St. Rose Dominican Hospitals – San Martin Campus

This hospital looks nice and the surgeon was good but that’s about the only positive things I can say about this place. It lacks organization causing patient care to horribly suffer. Following a scheduled outpatient surgery the doctors decided to admit in order to control pain based on preexisting conditions and manage pain medications. While waiting for a room we heard a surgeon tell the person recovering next door that they made a mistake during the surgery. Not exactly what you want to hear after you were sliced open in the same hospital a few hours prior. Once admitted and moved to a room it was like all the information, medications, & pre/​post op instructions from the surgeon were disregarded. It was almost 24 hours of excruciating pain with a head nurse that claimed he wasn’t allowed to given the ordered medication. Also, no doctor was on duty for the area my room was in. The nurse was phoning a doctor and not relaying the information in the notes/​orders. Apparently the only doctor available in this hospital overnight is in the ER and they aren’t available to leave and see patients in the building. The best way to describe this place is that the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

This review is for the emergency room. I had some symptoms of an unusual illness on a Saturday, and of course all of the reputable specialists were closed for the weekend. So, I went to the San Martin emergency room to get treatment.
My past experiences with emergency rooms have not been good (chaos, crowding, really sick people), so I was pleasantly surprised to find the waiting room empty. I was checked in and taken to an examination room within 10 minutes of arriving. The receptionist later said I’d gotten there at a good time.
Nurse Michael was polite and efficient. I only waited a few minutes before Dr. Taylor arrived. She asked me some questions and came to her diagnosis quickly. They immediately sent my prescription to my pharmacy and I was able to pick it up right after my appointment. My experience was as painless as it possibly could be, and I’m very satisfied with the level of care I received. I highly recommend this emergency room.

My stay in the L&D department couldn’t have been better. First off, I arrived for induction and was promptly given my room and got hooked up to the IV. I’ve always had an issue with needles (extreme phobia, lol), and while the first nurse had trouble finding my vein, the nurse that came to help her was quick and gentle. My boyfriend, parents, brothers, mother in law, and brother in law were allowed in the room with me while I was in labor, and the nurses treated them all with the same kindness and hospitality that I was treated with. All nurses who checked how dilated i was were extremely gentle and careful, and continuously checked in on me, offering me ice chips. When i asked for the epidural after 14 hours, I only had to wait about 15 minutes before the man came in to give it to me (i wish i remembered his name). He was very sweet and reassuring once he noticed how nervous the needle made me. Once I was fully dilated, they allowed me 3 people in the room (my boyfriend, mom, and mil) and walked them through my drs instructions and rules. While I was pushing, two nurses were on my left side offering words of encouragement and praise… and once my daughter was out, told me how proud they were of me… just what I needed after 38 hours of labor!
I’d like to especially thank the head nurse, who’s name i believe is Angie? I wish I could remember. She was beyond amazing. She was extremely encouraging, and was there to reassure me after every tear I shed. Angie checked up on me every few hours after birth, and showed me how to use the restroom and care for my episiotomy stitches… she even showed me a few tricks in how to calm my fussy daughter. Angie truly went above and beyond. I honestly missed her so much once I was discharged! Thank you so much, angie!

Pre-​op appointment today …
45 minute wait for the lady who did the paperwork. She was polite enough but I was very uncomfortable signing the electronic pad instead of an actual paper. She told me what the documents were I was signing for and said I could have copies if I want them but most people dont. There was no opportunity to read anything I was signing for. She said «it’s all here in this book» but the information didn’t jump from the book into my head. It just doesn’t feel right to have someone sign a blank screen similar to a credit card terminal for something as important as surgery. All the legalese in the world won’t hold up in court if not shown to a signer so they may as well forfeit signatures all together.
Then back to testing waiting room. 5 minute wait for blood draw. Not bad.
3 minute wait for x-​ray. Very good. But I was not provided a gown for a chest x-​ray. I was told to take my bra off and leave my shirt on and she didn’t leave the room. I was very uncomfortable trying to have a conversation while flipping around wriggling out of my bra. She was planning on standing there watching me dress afterward but I asked her to step out and she did.
About a 5 minute wait to see the admitting nurse. «Have you ever had a …» Uh that’s what I’m here for. «Oh.» Followed by equally dumb questions that had already been answered on the form laying right in front of him. Cockroaches in his office and a glue board full of them in the corner. Not what I’d call clean and inviting. He left the door cracked open for those personal questions and another employee came in talking and eventually noticed me there and said sorry.
Overall everyone was crazy friendly. Like too happy and too friendly. It felt like they were trying to force sick people to pretend they weren’t.
It was a fairly quick and efficient process even with the very repetitive questioning.
But the lack of privacy and the cockroaches left me really concerned about checking in for surgery in a couple days…

Almost a five star but the wheels fell off the wagon at the very end of our stay. Initially, the staff was awesome, friendly, and fast. After we were finished, we ended up waiting around for over an hour just to get our prescription. It was like they forgot about us.

This place was awesome. Was in and out of the ER in 30 mins. Marsha in admission, Summer APN, Patrick APN, Dr Laslery all wonderful people and helped calm a very bad case of anxiety and paranoia. Thank you for helping me in my time of need especially as I am new to Vegas. This is the only Hospital I’ll go to. I been to plenty in LA and this one beats them ALL hands down.

Update: I recently was back and received top notch and extremely pleasant care. My first review was during a holiday stay. Due to lack of not wanting to be a patient, and what I believe to be lack of communication and that some of my providers didn’t want to be there as well lead to my bad experience. I have nothing but great things to say this time, communication was great and care provided was excellent. We all have bad days and should not be the judgement of a great business. I look forward to letting everyone take care of me and my family if ever the need should arise again. So glad I gave this hospital a second chance, I was previously at another bad hospital ER before coming here this visit and I’m thankful I ended up here once again. Thank you all for all you do for our community.

Great service here !!! Everyone so friendly and nice !!! One person who I would love to thank is Britney RN from the emergency room !! I parked my car right outside of the emergency entrance, I left my mom waiting while I checked her in and also grabbed a wheel chair to bring her in the ER. While I was checking her in Britney asked if she needed to be brought inside, I quickly responded yes ! I will get her in a minute. I just seen her walk outside with her back pack (she was already clocked out for her shift) and next thing you know I see her walking in with my mother in the wheelchair and also with my keys !!! This made me feel like there is still people out there that care for people… Thank you very very much Britney !!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THIS MEDICAL FIELD

I don’t like hospitals. In fact I do my best to avoid them if I can. I chose St. Rose because the other choice that I had wasn’t that great from my experience. Everyone told me St. Rose was awesome so I scheduled my c section there without even taking a tour first.
My doctor didn’t tell me to do pre admitting paperwork so do that if you have a scheduled surgery. We were in Admitting for a good 15 minutes but after that it was easy breezy. They knew I was coming in and they had my room all ready. By the time I got up to the labor and delivery floor though it was 6 am and you know the nurses change shifts at 7. So basically we had 3 nurses helping us with the paperwork and then by 7 I had a new nurse. Everyone introduced themselves which was nice and I met everyone who was going to be in the OR with me. Everything went smoothly and the anesthesiologist listened to my concerns and I didn’t throw up once in the OR this time around.
St. Rose is big on breastfeeding and skin to skin so if that’s not your cup of tea then probably choose a different hospital. There’s a bonding hour right after birth well asap if you have a c section like me. Unfortunately my stay here was longer than expected. I did have my favorite nurse… Maggie. She was my night nurse and she was awesome. My night nurses were definitely better than the day ones. Since I was there for awhile I got to know the NICU nurses. I have to say that no one wants their baby in the NICU but these ladies are awesome especially Asterid and Cielo. Those two took such good care of my baby and I appreciate it so much. In fact, I wanted to bring Cielo home with me because she has that magic baby’s do what she tells them to do touch.
In the end, since I was in the NICU every few hours my nurses stopped coming to see me. I had to ask for things and to get water/​snacks you have to ask the nurse. Overall, facilities were clean and everyone was fairly great. Housekeeping came every morning. The food is horrible but luckily there’s options around outside of the hospital. I would definitely come back if I ever had to do another procedure.

I’ve had family here on multiple Occasions and currently have a dear friend here unfortunately for weeks now and this hospital has the most compassionate, caring, knowledgable and friendliest staff, it’s a clean facility and you can visit ²⁴⁄₇. I love that it’s a smaller hospital and never understaffed. The dining area isn’t that great but with food delivery options available and fast food pick up to choose from close by it doesn’t affect my star rating. It’s to bad the other hospitals didn’t take the time to care about their patients and their family members the way St. Rose Staff members treat theirs, the level of care they give makes you feel like the same they would give their own family member wether it’s housekeeping, therapy, nurses, aides, food services, technicians, phlebotomist, doctors, even the guys who come in for repairs. I feel like I’ve crossed paths with them all and held a conversation and they’re all truly compassionate staff. They truly are a class act! Much respect and appreciation to St. Rose and all their staff.

This review is one that wish no one needs to write in life trip to the ER. My last experience years ago to UMC talk about awful one. So going to St Rose ER is literally going from ghetto of UMC to high class. St Rose everything is so much cleaner, the lounge area has nicer couches or chairs relax while waiting, more places to sit down, not as cold (might be unfair since been years but felt like popsicle at UMC) inside, the wait time is much faster, and more organized. The biggest difference in my experience is EVERYONE in the whole process from check in, every nurse, and two doctors. Not sure her role she was walking around making sure I was taking care of and asking if need anything (she notice since got diagnosis with Bells Palsy one eye bother me and gave me box of tissue cause needed it) while waited for the doctor. The staff handling the paperwork was nothing but awesome. Friendly, helpful, caring, and help calm me down just being admitted in the ER. At UMC never never felt that once in the whole process just another john doe rather then someone with name.
I need give shout out. The admittance department talk about great people. This whole ER visit just happen at the end was thinking need go UMC. They told me that culinary insurance they do not accept. The lady talked with made me come to my senses. It emergency and who knows what could happen if I went to another hospital like UMC. Am on property no matter insurance I have emergency they have to admit me. She was kind enough take me down to the ER calm be down cause like mention earlier going ER never great feeling in life. Not sure maybe since she was with me but I went from signing in right to the back. The wait time was literally seconds. Not to say the ER that fast because reality sure wait time but nothing compare to the times get at UMC. She even asked if stop by later check up on me. The staff or all the ones I experience have open hearts and made my ER experience great one. Tough since any ER visit is never good one. Thank U.

I’m not going to pore through all the details of why I was at St. Rose Dominican Hospital. I will say that I went to the ER for a situation and wound up being admitted to the hospital and staying there for a few days.
— I have never had a better experience in an ER in my life! Not that I make a habit of visiting such places, but the place only had a handful of people there when I arrived, so I was given swift treatment, due to my condition at the time. Usually you can expect HOURS long wait for most things when you go to the ER… I was very fortunate that I was seen immediately this time.
— EVERY person I encountered… nurses, doctors, specialists… were all so incredibly kind, caring, and sympathetic. I always felt like I was in good hands. Every time something had to be done/​administered, everything was explained to me in great detail, while always checking in on my comfort level.
For what it was, the people here made the experience about as well as could ever be reasonably expected. I am very grateful to the staff at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals — San Martin Campus for all that they did for me during my stay here.
I feel fortunate to have this hospital nearby if I am ever in need of their services again.

Just had the best surprise of my day after ending up here at the ER earlier today. My wife and I walked in to find an empty waiting room and the Dr. and Nurse literally waiting at the door as we were registering at the front desk. Dr. Daniel McBride immediately greeted us and introduced himself taking us immediately over to the exam room. He was very kind and comforting during a stressful situation. The nurse was very pleasant as well but don’t recall her name. Overall, we were in and out of the hospital within 30 mins time which was absolutely incredible. Highly recommend this facility as it was a very positive experience all around considering the circumstances. Job well done at San Martin

I’ve been to this hospital a couple of times over the past few years. The first time for a surgery this time my son had to get his hand and his neck x-​rayed due to a car accident.
I would just like to say the staff, the nurses & the doctors everyone I’ve come in contact with is so nice.
When I had to stay for my surgery the food was excellent. Hopefully I’ll never have to go to the hospital again but if I do this is where I want to come.

This review is based on an ER visit on Monday, May 11^th.
My daughter has had a cough for about 2 weeks, when I came home from work Monday, I noticed she was wheezing and seemed like she was struggling to breathe. Although she was quite active and said she was fine, we didn’t want to take a chance. Around 8:30 PM I looked up St. Rose’s website and found out they have «InQuicker» — an online ER waiting service where you can choose a time that’s convenient for you to be seen. Five minutes after choosing a designated time, I received a call from a Registered Nurse confirming appointment and verifying information.
Upon getting there, we were checked in right away and was immediately called in to check my daughters vitals. The ER doctor said it’s more of a crackling noise rather than wheezing and hoped it wasn’t pneumonia. She ordered a chest x-​ray. We were approached by a kind faced gentleman who introduced himself as Frank, the x-​ray technician. Let me tell how awesome this guy is! He led us thru the hallway towards the x-​ray room talking to our daughter the whole time, asking her all sorts of silly questions to make her feel comfortable. Once inside, he then explained to the little one where she was and that he was going to take a picture of her with his million dollar camera, not the ordinary kind but promised her one gasp worthy image. He then tells her to give him the biggest smile she could muster, which she did hahaha. After the image was taken Frank gave it to her to carry to the viewing area, he then asked her to be his assistant by pushing the buttons and shows her the image of her skeleton: shoulders, ribs and lungs. She was so amazed by the whole process and in the end asked where her smile went lol. In my 15+ years in the medical field, I have rarely seen the kind of dedication, patience and kindness this guy exemplified. It is nice to know that there are still people that truly care and really know the meaning of great patient care. Their slogan strongly emphasizes Humankindness, Frank was an epitome of that.
After the x-​ray we were taken to one of the rooms where nurse Andrea took very good care of her, giving her a breathing treatment and some other medicine. They even have a dinosaur mask for children! The entire process from check in to checking out took a total of one hour, to me that was unheard of, in the ER most especially. Mad respect to the staff of St. Rose for doing what you do, they really took the stress out from the parents and did everything they could to make their 4 year old patient comfortable given the circumstance. We are so impressed with the quality of care we received, my husband said we have not experienced such stellar service not even from a 5 star hotel hahaha.

I had to come here for a few specialized tests. This is the hospital my family doc is associated with, and on short notice I couldn’t get an appointment at a facility closer to my house. She was able to schedule it here, so I shlepped from North Summerlin. It wasn’t really a long ride, thanks to the 215 and my propensity to drive like a NYC cab driver.
If I had just been reviewing Admissions, this would have been a two-​star review. That was not an uplifting experience. First, no one told me to get there half an hour earlier than my scheduled test. That is, not until I got a call from one of the techs who was going to be involved in my testing, about an hour before I was supposed to leave for the hospital. Anyone who knows me knows that a) I am not a morning person, and b) I don’t move to get dressed and out until I’ve had two Venti Starbucks coffees and a completed NY Times crossword. But I was prevented from having any caffeine after midnight the night before, so yes, I didn’t arrive precisely half an hour before my test. I’m surprised I got there at all.
Like my experience with Admissions at Mountain View a couple of months ago, there was only one person working a desk there. And she had just started checking someone in. So I waited. And waited. Till long after that extra half hour passed. Till my husband got up and started kicking ass. And then I was good to go. I’m just glad the techs didn’t cancel my tests!
There were a number of different technicians involved in my tests. Each one of them — Maribel, Amanda, and Julia, were terrific. They explained every little detail, and made sure I was comfortable, and were extremely competent. I couldn’t have asked for a better staff experience.
If I ever have to go back to San Martin, I won’t hesitate. And since they’ll already have all my information on file, my experience with Admissions hopefully will be shorter.

Hospital /​nurses are great, doctors are non existent and no communication between doctor and hospital, kind of like the whisper game. Say one thing at the beginning and and totally different at the end.
Again hospital and nurses are spot on!

Staff is super friendly, very clean and nicely organized ER. A lot better than UMC. Not ghetto, unless you get shot or stabbed check out this place first. Cafeteria had a good selection of food, there was plenty of parking close to the ER doors do no trouble there. We had three of us visiting auntie and there policy is only two at a time, security was very friendly in conveying the rules to us and let us stay a little longer. One of the good hospitals in Vegas considering the reputatuon our town has as fat as medical care.

Rewind to 11:00 PM on 4÷7÷14. I was driving back to work from Southern Hills hospital when my side began to feel strange.
At 11:30, as I’m driving home, I’m not so sure I can make it. My side, my appendix, I have no clue, feels like the worst pain I’ve ever had in my life.
I get home, and somehow crawl to my bathroom because I am doubled over in pain. I have no idea what is going on. I promptly vomit multiple times. I know Niyen I. has had his appendix out, so I text him, in between screams, for a possible confirmation of what I suspect is my appendix bursting.
Niyen tells me he’s on his way to come get me to take me to the hospital. I crawl to my bedroom to get a piece of paper where I start scribbling down all of my personal information, regular physician, everything I could possibly think of in case I passed out so that Niyen would have the information to give to the doctor.
Niyen got to my house around 12:20AM, got me into the car and I directed him to go here as this was the absolute closest hospital to me. Plus, I was too embarrassed to go to Southern Hills seeing as I had walked through their ER not even 90 minutes prior like a functioning human being.
Once we got into the ER waiting room at about 12:30−45, the first thing the receptionist had me do was start signing things. It’s a good thing I wasn’t shot or bleeding out onto the floor, lest I not be able to sign whatever the heck it was I signed. As a non-​cognizant human being, I thrust my paperwork at Niyen and had him fill it out as I curled up into the fetal position on some ottomans.
A few minutes later, I was taken back to an actual bed in the ER and told to change into a hospital gown. At this point, I didn’t even care what I looked like or anything. I ripped off my dress, standing there topless trying to get this hospital gown open.
As a patient, a suggestion; can these gowns not have their ties tied with each washing? I’m sorry, but when I’m delirious with pain, I just don’t have the mental fortitude to try to untie what seemed like a nautical knot to get myself dressed. I gave up, defeated, and had Niyen untie it and dress me.
I screamed and crawled around on my hospital bed for what must have been a good hour+. During that time the doctor came in to ask me where it was hurting (my lower right quadrant) did my back hurt (no) and did I have a history of kidney stones (no.) I was told medicine would be coming.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t think anyone wants to hear me scream. Maybe the nurses really didn’t care because seriously, why was I left screaming like a banshee for an hour? I don’t get it. Clearly pain management is not at the top of the list of priorities.
My nurse, Rebecca, came in to administer my IV, to get a blood sample, etc. I was so dehydrated that she couldn’t get any blood out of my arm whatsoever. She told me the IV was for my medicine. I asked her when I would be able to get some. Her curt response, «When I get it.» OH, OKAY, I’m sorry for bothering you. Niyen had to ask 3 times where it was at after she left, which was another good 30 – 45 minutes until I finally got medicine.
I got wheeled in for an x-​ray and the guy, who I didn’t catch his name, was the only guy who seemed to genuinely care or have an ounce of bedside manner. He directed Niyen on keeping me calm (which he did the whole night because he is a good person) and getting me through that whole process. All the stars go to this x-​ray tech.
I had medication at that point so I was doing a lot better. After the x-​rays, another nurse came in with some sort of mobile credit card scanner to make sure they got my $ 250 co pay. Now, I can respect the hustle in getting your money, but I have a big issue with the fact that nobody could hurry up and get me to the point of not feeling like I was being ripped apart from the inside, but when it’s time to get paid, trust that you’re not even going to be out of your bed or have a diagnosis before they come around looking for money. At least at St. Rose Siena, you pay on your way out of the hospital.
The doctor told me that the x-​ray showed that I had kidney stones. No mention of how many, how large nothing. When I got home, my discharge papers didn’t even mention those facts. They did mention a strainer that I was supposed to use to catch a kidney stone to make sure I passed it, but alas, the hospital had never given me one, nor verbally told me anything about after care. I did get a prescription for… MIDOL (LOL OK) and a very strong pain killer. I wish I would have been given some more information because I had no idea how many of these things I would have to go through. The next week was an absolute nightmare as these things passed. At least this hospital is on top of getting their co pay.
In the end, we were in the ER for more than 3 hours.
If it weren’t for Niyen, I’d probably still be at the hospital trying to untie my gown. Will not be back.
