The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas

Thanks Unilocalers for your reviews. I sat in a timeshare presentation and they offered 2 bedroom for $ 150k for 2 weeks plus $ 1500 yearly fee. Nice looking resort but I rather buy a condo without all the resort thrills. They are grossing $ 3.9M for each 2br unit ($ 150k x 26). No wonder these resorts are heavily marketed. Check out the timeshare reseller websites.

Stayed here for 5 nights. A beautiful and peaceful resort villa with a nice pool. I loved how the villa is right next to the bigger resort. It meant a bigger pool/​beach/​services were just a minute walk from my quiet and peaceful room.
The studio comes with a kitchenette, washer/​dryer, dishwasher, fridge and microwave – all of which I used during my stay. Free valet parking for the first day and free self-​parking with ample lots. But the parking space was so small! Overall, a great experience.

3.5 stars. I have mixed feelings about this place, I overall had a great stay for the price I paid. I got 3 nights on Hotwire not knowing what hotel I was booking for about $ 200 a night and I think it was definitely worth it. We had a little trouble checking in; I called to ask for early check in on the way from the airport and they said our room was ready but when we got there the woman had no idea who told us that and it was not. There was some confusion and the rooms the offered us to chose from she described as «undesirable.» As it turns out none of the rooms were ready so we sat in the lobby while she tried to figure it out. Long story short, we ended up waiting a total of about 30 mins and she put us in an oceanfront room that was gorgeous so we were pretty happy in the end.
The condo was HUGE! Plenty of room for my husband and I (we left the toddler at home) and would be perfect if we brought her too. Great kitchen with a blender, microwave and dishwasher.
They have 2 huge, beautiful pools as well as an awesome pirate ship pool just for kids. This is a great place to stay if you want to bring you family and cook. Parking is only $ 10 a night.
The only complaints I have is that a lot of the activities at the resort, which in my opinion should be included in the resort fee were not. For example, a daily sunrise 45 min yoga class cost $ 15. Seems a little ridiculous. They have a good happy hour but the drinks were only so-​so.
I probably wouldn’t again here again unless I got a killer deal and was bringing my family.

Absolutely AMAZING hotel! We are Starwood members and got a email promotion. Decided to book the Westin villas for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint! We loved that the hotel had a «honeymoon registry» so all our wedding guests got to contribute to our honeymoon as a wedding gift. The hotel was beautiful, the snorkeling on the beach was the best, and it wasn’t too far from downtown. Everyone who worked at the hotel was extra friendly and made our trip very special!

We had a great time. Our studio condo had an ocean view and large bathtub, full size washer and dryer. They also have a business center that I did not need to use this time, but took comfort knowing it was there. The internet worked great. They have parking under the units, so we did not have to get into a hot car.
We agreed to attend a timeshare update. Although we did not buy, they were nice and informative.
We would return.

This hotel is very nice. The pool was nice with slide for kids. The customer service was great as well.
One downside is that the rooms aren’t cleaned daily, only once a week. Fresh towels and sheets are only sent up when requested.

As a gold member and owner of westin properties, this was my worst stay and experience at any resort.
I understand that everyone here is platinum or owners as well. I booked our 10 year anniversary trip here for four nights and booked direct through starwood. Got all the nice letters asking about our stay and let them know it’s our anniversary and we are coming in at normal check in and checking out really early saturday. Just asked for ocean view and the larger unit as there are 2 sides to each condo.
We get there and front desk lady says we’ve been upgraded to ocean view and nicer room. We get to the room and it’s the smaller side with NO LANAI (unless you consider a one foot width a decent lanai) and absolutely no ocean view unless you stick your head out the side while trying to stand on the non existent lanai. We were actually staring at the kids pool on top of that! Asked and got nothing but we could get city view for one night but them move back to whatever is available the next day? Thanks for a measly plate of cookies though.
Housekeeping comes super late around 3 or 4.
Our car got stolen for 4 hours in the parking lot. We did leave the keys in the car but apparently another guest got in our car and drove off with it. We had to call security and them the maui police dept to file a report and them the lady came back with the car? Security took forever to look at the cameras to see who took it.
The rooms are tiny unless you get the big side with a lanai I’m assuming. Even Florida timeshares are fancier and nicer. Pool area is small and overall just a disappointment. Should have stayed in a hotel.

Stayed here for a week, and it was the best!
The rooms are not so modern, but im okay with it. The only con to this place I guess is the indoor washer/​dryer. Its one of those old, white and stackable washer/​dryer system. It was so loud that I have to continue taking care of my clothes in the morning because of all the noise it makes. I did overtuff it the first time I used it, but even with a light load it will still make the unbearingly loud noise.
Other than that, I enjoyed my stay here. The bar closes at around 9-​is I think. You can just sit there by the pool while sipping your drink if you dont want to go to the beach, which is only a few steps away.
By the way, for those of you who needs snorkeling gear, they have rental snorkels at the hotel. You just have to be patient in looking for them.

I came here for 5 nights for my honeymoon and it was a fantastic property. We were greeted by a very friendly concierge, Akesa who made us feel extremely welcome. The property in itself is quite large and intimidating when checking in but very easy to learn quickly.
I love the fact that each unit is a villa where everything is furnished so we could cook if/​when we wanted to. I also love how it was situated right on the Ka’anapali white sand beach. We went swimming and the water was insanely clear and fish was visible everywhere as there is some coral reef on the beach.
The only negative portion was when we sat through a very rude sales pitch for timeshares through the office. The sales rep was extremely condescending towards my wife and I. We had to get up and walk out within 10 min. It dampered our trip a bit but we tried to ignore it. My advice, don’t sit through these sales pitches or at least don’t be afraid to walk out especially if they treat you like garbage.
Even though that experience was a damper, I could not let one employee ruin the rating/​trip for this property. Fantastic stay and highly recommended.

This is my home away from home!!! I love the smell when you first walk in. It just ‘feels’ like home. We have been coming here since 2005 when my first son was born. My kids have grown up here but there is a reason we keep coming back. My parents are owners and they feel like it’s the best investment they’ve made for our family. From pool time to boogie boarding to sand castle making and lots and lots of football we spend our days together. I love it. We rarely leave because we have everything we need right here. I love the condos and love that we can load up at Costco and make it an affordable trip. The food here is good but it’s so much cheaper for a big family to have the comforts of a kitchen. There isn’t daily maid service but then again I don’t at home either. :)

I left my Maui ocean villa yesterday and now I am officially depressed.
My parents bought an oceanfront timeshare here 10 years a go before the second building was completed and I’ve had the pleasure of crashing their villa multiple times. You should know that there are three phases of the villas, the fourth phase is being worked on now. My parents own in the south tower which is the oldest but also more spacious. The north tower is the newest and most modern.
Unfortunately for me, this hotel is out of my price range. They do not offer kama’aina hotel rates. But I do think they have a hard hat special right now because of the construction on the fourth tower. When planning a recent trip to Maui with friends I booked a room at the Honua Kai which is right next door. They cannot even compete with the amenities and service that the Westin is offering.
Amenities at the Westin include:
* Three pools
* Two gyms
* Sauna/​Steam Room (public one in the second tower and another private one male/​female separate in the spa)
* Dinner/​breakfast buffet, drink of the day/​Happy Hour specials
* Various daily activities including yoga, water aerobics
* Pirate ship and full playground

* 3 restaurants (Ocean restaurant, sports bar Pailolo, and Pulehu Italian restaurant)
* pristine snorkeling right off the property
* beach chairs and umbrellas for a fee
* Friday tented market with local vendors
* covered self parking or valet
* two gift shops/​markets (they even have spam musubi)
* kama’aina specials on food
* kids two and under eat for free with paying adult
* full spa and innovative specials
* huge bathtub with spa jets and walk in shower with dual shower heads
* countless BBQ’s that are cleaned daily
* kitchen in suite
* washer and dryer
* air conditioner and/​or ceiling fans
* hospitality room open until 10 pm for guests catching later flights
* full locker room to shower
* complimentary shuttles to Whalers village and Lahaina
* amazing whale watching right off the property during the winter months
* nightly sunset is right there with views of Lana’i and Moloka’i
* last but not least, Westin heavenly bed with high quality linens (best sleep you will ever get)
This is only what I can think of off the top of my head. It’s hard for us to even leave the hotel because everything we need is right there! We also save a ton of money by cooking our own food. Costco is right by the airport and the bellman will even transfer your food and perishables right into a refrigerator while you’re waiting to check in.
Overall, I’ve had nothing but amazing experiences and lifetime memories on the beautiful island of Maui thanks to the Westin Ocean Villas. If you can afford to stay here, book it now!

The resort is beautiful and well managed. Stayed in a 1 bedroom unit that had a partial beach view. The rooms were clean, spacious and came with a full kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove, pots, pans, knives, cutting board, utensils, coffee maker, etc.)
The communal grills are also convenient. There are many within the resort so I never had to wait.

Worst place ever! I am having the worst experience here. Don’t stay here! Read my other posts. I am simply being honest.
Reserved a room which clearly was not guaranteed (online bookers be careful). I was given a special needs room instead of my original request (I was worried about someone actually needing it). The gentleman at the front desk told me that it was a larger room than what I reserved but, I reserved what I wanted so please be careful.
Also, they won’t clean your rooms within an 8 hour period of you vacating the room. I left my room at 7 AM came back at 3 PM ready to take a nap and the room was not clean. I called the front desk and I was hung up on four times put on hold twice for more than 10 minutes. It was heartbreaking given I was on vacation due to stress. .. I simply wanted to relax. .. This hotel did not provide that environment.
I am generally an easy customer, but I came to Hawaii tired and looking forward to winding down and all I felt was discomfort and unhappiness.
Of course when checking out. .. The clerk did not ask me how my stay was (I think they already knew). .. On the screen it probably said. .. Clerk Alert: Don’t ask her about her stay. .. She will not have anything good say. Ha!
The one bright spot is that Magie who helped me finally get my room cleaned (please note: I had to go downstairs to get some help) left me a goodie bag and a very nice handwritten note. Thanks Magie! I will give an additional star for that.

I normally avoid big resorts like the plague — but this is woohoo as good as it gets! The property is beautiful and incredibly well maintained. We stayed in the studio in the North Tower — perfect size for two people.
The fully equipped kitchen was a godsend, saving us hassle, time and money when it came to simple, casual meals. Another welcome convenience was the washer dryer, which we used the night before we returned. Not having to return home with dirty laundry is a real luxury.
The resort is designed to make your stay as comfortable and effortless as possible. There’s a shuttle to ferry guests to Whaler’s village, other resorts, and Lahaina. Concierge is exceedingly helpful as well — shout out to Nancy who went above and beyond telling us about a secret swimming hole and many other local delights.
Speaking of which, the pools were lovely — we took advantage of them on a day when the current was particularly strong. We also made good use of one of the many BBQ’s, best grilled ono and pineapple ever!
We availed of an incredible deal to visit this property, part of it included sitting through a timeshare presentation. Even that was relatively painless and well worth the time — they rewarded us with a lovely sunset cruise on the Teralani 2, review of that lovely voyage soon to come.
Hope to return to these gorgeous villas soon.

A beautiful place to stay. The room was very spacious and comfortable, though I was mostly there to just shower and sleep. Any time we needed assistance the front desk personnel were extremely helpful and friendly. What I loved most about the resort was the fact there were so many different pools to choose from, and always open spots to lay out. The pool side service was a bit slow, but had great happy hour specials including drinks and plates. The hummus veggie plate was my daily favorite! The boardwalk on the outskirts of the resort is an ideal place to walk along while watching the sunset. A truly amazing experience overall.

I have now been home from Westin Kaanapali for a week and I’m definitely having withdrawals. This is not the first Westin timeshare I have stayed at, the only other is the Westin Lagunamar in Cancun. I’m going to start off by saying that the location is absolutely gorgeous, but comparing it to Cancun there are something’s I didn’t like.
Pros: they had numerous different locations for pools and each had a different type of environment, stores were stocked with great gifts as well as food, staff was very friendly and always willing to help where ever they could, they were strict on the adult jacuzzi which is great so we could relax, beach was very close and sunsets were breathtaking!!!
Cons: no swim up bar, no infinity swimming pool, you had to pay for chairs on the beach (really that sucks), gym was small (big deal because there was a ton of people trying to workout), parking in the garage was minimal to about 15 – 20 spots in the south tower and they were hard to get after 6pm.
I know my complaints are really dumb, but it still was a great place! Looking forward to coming back again!

Maybe easy for me to please for my 1^st visit to Maui, but this location is central: between north and south, driving along this highway super convenient.
And supposingly, the best shallow water for snorkeling.
The villa is great, especially the ground level. Easy to get in and out to the beach.
Unit was a kitchenette, that’s all I need; c’mon, eating out is the whole idea for Unilocaling, right?
Heavenly beds are the bomb.
In terms of the # number of outdoor pools, jacuzzi’s, bars, and # of buildings (i’m in#7!), this place is colossal; north and south side.
Towel service pretty cool, a card for 2 towels.
Landscaping, second to none.
And oh yeah, the water views, amazing.
Pretty much what one expects from the Starwood properties.
Valet’s great, 1^st nite for this particular package, complimentary valet. Just a $ 10 tip for loading all the bags.

While I like to think I’m the type who can really rough it, and I can, I understand why having this level of comfort can be so intoxicating. I guess it’s like bottle service for old people. The facilities are impeccable, the service is friendly but smart enough not to make it feel too canned, and the location is absolutely beautiful. Couples and families are balanced such that neither dominate, and the kids appeared generally well behaved. Built post-​millennium — for Hawaii that’s fairly new.
ROOM: Ocean View Studio in Building 2 — really, what more can you ask for than to wake up each morning to this? I know hotels can be slippery with what they consider a ‘view,’ so we were really fortunate to have a good one. Size was perfect for two but they had a sleeper sofa as well. The open jacuzzi tub was probably better in theory as we kept the shades closed almost the entire time for bathroom business purposes. Kitchenette is snug but useful — we had one epic leftovers night. The juliet balcony worked for me, and it was a little more private to be a few feet back. Bed was amazing, large screen TV, internet not so great, faster to keep my phone on 4G. Housekeeping was unobtrusive and kept us well stocked.
GROUNDS/​FACILITIES: Immaculate, enjoyed all the different areas, from the lobby to the main pool, Pulehu’s koi pond courtyard, and Pailolo Bar. Obviously the star is the beach itself, really gorgeous looking across to the other islands and down toward Black Rock. Had a very fun conversation with a group in the 24 Hour Adults Only hot tub that ended with several of us jumping in the ocean for our very first night swim! The sea was so calm and the moon lit the water so beautifully, I’ll never forget it.
We didn’t really use the pool but it was nice to look at, used the gym briefly, also good — there were a number of active people in and around the resort. $ 10 nightly parking fee is lame, especially because parking is so tight and troublesome to find late in the evening.
SERVICE: Wonderful — there was a snafu with our reservation that cost us maybe 8 minutes, but they were so apologetic, gave us upgrades and resort credit, you’d think they accidentally shot us in the face. We got a full, sit-​down overview of the resort coming in, and there are activities concierges everywhere. Everything comes with a cost of course, but travelers who depend on the guidance (I use Unilocal!) will be happy here.
INVESTMENT: When I read conflicting reviews, I think it comes down to what you feel like you’re getting for quite a bit of money per night. If you’re not planning to be here much, you may not get your value, since these are basically condos at a resort where you can really plop down and enjoy the pool, ocean, facilities, and activities each day. We spent a lot of time away exploring, so we would probably have survived elsewhere, but this Westin was easy to love. Price wasn’t a factor as we traveled on a killer AmEx deal that encouraged (but didn’t require) us to look at the timeshare option, and we enjoyed the experience enough that we seriously considered it. The presentation was not a hard sell but they do make you squirm out of your seat a bit. If you have 90 minutes and want some SPG points, you should consider it.
When resorts work as hard as this one to beautify and simplify your stay, it only makes your vacation smoother and better, and I really appreciate the emphasis Westin puts on providing a premium experience. Having walked or run all up and down the coast, all the Kaanapali area resorts have wonderful views and beaches (northern ones are on seawalls with short walking distance beaches), so look for a price and amenities you’re comfortable with, and it’s hard to go wrong around here.

Being a Platinum Elite Starwood Resort property owner I have the flexibility to go anywhere I choose within the SPG family. This year we decided to revisit Maui and chose to stay at the Ka’anapali Westin Resort Vilas at the north towers. I didn’t even bother looking at reviews prior to booking, as the Westin Resorts or Hotels are either nice or nicer, always exceeding expectations. It is extremely rare when I have a bad experience at any Starwood property, and this time around it was typical five star experience.
The property is beautiful and well maintained with remodeling completed on five year intervals. The resort has everything one would need on a lengthy stay, gym, pools, spa, grocery market and other amenities. Basically you could stay on the property without leaving if desired, but why would you, staying on a beautiful island. The resort has three restaurants on the property, the Pailolo Bar and Grill, the Ocean Pool Bar and Grill and the Puelehu Italian Grill, each offering something different. For breakfast enjoy the Ocean Bar and Grill’s breakfast buffet, for poolside drinks and food stop in at the Pailolo Bar and Grill and for that special night of fine dining head over to Puelehu Italian Grill. We dined at each one, see my reviews for them for more details information. I liked the Pailolo daily drink specials, as well as their morning and afternoon happy hours.
The vilas range from a large studio up to a two bedroom apartment size vila, with all full equipment kitchens. They all have a separate shower and whirlpool tub with heavenly beds. We stayed in a studio for two weeks and it was perfect for a couple. It has a living room with a California king bed and a kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator and a washer and dryer. It’s about the size of a typical studio apartment. The décor within is modern and up to date. We typically stay in a one bedroom, but procrastinated and booked too late to reserve one.
The resort location is great too, if you want to stay on the west side of the island with access to beautiful beaches and everything else within an hour or two drive. There’s valet service for a reasonable fee or free parking attached to the main lobby.
The staff is fabulous in all areas and will do anything to make your stay comfortable, typically going out of their way with an Aloha attitude. The concierge service is exceptional, and we always made them work for us, after all we are on vacation to relax. They are very knowledgeable and know the secret spot of the island, and will share them if you ask.
I would definitely recommend for anyone to stay here even if you have littles ones, as they offer many services that will make make a memorable vacation.

This is an absolutely gorgeous property. Great for families or couples. The amenities are awesome, the rooms spacious, the kitchens have everything you need, the living areas are comfortable and why would you want to stay anywhere else? The pools are wonderful and you can enjoy the beach within steps of the resort.
The staff are friendly and helpful, parking is available and you can use their shuttle to go to the Sheraton or Westin Ka’anapali or into Lahaina town.
Lots of pool side seating, the jacuzzi’s are spacious and there’s even a BBQ area for you to enjoy.
