New location in storefront. Good fast Indian take out. Had the spinach chicken korma… Would be called spinach saag in other Indian restaurants I have been.

mediocre, overpriced indian food. They have now moved into a storefront, but their food is not worth the price. My complaints are: 1. They do not use real Indian Basmati Rice. This is a joke, I mean, its one of the requirements for authentic Indian food. 2. My fish dinner included about 5 bite sized pieces of fish swimming in a pool of curry sauce. Well flavored, but hardly a dinner. 3. No more salad. I am used to eating Indian food, and some tomatoes and onions are generally par for the course… 4. One of few pricey establishments that still serve styrofoam. I am sorry, but I dont get what I am paying for here. Its a plate lunch. The going rate for plate lunch is between $ 6 – 8. SO the added some spices and shrank the size of the meat, cut back on the rice, took the salad and voila. Overpriced, reheated, mediocre at best Indian Food. Save your money or spend the same amount at any one of the real Indian restaurants in Town.

For Kailua, the prices for India Café Curry on Wheels are quite reasonable. The server in the truck is very nice. The problem is that the food is mediocre. I really wanted this to be one of our regular spots since we love Indian food so much. Alas, it ranks below the worst Indian food we’ve had in the Bay Area. Such a disappointment.

So, another lunch option in Kailua. Awesome, except that I won’t be working in Kailua for much longer. But you don’t care about that. Being a fan of the restaurant off Kapahulu, I was stoked to hear they brought a lunchwagon to Kailua. It’s located in the parking lot of Don Quixote near the post office. The food is ok. Somehow it’s not as good as in the restaurant(I’ll admit this is somewhat inconsistent with my insistence in my review of the restaurant that reheating food is ok in the world of Indian cuisine). Go figure… Regardless, I’m still happy there is an Indian food place period in Kailua. We ordered the«ultimate vegetarian plate” — three choices for $ 9 instead of two choices for $ 8. I’m a bit irritated that the roti bread doesn’t come with it– $ 2 bucks extra for one piece. We got two pieces. So for $ 13 we got plenty of food for two people. If I was eating here by myself, the two choice plate and one roti would be $ 10– add a drink and it becomes a very expensive lunch. I guess they need to charge a lot since their rent for a tiny patch of otherwise unused portion of the parking lot is reportedly 13 grand a month– outrageous! I don’t think it’s possible to sustain that kind of nonsense. Finally, if anyone from India Café is reading this– please spare me the crappy ass pre-bagged iceberg lettuce salad with no-taste dressing in your plates from now on– just put more rice if you need to fill up space. Oh yeah– I forgot, at least they give you a 10% off coupon to use at the Kapahulu location when you eat here. That’s pretty cool…
