If a guy is looking for a traditional cut, this is your place.
No one will try to engage you in small talk or discuss the latest fashions with you, so I hope that’s what you want.
You’ll be in and out fairly quickly.
And if you ask for something that they don’t think will suit you, they have no qualms refusing you’re request.
The shop is run by a family, so it’s hours are based on their needs.

I DON’T recommend this place at all. How are you suppose to run a business when your closed most of the time. Their hours say 9−6pm but their always closing at 5pm. I know this because I’ve come here a few times around 5 and their closed. Besides that, their not really friendly and will rush you if the have a lot of people waiting.

Been going here for the past 7 yrs. they are also great with my 4yr old and always do a great job

I’ve been here twice and not satisfied either time. This last time was the clincher for two stars.
I asked for beard trim only. The lady barber seemed like this wasn’t what she wanted to do. I requested to have a one inch length from a three inch growth. I ended up with far less. Her electric shaver was dull or something because it hurt my neck as she shaved areas that I didn’t want shaved. My philosophy at this point in the trim was it will grow back I just wanted to get out of there. She seemed more interested in the army-​navy game she could see in the mirror.
Previously I had a haircut with another barber and his equipment seemed to pull my hair as well. I had simple butch style hair then and I needed to come home to cut stragglers poking out here and there. Please I’m not getting some sort of layer cut or a line up. Two on the side and three on top not difficult.
These guys dump the hair trimmings into the outside trash can. Somehow this seems wrong on a few levels. These are the closest place to my new house but I will never come here again.

They are never open for business.
I have been there 3 separate times over 3 months seeking a hair cut and there is always a sign stating they are on vacation.
I just called them to see if they were open and only got an answering machine.
It is 3:30 pm monday right now.
They do give good hair cuts.
Very disappointed…

I’ve been coming to this place for several years now and can’t say enough good thing about the team. All 3 are fast, efficient and I love the cut I get there. Waiting time is ok and the place is clean with plenty of parking nearby. A+++++

I’ve been coming to Modern Barber for the past 7 years for a haircut. Kevin and Jenny do a great job. They take care of their customers and have affordable prices. I’ll always support small business owners over the big name guys when I can.

They seemed quite busy, and dirty. I think being dirty is a result of being busy, usually. This facility is very old and looks it.
«Haircut» was quite inexpensive and they got me in after around 20 minutes so that wasn’t bad.
They trimmed more than any other stylist I’ve ever used like the little hairs that grow out of the ear or lobe and brows. I was very surprised at that.
They cut my hair way too short. I even had a visual aid for them, my drivers license, and they didn’t come close. It seemed everyone was getting the same cut but they weren’t as I heard the guy telling them how much after each cut and the price was different.
This was exactly like when I was in the marine corps. I could have done what they did with my own, very good, trimmers.
All of their cuts were on men and all were military fashion or very similar. In fact, I could pass marine corps personal inspection it was so short.

Great place, friendly staff, the shop is always clean. Been going there several years now and I seldom have had to wait long (which may be my luck picking the right times to go). Haircuts always look nice and their prices are very reasonable.

It is very hard to find someone who knows how to do a high-​and-​tight. For years, I would settle awful hair cuts because no one else could make a military cut look great. In 2007, I found this gem stone barber shop.
Jenny is the most talented barber I have ever come across. I never felt so great sporting that old, traditional high-​and-​tight hair cut, but Jenny somehow made it work.
This is one of the absolute best barber shops in east county San Diego, and one would never know it if he or she never dared to give this place a try. I tried it seven years ago, and I have never trusted anyone else since then.

Amazing place to get your haircut! And the customer service is just as spectacular, especially Jenny! I’ve been getting my haircut here since I got to San Diego, and I’m always satisfied with my experience at this establishment. (Jenny comes highly recommended on my behalf)

By far, our families favorite barber in town, always polite & courteous. We will support their family run business. Never a long wait & great pricing for location. Very clean too!

This is probably one of the cleanest and nicest barber shop in La Mesa. The workers there are very nice, and love to have conversations with you. They are very considerate of the customer and value customer service very much.
I get a haircut here every 2 weeks with Jenny, and it’s is money well spent. She has conversations with you, and gives you a very clean cut. I would totally recommend this place to any young males that want to keep up with current hairstyles!

I’ve gotten my haircuts from Ken for a couple years now. He always does an excellent job! The whole staff is friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend this barbershop to anybody looking for a good haircut at an affordable price.

I went to go see Jenny for a haircut and she really paid attention to my requests. She is very friendly, and the service was great! The barbershop is clean, and I was very satisfied with Jenny’s service and will definitely come back!

The price at the window says $ 10, after you finish they ask you for higher price ! It is false advertisement, sorry people I am not going there after today, don’t trust their price sign.

I should blame myself for not giving him better instructions. I’m sure he would of fixed it. Has always done well in the last few years I’ve gone.

My son and I have been getting our hair cut here weekly for the last 5 years. Wow, it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, but we were one of the first customers they had. I love Kevin and Ken, but I only allow Jenny to cut my hair and my son’s hair (even if the line is out the door). She’s had the magic touch since the first day and I never have to say a word about how I want my hair cut. The shop is always clean and everyone in there is always very respectful.
Sorry to read that someone had a bad experience, but that doesn’t seem to describe the atmosphere that I have experienced since the first day they opened their door.

I have been going there for about two years now, and have always been very happy.
The female you were speaking to Kevin about, is his wife Jenny.
I really wouldn’t give up on this place. Everyone has bad hair days, and this really is a top-​notch place to get a hair-​cut for a decent price. $ 10.50.
I highly recommend this place.

Congratulations! You have found the worst barber shop in town. The lady butchered my hair and insulted me by saying theres nothing she could do, my hairs too thin and suggested I go elsewhere… So I did. And the lady at supercuts did a great job and fixed me up. yeah. supercuts… A week later I stopped by to speak to the Manager Kevin and politely tell him my experience, I asked to speak to him in private but the lady that ruined my haircut kept intervening and being rude. Finally at the end the lady did apologize, however, but the Manager never offered anything else after the whole experience, not my money back or a free haircut. He just shrugged it off and said, «is that it?» Seriously one of the worst experiences Ive ever had… utterly horrible in every way… but i guess she apologized…
