E&S is an 11,000 square foot art and custom framing gallery that specializes in African American art. E&S features unique, afrocentric home accessory items you just won’t find anywhere else. The three-​floor showroom is filled with original, limited and open edition works of art by nationally renowned artist including Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Twin, Ed Hamilton, Paul Goodnight, Kevin A. History

Established in 1989.

E&S Gallery was founded by Walter B. Shannon, Jr in 1989, along with partners Sam & Hazel Eubanks, II. Today, the gallery is managed by Shannon, his wife Cathy, along a team of highly skilled, professional framers.

E&S Gallery is nationally recognized for exceptional custom framing and fine art, and is the featured gallery for the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage, Black Enterprise Golf & Tennis Challenge, The Grand Gala, and the Harlem Fine Art show to name a few.

The gallery has served as the venue for many events for local organization such as 100 Black Men of Louisville, Leadership Louisville Foundation, and the Louisville Chapter of the National Black MBA. The E&S Gallery Annual Derby Art Gala has brought prominent artist to Louisville such as Elizabeth CAtlett, Twin, Charles Bibbs, and many others.

Meet the Manager

Walter and Cathy S.

Manager

Walter and Cathy Shannon are the husband and wife team of E&S Gallery. Their passion for art is present in every aspect of the gallery, and they enjoy taking fine art across the country to various art shows and exhibits.

A native of Memphis, TN, Walter studied design at Cal State University in Southern California, and eventually became head buyer for one of the state’s largest furniture store chains before moving to Louisville. Walter produced one of the first African American art catlogue in the early 1980’s. Walter is an astute businessman and highly respected in the African American art industry, with a keen eye for art and design.

Louisville native Cathy Shannon graduated from the University of Louisville with a BA in Advertising and Marketing in 1984. After 14 years in corporate America working in advertising and public relations, Cathy joined Walter in the art business to oversee the local and national marketing of the gallery. She’s credited with giving E&S national exposure.
