street festival or AVP tournament going on by the pier. It’s tough for shops like these to compete with Amazon, but there’s a charm that independent book stores have that online merchants will never attain.

I never really go to Manhattan Beach, but I went here for a book signing by a local author, Deborah Harkness (A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night. You guys should really check it out) and I have to admit, for someone who is used to Borders and Barnes and Noble, I really love the are this store was located in and the atmosphere it gave off. It’s located on this cute little street with a bunch of stores that gives you an old town vibe. The front of the store has new releases and fiction/​nonfiction, while the back holds the children’s section. It’s very clean and well-​kept. Although the books are full priced, it supports small business and independent book store owners, and if I lived in the area, I would probably be here all the time.

They’ve been open just 2 weeks.
Friendly proprietors, cozy children’s section with kid-​friendly seating, overall very attractive space near MB Pier.
The biz card I picked up doubles as a bookmark, just dandy.
