Ruiz Family Day Care

I was told that I cannot drop my infant 5 minutes before the start time. If I drop 5 minutes or an hour after then there is no reimbursement off course. Dorris told me that’s not fair, Well hello its 5 minutes (and it was for just sake of discussion, its likely not going to happen) and I am so punctual I can get there 5 minutes before to avoid traffic, you can have a waiting lobby and have parents seated before they drop there children on exact time (On the dot), If we work together for a long time there will be days when pick and drop times are 5 minutes or 10 minutes apart (early or late), Besides Why would I want to drop my infant here when there rules are so strict and tone is so non friendly.

Doris and her staff are outstanding! They have been helping us with our four-​year-​old daughter for over a year now and really been life savers. Not only are the kids being watched, they are playing, eating good food, and in our case, being dropped off at preschool several days a week. They have also helped us in a few situations where we needed last-​minute child care. In addition, there are several nights a year where parents are invited for dinner and have a chance to meet each other. One of daughter’s Christmas highlights last December was going to see Santa at Doris’s on one of these nights. I give them my highest recommendation!

I don’t write reviews. This might actually be my first one, but I cannot keep quiet about my experience.
I visited this place after have visiting many family daycare and and daycare centers. I felt like yes, finally, a place that felt right. A place where I felt like I can trust to leave my daughter there. Cozy, clean, a lot of love from the director and staff; there was always supervision.
Unfortunately things got sour fast. I was told they would only take her in on the weekends because they were full during the weekdays. Which was fine with me since I had a very flexible schedule. I thought, «How hard working! She never takes a day off!» I told her I needed to start asap which she was also ok with. I came the following day to finalize everything but was told she was out for the day due to a doctors appt. Ok. I followed up and was told she wouldn’t be back until 5 days later. 5 days later I called. She then told me watching my toddler on the weekends would not be consistent because she, herself would be visiting her kid in college so she tried to ask if her assistant would work the weekends; they wanted more pay then what Doris quoted me/​what we were willing to pay her. She said, «I cannot pay the difference out of my own pocket.» Well of course not!
I was truly upset. She really wasted my time. If she told me this from the start I could have had other places lined up quickly instead she made it seem like a ‘for sure deal’ then backed out last minute. I’ve been without day care since August and have been pulling many all nighters doing work that needed to get done, hopefully anyone might be able to sympathize with my frustration. I’m a single parent with absolutely no help. (My sis will watch my baby every sat for 3 hours with me right by her side (which just started) so I usually step in when she’s having trouble so let’s just round off to 1.5−2 hours of uninterrupted time).
I don’t understand why she couldn’t tell me directly why she didn’t want to take us in. After reading all these positive reviews compared to what I experienced I am bitter. Homecooked meal?! Pft. I was offered a quote WITHOUT snacks and WITH SNACKS. No way would she give me food to take home.
My gut tells me she didn’t want us because:
–I would only use her services for 2 days out the week. It wouldn’t work out profit wise if there is a cap to how many children they can have for family daycare. This I could understand.
— I am being funded by CalWorks, but money is money. I am not giving her food stamps here. So there is the irony with being ‘licensed and insured by’ Children’s Home Society since they care for children without safe homes.
THE ICING OF THE CAKE would have to be Dorris offering me, «But if you have an emergency or need a last minute care/​babysitter then you can call us.»
Why thank you for seeing me as only money and not as a person who really believed in you and your place then just kicking me out the door because I couldn’t offer more pay. (Keep in mind that I accepted her original offered rates).
MY REVIEW HERE IS NOT REFLECTIVE OF THE WHOLE STAFF. I am certain the service is of quality but I am discussing the quality of business here done with the director.
I am truly disappointed. I won’t be coming back for any reason at all.

After I had my son, I was faced with the hard reality that I had to go back to work. My husband and I work full time and the thought of leaving our first born was VERY difficult for us. A friend of mine had recommended Doris to us and it was one of the best recommendations we ever got.
Doris and her staff are family to us. They are patient and kind and have been watching our son since he was 3 months old and he LOVES Miss Doris, Aracely and Blanca! He genuinely gets excited when he sees them and that melts my heart. I love that Doris sets up Mother’s Day and Meet The Parents dinners and that she posts pics on the FB page so I can see what my little man is up to during the day. She also offers date night once a month from 6−10pm on the last Saturday of the month and that has been great for us!
Our son gets to learn Spanish, sing songs and play music, learn the alphabet, have books read to him, make art and play with other kids — all this in a nurturing, loving environment. I can’t recommend Ruiz Family Daycare enough!

TL; DR: Great facility, lots of fun activities, professionally run, able to handle complex needs and requests.
Doris and her staff are very caring and attentive to all the children and also very flexible with parents’ scheduling. We placed our 2.5 year old foster son there and were often unsure from week to week what his enrollment status was going to be due to court hearings (i.e. when he would eventually be reunited with his biological parents). In every case, Doris worked with us so that if there was a spot available, he would be fit in. In the rare instances where that was not possible (being fair to other parents), we were able to use a partial day and thus not have to miss a whole day of work. Throughout the whole crazy experience, the staff handled complex questions and instructions easily (different days picking him up early to support parental visits, evaluation visits by social workers, etc) and always returned his property and clothes without mixup. They communicated concerns well (i.e. the old visitation schedule resulted in him missing naps, so we were able to get the court to make adjustments). He was always clean (or as clean as a 2 year old finger painting can be *GRIN*) and well feed when we picked him up. They run a very professional operation with secure, logged entry and exit, a clean, friendly environment, and lots of activities.
All this is indicative of the high quality of care our son received. He genuinely learned better social skills and had a lot of fun there. They also hold special events like Easter Egg hunts and Mothers Day events that help us feel more involved with his daycare.
I can not give a higher recommendation than I do for Ruiz Family Daycare.

I can’t tell you how mucho love this place. It is simply sweet ladies who have worked with kids for over 30 years. They are the toddler whisperers. My son was always happy to walk into school and I loved that he came home with paint on him. They would Apologize but I loved it because then I knew they we real allowing him to really place and explore. I also like that the home and the daycare are completely separate and that they spend a lot of time outside and covered by the tents.
I have since moved to pasadena and we have been thru 2 daycares just trying to find something that fits us like the Ruiz family Daycare.

We were so lucky to have found Doris and her crew. I came in from out of town for a work event for 4 days. Doris was able to accommodate my crazy schedule for my two year old. She has a great in home facility in a nice neighborhood. I had several late night events I had to attend and my little boy was well taken care of until 10:30p almost every night I was there. Her prices were very reasonable. I felt very comfortable leaving my child with Ruiz family day care, even though we arrived totally unfamiliar with her and the area. I recommend highly! I will use her every time I am in town.

My daughter attended Ruiz Family Daycare in Long Beach from the time she was 4 months old until she was 10 months old, when we moved out of the state. I loved taking her to Ruiz Family Daycare, and always felt comfortable leaving her in the loving care of Doris, Aracely, and Blanca. These three caregivers are all amazing women, and they truly show great patience and love toward all of the children in their care. I felt that they loved my daughter as much as I do.
My only regret is that we couldn’t bring Doris, Aracely, and Blanca with us when we moved! I highly recommend Ruiz Family Daycare to any parent considering care for their child.

Ms. Doris, Arceli, and her staff are heaven sent! They care for each child as if they are their own. Starting from the facility and all the way to the food they prepare for the children to eat while they are there. In addition, the staff interacts with the kids and take them out often so they won’t be stuck inside like prisoners, lol! My daughter loves it there and I have peace of mind knowing she is being well taken care of. Ruiz Daycare does so many great things it will be lengthy to name them all.

I contacted this place via their website and left a phone message, but I never got a response back :(Based upon the reviews on here it is a great place, but it appears I will never know!
On a plus, their website had information which I find to be a plus.

Owning a Fitness Studio keeps me very busy as I work 12 – 14 hour days. Doris has been an unbelievable blessing to me in that I know my 6 year old son is in a loving home and comes home happy. I have personally recommended her to all of my clients and students. Her rates are very reasonable and the best part is that she is open 24 hours which helps if I need an occasional night away!

i am using Doris now and she is absolutly fantastic. i was referred to her by a friend and really lucked out. i am a new mom and i have been bringing my 7 month old daughter to doris for about 4 months. she is very interactive with the children and makes sure to celebrate all birthdays and holidays. i remember picking madeline up on the friday before easter and all the kids, even the baby had lil bunny ears on that they made and were doing an easter egg hunt. it was a heart melting moment to say the least. they go on walks through the neighborhood and are always dressed in dry clothes and combed hair at the end of the day. i love that i can trust that my daughter is not only safe but enjoying her days while im at work. i love this woman and cannot say enough good things about her.

Doris is awesome! My husband and I don’t have family in the area, so she has really been there for us. She really loves her kids and we love her. I like that my son gets to learn basic spanish and she is flexible with after hours and weekends. We don’t know what we would do without her.

I Love Doris Ruiz, owner of Ruiz Family Daycare!!! She has been watching my daughters for the last three years. She does before and after school care as well as 24 hour daycare services. or even if you need a day or night out… she has it covered!!! My kids love her cooking… and my 5 yr old is learning basic spanish!!! they have fun, painting and playing and she even does some music times. love her!!!
