Best Western Golden Sails Hotel

The hotel is very dated but very clean. The staff is phenomenal. One of the friendliest, most helpful staffs I’ve encountered and I travel A LOT. centrally located and convenient to many area attractions.

Great food and a beautiful view!!! A really great place to have an event wedding, 15era, baby showers etc.
The chef had been here for over 30 years and is very profesional and friendly as is all the staff… I Love this place my Family and I have come here and have been having our events at this hotel/​restaurant for over 30 years and have always been very satisfied with the service here reasonable prices for a classy experience!!!

Great place! Clean, comfortable, and safe! The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Staying here for a while as I’ve just returned to long beach and need to find housing. There are cheaper places to stay, but they are sketchy and dirty. This place is worth the small amount more that you pay. They have a great free breakfast buffet as well. Not to mention a wonderful jacuzzi and pool. Close to all the great things long beach has to offer.

Stayed for one night, on a Friday. Staff was friendly and answered all my questions. This place is in a real good location off of the PCH. If I ever need to stay in the area again, I’ll definitely stay here.

We always have an amazing time when we come here exclamation point we love all the staff from the front desk, to the management, to the housekeeping, to those who helped with a complimentary breakfast buffet they are all welcoming and the rooms are all beautiful the pool in the hot tub are amazing! We always make it a point to come by here and stay when we come to Los Angeles.

Friendly staff. Always greeting with a smile. Knowledgable front desk and ready to help without wasting your time.
The room was clean, and the housekeeping does a fantastic job of cleaning the room and prepping it without messing with your stuff.
Pretty nice and convenient location if you have a car. Even though Marina Pacific is within walking distance, the hotel is situated on the side of the road where there isn’t a sidewalk for pedestrians. So you have to walk about a mile in order to be safe and get to the shopping areas.

The other BW elevator was out of order so I called this place and Leo took great care of us. He was friendly and encouraging which we appreciated after our disappointment with the 1^st place. He took care of us in a great professional manner. Pool. Hot Tub. PCH club for some salsa dancing. The Cal King size bed in our room was amazing!!! The shower pressure was great. Before leaving to Catalina the next morning we went to have the continental breakfast that was offered. Oh wow! This wasn’t your average orange juice and pastry kind of deal. Everything that you could want for breakfast was available. Victor and Carlos the servers were very attentive without being intrusive. We had a wonderful view of the water and it was so peaceful. They made sure that we always had coffee and whatever else we needed. I have never had this kind of continental breakfast level before without staying somewhere extremely expensive. Overall we had a wonderful experience at this Best Western Sails.

Bad experience here: had the room for the weekend. Left Saturday morning only to come back in the evening and find that everything was taken out and cleaned out. All my personal belongings were gone! Called the lost and found/​maid service, no answer. Called the front desk and was told that cleaning room service is gone by 3pm and they have no keys to get my belongings! I have to leave early morning before cleaning room service even comes in, so how the hell am I suppose to get my stuff?! Not to mention compensated for the things I need immediately!
Also, front desk informed me that according to their records, no one’s suppose to be in the room I’m in now… how the hell is that possible?! I mean, my room key still fucken works!
P. S. Worst. Drill. Weekend. Ever.

The beds are hard and their pillows are worst then terrible — small cubes of foam. We always take our own pillows.
Smoke alarms in hallway beeped loudly all night.
Their buffet breakfast is good with great service and that has been the reason, besides proximity to where I go, is the only reason I stay there.
But never again.
When arriving I asked for a street side room, I would consider this a least desirable room. I was told there were none available. A short time later our friends arrived and were given a street side room! We booked and paid for both rooms at the same time. The young lady at the front desk on Sept. 16^th, was rude and cost the hotel a good returning customer.

We frequent B.W.s, staying in another one in October. The grounds are nice, the lobby is not a/c’d, the pool was clean and warm, lovely place but a little dated. Popcorn ceilings, room was clean. Great comp’d breakfast buffet, the dinner was reasonable and yummy. It would be a good place for a wedding or seminar. Nothing special but convenient for a one night stay.

I’m a fan of Best Western hotels because they are consistently 3 star A-​OK. Our family of 2 adults 2 teens stayed in a 2 double bed room in August for around $ 108 per night. No surprises– it looks just like the pics and is a bit more spacious with room to walk around without bumping into each other. There is a balcony facing the PCH with 2 chairs. The room is clean but dated (i.e.- they still use bed spreads) and has a 4 cup coffee maker, fridge and microwave. Street noise might be bothersome if you are facing the PCH.
And yes, the elevator is slooow. Thankfully there are only 4 floors.
Staff is friendly, especially everyone in the breakfast room. They have a free daily breakfast– scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, waffles, cereals, pastries… just remember to get your coupons from the front desk everyday.
This hotel is a couple of minutes drive away from CSU Long beach, 5mins from Seal beach and 20 mins from Huntington beach. Nearby is a CVS, Ralphs, Borders, Sports Authority. a good central location to visit SoCal.

Stayed here for a night and was overall very pleased with my stay. It looks as though they have taken some steps to update the place, when we arrived there were brand new ac units going into some of the rooms as well as workers outside painting the exterior. The lobby was very clean, offered complimentary coffee, the front staff was very professional. You can see the pool from the lobby. Unfortunately the elevator was very small… I was very pleased to find our room was very clean, and had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard and pool. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked fine. The TV also allowed us to use our own (Amazon Firestick) and combined with the WIFI worked perfectly. (I saw some reviews that the wifi was kinda hit or miss) The pool water was warm for a pool (not sure if it’s heated) and there’s also a hot tub. I was very pleased with our complimentary breakfast (6am-​10am) — it was self serve with a variety of breakfast items to choose from. The staff kindly makes your waffles for you and provided frequent coffee service. The view of the harbor was very nice, definitely a plus! I would love to stay here again it’s a great location not very far from the beach lots to do around here!

I wish I could give a better review for this hotel.
Pros:
— Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Answered all questions patiently and with a smile.
— Despite being dated, the hotel was exceptionally clean. The bedroom, bathroom, and public spaces looked great. Great job on that!
— Breakfast was average/​good. The usual items, and some waiters served coffee and other items upon request. Very nice.
— Nice location if you’re looking for a quiet place somewhat removed from the downtown.
— Though we didn’t get to enjoy them this time, the pool and exercise facilities looked good.
Cons:
— The hotel has one elevator in the lobby, and it is VERY tiny, rickety and cramped. You could maybe get five adults in there. The lights indicating floors are broken as well, both inside and outside the elevator. We stayed on the 2^nd floor and the UP arrow was perpetually on, so we could never tell which way the elevator was headed.
— The internet was unuseable (we were in room 271 if that matters). It would work for a few moments, then stop working for minutes at a time. Luckily we had a hot spot with us, otherwise we might have complained.
— The light fixture over our sink did not work at all. Really annoying to have to squint and grope around for everything near the sink.
— You may notice that I said the staff were «helpful and friendly», but I did not use the word «professional». That’s because
A) at one point I witnessed a woman asking the gentlemen at the front desk if they had any creamer for her coffee because there wasn’t any at the self-​serve coffee table. Both guys looked at her like she was nuts, and one said, «Yeah, we’ve got creamer,» then both just stood there fidgeting. Guys. Go get the lady a creamer. It’s not a big deal.
B) Housekeeping cleaned our room very well, but for some mysterious reason did not throw out a plate of breakfast foods I’d brought back for my boyfriend. The partially-​eaten food had been sitting on the table all day, and when we returned that evening the room stank of stale eggs and ketchup. Is it because we couldn’t fit the large plate into the tiny waste bin? Sorry???
C) After a day of exploring Long Beach I approached the counter to ask for meal vouchers for breakfast the next day. The two guys had apparently just gotten their dinner delivered to them and were very excited about it. So excited that they started poking their food with their fingers, discussing it, sampling it, etc. with their backs to me, while I stood patiently at the counter waiting to be noticed. Once they saw me I got speedy service with a smile, and that’s definitely awesome and kudos for that. But everyone who’s ever worked in customer service knows: take your meals in the back. Don’t eat at the service counter. Don’t touch your food with your hands and then start serving customers. Always face the doorway so you’ll know right away if someone comes in. I’m sorry if this is nitpicking, but sometimes this stuff matters. Little things like this make a difference in whether or not people will pay to stay here again.
Overall it was a decent hotel for a night’s stay, but I think they’ll have to make some renovations and repairs in the near future if they want to keep charging that rate.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights. We had everything planned from Disneyland to Universal and everything in between. We both get pretty grossed out by hotels, but the first night we were there, the place looked clean enough for us not to be grossed out.
Second day, as we were getting ready to go to California Adventure, I noticed an ant crawling on my purse that I placed on the second bed that we weren’t using. Fine. Killed it. Went to the washroon and came back and saw an ant crawling on my boyfriend’s shirt. Fine killed it. Something kept telling me to come back and check the bed and yet again, saw an ant crawling on my shirt this time. Then it clicked in my head. wait a minute. why are there so many ants?! I checked and there was a whole swarm full by the mattress headboard. Then I noticed a single ant crawling on the bed that we had slept in. We notified the front desk and they sent someone to spray Raid by the both headboards. Like that was going to do anything. They asked us if we would like to switch rooms and of course, we agreed. They said that the room wouldn’t be ready for another two hours so we just went ahead and went to California Adventure and decided to switch rooms when we came back.
When we came back, the cleaning lady had cleaned up our room. We found a Slim Jim wrapper on the floor. The wrapper was probably from the previous people’s stay and that was what was probably drawing in the ants. One thing’s for sure, if they had found that, why didn’t they throw it out? They literally left it on the floor for us to see when we came back. It sucks that they transferred us from the first floor to the second floor because there were no other first floor rooms available.
When we got to the second room, they asked us to check to see if we like the room. We moved the mattress on the beds to check for ants and on one of the beds, a spider jumped out from the mattress. We killed that one. We said we’ll take the room, rather than staying in our old ant infested room. The second bed had nothing on it so we slept on that bed.
The next day, the cleaning lady had cleaned our room again. Of course, we did a mattress check again. The bed we slept on had a FREAKING CENTIPEDE that came out from that mattress. Now the «Spider Bed» had nothing on it that night so we slept on that one that night.
The next day, we found ants in the bathroom.
My boyfriend called the hotel manager and told him our situation about the ants the first night and he was nice enough not to charge us for one night. We tried to get him to compensate us for two nights, but he wouldn’t budge. Other than that, the breakfast was phenomenal and the waiters were SUPER nice and friendly. The staff was excellent as well.
However, bottom line is, if you can handle creepy crawlies, stay here because it’s a cheap hotel. Otherwise, I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I’ve never been so excited to check-​out and go home from a vacation ever in my life. This place literally ruined my vacation.

This was a very nice place. Old? So what?
Maybe I lucked out, but for just over $ 100 including tax and fees I got a «king bed» room which also had a mini-​bed in it, second floor. Frig and microwave. The bathroom was quite nice with a separate sink in the toilet/​bath/​shower area. I had a balcony with chairs overlooking the busy street and harbor. The breakfast is very nice and you sit in a real dining room overlooking the harbor.

As long as you know what you’re getting into, you’ll be fine!
No, it’s not modern by any standard, but so what?! I have been coming twice a year for 10 years now and absolutely nothing about the décor has changed… but that’s a good thing. I don’t care about eyewash.
For the good… the staff works incredibly hard to make you happy. EVERYTHING is VERY clean and would rival any 5 star hotel for cleanliness and serviceability and safety. It’s just old, but that’s not a crime.
I see the negative reviews, about how old it is. So! It’s surrounded by new and modern things. It’s like living in a time machine.
If you want to see new buildings and super modern rooms, head down the road about a mile and reach deep into your wallet!

Not the best customer service. Waited forever to get my room while A lot of people got theirs before me, makes no sense to me. after a 6 hour flight last thing I needed!

Visited my mom here while she was competing in a Dragon Boat Race Meet in Long Beach. My family and her were staying here. I will say that this is the worst Best Western I’ve been to.
It doesn’t feel like a Best Western either. The entire place was old and felt like it was built in the 60s and hasn’t really been updated at all. The most disturbing thing was I saw a maintenance guy use a plunger to hit the elevator up button while he was on the way to put it in storage. I can’t imagine what else goes on from seeing that.
Unfortunately from what I’ve seen and heard, it is better than the alternatives at that price.

It’s a Best Western folks so cut the crap and stop pretending you checked into the Four Seasons. We are Unilocalers and do not rate hotels on a Diamond scale. The staff is friendly and helpful, the parking is ample and free, breakfast complimentary, large room w/​king bed and walkout patio, good housekeeping, comfortable bed. Three night stay — looking forward to hanging by the pool. Price is right!

My husband and I stayed here for one night on July 4^th. I picked the hotel for its proximity to all of the activities we wanted to do while we were there, which was primarily laying on the beach, eating seafood, and exploring Downtown Long Beach.
The hotel is situated directly on the PCH. You are driving distance from Long Beach, Huntington Beach, and Sunset Beach. You are also within biking distance to Seal Beach if you wanted to do that.
It is O-​L-​D. Oooooooold. This place has not been remodeled for a long time. The front desk is interesting, and they still use a card system to keep track of guests, but they do have a computer as well. Interesting. I experienced no issues checking in. I requested a room with a view of the marina, and (kind of) got it. But it was mostly a view of the PCH. There are small balconies on each room. We were on the 3^rd floor.
Furniture is old, carpet is old, bathroom sink, shower, etc is OLD. You get the idea.
Just don’t come here expecting an amazing experience — it is not.
They did give us free continental breakfast in the morning and the hotel was quiet and clean enough for me to not be grossed out.
I doubt I’d stay here again though, even if it was very cheap.
