Discount Moving and Labor

Recently moved using Discount Moving. The guys were quick, friendly, and efficient. Jim and his crew were awesome! These three movers made my move flow so easily and had a great attitude. They were organized and very professional. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them next time I move.

We had a move from San Diego to Los Gatos planned and the moving company that we booked didn’t show up. We had rented a 26′ uhaul and had time booked off work to move, we had to get to Los Gatos to pick up the keys for our new house. The first moving company suggested Mike and his team might be able to help at short notice.
I was concerned because I hadn’t seen any reviews for Discount moving labor but we really needed the help.
Mike and Adam showed up at 1pm, by this point I had realized just how much I had underestimated the amount of new stuff we had since we moved into our house in San Diego. I was really concerned it wouldn’t go in the truck and I had no idea how we were going to get it all packed.
Mike and Adam calmly assessed the situation and started packing and loading the truck. They worked really hard and did an amazing job of packing everything. Mike also talked me though the route we were taking and explained that everything would really need to be tied down to get through the «grapevine» (I5). They worked much longer than I had planned, staying until 10pm to get it done.
When I came to unpack I realized the amazing job they had done packing the truck. If I had done it then it would not have fitted. Nothing got damaged or broken.
I also appreciated how good they were with our kids, the kids were underfoot and trying to help and wanted to talk when we all stopped for dinner. Mike and Adam were great with them.
We have moved several times in the last few years and this was the easiest move we have had.
If you are moving these guys will really make it easier.

Scheduled a 10am move. Got a call at 10am saying they were delayed and would be at their first job another 30 – 45 minutes. I verified that I would see them around 11.
I called 3 times over the next hour and a half (11 – 12:30), but never saw or heard from them. My husband called them from work. I KNOW they have my number because they called to say they were running late. If they were lost or further delayed, why not call? Now I need to find another mover last minute, or I’ll be moving everything myself at 4.5 months pregnant.
ETA: I kept calling and finally got Mike, who said his phone had died and otherwise he would have told me that they were still at their first job. He promised to call me when they finish there. I may add another star or two if they come through…
Final edit: I didn’t hear from anyone for the rest of the day. I started calling every five minutes after I woke up. I got Mike around 7am. He told me they were STILL at the job they had started 24 hours before, but should be at my place by 10am (only a day late). Again, though I called/​emailed/​prayed, I didn’t hear from him again until after 4pm, when he sent an email saying. «Hold tight.» I texted him for an ETA and the reply was that he was getting gas right then on his way over. He should have arrived by 5pm.
Finally, just after 6, the truck and movers arrived. Unfortunately, I had just hired some random guy with a trailer off Craigslist (right before I got the email/​text communication from Mike). The Craigslister arrived from Escondido at 5pm and spent over an hour loading his trailer, then had to spend another hour unloading before he could make the long drive home. I paid him the amount we’d agreed on even though Mike and his team did half the work.
The good news? The movers were efficient, polite, and best of all — they didn’t charge me!
The bad news: Between tipping them and paying random-​Craigslist-​guy, I paid more than I was quoted for the move. If they had shown up a couple hours sooner (30 hours late instead of 32), I would have been moved for free, which would have been a major consolation.
More bad news: with the two overlapping moving teams (and me unable to supervise both) the new place was a completely unlivable mess when everyone left. The front door was blocked, along with most of the furniture (including dressers with drawers stacked on top rather than put back in), and most of the boxes were in the wrong rooms.

Mike and Ace helped us move our apartment and we couldn’t have been happier. They arrived promptly, ready to work, and worked quickly and efficiently. A bad experience with another moving company last year drastically lowered my expectations for movers, but Discount Moving and Labor changed that. The guys were very friendly and helpful and even helped pack up some items that I had planned to move after they left. Their work is fantastic and the price is great. I plan to use them again for our next move.

I recently moved from Seattle and they unloaded the truck and moved everything into my apartment. They were very professional, organized and had reasonable rates. They are hard workers and really seemed to care about my belongings. I would definately use them again.

I used these guys twice during my move — once to move my furniture to the storage unit and a second time to unpack and repack the storage unit. (Don’t let your husband be in charge of packing ever.) Both times were wonderful. The guys were so polite and worked hard to get everything done quickly. The move went quickly and easily with their help. Each time I used them I felt a weight lift at the end of the day.
When I booked the appointments, the owner gave me advice on the size of truck I needed, saving me money at U-​Haul.
I will definitely use Discount Moving Labor again!
