Ono Steak & Shrimp

I came here because it had such great reviews. Although, I’m not sure what the people were smokin’ when they ate, cuz as much as I loved the place, loved the service. The food wasn’t ALL that great. I had the fish tacos and apparently its what everyone ordered… was I missin’ something? Did I get a bad batch of fish? Not sure but it was good, don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t seem like the best fish tacos ever created by man.
I do like the spot though, its off the highway in a small area of town. Pretty cool spot to come after a day at the beach or surfing or what not.

Came here because it got such good reviews on Unilocal but was disappointed…
Ordered the 8 oz steak & shrimp plate because well… its called ONO steak and shrimp… i ordered two plates w/​medium rare steak, brown rice, and salad.
Took one bite and the steak had literally zero flavor. I had to take it to go, so at home i added my own garlic salt & pepper. I mean honestly salt and pepper are the very basics; steak was inconsistently cooked as many of my pieces were BARELY pink and about half was cooked well done… shrimp was at least salty but meh, i wouldnt order the combo plate again. Even the salad was soupy and wilted. No thanks!
The only thing that was good about this plate was that the garlic butter that was spooned onto the shrimp soaked all in the rice.
Not to mention the girl who took my order was like «hi, what did you wanna order?» as she paid more attention to the boys behind the counter… and then looked at me blankly when im assuming she was supposed to ask me what options i wanted. (How to cook the steak, white or brown rice, salad dressing??? I mean really these are basics…) and when i asked for some little cups to take the sauces home, she delegated the task to the other boy working and when he asked her how many… she said «um idk why dont you ask her?» And never addressed me instead. Byyyee girl, never coming back here again.

Do yourself a favor if your staying at Aulani and have access to a car… drive the 7 minutes to this restaurant and get some great food at reasonable prices…
I got the steak and shrimp combo. The steak was nicely cut up for you, was perfectly cooked to a little more than medium rare, and very tender. The shrimp was likewise not overcooked and very tasty.

This used to be a nice place to go for take-​outs especially after work when I don’t have time to cook for my family. My husband likes their steak before, the taste of «well done» is always done right. What happened to the former staff? Today, we went for our usual well done 12 oz steak with extra mushroom on the side. Que horror! When we got home, both orders were burnt, salty, dry, like they were leftovers from the night before. The rice servings shrank down considerably. The soggy lettuce were old and buried underneath to camouflage the below par quality. Just a major disappointment, we won’t go back again. Ever. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen now is definitely not at par with the previous cook. Lucky I gave one star, that’s me still being generous.

I used to come here often, food was so delicious! But today I ordered take out and there was no sauce on the 4 plates I purchased! Two plates didn’t have dressing on the salad, I didn’t get any brown rice just all white (I asked for all
plates to be brown) — our steak was also over cooked. I’m very disappointed to see what used to be a good place falling apart. Makes you wonder. Where the management is?

The first few times we went here the steak and shrimp plates were good for the price. But recently it’s been getting worse. Today the quality of food is horrible. How difficult is it to NOT burn the steak? If it’s completely burnt, throw it away and cook a new one! Ridiculous. Will not return. And don’t recommend.

Small take out type place with some seating for eat in. Pictures of the plates you can order which I always find helpful being my first time. Cashiers were fast and had an efficient ordering system. Had steak, shrimp, chicken, rice and noodles. Everything was perfectly cooked and good sized portions. My only criticism would be the noodles were a little salty. Great place!

Friendly staff, and the chefs always hooking it up with portions. The steak and shrimp combo is bomb. Steaks are tender and juicy, and the butter sauce on the shrimp sets it off. Speedy service. Brown rice option would be nice, but overall good prices, great service and friendly staff :)

Been there twice and had the steak, shrimp and noodles. It was great both times and the staff is so professional and friendly, love the customer service!!! Place is always full of customers. Try it and you will not be disappointed. They make your food fresh when you order it, so it’s nice and hot.

This may be my favorite steak place right now. Only thing is that the last time my brown rice was mushy. A little buzz kill. But the steak is always awesome and extra tasty. I think it’s a decent price for the value we get but slightly more expensive than a blazing steaks. Regardless, I love this place and I make it a habit to come here at least once or twice a month now. Before I’d never come to a steak place like this but this changed my view. Love the fact that there’s never a chewy piece and always high quality steak pieces. Never feel cheated out of a bite.

Really greasy fatty food. The sauces aren’t amazing. I feel like I got all chicken fat honestly. Family got other meat, they enjoyed their food, but wasn’t worth it for tasteless fatty food and the price.

Decided to stop by since the reviews hyped me up. I wanted steak. I ordered a 12oz steak with the shrimp in garlic butter.
Now, I ordered it to be medium rare, despite the warning from another Unilocal review that it would not be cooked right. I thought hey, medium rare isn’t supposed to be cooked all the way anyway. Well, I regret it.
The steak was not cooked evenly. It was as if it were thrown on one of those electric coil burners. Some parts were cooked, some mushy.
That’s the other thing – it was mostly steamed and not grilled. I’m guessing the heat wasn’t sufficient, or the grill wasn’t cleaned, or too much sauce. Who knows?
Lastly, the steak had some weird seasoning. I wasn’t sure what they were going for, flavor-​wise. A little too salty as well.
The shrimp was good though. Can’t go wrong with garlic butter either.
All in all, if you’re hungry, want steak, and are also nearby, try it out and make it medium-​well. Maybe you’ll have a better steak. Just don’t get medium rare.

I rather like this place. It’s not super fancy or anything, but they have good food at an affordable price. Most of all, they are pretty consistent. I typically order their steak plate with rice and tossed salad. The steak has great flavor and is cooked well. Staff is friendly and efficient. You should stop by if you’re in the mood for an inexpensive meal.

We came here after a 5K run and they were not quite open yet. But, they let us in to sit & wait while they got the kitchen ready.
Not having been here before, the staff was extremely helpful in their recommendations & i gotta tell you, this food is ONO! The name doesn’t lie!
I ordered a 7oz steak& noodles. That steak does not need any sauce or seasoning. It was cooked to perfection!
And the noodles… I think it has spam, crab meat & fresh scallions on top. This was such a complex, yet delicious grouping of flavors that was just so tasty! I would highly recommend the noodles with anything you order here!
Not only that, this little spot was so clean that you could eat off the floor! Come try it out! You won’t regret it!

Great place to grab a steak plate when you’re craving steak, but not the price of a steakhouse restaurant. The 7oz steak/​shrimp place was enough for me and the 12oz steak/​shrimp place was enough for my boyfriend. I almost couldn’t finish the place, but I had to power through! The only downside was that the steak was extremely salty. I needed to guzzle down water after that meal. I can’t wait to try the chicken plate, and their other combo meals. It is worth more than one visit, so give it a try!

We ordered to mini plates which comes with one scoop or rice instead of two, one shrimp and one chicken.
The shrimp portion is 5 small shrimp for $ 6, chicken was a bit better in portion.

Kapolei has so many steak places! This one is located at the end of the Kapolei Shopping Center. Parking was ok, but usually weekends will get difficult to park nearby.
So they have different plate combinations of fish, shrimp, steak, chicken or noodles. Healthwise, the salad is pretty plain; it’s just lettuce with dressing. They offer the option to substitute brown rice for white rice. What my usual order is the mini chicken because there is no skin and it’s flavored pretty good. The steak is cooked to your liking (rare, medium rare, or well done!) Which I think is great. Customizing makes it fabulous!
Customer service is on point! (Oh snap! Look at me using the modern teen lingo!) They are always friendly and I feel their appreciation for having customers by their great attitude and their really good steak! Our order also comes out pretty fast far made to order!
The price is pretty good. It seems steep until you open the plate and wonder how long you will be able to finish it all in one sitting. I usually end up splitting the plate with my kids, be cause its a pretty generous helping.
One thing I found really interesting is they have a bible quote on their dry erase board. It’s like motivation of the day. It changes constantly through the week! It definitely explains their optimism and friendliness. I thinks it’s really great they have that to inspire not only staff but the customers!
Overall it’s a great on the go place to get food with great fast service.

I think their air is broken cause it is super hot in here. We got here arrived 1 placed our order it was ready in less than 5 mins. Steak was well seasoned and cooked to just how I asked it to be cooked. Salad on the other hand was a little brown so I chose not to eat that. Rice has a firm texture to it I just prefer mine a little more cooked I guess you can say. I do wish they would wear hair nets cause some of the girls have long hair and I would hate to find one in my food (which has been known to happen to me at different places I go). Refills Aren’t free so expect to pay .50 cent if you wanna refill before heading out the door. I think next time I’m over this way I’ll try it again and maybe with the shrimp this time.

Good prices and good food overall. I live close-​by so we come here when we want to pick up a quick lunch/​dinner. The plate lunches are always satisfying but I’ve had better. (My husband loves this place though.) They have a pretty basic menu and cook up your orders really fast which I like.
The steak is of good quality and flavorful. You get to choose what temperature you want it to be cooked. Whatever they marinate the steak in is perfect… I love the flavor! I will sometimes just order a full steak plate with just the rice and salad and I’m happy. They’re extremely generous on their portions so you won’t ever leave here feeling gypped by any means.
The shrimp is OK– my husband always orders the steak/​shrimp combo (which I’ve tried before) and it’s a good combination. I say the shrimp is just OK though because there’s nothing special about it. If you want good shrimp, I suggest you get a shrimp plate from a food truck in the North Shore, but then again, you definitely won’t regret getting the shrimp from Ono’s either.
The noodles are TOO salty. I’ve ordered it twice and I’ll probably never order it again. It tastes like they overload it with saimin seasoning.
My kids get the chicken from here and they love it, but to me, it’s lacking on the flavor side.
Customer service here is great! The ladies who work in the front are super friendly and I’ve even spoken to the cooks in the back who will sometimes give us our food and they’re really nice!

We came out here twice since the wife and kids loved the food. We’ve tried the chicken plate, steak plate, steak w/​noodles, shrimp, and even deep fried ice cream.
The steak was cooked to our liking. I like it medium, a little pink. My wife likes it well-​done. We had to ask them to cook my daughter’s a little more because she thought it was too pink, but they had no problems grilling it up more to her liking. The steaks are marinated in something that I thought gave it very good flavor. My wife and kids liked dipping theirs in the Korean sauce they have there. The owner let me try a special orange dipping sauce which looked like a combination of mayo and some other ingredient. It was tangy and salty which made it nice for dipping.
The first time my daughter ordered chicken, which she really enjoyed. Unfortunately they were out of chicken the second time we came. No worries, she ordered a steak plate and was still thoroughly satisfied.
Both times I ordered the 12oz steak and noodles. No danger of left overs for me. I’m a big fan of noodles, and I was pleasantly surprised with their noodles. It had a buttery taste to it that I liked. I also had a side of grilled shrimp; very tasty. It’s not on the same level as Giovanni’s on the North Shore, but good enough for me to eat 2 dozen of these bad boys!
All in all, this is a nice little local spot. Some may think 5 stars is a little generous, but we liked it enough to come back twice, left with nothing left on our plates, and thought the service was great. The young lady that took our order was very cheerful (not to mention cute) and the owner actually greeted us. Note, we were there about 30 minutes and I noticed he greeted and talked to a LOT of people. There seemed to be a lot «regulars» that drop by.
