Run of the River Inn and Refuge

This is a do not miss experience! The rooms are all uniquely themed and it’s the attention to the tiniest details that make the stay so comfortable. But, the homemade breakfasts are unbelievable. Fresh fruits, fresh yogurt and a variety of daily entrees that are absolutely delicious. Writing this while at our fourth stay, and we truly can’t wait to come back.

When my husband I lived in Washington we had the pleasure of staying at Run of the River twice. On our first visit we stayed in «Hit The Trail» and the second time we stayed in «Enchantments». Both rooms were amazing and I can’t imagine any room would be a bad choice. We travel fairly often and have yet to find any accommodations that live up to the standard set by Run of The River.
I was leery of the bed and breakfast concept before we stayed here because I always imagined some awkward social situation that takes place in a house that looks like my grandmother’s house. This inn is none of the above! Each room has a private entrance and private balcony area so that you can come and go and relax in an uninterrupted manner. There are opportunities for socializing for those that come to B&B’s for that reason. Each afternoon they have refreshments and a dessert in the common area. Each morning there is a five course breakfast served with every guest being welcome to attend. Both times we stayed all of the guests came to breakfast and it wasn’t awkward in the least. Especially when you are being served such a delicious meal.
The couple that owns the inn are very friendly and clearly take pride in every detail. They provide a very personalized experience. There isn’t a single detail missed. I won’t go into the details because part of the fun is discovering the details with your stay. The location gives the feel of being in the middle of nowhere when you are really minutes from the restaurants and shopping of Leavenworth.

Run of the river is such a calming and beautiful place. The rooms, scenery, and energy is all so very beautiful and welcoming. The staff is very personable and nice and breakfast in the morning was so delicious! (thank you for being vegetarian friendly btw!) they also have bikes if you want to explore the area on your own, and some cute dogs that are super friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to spoil themselves and get away. I don’t think I will stay at any other place on my trips to leavenworth.

Beautiful location, comfy furnishings and 5 course gourmet breakfast are the trademarks of this gracious Inn. Our most recent stay was in the Northwest Suite. Like all the choices, it features a comfy king bed, jacuzzi, leather furniture, fireplace, frig, walk in shower, heated floors, cable TV and free wifi.
There are many activities to enjoy in Leavenworth, but the room is so inviting, we scarcely left it. The owners provide scented salts for the jacuzzi, candles, binoculars to watch the wild life and an evening dessert treat. Enjoy!

Most beautiful and relaxing getaway ever! Stay here for tonight’s Jana was so welcoming and was the perfect getaway for us both. The room was well appointed with a Jacuzzi tub and a deck looking out over the river and the woods and a king bed and fireplace just perfectly relaxing! Definitely coming back again!

We stayed in the ‘Enchantments Suite’ one refreshing rainy ‘Autumn’ weekend & we were indeed, enchanted. We will definitely come back to experience the beauty of this place in the winter, summer & springtime. I truly love the serenity of this Inn, the delicious breakfasts, the accommodating staff members, the very private deck (s), the super relaxing rain showers, Jacuzzi, fireplace & the comfortable /​spacious bed full of pillows in the room with a ‘gorgeous’ view !
I had so much fun squirrel & bird-​watching as well ! awesome! !!

We can’t say enough good about this place, the people, and the experience. We stayed in the Great Northwest room, and it is outstanding. Beautifully furnished and decorated with very high quality items. Fireplace, big deck overlooking the refuge, excellent bed, great rain shower, it’s just an outstanding room. Jan and Steve were very friendly and great to talk with about the area and other things. If you’re in Leavenworth or nearby, this is the place to stay!

Terrible stay and unreceptive manager. We were very eager to leave as the guest next door had the tv blaring all night.

We spent two wonderful nights at Run of the River Inn and Refuge. Everything was perfect. Our hostess was very gracious, helpful, and knowledgeable. Breakfast was amazing both mornings, and the accommodations were rustic, woodsy, outdoorsy and beautiful… definitely a do over!

Hate to even leave a review about this place because it’s a hidden gem, and if too many people come here it will make getting reservations even more difficult. Been here a couple of times and it’s always been excellent.

This was our first stay at Run Of The River and it most certainly will not be our last! The room was incredible and the view was spectacular! It felt luxurious and comfortable and had lots of «special touches» that made it nothing short of fabulous! The breakfast was delicious and more than enough food to get you well through the day. If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful, lovely setting then this is the place to go. Jan and Steve have done an amazing job of making Run Of The River a very special place. We can’t wait to go back.

We stayed in Enchantments for a night. The room and the view were amazing. The furniture was high-​quality wood and leather and gave it a nice lodge feel. The breakfast was HUGE, I barely ate for the rest of the day. Heated floors, overhead rain-​style shower head, fireplace, loft… This place was a dream. Definitely coming back.

Lovely quiet lodge. We had an amazing time and enjoyed a great bike ride! Breakfast was not great, but I think they had a new cook. Potatoes underdone, eggs not great — but that was the only unfortunate part of our stay. The dogs are adorable! Enjoy!

We went back a second time and Run of the River was just as heavenly as it was when we first stayed. If we could live there we would! We will always go back when we can, and I will always recommend this particular B&B to all my family and friends=)

We enjoyed coming last winter for our wedding anniversary that we decided to make it a tradition and stayed 3 nights this last week to enjoy not only our special day, but the beautiful town of Leavenworth and its holiday lights. We stayed in the ‘Hit The Trail’ suite which is the top right and overlooks the refuge and mountains to the west and had a nice layer of snow over everything making it just picturesque.
3 fantastic breakfasts which included all homemade or locally grown produce such as pumpkin pancakes, apple flan, various flavors of yogurt with granola and real fruit, baked apples. you get the idea. hearty and delicious! The attention to detail and seasonal decorations continue to impress and makes coming something to really look forward too. Jan’s presence on our final morning completed the enjoyment of coming there and Fanny was bounding through the snow as we were (sadly) pulling away.
We already booked another 3 nights for next December!

Lovely place, exquisite country style and, pretty good breakfast.
Brilliant cleanness, robes de charme in the room, mantles for the fireplace armchairs. Lots of great details in the room like binoculars and a day rucksack. Cute details like a brown paper instead of a rubbish plastic bag… many antiques anyplace and, a bird feeder in the room’s balcony.
Be alert of the lady who serves breakfast, do not let her temper ruin your morning. I believe she’s the owner and when your request does not suit her taste or it is not at the right time, she will let you know. It was uncomfortable for us.

You won’t like it here. You should probably stay somewhere else.
You won’t like the location. It’s way too secluded and picturesque. You won’t like sitting in the middle of a location seemingly birthed as the lovechild of an Ansel Adams photograph and Norman Rockwell painting. It gets annoying after awhile looking out over the riverbed watching every kind of wildlife imaginable frolicking peacefully with the mountains looming in the distance. You’d probably prefer one of the nettlesome hotels on Front Street, with their ubiquitous German décor and non-​stop oompah music.
You won’t like the hearty, healthy, freshly-​prepared breakfasts. It’s way too down to earth and free of all pretense. The freshly baked warm winter fruit compotes, the granola-​stuffed pumpkin pancakes, the fruit juices squeezed moments before they’re poured into your glass and the handmade scones are much too understated. You would prefer the planet-​sized pancakes and bottled OJ served by the faux Fraus in the flapjack house in town.
You really won’t like Steve and Jan, what with all the personal attention they give and all. The fact that they will remember your name and face a few minutes into your first visit and still remember you months (or years) later when you return. You’ll hate Fanny the Innkeeper Dog, and the top of the line service from every member of staff. Most will prefer the plastic, sterile, impersonal interactions at the chains up the hill or better yet down in Wenatchee.
We understand, really. Those of us who return time after time after time and scramble to grab up rooms– any room, any day, any time– when we can get back to this place understand that it’s not for everyone. We’re not judging you on any level. But do yourselves a favor– stay elsewhere. That way when my wife and I come back for the fourth time in three years in March, we won’t have any trouble getting a room.
It’s better that way.

We stayed in the Kingfisher Suite for three nights and had a wonderful experience. Our suite had a very large private deck facing the river and it was my favorite place to be during our stay. It has a porch swing where you can site and enjoy the view and a table with chairs where we enjoyed a few games of Carcassonne. The room was kept cool, which was important since our early spring trip had beautiful 90 degree weather. The rain shower was refreshing, the jetted tub was relaxing and the bed was super comfy.
Breakfast: Is served at 9am and is family style with the other guess that are staying at the Inn. Breakfast was always delicious and included fresh fruit, yogurt, a main dish (usually egg based, but our last morning we also had pancakes), and then a breakfast dessert. We had a lot of great conversation with other guests and with Jan. The main room also overlooks the river and has a fabulous view.
We’ve already talked about another trip to Run of the River, this time maybe in the winter.

I stayed here about 2 years ago and it was amazing! If you and your partner need a romantic getaway this is the spot!
It’s nestled just out of the way so you’re removed from the hustle and bustle (and all the other crazy tourists/​vacationers) but only a 5 minute drive or short bike ride into down town.
The grounds are well kept and the building looks great. Our room was spectacular. The bed was huge and comfy, the bathroom large enough to accommodate both of us getting ready at the same time with a nice shower, there was a hot tub in the room and there was a decent TV to be used during rest periods. We had a private deck and a brilliant view of the river and a little forest. If you want to snuggle on the swing bench and watch the water or birds/​animals do their thing you can easily do so. There is also a private outdoor hot tub. If you haven’t caught on yet… this place is for couples and it really pulls it off.
The owners (their names escape me at the moment) are kind and friendly people. They were congenial and helpful; willing to do what they could to make our stay the best possible.
Included with your stay is homemade breakfast served at a group table (you don’t have to join in if you don’t want but it’s fun to chat with the other guests). There are bikes and helmets provided if you want to explore the surrounding area which I highly suggest you do.
Our first afternoon here I was taking a shower to unwind (it had been a long drive to Leavenworth) and the water went out for about 15 minutes. It was no big deal but a bit confusing. Before we could even call the front desk to let them know there was an issue (again, I was not upset but wanted them to know something was wrong) the owner was at our door, apologizing for bothering us at our room and also for the issue with the water. He explained the problem and that it would be fixed momentarily. No biggie. Come check out time I find out that they discounted our second day roughly 25% off (which is a substantial discount considering the small «issue»). They went above and beyond to make sure our experience there was nothing short of amazing and they came through with flying colors.
I’ve recommended this place to anyone who sounds like they would be interested or in need of a romantic holiday away. I’m looking forward to going back myself and wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Leavenworth.

My wife and I stayed at Run of the River in June and loved it! It was a beautiful and quite retreat. The view from our room of Icicle Ride was spectacular.
The food for breakfast was exceptionally delicious. I normally do not care for B&Bs as the more social nature of the experience (shared meals) is not my cup of tea but I can recommend Run of the River and will becoming back if lucky enough to find the time.
