Shoddy service. Not surprised it closed. Really too bad. There were some great choices on his menus.

R. Stanley’s is decent. The service was good and the food was pretty good, but nothing really stood out. My main issue was the atmosphere. It was LOUD in there. So loud I couldn’t hear the people sitting directly next to me. Also, the lights were so dim it was difficult to see anything. I would have understood those things more if it was evening but this was a regular Tuesday afternoon lunch. R. Stanley’s was close to my home and workplace in Kalamazoo so I went there occasionally but I much preferred other options like SummerThyme, right down the road.

Have to give R Stanley’s my review since they are one of the few great restaurants in Kzoo without pretention. GREAT: fish & chips, cuban sandwich, french fries, décor, service, R Stanley himself — what a nice guy! While they’re known for their deserts, those aren’t my fav; they have some sort of chemical thing going on that I can’t put my finger on. Keep up the greatness!

I used to eat at R Stanley’s when it was still in Three Rivers. I ate at it when it moved to Kazoo. Now I will have to mourn its passing, as I just heard that it’s closing. It was a wonderful restaurant, and will be missed.(A moment of silence for those fabulous desserts, please…)

This place is fan-freakin-tastic. We didn’t expect much, being in a little remote strip mall in east Kalamazoo, but holy cow they delivered on every possible level. The servers were great, friendly, fast and helpful. The food was simply awesome. The place is a class act all the way, with a nice little patio to boot, with a nice mix of jazz and trance-y stuff playing over the speakers. The inside is decorated as tastefully as anywhere you’d find in Chicago. Great great cajun food, with bigass portions, and the desserts are worth the trip alone. Hell, even their tap selection is great. Viva la Oberon! I am going to make a point to get here next time I am in the area. If this place was in a big city it would totally be a hotspot.
