Description

Specialties

Extraordinary hand-crafted Pinot Noir from the heart of Puget Sound. Enjoy our fine wines including estate-grown and award winning varieties at our farm on Whidbey Island

History

Established in 2003.

We planted our vineyards in 2003-04: Devoted to cultivating the benefits of the rich soil and maritime-influenced climate of our vineyard, the Krug family invites you to expand your experience of Whidbey wines and savor the pleasure of a small estate winery. The Krug family is committed to sustainable growth at their earth-friendly winery. We grow Pinot Noir Grapes and makes a complex and delicious Pinot (double gold). We source grapes from Oregon (biodynamically grown) similar to the ones we grow — they are grown to our specifications. You can then taste the difference.

We also produce Estate Rose of Pinot Noir and Verjus from our grapes.

Our other grapes are sourced from E. Washington to make our award winning wines including Deception — named after Deception Pass on the north side of the Island — a bourdeaux blend (Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec) (Columbia Valley), Malbec, Crimson, Possession (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) and Pinot Gris and Pomo di Moro

Meet the Business Owner

Karen K.

Business Owner

Karen and Jack Krug began Spoiled Dog Winery in 2003 because of their love for wines — particularly Pinot Noir. They selected their farm location based on the soils and the maritime climate of Whidbey Island. Karen is the vineyard caretaker: she researched the best root stock and had all of the plants grafted with 7 different clones of Pinot Noir (some that bring fruit, some with spices and some with the backbone to the wine). Both have taken many classes and studied with specialized winemakers. Come and meet them at the winery tasting room and enjoy their wines. Sami and Blue, their australian shepherds may also greet you.
