I went to EYE Q Optical to get two pair if prescription glasses, one a normal one and the other one was a sun glasses.
Overall, I think Susan was great, kind and thorough with her work, I love her work and will recommend to people who are nearby the area.
I have taken a star away due to the following reasons:
1. Frame selections are normal.
2. Interface with clerk was a bit «cold», a more smile face from him would be much appreciated!
3. You need to drive around to find a parking spot.
I would give 4.5 stars but that’s not an option here :)

I had a wonderful experience. The staff was very helpful and super friendly! I had a thorough eye exam with Dr. Susan who did an amazing job. She took the time to make sure I was comfortable with my new contacts. I would highly recommend their services.

WORST eye doctor experience by far! Went in the store in JP for contact lenses exam and bought contact lenses afterwards. The front desk people were not friendly. Doctor was ok, eye exam was standard, the doctor ordered contact lenses trail after the test. My insurance did not cover the exam fee so I paid the exam fee and contact lenses trails fee which was $ 120(which is reasonable for a contact lenses exam). I came in a week later for contact lenses fitting. However the contact lenses they ordered were under prescripted, I couldn’t see and everything is blurry. Doctor was not there that day so I scheduled another time to come in. Went in for the third time and finally got a pair of contact lenses that work. Ordered a 90 day lenses (daily) and 1 pair of monthly lenses trail through them my insurance covers $ 150, used my insurance and paid the excess amount (less than 20) in cash. Paid additional fee for the 90 day supply to ship it to my house and told them I would like to come in to try the monthly lenses trail. Days later, received my 90 day lenses in a well packed box and weeks later received my monthly lenses trail in an TORN ENVELOPE! I made very clear that I would like to come in and try my monthly as I had experience with you guys where contact lenses you guys ordered did not fit! Mail to me? Fine. Can’t find a box to mail the lenses? Unacceptable! And 2 Month later received a letter with ADDITIONAL CHARGE of $ 185 through mail under the name of David. Called in and was told this is fee for eye exam and the$ 120 I paid was for contact lenses. And David is another name of the clinic. Hello?!! I didn’t receive and service from DAVID. The doctor was a FEMALE! And isn’t your place named EYE Q? DO NOT recommend going there!

Went into the store and the clerk was on a phone call. When she hung up and said hello, the phone rang again. She picked up the phone and talked with this customer while I stood there. I work in a public service job where we always help the person in front of us before we take a phone call. Callers can go to voice mail and we call back when there is no business.
I mentioned that I came because I have vision insurance. She said they couldn’t help me with that unless I had a card from the provider. Later the same day I went into another optical shop, they logged into the insurance company’s web site, verified my coverage and filled my prescription. Definitely not going back to EyeQ.

Quickest, nicest and most efficient doctor/​eye check up ever. My appointment was at 3, I started writing this at 3:20. The machines are basically robots and I left with free contacts. JP is so good.

This really was the smoothest glasses purchasing experience I have ever had. I was immediately helped upon strolling into the shop, prescription in hand. The man who helped me picked out some frames that would suit my prescription, face, and preference, and didn’t pressure me towards anything in particular.
The designs are great. I wound up settling on a set I loved from the start. I’ve never instantly found a set I genuinely love. Normally it’s more like «eh, good enough… I guess…»
In picking out the lens options, he offered me glass with middle-​of-​the-​road refractive index. Also pointed out the high refractive index glass which would have been much more expensive, but I was not pressured to select that. Glasses purchased with the help of an amazon local deal 20 minutes after walking into the store = awesome.
Two days later, I got a phone call saying my glasses were ready. They look, feel, and work great. Great place. Support your local business — if they have their act together like this place, you’ll do much better than at a big chain.

I too have the Amazon Local $ 9 for $ 200 voucher, but was a touch hesitant to visit Eye Q JP after reading some of the previous reviews. I’m happy to say that my appointment and interaction with the front desk staff and Dr. Cheng was pleasant, informative and very helpful. I didn’t catch the name of the person that greeted me, but she was personable and kind, assisted me with multiple pairs of eyeglasses and promptly answered any questions that I had. (I was also offered the additional deal for the discounted second pair.) Dr. Cheng was thorough, listened to my questions carefully and explained each step of the exam. I didn’t pull the trigger on the glasses — I needed a second opinion! — but I left happy and satisfied with the experience. Their prices do seem to be on the steep side, but I’m happy to keep the business within our community and I plan to return soon to complete the purchase. I will absolutely recommend Eye Q JP in the future.

I found a deal in amazon local, $ 9 for a 200 dollar voucher towards a complete pair of prescription glasses. Before purchasing the voucher I checked their website and read some reviews. Sounded like a good place, so I decided to purchase the deal. 2 months later I went to EYE Q to purchase my pair of glasses! Melissa who works there was super nice and helpful (since I went by myself she helped me pick out 2 pairs)! Not only did I get wonderful customer service, but Melissa offered me a second amazon voucher. Frames are a bit pricy for them not to have name brand glasses, but they seem to have good quality glasses. Looking forward to picking up my 2 pairs of glasses in a few days. WONDERFUL PLACE, CUSTOMER SERVICE, and CONVENIENT LOCATION.

I had a great experience with Eye Q. It was my final stop of a day-​long search for new glasses and so glad I powered through to this spot. The two sales people working were friendly and helpful with their suggestions. I can be indecisive when shopping and really do not enjoy shopping. After my hemming and hawing one of the salespeople tells me to: «Hold on. I have something in the back you might like.» She shortly returns with the perfect pair of glasses. She explained that it was a prototype of a style due to released in Spring 2014. Say what? I get to set the trend?! Oh, hell yeah. But the glasses really are awesome and the store’s brand. And because the frames were a prototype, I got them for a ridiculously low price. After my insurance kicked in it was a practically freel. Best of all, because of a promotion, I was given the option of selecting a second pair of frames for FREE. Umm, hell yeah. I couldn’t decide what I wanted for my second free pair, so the salesperson made a note in my record that I had a free pair available to me. She told me to come back whenever to select my pair_​no rush.
Fast forward nearly two months later. I stroll into Eye Q to ask them to adjust my friend’s glasses which Melissa, salesperson, does happily despite my friend having never been a patron of the store. I tell Melissa that I have a free pair of frames to select and while I am perusing the selection, she recommends that I consider a pair of prescription sunglasses. MIND BLOWN. For whatever reason in my five years of glasses wearing, purchasing a pair of prescription sunglasses never dawned on me. It was the best suggestion ever. Melissa then recommended a set of frames that looked great. Lucky me, I was purchasing the pair of glasses after my vision insurance renewed and got the prescription for very little money. So, I ended up with two pairs of complete glasses for less than $ 100.
Seriously, the customer service was stellar. Two great recommendations by two separate sales persons on two separate visits. Must have a great staff.

The owner reached out and offered to replace the glasses and also gave my husband a free pair of prescription sunglasses.
A few months later, the glasses had the same problem again, and chipped. Eye Q replaced the glasses, but said they won’t replace them again if it happens. So far so good, and it was nice of the owner to reach out to us.

Awesome service and glasses! I have 2 pairs now and both rule.

I recently revisited Eye Q and have to bump them up a star. They’re still kind of expensive, but are comparable to other brick and mortar eyeglass shops. They have some very cool frames, and the customer service is simply exceptional. The two folks working when I visited were simply awesome. Super helpful, tactful, clever, and fun. I was totally impressed. My next pair of shades will likely be from Eye Q, if I can make it back during their incredibly inconvenient business hours. Which is my only complaint. Closed on Sundays and only open until 5 on Saturday. During the week that close early too.

I agree with everyone that the eye exams are very thorough and the optometrist (Jana) very nice, but it took two visits to get the right prescription, causing the ripple effect of three pairs of lenses at Harvard Square Eye Care (see related review there), a process which took two months start to finish to get a comfortable pair of glasses. In the meantime, closest Eye Q store in the South End went out of business, necessitating trip to JP for prescription re-​do. I went to Harvard Square Eye Care for frames and lenses liking their selection and frame styles better and also for my Harvard Pilgrim discount, which in reality was a small discount off frames only. I would advise others to stay with one store for exam and glasses start to finish in case you run into the difficulties I did it would be much easier to resolve.

I think the products that Eye Q offer are wonderful. They have a really nice selection of glasses & contacts but their customer service skills are lacking and the atmosphere is sterile at best. The attendant who helped me was rude and not helpful and the doctor was apathetic and dull. They have a chip on their shoulder and need to be nicer to their customers

Wandered in one afternoon because my Ray-​Ban sunglasses (bought elsewhere) were missing a screw. Super friendly guy at the counter scrounged around for one that would fit, and even asked if I cared if the replacement screw was silver rather than gold. He tightened all the other screws as well, and then adjusted my sunglasses to fit my face better!
All of this totally free. Amazing. I know where I’m going next time I need glasses.

Eye Q is the most comfortable and intimate store, they make me feel that my business is most important and they take utmost care. I went in to order my second pair glasses yesterday and then early this morning, I realized that I wanted to change the order slightly. I emailed Eye Q and at 10:05 this morning I was contacted to discuss the change. Now that is service!

I started going to Eye Q in Harvard Square not too long after they opened. Lucky me, they decided to open shop in JP, so I go there now. This is a review of my experiences in both stores, over many years.
The exams are thorough: they really spend time tweaking you prescription to get it right, and will take extra efforts if any issues arise. All of the optometrists are among the best I’ve seen, and unfortunately I’ve had glasses since fifth grade so that’s a hell of a lot of optometrists we’re talking about.
The frames are AWESOME and unique and flattering and fab and you will not find them anywhere else.
And best of all, the store staff is sooooo good I now can’t imagine going anywhere else. They really know how to look at your face & style and hook you up with frames that suit you. And they will be honest, in the nicest possible way. Do those frames make your nose look like a potato? They tell you! Do the red frames make you look like your 80 year old granny? They tell you! If your glasses could make your butt look big, I’m pretty sure they’d tell you. And then they direct you to glasses that transform you to to pre-​Brad Angelina. Or pre-​Angelina Brad, if you like. Really. I think they guarantee that.
AND BEST OF ALL, they run great specials and bargains– 2 for one, groupon, etc. Oh, if everything in life were this good…

Eye Q in JP is amazing. I had been going somewhere else, but my roommate dragged me with her when they were having a great sale, and not only did I get a great deal, but they were amazing. The staff is incredibly supportive and gently guides you toward the right pair, but they’re not overbearing and generally incredibly low-​key. They genuinely want to help you find the right pair.
When I came to pick them up after only a few days, the person working was amazing, and he sized my glasses more quickly than anyone ever — he did it in about three minutes flat.
I’m absolutely going back for my contacts/​glasses needs, and I’m recommending this place to all my friends. I’m incredibly satisfied with my purchase, and impressed with the quality and professionalism of the staff.

I called last week to set up an appointment and was able to get one the following day. My exam with Yana was both thorough and comfortable (though the dilation part is never my favorite). I brought eyeglass frames (not from Eye Q) and they were happy to make the lenses. Paul was honest about the compared cost of contact lenses both through them and online, and he itemized my receipts and prescriptions so that they weren’t complete gibberish.
In the world of small opticians and large chains, this kind of honesty and friendly service is outstanding!
As an added bonus, Eye Q accepts most insurance plans. It’s true.

I recently got my first pair of glasses at Cambridge Eye Doctors They didn’t last, the prescription was wrong and the experience just generally sucked. It was more like being in a mattress sales cattle call as opposed to a situation of medical necessity.
Then I remembered that I did some work about ten years ago for Eye Q and that the owner told the crew «if you ever need glasses come see us». So I did.
Upon entering the very cozy JP store I was greeted enthusiastically by the two friendly and helpful staff members. Since I had called ahead I was in the exam chair pretty much immediately.
After a VERY thorough examination and a look at the crappy glasses that I got at the «my first glasses» store, It was determined that I’m getting old, the original prescription was way off and progressive lenses might be the answer to my woes. OK, done deal. Sign me up. Next step:
Now I have a giant fat head. «off the rack» glasses do not fit me, ever. Luckily Steven, who I believe is the branch manager in JP also has a large noggin and he was able to narrow my search down to the five or so frames that fit his similarly sized melon, which saved a huge amount of time in finding the perfect frame. We both picked a nice looking frame that was strong enough for my occupation but also really nice looking and comfortable. This was a case where I thought I wanted something else, but this guy was totally honest about it, told me how bad it looked and directed towards something more appropriate for my situation. His advice was humorous and never condescending and that was appreciated.
Right as the transaction was winding down, I mentioned that the owner had offered me some sort of consideration about ten years ago. Steven gave him a call and within minutes I was hooked up big time. Even without that aspect, this was a total success and I will continue to be a patron of Eye Q whenever I need new specs.
Also, there was a gentleman working there when I picked up the glasses who was also super nice and helpful.
