Service rendered: Ring repair. One of the small gemstones fell out of its setting and I wanted it replaced.
Pros: 1) Because I had such a positive experience last time, I left my pearl and garnet ring with them for repair. Apparently, the first gemstone replacement did not look good with the rest of the gemstones, so they found another gemstone that better matches the rest. I tried to guess which one was the replacement, and I got it wrong! That’s how spot-​on the new gemstone is! 2) Customer service is excellent. I parked in the back because of First Fridays in Bixby Knolls. It was very dark in the back lot, and one of their staff accompanied me out to make sure I got to my car safely. 3) The final cost was very reasonable. They stuck with the estimate that they provided when I dropped it off.
Cons: None for this service experience.
Summary: This ring was purchased overseas. It is not an extravagant, expensive ring but it was custom made, so I was absolutely crushed when the gemstone fell out. I haven’t worn the ring in about two years because looking at it with that empty space always made me sad, and I was extremely hesitant to take it to a different jeweler because I was afraid that the new gemstone wouldn’t match the others. I took a huge chance on Jonathan Kay because I didn’t see myself going back to the country where I bought it any time soon– certainly not to get the ring fixed. The risk paid off, and I am so thrilled and happy to have a complete, finished ring.
NOTE: After my first review, I was contacted by a fellow Unilocaler who had a very negative experience with this business. As terrible as her experience was, I didn’t appreciate the implicit tone that my review might not be real. (The question about paid advertisers censoring bad reviews is a whole different matter. Read about this by doing a Google search.) I would like the rest of the Unilocal community know that this is an honest, unsolicited, unpaid review of Jonathan Kay Fine Jewelry. I am not a friend, family member, or associate of this business. I was just a customer in need of services that they provided in a fair and excellent manner.

Jonathan did an excellent job for me on my wife’s wedding set. He does custom design work with an excellent attention to detail and quality. I enjoyed working with him. I would recommend his work to anyone.

I brought my vintage 1920’s engagement ring into Jonathan Kay because a tiny diamond fell out and the main stone was loose… The owner as his son were incredibly nice to me, felt like family :) When they returned my ring I almost cried it looked SO MUCH better, I couldn’t believe it! I initially purchased an engagement ring wanting something unique with very specific design elements and he blew away my expectations with the quality of craftsmanship and beauty of the ring. We have been looking for a while for a jeweler we could trust and Jonathan is that person. He stands behind his work and does a great job. Also felt very welcome in his shop, very friendly. We will be bringing all our jewelry that needs repairs here from now on.

I am a firm believer in supporting local businesses. In Bixby Knolls, we have a top notch jewelry shop in Jonathan Kay Fine Jewelry! Jonathan is very experienced, creative, meticulous, reliable and conscientious. I have taken in several items for repair including an antique jewelry piece and within a few days, he has returned them to their original state. I recently had him custom make a pendant for me. It is a beautiful, one of a kind, very well crafted piece of jewelry. His store is filled with unique pieces at a spectrum of price points.

Jonathan has been our family jeweler for almost 30 years. When our mom was dying last year we gave him her jewelry to sell to help cover her medical expenses etc… To date he owes us over $ 30,000! He is not responsive to us or our attorney. We picked up all unsold jewelry in December 2014 and he still has not provided us any documentation for the sales of the missing items. The one time in December 2014 when he did provide a short list of items he had paid us for, he was claiming to have sold items that he actually had previously returned to us. In other words, his list was complete garbage. This is why we came and picked up all the remaining items right away only to find out he was short 57 items!
He does not care that he caused his to have to short sale her house and has cost us to lose way more than the $ 32,000-$ 35,000 he still owes us. This has been one of the worst experiences of our lives. It is bad enough losing our mother, but then to have someone we trusted for almost 30 years turn out to be such a ridiculous nightmare is beyond sickening.
Let’s talk about Unilocal. We have followed all their content rules. In fact, we see very nasty reviews on other merchant’s websites that stay there. Jonathan is a PAID Unilocal ADVERTISER and most every review our family has posted have been hidden under not currently recommended, removed for supposed content violations or our accounts have been completely deleted! Yet, we have proven to Unilocal via online form submission that many of his reviews are FAKE and written by his Friends and Family breaking Unilocal’s rules, yet Unilocal refuses to remove them. In addition, Jonathan solicits his customers to write him a positive review offering them financial incentives which is also against Unilocal’s rules. Unilocal does not take phone calls from the general public regarding reviews, yet it appears that their Paid Advertisers can call in and lie through their teeth and reviewer’s accounts get deleted with no process to appeal the deletion. If this is why our accounts get deleted, Unilocal should be ashamed of themselves for protecting criminal businesses when they don’t have all the facts and won’t communicate with both sides. Do you think we would have picketers outside his store if he did not owe us over $ 30,000? This man has devastated our entire family and having Unilocal take sides and delete our reviews and close our accounts just throws salt in our wounds and defeats the entire purpose of Unilocal’s existence.

this experience was as good as it gets. jonathan is a top class, mindful person of true kindness. I came in wanting to create a custom piece for myself, from a brass charm statuette that I brought in of a garuda (mythical bird of thailand and indonesia). it was explained clear to me how they would attach it to a small yoke piece that would loop to a chain. a jeweler cleaned up the charm, and jonathan helped me choose a nice gold chain, just what I wanted to make this all work together. I was promised return in a week, I think it took just over a couple of days. I’ll show the piece when I can attach a photo here later. thank you jonathan for this experience, you’ve gained my trust and I will be back

I walked in with a unique bracelet that I had ruined by leaving it in the silver cleaner. Jon treated me as if I were his best customer. He had the bracelet restored so it is as shiny as when I bought it, and shortened it so now it fits me – all for a reasonable price.

Out of nowhere my favorite watched stopped working. Lucky for me I found this jewelry shop, one day when we were visiting the first Friday event in Bixby Knolls. The guys working there were friendly and said it wouldn’t be a problem to fix. All we had to do was drop it off there for a few days and now everything is back to working again!
