The Gables

Hi My name is Zac and I have been a resident for 3+ years at the Gables. I am writing this review primarily because I have really enjoyed living here and I currently do still live here. I have lived in the awesome two bedroom loft and recently switched to a smaller 1 bedroom that I currently live in which is perfect for me. I have also read the current reviews and disagree highly with what is written about the property, management, grounds etc. I find nothing in this world is perfect but Ill start with the things I enjoy most. I wouldn’t let a few bad apples with bad attitudes steer you away from this place.
1. The mountain park rec center located next door (free to gables residents) IS AMAZING!!! I have a 7 year old daughter and we go swimming every week. What I love most about the rec center is that its a ghost town, ALWAYS compared to local gyms its the only way to go. Its an amazing facility and is one of the main reasons I live here. Go check out the facility its awesome.
2.The gables is super quiet, in the world of apartments the thing I look for most is a quiet peaceful environment, I have never heard any of my neighbors through walls etc or even above me. Never any loud parties or anything along those lines. The people that live here are older probably a 25– 55 demographic.
3. The gables outdoor pool and hot tub are great in the summer, again I go there with my daughter on Sundays and I am always blown away by the fact that we have it all to ourselves.
4. The gables management and staff are getting a pretty bad wrap on the other reviews I read. In my experiences with them they have been extremely prompt, courteous and professional. I have worked with Kelly many times In signing leases, resigning, transferring units, parking etc. She is absolutely awesome to work with, she is and has always helped me with anything I need, she is fun, prompt, professional and she is five stars!!!
5. Mt Park is located in Lake Oswego, Lake Oswego in my opinion is an amazing place to live, the commutes from here are easy and I dont get stuck in crazy traffic, Lake Oswego has tons of greats places to eat and shop, its a great place to live
Now to the negatives lol, the only thing that I could say is negative really isent even negative, they closed the pool for a week to completely renovate and remodel the pool area, so downside no pool for a week upside its been remodeled and was great before but now its like brand new!!!
So I will wrap this up by saying I really enjoy living here, the units are great with great finishes in the world of apartments. Have a great day!!!
I almost forgot to mention the Lake Oswego School District is the best in Portland and possibly the Best in the State.

Sares-​Regis Group just took over managing our apartment community. They are not off to a good start. We just came home after being in Seattle for 2 days to a disappointing scene.
Built on a hill, residents are at risk of danger with trying to get to their front door due to the 10 inches of snow in the parking lot that has been accumulating since Thursday. They have had plenty of time to hire someone to come clear the roadway here to keep residents safe. The pathways and stairs to doors have about 8 – 10 inches on them; making them treacherous. However, when calling the emergency number, I was first told I can leave a message and someone will get in touch with me Monday and then I clarified that I have to leave a message when calling about an emergency??? I was placed on hold and was then told that the head maintenance guy, said that until it stops snowing, there are no plans to do anything. Are you kidding me? Just goes to show how important a resident’s safety is to this management group.
Words for the wise: Do not sign a lease with this lazy management company. We will not be renewing ours when the time comes.

From the time I contacted Jeff, I was lied to. Jeff told me there was a move in special of $ 499.99. $ 100.00 to hold it and $ 399.99 on move in day. I asked repeatedly what was due on move in, and was told only the remainder of $ 399.99. On the move in day, with a full U Haul, I approached Jeff with my email they sent, telling me that now we have to pay $ 1296 to move in. I also specified before signing any agreement, that we wanted an upper or middle unit. Jeff said no problem. With keys in hand on move in day, Jeff takes me down not one flight of stairs, but all the way to the bottom where it is damp and dark. I ask why when I specified what we needed, he says none were available. After 3 days, we find black mold in our storage closet and coming thru the walls around the sliding glass door. I notified management immediately. Jeff said due to the health risk, they would move us to an upper level ASAP. This is what I asked for in the first place. Within 24hrs, his fellow leasing agent, Goshia, came thru with the maintenance man and classified the mold as dirt. After she left the apartment, the maintenance man said it was black mold and that if he used bleach on it, spores would be airborne. After the mold was addressed, Goshia emailed us to say our «mildew» problem was taken care of. Over the next few days, my sinuses became infected and breathing became a serious problem. I contacted Goshia, and she said we could back out of our lease if we wanted with a full refund excluding water usage. After renting yet another U Haul and moving all of our belongings out, I left her a message to please contact me with our final move out amount. She didn’t respond for a couple days so I called again. I get an answer and a polite response of we get less than $ 300 back. I was floored! Apparently a full refund was never in the cards. Apparently we seem to be made of cash and can afford to move every 3 weeks. I would never recommend this complex nor this management group. They are scandalous crooks out to make money.

I was a resident at the Gables for 4 years. It started off in 2006 as a wonderful upscale community to live in, and declined into a nightmare of nightmares.
The management changed hands to Mark Taylor in July of 2009. Bree, the assistant manager, moved in to the apartment underneath ours at 2:30 in the morning on a Wednesday. Many people had to work the next day, had no idea what was going on (she was yelling & carrying on with the movers– apparently she had no money to pay them so they wouldn’t leave– rightfully so, I might add) and wanted her to keep it down. Someone called the police on her, and she thought it was us and never missed a beat to try to wrongfully evict us. It never happened because of her bogus claims that her and Adam, the other «manager» could never back up. But that was always a hassle nevertheless.
A maintenance man broke a water main and it flooded our 1100 sq ft apartment that was covered with handmade antique persian rugs. Not only were they expensive, they held much sentimental value to my Persian boyfriend. They were ruined, along with many other possessions. ¾ of the floor was covered in 2 inches of ice cold water. They offered a smaller apartment. We had to pay all moving expenses «up front» with a promise that they would reimburse us. That never came through as they later claimed the faulty maintenance man was not responsible for the catastrophe, rather it was «an act of god», so nothing could be done about it.
We also had to call the police on Bree and her father? boyfriend? we were never really sure who the drunken man was that lived with her, because one night he came up to our door around 9:30 pm, yelling, cursing, kicking our door and threatening. We were telling him to leave, when she decided to come out screaming and yelling that she was going to «evict our asses». Seriously? This woman would be better off running a prison ward, not a previously hitherto classy apartment complex.
Adam was always condescending, and could rarely attend to getting you a reply about an inquiry one might have, even ones as important as when your life and home are abruptly turned upide down due to incompetency. He also always had to run everything by his «assistant» first, which was Bree. God only knows why, with their two heads put together things seemingly got worse. It was never really clear who was in charge or who was «managing’…they were great at managing to make the lives of residents miserable. I left here in late 2010, after my ex committed suicide in unit G3. Maybe things are different now?
I am sad to say I would never recommend this place. I left as soon ASAP. Save your money, time and sanity and look into ANY of the other complexes in Mountain Park. Your home should be where the heart is.

I wish I could tell you I was writing this review from a better place, but unfortunately I am still residing at the Gables with my roommate.
When we first moved here, it seemed like such an upgrade. We were living a little lower on the hill in Mountain Park at Parkridge Apartments, and boy, was that place a dump!!! The Gables seemed more modern, updated and more professional.
We were sadly mistaken.
We have dealt with so many maintenance disasters that there seems no real reason to stay except for the fact that the office management has finally decided to do what we ask (and we just renewed our lease just a month or so ago).
The apartment layout for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath is very nice and convenient. I have also visited a neighbor’s apartment and can vouch for different floorplans for different apartments. Every apartment is equipped with a small washer and dryer, a small patio and an outside storage closet. The kitchen is small but it has a «window» that looks out into the living room so you’re not completely sequestered from company. The living room is spacious as are the 2 bedrooms (the master being considerably larger than the second bedroom).
The pool is on the small side and always cold, the hot tub is usually always broken and overall, there is not much of a community at the Gables.
What is most disappointing at the Gables is the management. The business manager is constantly changing, and each one is as incompetent (or more so) than the last. Every time we have come up with major maintenance issues or safety issues (a man delivering pizza to our apt at 1 in the morning without a pizza box in hands or wearing a uniform) has been neglected. The only one who pulls his weight around the complex is the very friendly, very competent maintenance manager (David). He has been the apartment’s only saving grace.
Although the location is pretty superb for the Lake O area (10 minute or less drive to Lewis & Clark College, up the hill from downtown lake O and a 5 minute drive to I-​5), think twice before settling into this complex that is falling down around our ears.
