This family business is one of the oldest dive shops in Southern California. Our newly remodeled dive training and swimming center has an indoor heated pool with the latest Eco-​Safe ozone filtration system. Meet the Manager

Scott and Matt M.

Manager

Scott works with infants, children, and adults of all ages and abilities. His favorite part about teaching swim lessons is having fun and watching his students gain confidence in the water. Scott has a special ability to relate with children and help them overcome any fears they may have during their lessons. Scott is also a scuba instructor and specializes in teaching scuba to children and teenagers.

Matt got his Open Water certification while in Australia back in 2001, spent (too little) time in the Galapagos Islands, got his Advanced Open Water in the Caribbean, and has spent his last few years braving the mysterious waters of southern California. He’s trained with numerous agencies and in numerous specialties, obtaining his Master Scuba Diver rating before deciding to go Pro and become a Divemaster, then Open Water Scuba Instructor. With over a decade of management experience in theatre & opera, managing a Scuba Center was the obvious next step.

The only reason I give three stars is due to the bad experience I had with my open water instructor, Jaclyn & her poor performance as an instructor.
To be honest the overall service was really good. Matt the manager was a great guy, super friendly & great customer service. The crew aboard the westerly which was the boat we took to Catalina for the boat dive were great, they even waited for a couple of minutes cause I was late, which I’m truly grateful for!
My instructor Jaclyn however lacked energy and enthusiasm while teaching. She makes teaching us seem like a burden. She also gets annoyed very quickly if we don’t get it the first time. At one point, for the controlled emergency swimming ascend, she actually yelled at me for inflating using the BCD instead of orally which is hardly a mistake worth yelling for. Her classes are dull and often times discomforting cause you can’t ask her things if you’re not sure or confused. On several occasions I get sarcastic responses to genuine questions. Sometimes I’m not sure if she gives me shit because I’m a slow learner or because I’m a foreigner. Either ways, we’re all here to learn and to treat students as such is truly unprofessional. Personally she ruined my open water experience.
For the second pool dive however, she had called in sick and the dive tech, Josh filled in for her. I only wish he could have been my instructor. He was much more enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. He made the lesson much more informative, interactive and fun at the same time. I would strongly recommend him instead of her if you guys have the chance pick.

I’m very glad I went to Deep Blue for my Open Water Dive certification. They were there to help me every step of the way and made it super easy to get it done. I will be going to them for future courses/​gear and I’d recommend them to you too!

The staff at Deep Blue are awesome. We just completed our PADI Dive certification with Deep Blue Scuba, our instructor Josh is awesome. very patient, very knowledgeable and I felt 100% safe during our ocean dives. The staff makes you feel like part of the family not just a customer, they don’t pressure you to buy any equipment but will point you in the right direction for any equipment you need. I would highly recommend Deep Blue if you’re looking to get your dive certification…

Swimming instructor (Cory) is so great with my daughter. She has a firm but patient demeanor. She develops teaching techniques that are very individualize to my daughter’s needs. She has made the swimming experience for my daughter an incredible one– she looks forward to each swimming lesson with great anticipation.

My review is strictly on pricing! $ 155 per month and the 2nd child $ 145 This price gives you one 20 minute lesson per week that’s 80 minutes! I researched pricing and I can get 30 minute private twice weekly for $ 99

Deep Blue is awesome! I went through Deep Blue to do my open water and advanced scuba certifications. For both certifications the instructors (Josh and John) were fantastic. They were knowledgable, good at teaching, and made me feel safe. All of the staff I have interacted with at the store have been great. They answer my endless questions and have given super helpful advice for diving plans outside of the area. I am going on an international scuba trip with them in March and planning for that has also been super easy.
Also, I originally wasn’t planning to buy my gear through Deep Blue because I assumed it would be much more expensive than alternative places. But the people at Deep Blue helped me come up with what I needed and after the 10% discount for students it was literally the exact same price as it would have been at a discount place for the same things. After figuring that out I buy everything directly from Deep Blue because I would much rather support them, especially when it doesn’t add a lot of extra cost.
Basically they are fantastic :)

Great Parent And Me classes! There was no pressure to dunk my 4 month old underwater and it was very instructional to each child’s level. They sing songs and the 30 min goes by quick!
Street parking is hard to find but there’s a pay lot near it.

Great local dive shop in long beach. They really live what they believe and have underwater clean-​up dives (with free rental of gear if you participate), group trips, classes etc. Everyone is very friendly and goes out of their way to make sure you are happy with what you’re getting. They never try to sell you on stuff you don’t need and will give their honest, experience-​based opinions. Everyone dives and will be able to give you good advice.
My instructor (not-​affiliated) who I trust with my life (literally) said these are the guys! They totally hooked it up for me with my gear. I got by BCD, wedsuit, regs, etc. (everything you need as a beginner diver trying to move up) at below-​sale prices! Loved it!

Love, Love, LOVE Deep Blue! Both my 16 year old and 10 year old daughters were certified through them. Instructors are knowledgeable and patient. They are so great, in fact, that my 16 year old wants to continue on in her training and is a diver for life now. I can’t possible recommend them highly enough. We love Deep Blue.

Parent and me swim classes are a great way to learn how to dunk your child under water without harming them.
Lots of laughs with minimal emotional scarring.
Just a note: grabby babies will pull off string bikini tops.

This review comes with a heavy heart:(I always try to be reasonable.
They did get me gear back in a timely fashion, that’s why the 2 star and not 1.
I’m a rescue diver and working toward my Master Diver certification.
I had my gear serviced by Deep Blue in April right before a May trip to Roatan for 7 days of diving. My transmitter stopped relaying tank pressure signal to my D4i on about dive 10 of the trip. I had Sport Chalet in Valencia check it, maybe Deep Blue forgot to change the battery? They told me the transmitter had been flooded and is not repairable.
When I checked with Deep Blue, they said it was serviced by them and to bring it in so they can check it.
Well it is ruined. They sold me a new one at a 20% discount, but takes no responsibility for the damage, saying that it probably got wet through my reg. Because I’ve had all the same 1st, 2nd and Suunto transmitter for 2 years and never a problem. Just saying, seems likely that they have some liability.. they lost my business and I will never refer them!
Just glad they didn’t screw up my regulator and leave me working a buddy to surface in Roatan.
The crew in the shop were very cool, but someone running the place needs to man up and take responsibility.
Probably good until they have to accept some responsibility. Shame on Deep Blue! Diver’s beware.

Just finished my Rescue Diver cert with Eric, and Lindsay (who did the EFR training). The instruction was very professional, and we still had a great time in the process. With all the choices for scuba diving shops in So Cal, I have had the opportunity to train with, and dive with a lot of different outfits. This is the best I’ve found!
The instructors are not intimidating, or «holier than thou», and they seem like they are really just doing it because it’s what they love to do. They’re a fun-​loving, easy going group. Can’t say enough good things…

My son (4 this month) has been at Deep Blue for about 1 ½ years (started at 2 ½), and my 18 month old daughter has been in lessons since 13 months. My son can swim across the pool and my daughter can float on her back for short periods of time. They are both in weekly 20 minute private lessons. I would highly recommend Deep Blue and also suggest that starting lessons the younger the better! I only wish I had started my son as early as my daughter.

They have recently remodeled and the service keeps getting better. My daughter is making great progress and is swimming with «Big Arms» at 2 ½ years old.
Had a Drysuit manufacture recall, the owner gave a loner at no charge.

I did my Open Water Scuba Diving Certification here this past week, and I can’t recommend Deep Blue enough! I also bought all of my gear here and Matt was awesome in assisting me (I googled everything I bought afterward to compare prices, and their prices were very fair) with his recommendations, which were invaluable.
We did two of our four dives in their indoor pool, which is heated to 91 degrees and has an ozone filter (look Ma — no chlorine!). We didn’t even have to rinse off our gear afterwards. Trust me on this, it’s a hastle to rinse off all of your scuba gear after being in the pool and underwater for hours. And it’s heated, too (I have nightmares from being a kid and screaming till my head come off because of the icy cold water at Belmont Pool).
Eric and Lindsay were fabulous instructors and really cared about us. Both awesome instructors!
The numerous times I’ve been in the shop the owner John always has a few of his family either working there or hanging out. A few times I hung around for a bit to talk some shop. Such a great environment run by great people.
My Pops will be back to get his diving certification in the next few weeks because of how amazing everyone was here. Thank you Deep Blue!!!

I did my open water dive certification class here and I was very satisfied with everything! Lindsay was my instructor and she was so knowledgeable & encouraging. With her energy and excitement there was never a dull moment during the course which included two pool sessions, a beach dive, and three boat dives. My fiancé, who already has his open water dive certification, joined us on the boat dives off Catalina Island which worked out really well. We had a great time!
The staff is friendly and they really know their stuff. When I bought gear they were informative and made good recommendations without pressuring you to buy anything. My fiancé and I went into the shop several times for pool sessions and to pick up/​rent gear, return gear, buy gear, etc. and everybody including the owner was so friendly every time.
I had so much of fun getting certified and would definitely recommend doing it here! I cannot think of anything else they could have done better.
