Starting her career in 1988 with Red Lion Hotels, Sheri Blackwood has built a powerful and impacting profile within her 24 years of hospitality experience. From entry level positions to the property’s General Manager, Sheri Blackwood has helped to build the success across both three and four star diamond hotels that include Le Meridian/​Sutton Place Hotel of Newport Beach to the GuestHouse Hotel in Long Beach and the Atrium Hotel in Irvine and finally in the introduction of Hotel CURRENT.

Joining VenQuest in 2000, Sheri Blackwood has grown and mastered the company’s need for transition, currently leading the corporation’s journey in renovation. I’ve stayed at Hotel Current several times while in LB on business. Friendly staff, reasonable breakfast, good prices, and clean, smartly decorated rooms. The feel is similar to Hotel W, but more approachable, affordable, and peaceful.

This is a fine place to stay, but I gave it a one star because nobody reads two or three star reviews. The reason for the one star is they underhandedly charge you five dollars for a tiny box of water that they provide for you in the room. Although the number 5 is clearly written on the bottom of the box it looks as if it’s part of the design and not the price. Plus, they turn the side that has the number 5 on it in such a way that it’s deceiving and not clearly recognizable as a price. I spoke with the manager, and asked for a refund for the unused bottles in my possession, but he only offered a 50% refund. It’s obvious they know it’s a deception, but they expect nobody will notice until they check their credit card statement at the end of the month, and by that time very few will call back and argue the charges. And then he insulted me by asking me if I had used a portion of them and refilled the boxes. I stayed at that hotel for several days and used the first couple of boxes, but I didn’t ask him for a refund for those. I just accepted those as a lesson learned. It’s intentionally deceptive, and bad business practice. Other than that it’s a suitable place to stay. Plusses: most of the rooms and bathrooms are spacious, they have refrigerators, pool is fabulous, and the parking isn’t half bad. Minuses: wall are thin, and smokers stand directly in front of rooms and windows to smoke, so all the smoke enters through, either the open windows or, fan unit, and they do not have microwaves (even though there seems to be an empty cabinet to hold one.)
Update: I checked my account to confirm the charges from the hotel. I’m still very disappointed they still only refunded me 50% for the unused water. I changed it to 2 stars. I would stay here again, but now I know to not touch the boxed water on the bureau.

Stayed overnight to get on our first Cruise out of Long Beach. Price was right for a king one night, private balcony.
Free shuttle to/​from Port of Long Beach. Wait was ~30 mins each way. We were not happy about that as it was a $ 30 upgrade for the cruise package. Waiting 15mins would have been fine
Continental breakfast had a good spread but like any other continental breakfast.
Coffee ends with end of breakfast at 9:30am, no coffee service all day like other hotels

Can’t say enough about how kind and professional Wayne and his staff were… We safely left our car here while on a cruise, and were ferried back and forth by 2 different van drivers, both polite and knowledgeable about the area and our cruise process. We will definitely be staying here every time we’re in Long Beach!

This hotel is merp for the price you pay (3 day stay cost me ~500). The rooms are not nearly as nice as they are in the photos so I felt a little cheated when we got there.
I can say however that it is cleaner than a motel, and the service is nice and friendly so that’s always a plus. Another plus is that it’s easy to find and get to, not too far from major freeways, and not in the scary area of long beach. The breakfast was actually much better than most other hotels I’ve been to (that pretty much just have coffee and cheap pastries) they at least had sausage and BYO waffles plus yogurt and whatnot.
The major downsides for me were the price, the fact that the water practically dribbled out of the shower head, and how thin the walls were. I only recommend this place if they lower the prices or you catch a deal.

The pool area is beautiful and a great bonus to know there is a restaurant connected to the property.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay here! The hotel is beautiful! The modern style and colors they have all around the lobby and hotel rooms are beautiful! The very nice man, Wayne I believe is his name was great and even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolates for my birthday! We will definitely book a room here again when staying in Long Beach! I highly recommend it!

My friend and I stayed here a few months ago. Our overall experience was great! The room and hotel itself was very clean and nice especially for the price. The only complaint we have is that our mattress was very uncomfortable. It seemed to kind of fold in in the middle instead of being completely flat. It was very unusual.

Not a bad hotel, but too expensive for what it is.
The «healthy» continental breakfast is: low-​quality eggs, waffles from a press (not bad), toast and sugary oatmeal.
No fitness center.
Rooms are mediocre, need to be updated. Low water pressure in the shower, etc., toilet seat needs to be replaced, etc. We paid $ 200 a night for our room. Should have been closer to $ 100 – 120. I wouldn’t stay there unless you get a deal.

Beware, do not purchase deal on Unilocal!I purchased coupon on Unilocal for the discount. Called hotel ahead of time to make sure they will honor which they said they would. Upon check-​in, i gave them the Unilocal deal redemption code, everything seems fine. A day after checking out i noticed the hotel charged my credit card again for the full amount. So i was charged once by Unilocal then again by the hotel for the one night stay. I will not purchase anymore deal on Unilocal and will not be staying at hotel current ever again!!!

The renovations and hip décor make the small hotel feel fancy and current. Ha, pun intended! Their breakfast is great for a continental and the pool area is gorgeous and lush, especially with the cabanas and fires at night! We really were amazed at the price we got for the room and not to mention the location. It’s situated close to the beaches, airport, and theme parks.
Only cons is parking is a bit compact, no hot tub at the pool, and our door had some spacing that made us think that back in the day the door had maybe been kicked in. But our stay was nice and we couldn’t complain!

Nice little hotel on PCH. Reminds me of a nicely revamped motel. Location is ideal as it is close to everything! They offer shuttle service to anywhere within 5 miles. The room was small, but cute and quaint. We were there for just one night so it was perfect. We got the king room with the spa tub. I planned to use it the next morning, but something strange happened and the dirty water backed up from the pipes. They ended up charging me the rate for a regular room w/​o a spa tub without difficulty. The pool was my favorite part! Clean + enough lounge seating. Definitely coming back for a staycation!

My family decided to stay here for our weekend getaway to California. On their Unilocal page they write «we love Unilocalers» and so we had to give them a try, especially with their Unilocal discount.
There were plenty of pros and plenty of cons so hard to rate over a 3-​star. I’ll just list them all and you decide which outweighs the other:
Pros:
1) Location — Right next to Seal Beach, just 5 minutes from the beach 20 min from Disneyland makes this a prime hotel spot.
2) Price — Unilocal deal was $ 119 a night. For the location it was very good. Other hotels nearby are in the 200+ range. With that said, $ 50 incidental fee is held on check-​in and returned on check-​out.
3) Breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties and links, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, breads, muffins, bagels, waffle maker. Orange juice, milk, and water served. Breakfast burritos also available for microwave.
4) Nice amenities– Nice, clean, large pool area. Apparently there’s a fitness center but I never tried it. Room service. Free laundry services. Free wifi (had difficulty connecting though)
5) Modern room feel, flatscreen tv w/​cable, nice bathroom w/​big sink and overhead standing shower (no tub) shampoo and body gel dispensers.
6) Free late check-​out with Unilocal check in.
Cons:
1) Parking– While there were plenty of parking spots, they were tight. And if you are placed in the front building (rooms 208, 209, 210 ect.) like we were which is next to the hotel lobby there is no parking at all. At one point we had to park far in the back because it was full anywhere adjacent to our room section.

2) No weatherstrip under the front doors. There’s literally a gap underneath your hotel front door and the outside. Risk of bugs getting in with ease. We placed a towel to block the door. (We shouldn’t have to do this) Pro tip: 2nd floor rooms should have less bugs. The only thing we saw from our 2nd floor room was a fruit fly when we first checked in.
3) While the rooms were remodeled and have a ‘modern’ feel, you still see the age. Some of the paint near the edges of the rooms were cracked. The A/​C looks really old but it works well. One of the overhead lights in the shower was popped out and I had to push it back in. Smudges on the wall and door.
4) The Fun room gallery activity room wasn’t open at the time we were there.
5) Our « Unilocal» upgraded room wasn’t too much of an upgrade. Just an added balcony facing the golf course. No pool view rooms available on a Sunday.
6) All rooms should have the hardwood floors. Or we should have been given a choice to have them. I think it’s random and based on availability. Much nicer looking than their carpeted floors.
I’d consider staying here again if traveling specifically to the beach or the Long Beach area. Hopefully, by the next time we return, most of the negatives will be improved on.

Nice little hotel/​motel, booked online for 1 night stay (3 stars). Arrived very late, and the place was sold out, king rooms had been handed out. Friendly desk agent quickly offered a suite and his personal parking space right up front since it was a full house! Desk agent was so incredibly helpful, in spite of being quite busy for the late hour — impressive! (5 stars go out to him for his thoughtful and attentive nature!)
Our suite was clean and comfortable. We came in late and left early, so we missed trying the pool and breakfast.

Very cute place, modern décor… but it looks like the maids are lazy and don’t change linens or clean the rooms properly. Disgusting! Blood stained sheets and a note left in our bed from previous guest. Kevin was very helpful and friendly and came up to our room immediately to change the bedding
