I had purchased a Living Social deal for a chimney sweep. The technicians were on-​time and didn’t make a mess which is rare in the service industry. Upon arrival, one of the technicians started working and the other started trying to sell me $ 1,500 worth of work he claimed I needed. I was disappointed he never went on my roof to inspect the chimney but he claimed I needed all kinds of work up there. He also claimed that the factory grate was no good because it wasn’t tall enough. Oddly enough, they sell grates too. Hmmm. The tech that was working simply ran a brush up my flue a couple times and vacuumed my firebox. I could have done this myself and saved money. I thought I was paying for the cleaning AND inspection. I didn’t appreciate the attempt at upselling me right off the bat. I realize my chimney may need some work but the scare tactics will not get my attention. My BS detector was going off big time with these guys. My thinking is that they use these Living Social deals to get in the door to provide a quick chimney sweep and then try to sell you on costly repairs. I would use caution by hiring this company.
As a side note, the voucher I purchased from Living Social was marked redeemed by the vendor before I had a chance to call and schedule a time. Maybe a honest mistake? Maybe their way of cashing in for unsuspecting people who forget about their vouchers. It doesn’t sit well with me. I will not use them again.

We moved into our new house and wanted to get our chimney cleaned. Jeffrey and Aaron were extremely polite, knowledgeable and efficient. A very honest guy who cares about his profession and customers. I would use him again in a second. Highly recommend.

«Fool me once… fool me twice…» In my experience, the staff is polite, if you can reach them, but the company is completely unreliable and very poor at communication both internal and external.
I had difficulty getting a callback/​answer when trying to make my first appointment; I was told that someone had a baby and things were a little chaotic. After taking time off work, I received two calls from the techs, one to let me know they were running late, and then that they weren’t going to make it at all but that they could try to get me in the morning of ¹⁰⁄₃₁. When I received a call from the scheduler trying to set-​up my next appointment, I was informed that nothing was put in the system for me so I could either lose more time from work or wait another month to get them out on a Saturday. After being reassured they would make this appointment (they had another missed appointment in the area), I reluctantly agreed to take more time off work and give them another chance on ¹⁰⁄₂₉. To date, I have not received any calls from the techs or the owner regarding the *second* missed appointment. My inquiries with the scheduler were met with, ‘I’ll ask them and call you back’ but I would have to call back as I never heard anything, for hours, and was finally told that the owner’s wife went into labor earlier that afternoon and things were chaotic.
Unless you are willing to risk PTO on a hope that they will show, I do not recommend taking time off work for their service and I cannot vouch for their service as they never showed up on either day I took off work. Given that other people have had positive experiences, it is possible that I fell into some bizarre blackhole of timing during their busy season where every time I called someone had a baby and they all decided to stop talking to each other and, by extension, me. Caveat emptor.

I checked Unilocal before buying a Groupon for their Chimney Cleaning service and thought I would be getting excellent service from this company based on the great reviews. I scheduled an appt via email because their voice mail was full when I tried calling 2 or 3 times to book an appt. (should probably have been a sign). Amanda from FACTS emailed me that I’m confirmed and gave me a 4 hour window for my appt. She also said I would receive a reminder call a day before and a call from the technician ½ hour before they come. I got neither phone call, and nobody showed up!!! About an hour after my ‘window’, I called them and left a message (mailbox wasn’t full that time) and emailed them as well to let them know nobody showed up! A few days passed and no phone call nor email to apologize for whatever happened that day. I asked Groupon for a refund. This experience really makes me question the validity of some of these 5-​star reviews. What a waste of my time!!!

Had a great experience with this company. Came out very fast, faster than I expected. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the profession. They made several recommendations to improve the efficiency of the fireplace and general repair but were not pushy. I was surprised I knew so little about my fireplace.

Purchased their Living Social deal. Called and scheduled an appointment. They had a two week lead time, understandable at this time of year. They called 45 minutes before they arrived. They came in, did the job and kept everything clean. They gave me a few recommendations, but no high pressure sales tactics. Polite and friendly. Would recommend to others.

We recently moved into a new house and had Jeff and his team out to inspect our chimney. It is an old house and the chimney hasn’t been used in years. They did a very thorough check and found that we needed to rebuild part of the chimney. Had we not done this we could have been in danger of it falling.
They were very responsive to all calls and questions. We scheduled the work and he and his team were out quickly. They took care of everything. They kept things incredibly clean throughout the entire process. We felt incredibly comfortable having them in our house and have already recommended them to our neighbors.
We would recommend Jeff and his team to anyone.

Jeff came to my place in Oak Park via a good referral. Jeff did a great and thorough job. He not only cleaned my chimney flu but took the time to educate me on all aspects of my chimney from safety to function. We created a long term plan for maintenance and updating and I believed his estimates to be knowledgeable, fair, honest and competitive. I would highly recommend Jeff and intend to use him for all of my future fireplace and chimney needs.

My wife and I use our fireplace all the time in the late fall/​winter/​early spring. Last time we got a full inspection on our fireplace was two years ago. Fortunately, we found a Groupon for Fireplace & Chimney Tech Services.
These guys were great! My fireplace was horribly dirty from soot, and tons of ash on the floor of the fireplace. There dry vac was working overtime from the large amount of ash and soot in my fireplace.
They were very patient and friendly, and gave me some good advice on future fireplace repairs.

Great service from start to finish! Jeff (the owner) is the one who answers the calls, the job foreman, and is extremely knowledgeable. He walked me through the whole process and helped the hubby and I with the purchase. The two techs (I will go as far to Mary Poppins it and say chimney sweepers) on his team were professional and even kind when bucket of soot littered my fireplace from the previous occupants that probably never cleaned it. I would (and HAVE!) recommend this business to any of friends. Do it now — before the temps start going down.

Jeffrey and Aaron were professional, prompt, and reasonable. They fixed a big problem that would be dangerous if we waited too long. They came out on the first day we called and now we can do laundry again. Also very honest on their pricing and told me how to prevent other issues. Highly recommended!

If I could give extra stars for Fireplace & Chimney Tech I absolutely would!!! I needed my dryer vent majorly cleaned out and with the length of the duct work I wasn’t able to get it myself, so I made some calls and found Fireplace & Chimney Tech had the best prices around and they were able to come out early the next day. The clog was so bad my brand new dryer would not run for more than 5 minutes without the safety feature shutting it down so the situation was somewhat dire.
Jeff, the owner, and his cousin Aaron called to let me know they were on their way and arrived on time and ready to go. Before doing any work Jeff was very thorough in explaining what they would be doing as well as what should be done going for on a preventative maintenance scale. Because the clog was in an area that was tough to access they had to do a little extra to make sure they cleared it out so that the dryer operated efficiently and safely. As they broke through the clog there was a lot of debris that came flying out of my vent and they made sure they went the extra mile to ensure it was safely cleaned out and ready to use. Jeff made sure to explain in detail the hazards and preventative maintenance steps to ensure the vent does not get clogged in the future along with recommending parts that should be installed on the outside so that no birds are able to nest in the future.
However they didn’t stop there, Jeff took a look at my fireplace and noticed some issues there as well and gave some recommendations on what to do to improve safety and efficiency. Because of the great work they did with the dryer vent it was a no brainer to have them sweep the chimney stack and have them install a new heat shield on top of the old on while also sealing the cracks in the existing shield. Pretty good right, well it didn’t stop there! They also noticed some issues with my furnace stack and again explained what they can do for me to get it sealed properly and wrapped so no birds nest in there and create a fire hazard.
I can’t say enough about these guys, although it seems like I did already, but Jeff and his crew at Fireplace & Chimney Tech are passionate about what they do and more importantly they deeply care about home safety when it comes to heat venting in your home, and making sure the job is done right and thorough the first time.
I would highly recommend these guys to anyone for anything chimney/​dryer/​furnace venting related not only based on the great work they do, but also for the care and passion they have for fire and home safety making sure you and your family can have piece of mind knowing that your home is operating safely when it comes to preventing home fires due to proper venting of heat from your appliances and fireplace.

This service was fantastic! I called early in the morning to leave a message, and the owner answered immediately, eager to assist. This is a father and son team, and Jeffrey (the son) is VERY passionate about safety, and about his job. He is very knowledgable, and very helpful.
The service was quick, professional, and very well priced. I had called around other places, and they were not able to come as fast and were not as well priced or as good a value.
