Royal Lahaina Resort

Relaxing, Relaxing and more Relaxing. A Friend went there for a workshop and visited I visited the place twice in the past week and went to the restaurant. The Resort has a compact design makes every thing close. It has a great beach away for the Kaanapali strip. Service at the Restaurant was unrushed food was good and the view was great. Great Place to Hold and meeting or workshop or a wedding. FYI did not say in the rooms so have no idea what they are like. Of course this place is pricy.

Of all the hotels in Hawai’i, this one is over the top. Rooms, staff, location and their breakfast buffet, make it my favorite places to stay on Maui.

This place wasn’t worth the money. We definitely paid for the location near Kaanapali, not for the accommodations. Bathroom was tiny. The entire place feels a little run-​down. The parking lot is very inconvenient. The staff left our door ajar after cleaning our room (nothing was stolen, however). Would absolutely not stay here again.

For the rate we were paying, I wasn’t impressed. The room was fine, nothing spectacular. The shower was gross. Mildew on the ceiling and the shower floor looked dirty. Our second night there we found bugs in the room. They changed rooms for us which had a nicer view but the shower was still gross. I will say that the drinks from the shower bar were good and reasonably priced during happy hour. The location is nice and the grounds are well kept. I just wished the room was nicer.

I rarely if ever have given 5 stars but seriously there isn’t anything I could offer to make my weeklong stay anymore pleasurable for my wife and me. Breakfast and dinner in the resort restaurant was excellent. Any and all staff encounters were courteous and competent. Housekeeping was timely as well as thorough. Pools and hot tub were well maintained. My only suggestion would be to consider making hot tub 18 and over as anytime I was interested in the hot tub it seemed to be filled with youngsters.

If the world of travel was distilled only to do, or do not then this is a definite do not. Images on the internet were taken by a magician. I imagine in its heydey, in the 50s this place was amazing. Average age of traveler here is roughly 80. If you are looking at s great package deal for this place there is a reason the price is low.
Our room smells distinctly like raid, and I’m sure there’s a good reason for that –bugs in the tropics are legendary. But all of our stays on all the Hawaiian Islands have outshone this place 20 times over. The furniture is prehistoric, the pool is a postage stamp. One reviewer rated this place 4 stars and another, five. Apparently they imported their psychedelics, popped them on the plane and woke up mesmerized.
If you are looking for a cute, quiet place e to honeymoon and you drink yourself blind I between sleeping it could suffice, as long as you don’t mind being the only couple under 100. If this had not been a package deal I’d be running to the nearest motel 6 for an UPGRADE!!! Rediculous. Buyer beware.
Update: on our last day, we were standing out on the «lanai» (a joke of course) and a cockroach roughly 4 inches long ambled up over the wall headed into our room. I have PICTURES. I’ll post later. UGH!

Not sure why this place has some bad reviews but our experience with this hotel was wonderful. I would rate this somewhere between 3.8−4 star. It is one of the cheaper 4 star hotels and I feel that that it was very much worth it. The property itself is very hawaiian and well kept. We visited the honua kai and the sheraton which were more modern. The other 4 stars have at least a $ 30 resort fee every day while the RLR only charges you $ 10 a day for parking (although the parking spaces are kinda tight)
The service here was very good, friendly staff. We were greeted with a «welcome home» almost everyday which felt very heartwarming. We were upgraded to the partial ocean view room on the 10^th floor because of our honeymoon and found it clean and comfy. Housekeeping did an amazing job cleaning our room everyday. They replaced our towels, gave us new soaps and shampoos. We left them a $ 3-​$ 5 tip everyday. One day we were surprised to find our $ 5 tip was still there but our room was meticulously cleaned.
As a resort, theres not much to do. A couple of pools and hot tubs and beach chairs all around the property to lay around. There is a beach bar with happy hour from 2 – 4. A short hula show and live music at sunset at night and yoga, lei making, etc classes offered during the day. Beach is a short walk and i enjoyed this beach more than the crowded black rock in front of sheraton. Black rock however is only a 10 min walk away.
We did not try the restaurant because of the average Unilocal reviews. It was typical hotel prices anyways. We decided to go out and try local restaurants.
If you decide to lounge around the hotel everyday, this hotel is not for you. You would end up nitpicking at all the things that could be better which would differentiate it from a 5 star hotel. But this is maui, go out and explore and you will be very happy coming home to RLR.

I’m am hosting my dream wedding at the Royal Lahaina on June 18, 2016 with a guest count of 40 people. Me and guest are flying from California and staying at the Royal Lahaina for over a week, Saturday will be our wedding and Sunday the entire wedding will attend the Luau and I was treat so poorly by manager Annette Guerra.
I called yesterday to submit a payment to my room and she did not want to process the payment and told me to call tomorrow at 8am when Lavaina comes in to process my payment. Then I asked her to please process the payment now because I work all day tomorrow and she finally agreed to do it. I then asked her for a receipt and she said she will email me the confirmation and then hung up on me!
I called her back and told her that I never received the email confirmation and she yelled and me and told me that she is too busy from a meeting early and that I shouldn’t except people to jump and rush a receipt. I told her that I have never been treat so poorly by any staff member at the Royal Lahaina other than her, and then she hung up on me again!!!
I could not believe that she hung up on me twice, and I sent an email to Her and cc my wedding planner Geraldine and Amy Johnston about this incident. I have been planning my upcoming wedding With Geraldine for almost a year now, and she is so amazing, sweet, kind and everything I ever wanted in a wedding planner! I couldn’t be happier with having her as my wedding planner an we have never had any conflicts at all!
I can’t explain how bad the mistreatment from Annette Guerra was, and The Royal Lahanina should not have employees like her to represent their resort in a negative image!
Thank goodness for people like Geraldine, Laviana and Amy Johnston because those girls are truly gems! But unfortunately I lost a lot of confidence in the Royal Lahaina after Annette hung up on me twice because I wants to submit a payment!

My wife and I just got back from our wedding & honeymoon @ The Royal Lahaina Resort. We booked a 10 day vacation package from Costco and were pleased when we found that our room was a actual ocean view with a nice comfy king bed. Things were going well until we started getting calls from the front desk. Don’t leave your towels on the balcony & no smoking on the balcony etc… WTF leave us alone we are on our honeymoon!!! We were there 10 days and they only made up our rooms maybe 4 times-​UN ACCEPTABLE!!! We left the room every day for beach fun and would be gone until after 4 pm and would come back to a messy room. Even when we left the maid was 3 rooms down and would totally skip our room. There was mildew in the shower that was gross so my wife called down and asked them to clean our shower but they never did. I gave it a try and it came right off with a little elbow grease. On my honeymoon I should not have to clean a shower I’m paying $ 300 a night for.
Food was ok, nothing special & the hotel Luau food was a little better, nothing great. The drinks at the Luau were HORRIBLE! They had little booze & a lot of sweet syrup that tasted like chemical. They brought us 3 rounds and we could only take one sip and that was it. They really need a new bartender for the Luau-​maybe the maid was making drinks that night.
I will say the property is beautiful and well kept & the beach is un crowded and perfect with a short walk to very good snorkel spots. Our favorite thing to do was watch the sunset on our balcony with some cocktails looking for Humpback Whales. We saw at least a dozen from our room.
If they would worry a little more about cleaning rooms & worry a little less about WTF I’m doing on my balcony it could be a 4 star resort.

Update on the rest of our experience:
We avoided the restaurants given the previous reviews on people getting sick — we just didn’t want to take the chance.
We did rent a cabana for the beach for $ 40 that’s basically 2 covered chairs and comes with a pitcher of ice water and extra towels. The guy who brought the water also mumbled saying he would be right back with cups but never returned. We made do and drank out of the pitcher top.
The room itself isn’t bad, but you can tell it’s an older property with some updated features. The shower had some signs of gunk that I was able to ignore and there was also a mysterious towel shoved next to the fridge that was stained, which we also ignored. I was never totally grossed out by anything in the room, if that vouches for anything.
We also didn’t want the cleaning people to come on a daily basis due to previous reviewers stating they never actually clean anything and one anecdote of someone losing their souvenirs. We left a Do Not Disturb sign on the doorknob at all times and kept our room clean ourselves. By the third day, they entered anyway and took the initiative to take down some clothes we had hanging to dry (which were wet when we returned, so thank you), gave us less towels than we had before, and didn’t empty any of the trash cans. They also took away our Do Not Disturb sign. Not cool.

Summary: A vintage property with some cosmetic updates located on a great piece of real estate. Said another way — 2.5 star hotel on a 5 star beach.
Our group of 9 adults booked 3 ocean view rooms and one ocean view suite for a 4-​night stay during the busy Christmas week. We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon, around 2 and three of the four rooms were ready (promised checkin time is 4 pm) which was helpful. They called me within 30 minutes for the final room. The checkin process was smooth and efficient with Nita at the front desk who was friendly and most helpful.
As for the hotel itself, it is an older property and consists of a 12 story tower set perpendicular to the beautiful Kaanapali beach with balconies. Also there are a number of «cottages» spread across a large grassy area running along the beach. Our room was in one of those. They kindly upgraded us from an ocean view to what they call a «deluxe ocean view» suite. We had two rooms one with a king bed and the other with two queen beds just a few steps from the beach-​this was the upstairs of the two story cottage (8146). This room was «updated» with newer beds (quite high off the floor) and carpets and updated bathrooms.
BEST FEATURES of this resort
1. Location-​they are located on a great stretch of beach that’s not very crowded (even when we visited during Christmas)
2. Some rooms are updated-​our suite had a new modern bathroom with marble counter, new fixtures and a big modern shower (8146)
3. Nice restaurant that overlooks the water and a pretty pool– we enjoyed the buffet breakfast
4. Lobby area is updated and nicely furnished
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
1. This is an older property and it is easy to find signs of wear and tear– the rooms we had in the tower needed work with a dated tiki motif and some rust and mold in the bathrooms
2. Pool by the pool bar was dark looking (and rather small)
3. Lounge chairs on the large grassy lawn are the old style strap chairs
4. Older rooms-​not very sound insulated (we could hear our downstairs neighbors through the floor).
5. PEST CONTROL-​found a live cockroach on the bed our first day. Notified the front desk and they came right over and treated the room. Next morning found a couple more dead in the bathroom. Today (3^rd morning of our stay)-3 huge mostly dead ones in the bathroom and by the bed. Notified the front desk. They treated again. Today, last day one more big dead one in bathroom (see photo). Perhaps they should consider closing off the ¾ inch opening under the door.
Check out time is 11 am but you can sign up the night before for a 30 minute slot in a courtesy suite to change if you have one of the common late flights home.
If you want a great beach and are ok with an older hotel with some warts at a reasonable price, this place fits the bill.

4.5 out of 5 stars! This resort was everything my husband and I could have wanted in a honeymoon resort! It was right on the beach, but had 2 pools with a bar, a really good hotel restaurant with amazing ocean views, great entertainment– the luau is a MUST! AND amazing food to top it off! Service was wonderful the whole time and we truly felt right at home the entire time we were there! The hotel is in close proximity to the main road that gets you all over the island so that’s really a nice plus! Not many families or children either, so we loved that! Can’t wait to come back!

Best value for your money by far. My husband and I got married here in August and had a decent yet beautiful wedding. In retrospect however, a honeymoon may have been the better option. While my experience with booking rooms was tainted with an incompetent employee, it was met with resolve over time after complaining to corporate. When we arrived, it appeared the staff was unprepared for the crowd as most of us waited upwards of over two hours just to check in.
If you are a perfectionist and know exactly what you want for your wedding, I don’t recommend choosing any of their wedding packages due to the fact you’re limited in selections of food, photography and beverage. They don’t offer tastings, you only get 2 dozen 4×6 low res photos which you’re lucky if they’re not busy, because you won’t get to see the proofs for MONTHS. This was disappointing because wedding photos are so important. You also don’t get to see the set up before the wedding starts. We opted for a cupcake tower over a traditional cake and they were the worst cupcakes we’ve ever had. Anyone that thinks it’s okay to use cool whip instead of vanilla icing should be banished from baking period. There was a 40% chance of rain so we opted for the contingency plan for an indoor reception which happened to be dated and in dire need of upgrading.
There is a reason why you don’t get to see the set up just before the big day… As long as you go in with zero expectations, you don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Also, be prepared as everything shuts down starting at 9:45pm. The planner they have on staff is awesome and she works very hard with what she has.
In my opinion, they have the best beach real estate on the island. Unforgettable sunsets check. Supreme ocean views check. Tasty breakfast buffet check. Clean, air conditioned rooms check (we stayed in the tower which was perfect). Overall it was a pleasant experience for the value they provide. If you want a Vogue inspired storybook beach wedding look elsewhere. If you are looking for a budget friendly venue with a beautiful, clean beach this is the place. We would absolutely stay here again with our growing family and look forward to returning someday.

First off…3 ½ star hotel… allegedly. Had high expectations. Room was fine. Ocean view… we paid extra for that. Staff was nice. No one was especially attentive or friendly.
One restaurant in the hotel. Food was expensive and not very good. The last morning of our stay, we tried the breakfast buffet at the dreaded restaurant… best meal there. Lots of choices. Decent food. Service wasn’t great at any meal.
Pool/​activities staff was very helpful.
Rained off and on for the first few days of our trip. Woke up one morning after a good rain and the ceiling in the hallway was leaking. Wet floor signs and trash cans to catch the drops. You could tell it had been patched before, but roof obviously need to be repaired.
Renovations were being made on high dollar cabanas, but not on hotel’s roof. Priorities.

My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights during our honeymoon at the end of September. I can’t begin to express how much we miss it! From the moment we arrived, the valet and bell hops were fantastic. The check-​in was a little slow, but I was in paradise and wasn’t going to complain.
We bought a honeymoon package through a third party so our room was amazing. We had an ocean view (read, not ocean front) and we spent countless hours sipping mai tai’s on our lanai.
Overall, the staff was fantastic. Any questions we had were always met with prompt answers.
Both of the bars were great. I do have to say, I preferred the dining room bar over the tiki bar. The bartenders were a bit more personable and I think the drinks were a tad better.
The breakfast (which we had included each day) was excellent. We typically ate enough that we usually skipped lunch or just grabbed something quick while we were out and about. The restaurant (and room service) options were okay. Surprisingly, their sushi was some of the best we had on the island! However, I think the best culinary treat that the Royal Lahaina offers is at their coffee and ice cream shop, The Royal Scoop. I have zero shame in admitting I visited there at least once (sometimes twice) a day!
The beach access was great and beach rentals were decently priced. The only gripe I have, is even though the teenagers running the activities desk were extremely polite, they could have given better suggestions on snorkeling. My wife and I are both novices when it comes snorkeling and we ventured over to black rock, which was down the beach from the resort. That’s another story for another day, but it turned me off to snorkeling the rest of the week. We eventually did snorkel again on our last full day and went towards airport beach and it was much more enjoyable.
Overall, The Royal Lahaina was the perfect example of paradise and we cannot wait to go back! We stayed at a Hilton in Oahu for several days to start our honeymoon and The Royal Lahaina blew it out of the water.

I don’t even know where to begin. We checked in about an hour or so ago. After about 14 hours of travel time on 2 hours of sleep and the drive through Maui, we became increasingly excited the closer we got to the hotel. Heartbreak Hotel.
Right off the bat, they’re forcing a bellman on us. Can’t get our room keys unless we go through that process. Even though we tend to just take our own bags to our room, we play along. These folks probably depend on tips as a source of income like most people in the hospitality industry. He checks our lights, finds one isn’t working and calls to have it fixed for us. Great, thanks! The most heartbreaking thing about that whole experience was waking into our room for the first time and seeing our view… of the roof next door. And as soon as I walk to the glass door to see where exactly the ocean is for this ocean view room, I see construction workers looking right at me.
Wanted to put some stuff away in the safe, it’s locked, can’t reset it. No instructions how. Not wanting to deal with another issue, we decided to go out and explore a bit. But before we go, where’s that Do Not Disturb sign? Nope. Don’t have one.
Hopped in the shower real quick, black gunk on the shower head, mold in the grout. I give up.
This is our wedding anniversary. We’ve been looking forward to returning to Hawaii for so long (since our honeymoon 5 years ago), planning out every detail, sharing with all our friends how we couldn’t wait. We chose this hotel over the Marriott with the infinity pool or the Hyatt with the grotto. We chose this hotel because there was no indication of construction or obstructive views. I feel like we chose wrong and this is NOT how we envisioned kicking off what is supposed to be an incredible vacation.
I don’t even want to go back to that hotel. And that’s sad. Maybe I’ll take a shot at speaking to a manager or something but based on recent reviews, I don’t have high expectations.

Overall, a passable hotel. but maybe i have been spoiled by only staying in condo rentals in Maui. ;) a good place to stay of you never have leftovers and are out all day.
Pros: AIR CONDITIONING. Oh my! So nice to have air conditioning. However, when we checked in, the air conditioning just started running. Understandable since we got upgraded to a better hotel room last minute (honeymoon). But note that it takes about 2 hours before the air conditioning really kicks in and starts cooling your room.
The ocean view rooms are BEAUTIFUL!
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Yay for nice people!
Cons: we had an ocean view, but it was not worth it! The room smelled like burning plastic around 3 everyday because the sun was hitting it at the right angle.
Every night, we heard the live music from the lounge as well as the loud guests as the luau.
Parking sucks… small parking spaces, a bit far from the hotel. I believe $ 10 a day for parking (added on to the final bill). On top of that, you fight for parking with all of the luau guests.
Our hotel room faced the pool and we would get at least a couple of people staring straight at us from the pool. Not a big deal if you don’t care about that, but this made me uncomfortable since i wanted my privacy.
During the day, there was construction done RIGHT OUTSIDE of our room. Like, literally, if i looked outside, a construction worker would be staring straight into my soul. Very loud drilling as hammering. Yes, this is probably temporary, but as a light sleeper… this coupled with the noise from the lounge, this made it hard to sleep… ever. Didn’t receive a warning about construction, so that would’ve been nice to know to avoid the room during the day.
No microwave! We usually had leftovers. though there is a fridge. But what good is a fridge without a microwave?
No screens on the sliding doors. Prepare for bugs! We had a nice little visitor one night… a bee!
Tiny fridge… questioned sometimes if it was working. Good only if you have water or drinks to cool.

With spectacular views, friendly workers, and speedy service this place hits all expectations of wanting to be a pampered tourist.
This was my first experience in Lahaina and Kaanapali and I was blown away by how beautiful this place was. Our bellhop Jordan was super friendly and even gave us quite a few recommendations for some local spots to check out. They even have a pool area which overlooks the ocean as well, and if you’re up for a run the Beachwalk goes through the neighboring hotels and gives you the experience of breathing in paradise at first glance. There are so many things to do here and If you want to, you can also just sit by the beach and take up the sun
In general, I was just overly impressed at how speedy their valet, housekeeping, and front desk was in making our stay very enjoyable.

I want to follow up with my previous review after four days here… on day two the front desk called to upgrade my husband and I to a deluxe ocean view room which was stunning. We had some problems with the air conditioning in that room so they moved us to a comparable room for the rest of our stay which we throughly enjoyed! Last night after going to Lahaina for dinner we came home to a fruit basket. Tonight after the luau (at the resort, which was amazing!) we walked into the room welcomed by chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. We sat out on the balcony enjoying those as newlyweds and to celebrate the end of our first leg of our honeymoon in Hawaii. Thanks to Steven, one of the managers, for making our honeymoon unforgettable and going the extra mile for us! In the end, we ended up loving the resort and the service was extraordinary that you wouldn’t see anywhere else.
I’d like to highlight some of the unique things the Royal Lahaina has to offer:
–discounted breakfast for $ 6.99 between 6:30 — 7:30am on the terrace
–the PIYI drink, a piña colada served in a whole pineapple by the pool
–convenient to the luau show… incredible and great drink selections through the show
–They even have USPS boxes in guest services to ship home souvenirs for under $ 20!
We highly recommend the Royal Lahaina for anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion! They really went above and beyond our initial expectations which we’ve never experienced anywhere else!

Positives: beautiful grounds, central location to lots of must-​do sightseeing including access to the beachwalk that connects a lot of hotels along Kaanapali Beach, fantastic luau, comfy beds, yummy ice cream and bagel shop, fast elevators (really), fridge and safe in the room, free upgrade because we were on our honeymoon, easy beach access
Negatives: incredibly overpriced general store (3.00 for a travel sized toothpaste), poor service in the restaurant (server never brought drinks, never checked in on us, charged us for things we didn’t have, handed us a «corrected» bill that was still wrong twenty minutes later, charged to the room instead of the credit card), terrible wi-​fi (I’d rather them not offer wi-​fi than offer it and not be able to sign onto it), tight parking spaces and not enough of them, no microwave (okay I can live without a microwave in my room so call this nitpicky), only two dresser drawers and a very small closet (nitpicky again but if people have a lot of clothes it might be a problem), the door to the bathroom was more like a sliding closet door (strange!), and finally – this was a deal breaker–
Housekeeping threw out one of my shopping bags that was filled with souvenirs from throughout the trip, some souvenirs that were replaceable because I bought them but others that were not like beer cans and shells. This was not like a plastic grocery bag; it was a vinyl shoulder bag that was nowhere near the garbage. The front desk was not in a rush to help me and made me wait for the hotel manager and when I followed up while waiting, they said they didn’t know where he was. The housekeeping supervisor was unsympathetic and said they would need a receipt to see if they could do anything. This took up a good few hours of the afternoon.
Finally, the manager in charge of rooms was notified and apologized profusely (she was genuinely sympathetic and embarrassed and perplexed). Upon returning to my room after some afternoon events, I found replaced items that someone had purchased and a message on the hotel phone informing me that they were giving me a $ 50 credit to my room. Sure it was a frustrating and upsetting thing to happen on vacation, but this manager made it right. Unfortunately, this took up most of my final afternoon in Hawaii.
