Established in 2005.

I started Kauai Hiking Adventures to provide an alternative to the overly tired and redundant large group tours that are so common in Hawaii. As a world traveler myself, I have always sought low key, off the beaten path adventures and understand what visitors value when they seek a local guide.

We give our guests the opportunity to experience a part of Kauai that few others see. Our philosophy is to treat you the same way that we treat a friend who comes to visit. We share with you joyfully and fully what Kauai has to offer. There is nothing to conquer or prove — our hiking tours maximize fun!

Elisha from Kauai Hiking Adventures guided us on an fun-​filled day to the North side of Kauai. He was a last-​minute stand-​in as our original scheduled guide was called away for another group. We visited Hanalei town, went to Hanalei beach for kayaking and SUP, Tunnels beach for snorkeling. We saw a huge cave near Tunnels beach and then went to Queens Bath, a huge tide pool where we dove off the lava rocks into the water. Not quite 5 stars though — our snorkeling experience was not the best — equipment malfunction, murky water — and a mishap with a sea urchin — however Elisha did his best on short notice to accommodate us and that was much appreciated!

Dave took 4 of us to several spots and then hiked out Kalepa Ridge to a point to view the Napoli Coast, it was a most excellent experience.

My husband and I were interested in taking a hike while on our honeymoon in Kauai. We’re both in good shape, but we’re not serious hikers, and this was the perfect experience for us. David took us on a half day hike to Ho’opi’i Falls near Kapa’a, and it was one of the best experiences we had on the island! The two falls we hiked to were both beautiful, and David made us feel completely at ease, so much so that we didn’t hesitate to jump right in the first fall! David was extremely knowledgeable and told us lots of interesting stories about the plants, animals, and the island. The hike was just challenging enough without being too much. When we go back to Kauai we will definitely book with Kauai Hiking Adventures again!

What a perfect hiking experience for some novice hikers from a big city! My husband and I recently visited Kaua’i on our honeymoon. We knew while there, we wanted to get out and see some of the beautiful waterfalls this island has to offer. After some research online, I stumbled across Kaua’i Hiking Adventures’ website. And thank goodness I did… They offer personalized and private hiking adventures at a reasonable price. I coordinated with the company’s owner, David, only a few days before our hike was to take place. I told him we wanted to see some remote waterfalls where we could maybe do some swimming and (small) cliff jumping if possible. I also explained to him that although we are in pretty good shape, we are by no means avid hikers and did not want to do anything crazy challenging. David said he knew just where to take us, and that our guide would be Jennifer. Jennifer was awesome! We met here at the Kapaa Public Library at 8:00am the morning of. We hopped in her ride and took a quick five minute drive in to a secluded residential/​wooded area. From there she took us on what I’d call a «semi-​trail» where we hiked for about 45 minutes in to stunning woods to one of the most beautiful waterfalls I had ever seen — Ho’opi’i Falls. There was actually a second waterfall nearby that was only another 15⁄20 minute hike from there. The second waterfall was more conducive for an easy swim, and allowed us to get up near the falls easily… this spot also had a rope swing! It would be a great spot for those with kids. After some swimming and fun there, we headed back to Ho’opi’i Falls so that my husband and Jennifer could jump off its small cliffs (maybe 20 feet) in to the deep clear waters below. SO cool! Jennifer, sensing my husband’s apprehension, was thoughtful enough to climb down in to the water before hand to test the depth of the water and to ensure it was a safe place for my 6’5″ husband to jump. How awesome is that?! She obviously had our safety and comfort at the forefront of her mind the whole time. It was just a priceless experience, and one we’ll never forget. Overall, our experience with Kaua’i Hiking Adventures was absolutely fantastic! We would highly recommend them to anyone — whether a beginner or a pro at hiking. They have a ton of knowledge of the island, and will be sure to take you on an adventure that fits your skill set and desires. Hit them up! Be sure to ask for Jennifer as your guide!!!

My husband and I plan a lot of our travel around hiking — not super technical but challenging and we’ve learned it often pays to secure the services of a reputable local guide and we’ve hiked Kauai before and learned once you are off the NaPali coast trail the thick undergrowth and slippery clay inclines with very sudden and steep drop-​offs — it is challenging.
Scott was very accommodating in finding a trail that met our desires (not to far from where we were staying — but still challenging with some nice views and scenery along the way) — and communicated when’s and where’s great. He met us as directed on-​time and was warm and possesses a great energy.
Scott clearly has made an effort to know Kauai — and shared great information about the land, history and especially the amazing plantlife that surrounds you. He also let us feast on the strawberry guava that were in season along the trail.
One comment we did share with Scott was that it would have been a more enjoyable hike has we known to bring (or at least been warned) long pants or some sort of leg protection (longer socks) as for a long section of the hike the dry fern underbrush was very unpleasant though completely manageable and he did help one of us come up with a creative and effective solution when it did get to be a bit too much.
I suspect for the local market, Scott and his team are «Excellent» — though not quite as polished in overall client prep as some other places we’ve been.
But we’d absolutely recommend him to our friends.

Scott is awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed hiking with him on 2 different occasions during my stay on Kauai. He is hip and I felt a really genuine love of nature from him, as well as a true concern for your well being and enjoyment. His daughter is amazing too. So happy to see someone doing what they love. Kauai Hiking Adventures. Ahhh. I have been too Kauai eleven times for vacation, two weeks at a clip. I can’t say I have done every adventure on Kauai, as there is much to this island, but I can say that Scott from Kauai Hiking Adventures took me (us) on a jaw dropping, unforgettable adventure… Twice. If you are going to Kauai, you will be doing yourself a favor by booking with him. If you are filming the next Jurassic Park, taking photos for National Geo, doing a high end feature of Discovery HD, or looking for that unforgettable adventure, Scott is the man. He knows where and when to go, what to see, and is more knowledgeable than anyone I have met on this island. And he listens and will tailor your experience to your personal limits. If you have a toddler, you can trust it will work. If you are hard core, you can trust it will work.
Unless it is April. Don’t book with him in early April. That is when we will be there next, and we get first dibs.
