Too bad they are closed it was the most personable place to eat in the area even if they didn’t know you they acted like you had been friends for years !

I’m so sad Rick & Brian’s has closed! Was the perfect place to go for a good down home breakfast. My girlfriend and would walk there and loved spending our mornings in a booth reading the paper and drinking hot coffee out of an awesome random mug. The servers were all down to earth, friendly and fun to talk to. I’m sure there are a lot of regulars that will miss this place too. Thanks Rick & Brian’s for a lot of good breakfast, cozy mornings and a legit $ 2 mimosa! I hope you find another location soon!

Stars not applicable… Im pretty sure they’ve closed their doors. October 31 was their last day of business. Had been coming here since it was Magnolia Café(2004). Another piece of Long Beach history gone. Thanks guys for making R & B’s a memorable part of our lives. Miss u already!

Wishing the wonderful owners and staff all the best as this great restaurant closes. Your business and contribution to the community enhaced the richness and diversity of the city. Thank you for the many years of great food, great times and fond memories!

With so many trendy breakfast joints in Long Beach, Rick & Brian’s Café is like a throwback in comparison. Your typical greasy spoon, it feels like a classic diner. It’s a little rough around the edges, but pretty reliable. They serve a range of items for breakfast lunch and dinner, but I’ve only been interested in breakfast. They have bike delivery, which is cool if you live nearby. I go with the Griddle Combo for breakfast. Comes with egg, sausage, bacon, and choice of pancakes, french toast, cinnamon roll, or a Belgian waffle. I always go with the waffle, it’s one of the few legit waffle options around. Put some egg and bacon in there. Boom, waffle sandwich. Online ordering has some issues. Time estimates frequently come in 30 – 40 minutes later than phone orders, which usually take no more than 10. And I couldn’t order breakfast online until after 10, despite opening at 6:30. So just call it in. The staff is friendly, and happy to take your order. Edit: sounds like they are closing up. Not sure if it’s a change of ownership or an entirely different business replacing it altogether, but I will miss their waffles. Kinda wish I had gone sooner and more often.

It is where the regulars of Long Beach go. The clientele are older than the usual foodie hipster scene, which means there is never a wait! But the food is solid!

This place is great! For $ 11.59 I got Liver & Onions & Bacon, choice of roll or garlic toast, soup, and choice of salad or potato, and green beans! It was AWESOME! Their soups are homemade too! I’m going to be so sorry to see this great Pop & Pop Café close it’s doors Oct. 31st… We’re losing all of these down home cooking cafes to overpriced, stuffy, restaurants… What a shame!

I’ve ordered delivery from Rick and Brian’s about 3 times now. The portions are always gigantic and the food is always tasty. If I want a home cooked meal but don’t feel like cooking a feast, I call them ! Soooo good !

The medium rare prime rib that I ordered ended up being well done. The waitress told us that this is as «rare» as they have it while another patron did get a medium rare piece. Also the meal came with soup or salad. I ordered a lentil soup which ended up being vegetable soup with a heavy layer of oil on top. Not a good first impression if you ask me. There was a $ 5 discount which was nice but I’d rather management know about these incidents first hand.

This place needs to close its doors and save the money. I ordered some breakfast for delivery and guess what it was total crap. I got a Denver omelet which is really hard to eff up but they did. The eggs were under cooked the peppers and onions were over cooked(dead and a grayish green) I got the hash brown casserole as my side which was crap as well. No one should ever go here. I hope the owners read these reviews because they need a wake up call and new taste buds. I’m disgusted.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. We ordered breakfast trying to cure an honest hang over and if it wasn’t for that, we would have sent the food back. I ordered the«Steve’s Stuffed Breakfast Croissant» and it showed up covered in hollandaise sauce. Effing disgusting. I personally do not like Hollandaise sauce so I was just totally grossed out. No where in the description did it say it had hollandaise sauce in or on it. Anyway — even if it didn’t have the sauce, I still wouldn’t order it again, or anything from Rick & Brian’s ever again. My boyfriend ordered the Denver Omelette which showed up with the eggs under cooked and the insides of the omelette all over the bottom of the styrofoam container. My eggs were burnt and his were under cooked… what!?! I can’t even believe they’d send food out the way they did. As the owner of this café, I’d be ashamed and embarrassed. Do not waste your time or money coming to this sh*t hole. p. s. — del taco has better food than this place

This is a tough place to review. I’ve been coming here for several years, through the past 3 owners. I’d gladly award their breakfast 5 stars, but their«theme dinners» range between 1 star(South of the Border night) to 2 stars(German night, whose best choice is the Russian goulash). Their basics(meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and chicken fried steak) are excellent; however, salads are not included in the price of a meal and are add-ons(I am told that this is about to change). Great staff, hardworking, and enjoyably loud. Most of the customers are regulars and the place feels like a dysfunctional family gathering. Just enjoy it. As someone who likes really rare servings of meat(rare, not medium-rare), the cooks here seem to only know medium-well or burnt to a crisp, so be warned. Large portions, they now have a delivery service(Grub Hub?), and easy parking. Also, generous dessert portions. Again, their breakfasts are terrific. Reasonable prices.

Food is good. Basic diner stuff. Wait staff is solid. But the kitchen is super slow. I watched the wait staff constantly asking where their orders were. Better do something bout those cooks Rick and Brian or I just might have to find a new breakfast spot.

I’ve only been here for breakfast twice, but I have LOVED my food both times! And my boyfriend can’t NOT get the chicken fried chicken… it’s so tender and tasty!!! Yes, it’s a diner… but my service has always been amazing, my food came out quickly, and we’ve enjoyed our meal. And $ 2 mimosas don’t hurt. :)

Officially the worst meal I have had in Long Beach since I moved here nearly 20 years ago. I have been coming here once and awhile for a long time but the ongoing slide finally reached the point where it is time to say, «Adiós.» I realize they have their fans, mostly from the nearby assisted living facilities, and the parking is great(important for Long Beach), but the food quality has slipped below the minimum acceptable Dennys/Spires/Carrows level. The lack of customers is probably a factor. Everything on my plate seemed like it had been around for awhile: mushy vegetables, dry chicken breasts clearly cooked under a weight, very dry baked potato. Fortunately you can see the very old desserts in the case and know not to go there. Breakfast items or sandwiches might be OK, especially if you are using the laundromat a few doors down. Subway is right around the corner if you really want a salad or a sandwich and want to spend less than $ 10. If you are going to spend $ 19 for a meal(beverage, dinner, tip) you can do so much better just about anywhere else. The lack of value is what really offended me the most. The very long wait for my check didn’t help, either.

I walk in and they tell me that I can sit anywhere that I want to. I sit down and immediately feel a pain on my leg. I grabbed my leg and looked down and it was bleeding. I looked to see what that was that could have done it and there was a nail sticking out of the side of the bench that I was sitting on. I tell the waitress that there is a nail sticking out and ask if they have a first aid kit. She says sure i’ll get it for you in the most nonchalant tone. She comes back a few minutes later with spray and band aids and simply says«I’m sorry about that» and then she walks away. She comes back a few minutes later and asks me if I am ready to order. She takes my order and I told her that I wanted it to go. I ordered the chicken wrap. I took it to go. That was the last that I heard from or saw that waitress. It took a while for me to get the food also. I just feel like that situation was handled poorly. The waitresses did not seem very friendly. None of the three of them that were there. The vibe of the place was not that friendly either. Perhaps I picked a bad day. Maybe if I hadnt had that NAIL slash my leg it would have been a different experience. Its been over a week and its still healing. Thats how bad it is. Not to mention, nails sticking out from hairs is dangerous. I personally just feel like they didn’t care at all. I gave it a 2 star because the food was okay. I’ve had better flavor and overall it was okay. I am interested in what their other stuff was like. Perhaps I might order to go next time just to try and give it a chance. But the way that this was handled was absolutely fricking POOR!!! I was nice about it on top of that and didn’t freak out even though of course the first thing we think about is tetanus. For the simple fact that I was not being dramatic she could have been nicer and more empatheic about it. She just kind of left me to deal with it when it was their issue.

Fast and friendly and good food… best of all. .THEYHAVEGRITS! go try and find a decent bowl of grits in Long Beach. .good luck, being from Georgia, I know good grits when I eat it. Oh, and when I asked for crispy bacon, guess what I got, CRISPYBACON! The staff actually listened to me, WHAT A CONCEPT! I didn’t even have to ask for refill on coffee. I thought I was back in a friendly southern restaurant(with out the southern drawl)

I traveled here in my quest for the ever-elusive monte cristo sandwich. This neighborhood diner is the type of place where you see several old codgers standing outside, taking a break from their meal while they have a smoke. When you walk inside, it looks a little on the skanky side… old & beat up, not excessively clean(especially the men’s restroom) and a clutter of freebie magazines at the entrance. I obeyed the«seat yourself» sign and was brought a menu immediately. There was just one waitress for the entire diner. She did a great job throughout my lunch; she was very efficient and attentive to all tables. She seemed to know most of the folks who walked through the door. I ordered the monte cristo with fries. The mountain of fries were done perfectly and served piping hot. This place knows how to do a monte cristo properly. A deep fried french toast sandwich of turkey, ham and cheese with a sprinkling of powdered sugar on top and a side of strawberry jam to dip it into. Definitely one of the better monte cristo sandwiches I’ve had. I liked that it was not very greasy at all(nor were the fries). I would give a 5 for the food and service but the diner itself needs some tender loving care.
