Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center

I have contacted the number they have posted here, and I have not had any results. This happened 2 months ago, they always tell me they’re working on it, or they’re waiting to hear back. I don’t know what kind of company takes 2 months to respond to another department within the same company. I feel like I’ve just been strung along this entire time just to get me off the phone. NO ONE ever follows up with you with any real results. Who can I contact, Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, to report the blatant ABUSE that took place on this one evening? Who can I report the falsifications of my test results to? DOES ANYONE CARE AT ALL???

I came in with a life threatening issue. They put me in fast track. Fucking fast track! Forgot about me. Also sat in a chair where i could hear EVERYONE’S problems. No privacy at all. Told me i was constipated and go home.
Saw primary doctor next morning who redid blood work. He called me at home to tell me i had a NASTY infection and had to be admitted in hospital. Went to Valley and was taken care of. Good job morons. You blew me off, forgot about me, ignored me and sent me home to die. All while putting me in fast track in a god damn chair. Never again pukes.

My doc and surgery staff were outstanding but after that it slides downhill quickly. Was placed in temp room apparently so was moved early AM to a room i was only going to be in a hr or so. Move was unorganized, room was dirty and the heater was stuck on. In initial room, care givers were snide, uninformed and did not care at all about waking me up every half hr. (No that was not my doctors orders)
Needless to say I couldn’t wait to get out of the place.
Would not go to this place again even if I were dying!

I am so disappointed in the level of care I was given during my E.R. Visit. I’ve struggled my whole life with hypoglycemia and have learned to handle it with good diet and exercise. So when I started experiencing severe symptoms at home, I decided to head over to Southern Hills. When I walked in, I was greeted and taken into triage and found out later on that the ER was actually full. I’m a pretty patient and passive individual, so long wait times don’t bother me. I was feeling extremely sick and hadn’t been able to hold anything down for almost a full day. For someone like me who suffers from hypoglycemia it’s extremely dangerous. I explained this to the nurse practitioner and also explained that I had been sipping on juice for several hours which would explain why my glucose levels were still in the low 70’s. I also stated several times that the nausea was excruciating. I was put in a waiting area with about seven other people and learned everyone’s medical history, personal information and private complaints. This is because no one was discrete at all. The registration staff and nurses seemed to not give a care of the HIPAA violations occurring left and right. Every hour I asked for anti-​nausea medication and every hour I was told it was coming. As a nurse I honestly thought the most important thing is making sure patients are hydrated and pain free. I was told I would be given IV fluids and 5 hours later I had received nothing. I finally lost my cool and asked a random nurse about nausea meds and making a complaint to the charge nurse. 5 min later a nurse came around the corner with a Zofran injection wanting to find my IV site to give me meds. The IV site that didn’t exist, so I was given this injection IM which by the way is the most painful way to receive it. I had no strength or energy to ask questions or make a valid statement. After 5 hours of not being hydrated, not having complaints addressed, not acknowledged and hearing what I heard, I was told nothing was wrong with me. All test came back fine which is really irritating to hear. I ended up going to another hospital and did get IV fluids. I think patient care is so important and I know that this is not what I received. I will drive an extra 7 miles to avoid this hospital. It was my first time and frankly my last. I will be reporting what I saw and heard to the appropriate agencies. Bad attitudes, horrible patient care decisions, no common sense… You can tell the staff is there for the paycheck and not the commitment to care for the sick. All I wanted was fluids and antiemetic meds… Your staff needs some serious training.

I came in through the ER at around 2AM with extreme pain caused by an infection from a surgery I got at a different, horrible hospital (St. Rose St. Martin — avoid at all costs!). Within 2 hours I had gotten blood and urine tests done, a cat scan completed, and had been diagnosed and given prescriptions for 2 different medicines. Granted, it was the middle of the night, but this was the most efficient service I had ever received in a medical facility.
Even better, the staff was legitimately nice. They listened to me. They offered me medication that would help with the pain but didn’t force me to take it when I told them I didn’t have the time to deal with negative side effects. They originally put my IV in at an angle that hurt, and the emergency room nurses were nice enough to switch it to another arm so that I would be more comfortable. Everyone was so kind. The doctor even brought me a pillow and warm blankets when I was waiting for my test results to come back. I will always choose this hospital whenever I need emergency care.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! I checked into the ER in excruciating pain at 406pm, there was only 1 other person in the waiting room. I got called back two minutes later. The nurses were friendly. I was put into my room right away. My assigned nurse explained stuff so well. The doctor was in within 10 minutes, she had to consult another doctor who was just as friendly as her in my room. I had an abscess on my tailbone that hurt so unbearably. They drained it, talked me through everything. And got me outta there within an hour!!! I felt indescribably better. My nurse walked me all the way out. The registrar who I checked out with was also friendly and personable. She chatted with me and solidified my experience with her advice. I signed out at 518pm and was on my way. The security guards gave me a friendly goodbye as well. My pain so relieved, although I still have some steps ahead. This experience was better than I could’ve ever thought of an ER. I absolutely recommend it and I’ll be heading back there without second thought any time I need emergency care.
For the first time in over a week I can hold my kids! ((I couldn’t sit or lay on my back to cuddle them, it was breaking my heart)). Mind you I saw 2 Drs and an urgent care with no resolve prior to today.

My mom was here for three days. She was only assessed by a nurse twice, nurses rarely came into the room, and took too long to get her pain medications. The CNAs were wonderful! The cafeteria was not very good at accommodating vegetarian diet – tossed salad every meal!!! OR/​PACU staff and volunteers were great!

It started out pretty good but going downhill pretty fast. Called for a nurse because my grandma’s wound is bleeding through her gown, her nose was bleeding, and her IV is leaking. It’s been 45 minutes and no one has come yet. Called 3 times. Please hire more nurses!!!

I came here to the ER with my baby. She had been coughing for awhile and accompanied with a fever. Previously, I went to a regular quick care and they dismissed us telling me there’s nothing wrong with her. I called various doctors and everyone was booked. Coming into this ER they were quick and they have such a caring staff. Turns out that my baby has pneumonia and they made sure everything was taken care of to the fullest. They even surprised my baby with a stuffed animal. There’s a reason why this hospital was rated the best. Thank you to all of your staff for the care and support.

Urgent Care … U-​R-​G-​E-​N-​T-​L-​Y!
Brought my daughter in for abdominal pain and was greeted by the nurses at the front desk who instructed me to sign in at the kiosk a few feet away. Once in triage the nurses were all in good spirits and worked urgently to get answers to questions, take blood pressure & blood work.
When placed in an open room, the registration clerk (she was awesome!)took my insurance card & ID and had me sign disclosure forms.
Total time here was about 3.5 hours once the tests and procedures were completed. This ER has a pediatric center which helped speed up care for my child.
I am blown away by the sense of urgency & teamwork Southern Hills exampled! Thank you all to the staff @ Southern Hills ER!!!

I went to the ER here late one night with severe asthma. The lady that checked me in did so quickly and efficiently and I was shown to an exam room.
The doctor was Aaron Lovinger — rather ironic last name as he is truly the most unloving doc I’ve ever met. What an ATTITUDE! Go check him out at doctor review sites.. .I’m not alone in my opinion. He walked in, looked at the paperwork and told me I would need blood tests and a chest x-​ray. I informed him that I’d had surgery right there in the hospital 6 days earlier and had those same tests. He snidely told me I needed them again. I told him to use the ones I’d had done a few days earlier and reminded him that I couldn’t breathe and he got quite nasty and refused, demanding i have the tests done again. I promptly left. The whole interaction took about 5 minutes at the most.
Fast forward: got a bill from the hospital for $ 1,150 for emergency services. I called to dispute the bill, they promised an «audit,» and guess who won? Of course, Southern Hills did and are demanding the money or it’s off to collections I go.
To make matters worse, I also got a bill from the oh-​so-​snotty Dr. Lovinger for $ 481. FOR DOING NOTHING. What other gig can you get where you make $ 481 for 5 minutes of merely speaking to someone in a total of maybe 4 or 5 sentences while abusing them in the process? That’s more than $ 96 a minute. Cool, huh? Great con, Southern Hills.
I have never, in all my life, seen such a scam. Never dealt with such dishonesty. Nor have I EVER been so disrespected by a physician.
Ah, well, I’ve only begun to fight this. See you in court, Southern Hills.

Wow! This was the fastest ER visit ever. I’m really impressed with the staff here.
We arrived around 8am and it’s now 8:21 and we are out.
The PA Kim was really nice and thorough and the other assistant there, June? Not sure of the name, was amazing, too.
They even changed his eye drop 3 times at my request without seeming annoyed (lol)

I just had my baby @ southern hills’ labor and delivery ward and it was a very good experience; I definitely felt like I was in good hands and that the staff truly cared about my care and my baby’s care.
I really enjoyed that it is standard policy for baby to stay w/​mom in her room at All times, instead of being taken to a nursery. I had a chance to see the NICU as well and it was very nice; warm, calm environment for the babies. All the nurses that I encountered were very sweet and attentive. They were always more than willing to help me out with baby even for very simple things. They were very very generous with samples to take home, such as pads, diapers, formula/​breastpump items, etc etc. The recovery ward even had an open-​access pantry room that had a microwave for use and a refrigerator with items such as drinks, sandwiches, popsicles, etc available to patients at any time. The breakfast, lunch, dinner meal options were ok but hey it’s hospital food right it’s not going to be five stars lol
If southern hills hospital is an available option for you to have your baby at, I would recommend it in a heartbeat!

Unethical billing office and for that reason I can’t recommend this hospital.
BEWARE THEIR BILLING OFFICE. Be VERY careful of what you pay.
This hospital overcharged me by $ 200 for the stay below and after multiple attempts to initiate a refund they keep forwarding me to «Fremont ER billing office» which kept looping me back to the hospital. They’ve avoided answering my questions, won’t call me back, and pretty much avoid responsibility.
A 1-​day stay at this hospital came out to $ 24,000.
Avoid this place.

Luckily I wasn’t here for an emergency…
Came in late one night looking for the sleep clinic. It was around 10−11PM and I entered through the only lighted entrance, the emergency department. I figured I could find it myself using a map or posted signage, assuming the place would be busy.
There was no signage. There were no maps. It was not busy. Yet no one asked me if I needed help, no one even looked up when I was walking around, and when I finally asked for assistance, no one knew where the lab was. Eventually I found an elevator and the lab was listed on the directory for an upper floor.
I am grateful that I did not need medical attention here, because if the staff are this incompetent at simple tasks I’d hate to be at their mercy with a real problem. Maybe if I came in an ambulance or with a visible wound, I would have been attended to. but bedside manner is comparable to customer service, and the night staff here seem to be lacking in that regard.

My first time going to an ER so I don’t know how to compare to other hospitals but my experience here was nothing short of perfect. I thought I had severe constipation and possibly a blockage in my bowels. The staff there listened to my symptoms, did a thorough job asking me my medical history, and proceeded to give me the correct diagnosis. Kidney stones. Once I googled kidney stones it was apparent that was what I was suffering from.
Staff there took good care of me. Perhaps more waiting around in my room than I’d like but I’d guess my case was low priority as it was not a serious condition and pain had subsided by the time I got to the hospital. When the pain did come (in a big way) they got me pain medicine stat and it was gone within 10 – 15 minutes. Kidney stones are no joke and the pain management is really important.
Haven’t seen an invoice yet and I know they bill insurance like 9K for a CAT scan. That’s ridiculous but I don’t think that’s on Southern Hills — this is just health care in the United States. Couldn’t be happier with the staff there. Wonderful people and it’s obvious their employer treats them well. Everyone I encountered was competent and positive.

This review is for labor and delivery and post partum.
L&D:
Overall, a subpar L&D experience, although I have nothing to compare it to. Triage was quick and easy and I was placed in a room immediately. My nurses were rushed and lacked compassion. A sad case of provider fatigue, I guess. The first nurse hooked me up to antibiotics at one point and forgot to program the pump for them so they went uninfused for an hour. The exception was Nicole (I think that was her name). She was an excellent advocate for me with my doctor and a terrific motivator as I labored naturally. She was a breath of fresh air in a sea of fatigued and robotic nurses.
My 42 hour labor culminated in a c-​section and it was a traumatic experience for me. In the OR, the health care team barely addressed me and had their own conversations unrelated to my delivery throughout my surgery. I was scared, cold, and tired and, in a room full health care professionals, I felt alone below the drape.
Post partum:
This was a nightmare. Frequently, my day shift nurse (who also doubled as a charge nurse) seemed preoccupied and rushed. My husband and I once went to the nurses’ station to ask for chux pads and other supplies and she brushed us off stating, «When I’m done here.» I used to work for HCA and I could tell that she was completing her mandatory computer training. While these ARE mandatory, they are to be done in a fashion that doesn’t interrupt patient care. I used to do them at home or at «slower» times during my day. Patient care comes first. The same nurse sent me home with discharge papers for another patient. I didn’t notice this until I went to send them to my employer to apply for maternity leave a few days later. HIPAA violation, much? Luckily, I was able to work this out fairly quickly and easily with the unit manager.
The lactation consultant was available to me only twice for short periods of time. We tried to latch for a few minutes and were unsuccessful both times. Besides two visits to attempt latch, I did not receive further in-​depth breastfeeding assistance or help with tips on building my milk supply. My night nurse did help me teach me how to pump and hand express, but I could have used more help from the lactation consultant. As a result of lack of stimulation to the breasts in the immediate post partum period, it took far too long for my milk to come in.
On the bright side, my call light was always answered quickly on post partum. My night shift nurse (Dahlia, I think) was very patient and compassionate. I was so happy and relieved on her arrival.
Overall a difficult experience for a first timer, especially for a healthcare professional who had high hopes for these units.

I think it is about time I write a review considering I have made trips to this hospital over the last 9 years living in Vegas.
This is the go to spot for ER visits and stays if necessary as I have been admitted a couple of times.
The staff is on point, the ER doctors and their physician assistants are wonderful in every way.
I actually live within 5 minutes of Spring Valley aka Death Valley hospital however I will make the extra 20 minute drive to come here.
I have never had to wait hours for an ER visit like I have at other Emergency Rooms. Also the rooms are all clean, spacious and private. When I go to the ER I don’t want to hear through the curtain next to me of the issue a patient is having trying to POOP! I also don’t want others to hear of my crazy escapades or illness causing my ER visit!
The staff has compassion, they always seem to love and baby me, but that could be due to my awesome contagious personality? How could you not want to treat me with TLC?
Anyhow, 5 fist pumps to Southern Hills Hospital.

This reviewis for the ER here. It’s really nice in here. SECURITY guard at the door? I’ve never felt safer. Relaxing, beautiful simple calming décor all around with fake plants. There’s a little Kiosk you scan the back of your ID and fill out your Social… Some random lullaby tune just rang in the waiting room. What’s that about? Neat I guess. Checked in about 8:55 PM today, Monday April 6^th 2015.
You have your own remote behind your head waiting in Triage.

Finally I can write my review! We had the option to deliver our baby at either Southern Hills or San Martin Dominican hospital, we toured both and they were both very similar. However, we ended up choosing Southern Hills because they had a level 2 NICU and a few other small details we liked. After the initial experience I kind of regret not choosing the other hospital because the nurses at Southern Hills were ridiculous!
We stayed for 4 days and encountered a variety of nurses, what’s sad is only about 2 out of 10 of them were friendly and caring. I understand they’re working 12 hour grueling shifts but don’t take it out on your patient!
Woman who came to clean room daily was very friendly but I was put off when she started moving my personal belongings around (expensive purses that were already organized neatly in the corner– why are you touching that? And keys and lip balms that were laid out on the night stand next to the hospital bed, I appreciate the fact you want to organize but please don’t touch my things!)
Cherry on top. We were anxiously waiting to go home on the day of discharge, cranky newborn, sleep deprived parents, we just wanted to go home. We asked our nurse on that shift throughout the day if she knew when the doctor would be by and how long a discharge typically takes. Her response, «he’ll get here when he gets here, this happens all the time, technically he has until midnight to discharge you, you need to wait.» Fine so we waited, and waited until late evening came and I finally called my doctor’s on call service to see what was going on. He didn’t even know we were still in the hospital! Had no plans of coming down that day to discharge us. We literally wasted a day laying around a hospital room. Doctors fault but nurse should’ve reacted differently or at least followed up.
