History

Established in 1994.

We are a small family-​owned furniture company based in Los Angeles, CA and, since our beginnings in 1994, we have built a reputation as one of the main sources for vintage Asian furniture, contemporary custom furniture, and accessories in the West Coast.

From the start, our motto has always been a simple one: Quality, Practicality, Beauty and Affordability.

Our quest is to offer great furniture at the best possible prices. We achieve this by going directly to the source, central China’s Shanxi region and neighboring Tibet. We hand pick every single item — from a single vase, to a console, cabinet, sideboard, couch or bed. We then consolidate furniture shipments to obtain better pricing. The volume discounts we are able to negotiate are then passed along to our customers.

In addition to the vintage and reclaimed wood pieces, we offer Custom Furniture Services as well. 20 years later, our goal remains the same: to bring these unique treasures, with all their beauty and history, to you.

Meet the Business Owner

Peter M.

Business Owner

Peter, who owns Terra Nova, was born in Africa to European parents, raised in Argentina and grew up traveling the world. His Italian father was passionate about furniture and built his own pieces as a hobby. Peter, working alongside him, learned very early how to appreciate and love beautifully built, hand carved, solid wood furniture. His desire was to be able to mix his love of furniture and traveling, and make a living out of his passion.

When he moved to Los Angeles, he realized it was hard to find the type of home furniture he loved, so he decided to bring those worldly treasures to the city. Originally, he imported old world furniture from Europe. In the last 10 years, the focus has been on Asian pieces, as Peter completely fell in love with the style after visiting Indonesia.

The first store was opened in Beverly Hills in April of 1994. Alejandra joined him in operating the business in 2005. 20 years later, Peter’s passion still shows in the pieces he sources and create.
