Rosa Mexicano

I was grabbing a quick bite a couple nights ago. I had an incredible pomegranate martini at the suggestion of my server Frankie Shammas. The epic drinks were followed up by easily the best table side guacamole I ever had yet again at the suggestion of Frankie. I am a serious fan of Mexican food but I am also a huge snob! The food was on point and the atmosphere was perfect. Our server was both charismatic and knowledgeable, which is rare. I will defiantly come back for seconds.

What a gem! Table side guac is amazing, along with the street style corn on the cob. The pomegranate margaritas are the BEST!!! Service is always great, and great quite spot without all the crowds of LA live!!! This is a must stop! Only reason I didn’t give it 5-​stars is its a bit pricey and parking is a nightmare.

I was not expecting much given the mediocre reviews on Unilocal and must say I was presently surprised.
Location– right next to our hotel and close to Staples center. Super convenient. The restaurant is very charming. Décor is great and inviting. Walls are full of artwork and the colors are bright.
Service– our waiter was awesome. He was soooo attentive. Constantly checking in on us, refilling our waters, taking pictures, and even asking the chef questions from our behalf about the food
Food– it is definitely pricey esp for Mexican food, but portions are big. We started off with the guacamole. Everyone seems to be ordering this. They come and make it right at your table. I thought the taste was only ok. I couldnt taste any seasoning or limes. For $ 14 it was pretty steep. I ordered the beef tacos and they were delicious. It came with street style corn (delicious) and rice and beans. We were all really full and happy.
Overall, I think it is a great place if you are in the area.

I went back to this restaurant and it was definitely a different experience from the first time I was here. The waiter and workers were all very attentive to us which made it well worth the trip. We ordered guacamole and hands down it was one of the best quac I’ve ever had, and the best part about it was that they didn’t forget it this time! I ordered the tampiquena de carne asada and it was delish! The steak was cooked medium rare, just the way I like it. My boyfriend ordered the pollo adobado and the chicken was super moist and juicy, both dish came with rice and beans to share but you can get more if you run out. All in all, we had a good time. Also another tip, they validate your parking for the first two hours if you park at the LA Live parking structures.

Came for lunch while visiting a friend in LA. Nice trendy atmosphere (décor, music playing in background and beautiful tranquil water wall) service was excellent our waiter David was very efficient. Food was great and brought to us quickly. …drinks were also great i ordered the recommended frozen pomegranate margarita nice and strong

Had a really good experience at this restaurant. The guacamole was excellent as were the drinks. I had a mango chile margarita which was perfect. I had the Tampiquena de Carne Asada which was delicious. The meat was juicy and the enchilada was tasty. The tres leches dessert was also yummy. We were so full but had to eat it was so good. I would definitely go again and recommend!

Girls night out was a great success. We called ahead to get reservations and they mentioned that it’s first come first serve but the hostess was kind enough to make it anyway. We took lyft, got dropped off right in front then got seated right away. We met our nice waiter and he recommended the drinks we ordered. He was kind enough to add more alcohol on mine. Queso fundido is a must try here. I have tried several at different locations but I honestly think theirs was really good. I would definitely put this one on my dinner date list.

«Eh». That about sums it up. Came to get my pre-​club grub on. Guacamole is made table side and was good. For $ 14, I thought you would get a little more though. Got fluatas and enchilada trio. First, fautas were more like taquitos, very thin. You get three for $ 9. Enchiladas were interesting. Three different styles on the plate. #1 tasted like a bbq beef brisket sandwich. Interesting. #2 tasted like chicken lime. Was my fav of the three. #3 was the cheese enchilada and it tasted like spaghetti_o’s.
Nothing was «bad», but nothing was great. Served with beans and rice. Beans seemed like whipped black beans, but I liked them. Rice was weird. Tasted cloves in rice? Would I return? Yes but I’d try something new.

Endless guac is SOOO good.
They take the refills too seriously. Too stingy. We had a few spoon fulls left and asked for a refill that was more spicy. The waitress asked us to finish…
Waitress was nice, but the service was slow. Only reason I’m giving 4 stars.
Next time we went, the waitress was all over a client at the bar. We would look over for help and she’d be looking at his phone, standing basically in his lap, a little uncomfortable.
Happy hour prices are great, tacos are bomb.

Came here after the Lakers game on a Sunday night. My boyfriend and I didn’t want to wait at Yard House so we decided to try this place out. It was pretty empty so we got seated right away. The host brought us our water and there was 2 waiters that came up to our table. So we were not sure who was our waiter.
Good Mexican food options here, food is decent, service is pretty good, and the fresh side guac here is pretty mouthwatering! My boyfriend enjoyed his Carne plate, not only it was big portion but very flavorful and tender. I gave 3 stars cause of the no wait, fresh Guacamole, and the service was good since it was slow.

Service here is very very sloooooow…
With not much of an excuse because it wasn’t full. We waited for 25 minutes to get our drinks and place our food order. When we asked the waitress (who didn’t even introduce herself) said she was «waiting on my bartender». They don’t give you kids menus or anything for kids like crayons for coloring.
The utensils were filthy as if their dishwasher didn’t properly «clean».
The good:

When the food finally came it was really good. It’s unfortunate they have such poor service and unsanitary eating utensils, not a good first impression.
The 1 star is for the manager who at least addressed some of the above issues, the 2^nd star is for the food.

1 star is for the service, 2^nd star is for the drinks. Other than that… Meh. We had the table side guacamole (asked for it to be spicy) for $ 15 we expected it to be at least a tad bit better then other guacamole appetizers. It wasn’t, we asked for limes and cholula to add ourselves to give it a kick/​flavor.
Food– ordered the tres enchiladas, disappointing. You can’t go wrong with enchiladas at a Mexican restaurant, but these were dry.
The place looks cool, but sometimes it’s not all about the décor and ambiance… At least personally for me, I prefer something good on the table, not on the wall.
Guess that’s what to be expected from LA LIVE.

My coworkers and I had lunch here recently while in town for a conference. Right away we got chips and salsa and then table side guacamole. The chips, salsa and guacamole were very tasty. Addictive!
Our waiter was a little slow taking our order but the restaurant was busy. Other than that we got good service. I had the cobb salad. Lots of nice toppings on top, good grilled chicken, very big portion. I really liked the avocado dill dressing. My coworkers had a variety of other stuff — one had the cobb salad too, one had the carne asada, and one had tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
If you are looking for casual Cal-​Mex food, this a great place to try. Lots of options, good food, good drinks. And the guacamole is delicious.

Once again we are here for a concert, so we stopped in to our fav Mexican joint at LA live.
This time we started with the happy hour guac and ended with the carne asada, and both were very tasty! Throw in a Pacifico (or two) and margaritas and it is a Pre Bieber Fiesta!!!
Ambiance is Casa de fundito, and prices are high… but this is LA adjacent to Staples Center.
Still on the list!

Came here to meet up with friends before the I love 90’s concert on a Saturday. There were 7 of us and this place had reservations available. It’s in a great location in LA Live.
They have a cart that comes around to your table and they make you fresh guacamole. You have to order it to get it, and it’s about $ 14. I don’t even think we finished it all.
Their margaritas come in small glasses but come with a kick. They are super strong. We all had the pomegranate margaritas which was their most popular. They also had $ 5 vodka shots that we took at the end of dinner.
I ordered the Tampequena de Carne Asada which got you more for your buck. It was $ 27 but you got steak, a cheese enchilada and veggies. They do family style beans and rice and tortillas. The cheese enchilada was more like a cold quesadilla but I enjoyed the meat.
I parked across the street in a lot for $ 20 so it was easy to get to. This place is definitely a pricey spot for Mexican food but it’s the location and ambiance you’re paying for really.

We went here for my boyfriend’s 24^th birthday dinner last night based off of some friend’s recommendation. We had a large party of about 15 people.
The food was good. The portions are nothing crazy big, but they are okay. It’s definitely a very Mexican fusion restaurant situated in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
One review below states to ask for Frankie as your server. We didn’t ask for Frankie, but we were definitely lucky enough to get Frankie! He was very informative & so nice! So yes ASK FOR FRANKIE! He will definitely take care of you.
The pomegranate margaritas are DELICIOUS. They are exactly as good as everyone raves about & they have double the liquor for the same price. They are rather small, but so good.
The GUACAMOLE PREPARED at the TABLE is so good. I would suggest getting double since it is small and they only use one avocado per order. SO SO SO GOOD.
I order the enchiladas with the three different choices to choose from ($ 23). Pretty good. Nothing spectacular. My boyfriend had the skirt steak & shrimp which was good, but not anything huge for $ 30.
I’m dinging off a star because of the price and size of food. Otherwise it is good & fun. Would probably return maybe for a happy hour or a Taco Tuesday if they have anything of the sort.

An unserem vorletzten Tag in L.A. waren wir im Rosa Mexicano.
Einmal drin ist man nicht mehr in L.A. sondern direkt in Mexiko. Alles ist authentisch … von der Musik bis zu den Möbeln und Kellnern.
Zusammen mit einem Koch des Restaurants haben wir Guacamole hergestellt. Das war wirklich cool.
Die Mörser, in denen die Guacamole im Restaurant zubereitet wird, sind schon uralt. Cool.
Frische Zubereitung steht hier auch ganz oben. So wird die Guacamole bei jedem direkt am Tisch zubereitet, sodass man zugucken kann.
Das Essen hat mich ansonsten jedoch nicht vom Hocker gerissen. Eine Geschmacksexplosion gab es leider nicht. Schade.
Die Toiletten waren leider auch nicht wirklich sauber. Es lag überall Papier rum, eine funktionierte gar nicht und die Seife war alle. So etwas kann passieren, wenn abends Highlife im Restaurant ist, jedoch sollte es nicht der Fall sein, wenn man wie wir zum Mittag da ist.
Ich würde den Laden nicht unbedingt weiterempfehlen. Für diese Erfahrung muss man nicht unbedingt nach L.A. — das bekommt man auch in Berlin.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We had reservations at 6:30 p.m., walked in on time and we were told it would take a few minutes. Well about 15 minutes passed by and we had to remind the hostess we had a reservation. Finally we are seated but played the waiting game again, this time for a waiter. We were sitting for a solid 10 – 15 minutes and we kept trying to flag down a waiter but we were ignored more than once. Finally my friend gets up and goes to the hostess and asks if we’re going be served. Well I guess a manager overheard and rushed over to us. By this time me and my friends were already irritated and we wanted to hurry because we had concert tickets. The manager apologized profusely and he proceeds to put our order in. In the time we were waiting for our food, we weren’t offered water. We had to try and flag down another waiter for water. Our food finally came out but our drinks still weren’t at the table. The manager comes with a big pitcher of Sangria and a margarita and says the drinks were on him because of the wait and bad service we had already received.
The food was not memorable or good at all. I shared the nachos with my best friend. They were super greasy and soggy. The cheese was some kind of cheese sauce and it the pico de gallo was overpowered with onion. The chicken on the nachos was seasoned well, I just wish there was more chicken. My other girlfriend ordered the chicken flautas. She said they were also soggy and not tasty. Our sangria was pretty good as was the margarita, I wouldn’t pay $ 15 for it though, way overpriced. All in all, this place was super white washed mexican food, and very overpriced for what you get. The table salsa wasn’t even good, it was very mild and had no season to it. We were pretty disappointed even though we got most of our meal comped. I understand that restaurants can get very packed on peak hours, what I don’t understand is not putting enough staff on or stop taking reservations/​walk ins if your staff cannot handle the amount of patrons.
The restaurant art was nice, nice fixtures but no mexican music, I don’t think we will be coming back.

With a beautiful name like Rosa Mexicana and cool mexican décor, I was hoping this place would be legit.
Nope.
I didn’t try the food so I can’t say anything about that, but we did have drinks at the bar.
The place was pretty empty (three tables seated) even though yard house around the corner was packed.
We were looking for some margaritas and micheladas and figured this place would solve all our problems. The margaritas were $ 15 and came in a small glass. For $ 15 and the fact that I’m at a mexican restaurant, the right thing to do is serve it in a tall margarita glass. One of the margaritas was a blended strawberry margaritas and it tasted icy and sweet with no sign of alcohol. I ordered a chelita– michelada with lime, cholula, and worcestershire. It unfortunately just tasted like salty lemon soda water.
The drinks as a whole lacked flavor and seemed very watered down.
I just can’t see myself coming back for drinks. Wasn’t impressed. Maybe food is better??? Maybe.

Good Mexican food options here, food is decent, service is pretty good, and the guac here is pretty mouthwatering!
I’ve been here for both lunch and dinner times and had a good experience. Just recently I was here on a Saturday around 6pm before a concert and it wasn’t too crazy busy. We ordered the quesadilla and since they don’t have a chicken option they charge $ 6 more for it. We also ordered the shrimp tacos that were pretty good and it comes with rice, beans and corn on the cob.
The drinks are pretty good, you must try the coconut mojitos — $ 12 each. For dessert we got the Flan — wow now that was pretty darn good! You must check that one out!

BEST GUAC IVE HAD IN MY LIFE!!! Serio… they roll out a guac stand to your table and the guy mashes the avocados right in front of you. The texture was sooo buttery and so fresh in flavor.
Came on a Wednesday night and the restaurant wasn’t crowded at all. They brought out 3 different types of salsa to us after being seated and were quick to take our orders. Food came out in ~10 minutes, not bad.
On to the entrees – ordered the pollo pibil (huge slab of juicy tender chicken) and mahi tacos with corn elote.
SO DELICIOUS. The plaintains that came with the pollo pibil crispy on the out, melty on the in. But the mashed black beans… omg. I’m not normally a fan of beans in general but those were orgasmic. Dolloped some on top of my mahi taco… perfection. Don’t even get me started on the elote. The portions are huge and yes we ordered a lot of food… we stuffed our face silly.
Staff was great! The girl was super friendly and helpful and frequently checked in on us without being intrusive.
Soo yea. I’d come back.
