Fancy Schmancy

I have a pretty low maintenance dog– a 15 pound medium-​haired dachshund– who doesn’t need a whole lot of fancy grooming. We groom her ourselves most of the time, but every few months it’s nice to get a professional to deal with her long tail and ears. After trying a few places, it’s clear that even though Fancy Schmancy is a little pricier, they do the best work. Laika always looks perfect, and whatever product they put on her keeps her looking, feeling, and smelling like she’s just been groomed for two weeks.

I brought my dog in to get her nails trimmed not too long after they first opened. It was at least a few months though. The groomer put her up on their grooming table and I was kind of horrified by how unstable it seemed. The table looked as stable as an ironing board. My dog shakes when she’s nervous. She’s a 60 lb 11 year old golden retriever. She’s a sweet dog but she was shaking and the ironing board like grooming table was shaking so badly that I offered to come back there and hold her while the groomer worked. The groomer was better able to trim her paw hair and was very quick and efficient once I steadied the table but I didn’t feel comfortable with that set up to bring her back for future grooming.

I’ve been taking my two senior dogs (one Aussie and one Cockapoo) to Fancy Schmancy ever since they opened and I could not be happier with their services. Fancy Schmancy provides great customer service (Nancy and Kenny are both sweethearts) and takes such great care of my two old stubborn pups. I take my pups here every 6 weeks and I am always happy with the haircuts my pups get. Every time I come to pick up my pups, I can tell they’re happy and were taken care of during their stay.
I have gone to two other dog grooming places in Boston (JP and Dorchester) and they do not do as good of a job as Kenny does. Kenny always listens to how I want my dogs’ hair cut and he does a great job doing it. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for dog grooming!

My dog and I love this place for daycare services. Fancy Schmancy has been so loving and attentive to my little rescue who had mild separation anxiety. They’ve played a pivotal part in Sebastian’s training. He is getting better and better because he has a safe alternative in Fancy Schmancy. Sebastian is always excited about going to day care, clearly feels cared for by Nancy and Kenny, and loves the distraction of other doggie friends! We’ve also taken advantage of the grooming services on site. Both the full grooming and washing have been great experiences!

We LOVE this place! We bring our dog here for grooming and day care and we’re starting to think our dog doesn’t want to come home every afternoon. The folks here truly care for their dogs and treat our dog like their own. They do a great job with grooming and I give them huge credit for putting up with our little rascal. Our dog is pretty finicky but they always do a great job. Fancy Schmancy is our new favorite dog spot.

Horrendous hair cut. I brought my Cocker Spaniel here to be groomed, and the result was the single worst haircut I’ve ever seen on a dog. Kenny didn’t listen to a word of my instructions. He didn’t even seem to understand them. He didn’t even touch the head, so I had to cut that myself. There were clumps of hair hanging off that I also had to fix. Despite my request that he taper the line from top to bottom, he created a sharp line that I know have to fix myself as well. The only reason I gave this place two stars instead of one was that Nancy was extremely nice and apologetic. But I can’t imagine going back there while Kenny is still the groomer.

I have a 15 lb little dog, and I’ve never been asked to come in and help during a grooming appointment. After 3 hours, I was called and asked to come hold the dog while they finished her head because «She’s trying to bite everyone.» Never had that report from any groomer before! I went in to hold her for the next 30 minutes while they tried to finish her ears and head, which — admittedly — were matted. We have a newborn baby at home and getting to the groomer took longer than expected.
When I got there (over three hours at the groomers already clocked), her head wasn’t done like they said. Neither was her body, her tail, or her feet. She had been cleaned and buzzed down on her body, but her hair was uneven all over the place. While I held her for the ears, she ended up with a cut on one ear from the hair being pulled (matted). After that, they said the dog had had enough and they didn’t want to keep going with her so upset and asked me to come back on Monday. On my way out, I tried pulling some of the dog hair off of my shirt and the owner explained «You’d think we’d have a lint roller or something, but we don’t.» Nice.
Back on Monday and held her the whole time, but her ear started bleeding from the pulling again within minutes and the groomer didn’t want to do anymore to avoid hurting her. But he evened out the body, did the tail, and clipped her nails while she was there. Asked me to come back the next morning. I’m on paternity leave (otherwise I’d be working), and don’t want to waste any more time with my newborn son hoping that I can help them get their job done.
I’m confused — am I the one getting paid for this grooming, or them? Never had a grooming turn into a 3 day project before which I had to be hands-​on for. See photo of my dog after they sent us home the first time. I have to wonder what was actually done for 3 hours that first day, since her head, body, feet, and tail were all left undone until the next visit.

If you are looking for a great groomer look no further! I have brought Walden here 4 times so far and they absolutely love him (especially Nancy’s sister!). She even wrote him an I MISS YOU card since she wasn’t going to be there last time I brought him in. I adopted Walden in April and he is very skittish around other dogs so I was worried the first time I left him. My fears we alleviated when Nancy started texting me pictures of him socializing with other dogs! Prices are great, staff is great. Please help support this great local JP business. (BTW I just voted you guys Best Business in JP in the Gazette survey!)

24 hours ago I learned what I should have known: goose poop and white dog is not a good mix. Add some swamp mud and she looked… well, she NEEDED some grooming SOONER rather than later. The very nice people at Fancy Schmancy agreed to fit her into their schedule on very short notice; in spite of (or because of) how she smelled ! They were patient, gentle and respected my knowledge of my dog’s personality quirks. It was a thoroughly positive experience for her & me. I intend to return for assisted bathing, so I can bathe her myself, next time. While I was there I observed the attention and care they gave to the dogs boarding there for the day. Unlike, other doggie day care places I have witnessed, these dogs were pampered and played with, while the owner of the shop maintained healthy and safe boundaries for the dogs. Very impressive ! I highly recommend them.

We have been twice so far with our dog Chance. The staff are so kind and patient with our dog, who is a nervous wreck. They also accommodate us with end-​of-​day appointments so he is in and out as quickly as possible, and it generally takes about 2 hours. Thank you to Kenny and Nancy for your hospitality!

I had become very dissatisfied with the groomer that I have been using to trim the nails on my 100+ lb dog. The new groomer they had hired was obviously uncomfortable handling a large dog and did a terrible job. So, I went on Unilocal and found Fancy Schmancy. Though there have only been a few reviews so far, they were all very positive so I thought I would give them a try.
When I called I got the answering machine, however, after leaving a message my call was returned the same afternoon. I specified that my pooch is a Cane Corso, since I know some groomers are not crazy about handling large dogs. To my happy surprise, they sounded very happy about taking care of Rocco and I wound up setting an appointment to have him get the full beauty treatment.
Saturday a.m., I brought Rocco in and Nancy let me in a few minutes before the official opening time. She was really great with Rocco right away, so I went off to enjoy a coffee and some «mommy time». A little over an hour and a half later, I got a call that Rocco was ready, but I needn’t hurry, since it seems that they were very much enjoying Rocco’s company.
Other than having my dog’s nails trimmed I have never given much thought to having him groomed, since all he really needs is to be bathed. However, now I am seriously considering having him given the full magilla once a month.
Thank you Nancy and Fancy Schmancy. Rocco looks great, obviously had a great time with you and I feel like I can leave my big goofball with you to have him well taken care of and squeaky clean.

I have a young rescue who is still very new to me. They were so kind to ensure we both felt comfortable before I left my little pup to be groomed. They didn’t sell me services we didn’t need and when I returned I remembered I forgot to ask for a trim for her in one spot. Kenny took care of it right on the spot — literally and figuratively. These guys are great and we will be back!

I love this place! More importantly, my dogs love it, too. We have used the day-​care services and have found the dogs get lots of loving care and have great fun. We have also used their grooming services, which are outstanding.

I really like this place. They are punctual (was a problem at my last place) and do very good work. The groomer has been very patient with my specific requests and clearly takes pride in doing a good job.
I’m glad this they are nearby and look forward our next visit.

Was excited to hear that a dog groomer opened in the neighborhood and was very pleased with the services. They were accommodating and were able to fit me in the same day that I called. The space is beautiful and spotless! I felt so comfortable leaving Remy there. My little papillon mix came back in less than two hours looking amazing and very happy. I especially like the way they listened to exactly how I preferred Remy to be groomed. Reasonable prices and great service– would highly recommend dog owners give this place a try!
