Dave’s Olde Book Shop

One of the best used bookstores in Los Angeles, trust me I’ve been to most of them. Very organized and aisles are clear, no piles of books in your way while your peruse. A fantastic selection of recent releases and older Fiction, Science Fiction/​Fantasy, Mystery and a MASSIVE Thriller section. Mostly paperbacks of newish and reading quality and also quite a substantial selection of hardcovers for collectors. An excellent selection of Franklin Library collectible leather bound books up front with some really interesting looking old vintage tomes.

I’ll never go kindle or nook! I love the feeling of roaming through bookshelves to find treasures and journeys to embark upon. The spines or covers draw me in and then holding the book in my hand while reading the description hooks me.
This last time we went in my daughter wanted to sell some of her books and then bought #1, 2, and 4 of the Nancy Drew series — without knowing if she’d even like #1. We will go back for #3 and I’m sure we’ll find it eventually.
On a whim I mentioned a book I’d been carrying around in my wishlist and they had the exact Joan Didion book I’d hoped for.
Worth a visit and a return trip!

Came here Sunday for the first time after doing a tour of the used book stores in our area. Dave’s Olde Book Shoppe was far and away the best. I really appreciated seeing the pricing standard he had posted, which is nicer than arbitrarily assigned prices. I’d actually bought a book at Book Again earlier that morning and found it at Dave’s for $ 3 cheaper. The store has a wonderfully huge and thorough fantasy and sci fi section. Also, they do not have a debit card minimum. I just wish it was larger so there could be some seating, but the shop is lovely all on its own. They even have RPG handbooks. I’ll definitely be back!

The cleanest smelling used book shop ever! A warm welcome, and thousands of expertly curated titles. I even got a few stories, and a joke out of the proprietor. Wasn’t hard. Thanks!

This was the biggest of the 3 used book places I went to to try to resell my books.
The guy working was SUPER friendly, and happily stopped what he was doing to look through each book I had. I came here last, so what I brought in had already been picked through. He gave me $ 5 in store credit for 3 books, which I thought was a fair deal for me. He gave me the credit on a very easy to loose piece of paper, so I just found something in the store to buy and came out with something I actually wanted instead of keeping track of the credit slip.
They also have a huge bin to dump off books to recycle in their parking lot, so if you don’t want to come in to have them look over what you have there’s a place where they accept books at any hour. They do get a lot of stock that way too so it may be harder to sell here. But if they don’t take what you have, you can always put it in their recycle bin and be done with it in one trip.
Props to the guy working for being cool. I’m glad someone is out there caring about keeping books out of landfills.

Books are WAY overpriced. Selection is whatever, odds are you won’t find what you’re looking for in stock. Children’s books selection looks terrible, better quality stuff at goodwill. Found some cool sci-​fi books, some Terry Pratchett a while. Owner is onsite, he can be a bit rude sometimes.

Had a wonderful time browsing and perusing through this little bookstore. I went in on a week day with a friend and we spent at least an hour inside. Everything was incredibly well-​organized and all the prices were easy to read and labeled. Sections were very clear and I had no difficulty finding three or four books to add to my «must-​read» list. Everything was super cheap compared to Barnes N Noble! Why get a brand new book if a used one is more than half off? I love giving business to small book shops as opposed to huge corporations.
The man who was watching over the store when my friend and I visited was really accommodating and sincere. He was funny, too! He laughed at my dumb jokes and started some great conversation with us. I can’t wait to visit this place again when I get my next paycheck and have read all my other books.

I love used book stores and this place is a special find! Has all types of books ranging from 50 years ago to this year. Prices are very reasonable, even by used books standards

I love to read but I’m super picky. Usually I browse book stores but end up not buying anything. I checked out Dave’s Olde Book Shop for the first time and I was surprised not only by the selection but also by the prices. Many of the books were priced for far less than half of the original cover price, whereas most other LA book stores seem to overcharge for used books.
When I walked in, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, but I found exactly what I needed. I only bought 2 books, but that’s 2 more than what I usually walk out with.
Also, the owner Dave was super friendly and very helpful. I’ll definitely go back again, even if it’s just to get a dose of Dave’s good energy.

I’ve enjoyed every visit I’ve made to Dave’s Olde Book Shop. I enjoy history, and each time I’m interested in a particular topic or time period, he has given me amazing and interesting recommendations that I wouldn’t have considered. One of my favorite places to go on a weekend afternoon.

Everyone in our family loves Daves shop. Its our place to buy and recycle books. He is such a contribution to our community. Not many cities have a place like Daves.
If you haven’t discovered our very very best used book shop then you are in for a treat.
His love of books and knowledge is just what every reader dreams of finding.

A very nice small used bookstore. They focus on Adult & Teen books. I’m a fan of science fiction /​fantasy and I’m very impressed with the selection. Mostly paperback but a few hardbacks. It’s going to be a regular pop in store for me.

Great selection. They are not super generous on book-​buying at $ 1/​book for some as-​new soft copies but I am okay with it.

When you walk in the door, there are tons of shelved books, in good keeping, and alphabetically ordered.
I like this shop a lot.

I was hoping for two things when I went here. A decent selection of the classics and decent service. I got both! Dave is great assuming that’s who I spoke with. He knows his books and is friendly to everyone. The store is physically small but I was there for two hours! So much to look at. Plus the prices are great. This store is well worth a visit because they don’t sell electronic crap from China, they don’t have employees sitting there on their phone chewing bubble gum bored. They aren’t pushy, they aren’t expensive like a chain store. This store is what all stores used to be like back in the day before my time but still I can imagine what it was like. This place is where you can get away from technology, fast paced society, relax and actually do something that many people don’t do anymore… read.

Came here looking for a book with a (hard to find) vintage look. Anyway the staff were extremely helpful and very accommodating. even holding a book while I checked out their competitors stores for other options… Nice, right?
Needless to say I ended up coming back since their selection AND their customer service far exceeded their competitors.

A nice bookstore. Everything here is very well organized. The prices are low for the used books here.
Each book is organized into their own sections (Mystery, Fiction, Self Help, Cookbooks, Romance, etc…) down to the authors so it’s super easy to find something you might be looking for.
The employee who worked here was pretty helpful when my friend wanted to find a specific book. although they didn’t have it.
The bookstore is a good enough size to hold a ton of books. It looks smaller from the outside but it’s not! Oh and they even have super old books here. Not too many new ones but a lot of good popular ones from a few years back.

Dig around, you will fill your quarry. This used shop is always full of treasures. If you are looking for something specific Dave might not have exactly what you are looking for. It’s no Powell’s in footprint. But if you like browsing, you’re sure to hit pay dirt.

Dave’s is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you’re gonna come by, but it’s all a treat for the brain or Chicken Soup for the Soul.
It’s fun to look around in a place where you know the staff has purged a bunch of rubbish. With so many dollar book stores popping up, it’s good to know I can rely on a used bookstore with quality picks.
The staff is really helpful. Last time I went, I got a ton of kids books for a friend’s classroom and the young guy working there helped me load them to my car. It felt like the 50’s. Hahaha. Anyhoo … lovely place! PS: I friended them on Facebook and get all kinds of neat updates including new gems they’ve shelved.
